Free Covid vaccine for those above 18 in Delhi: Kejriwal NEW DELHI: The Delhi government will provide free COVID-19 vaccines to all those above 18 years of age in the city and purchase of 1.34 crore doses has been approved, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Monday. Ke- jriwal said COVID 19 vaccines should have one price and appealed to the Centre to bring down the price. BUREAU CHANDIGARH, APRIL 26: Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal has said that no corona infected pa- tient will be allowed to suffer due to lack of oxygen. The Chief Minister was interacting with media persons after tak- ing stock of essential health services for COVID-19 patients at PGIMS, Rohtak. The Chief Minister said that the quota for oxygen has been increased to 200 MT which was earlier fixed at 162 MT. The Central Government has been requested for 240 MT of oxygen. Sh. Manohar Lal informed that in- dustrialist, Sh. Naveen Jindal has said that he will send 5 MT of liquid oxygen and people will not be allowed to suffer from lack of oxygen. He said that in view of the COVID- 19 pandemic, an additional 650 beds are being arranged at PGIMS, Rohtak, whereas earlier PGIMS, 350 beds are already available for COVID-19 pa- tients. He said that 1250 beds are being arranged in different medical colleges of the state and space has been identi- fied for setting up 500 beds. The struc- ture will be erected there in the coming three-four days and soon all these beds will be available for the COVID-19 in- fected patients. He said that private hos- pitals are being monitored at the state level so that private hospitals do not ad- mit more patients than their capacity and the oxygen supply for COVID-19 patients remains constant. He said that those COVID-10 patients who do not require oxygen should remain in isola- tion in their homes. A health kit is being provided by the Health Department so that all of them can take care of them- selves properly at home, he added. The Chief Minister said that in this hour of crisis, the entire administration and the people of the state should work togeth- er to defeat this pandemic. 1000 beds for Corona patients in PGI Rohtak: Manohar Lal Situation expected to get worse, says Amarinder SHASHI PAL JAIN CHANDIGARH, APRIL 26 Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh here on Monday said he is against the imposition of a coronavirus lockdown even as he pre- dicted that the pandemic situation is expected to get worse in the state. The chief min- ister made the comment at a meeting, a day af- ter the daily infec- tion count in the state crossed the 7,000-mark, the highest single-day rise since the out- break of the pandemic last year. The CM said the situation is expected to worsen, especially in south Punjab, where Ludhiana district alone reported 1,300-plus cases on Sunday. According to a statement, the CM said while stringent measures are be- ing taken to tackle the surge in cases, he is not “proposing” a lockdown in the state as it leads to economic woes and the exodus of migrant workers. The chief minister said at another meeting that the state government is making all efforts to secure medical oxygen to sup- plement its depleting stocks. 5 Covid patients die in Hisar hospital; families allege oxygen shortage HISAR: A desperate plea from a Hisar hospital in the small hours of Monday morn- ing sent district officials scur- rying a nearby oxygen plant. “Patients on ventilator will die because of delay in oxygen supply,” the text on Whatsapp said. “Only 30 minutes of oxygen left.” The SOS made district administration swing into action---two officials were at a plant within 10 minutes. Even all their hurry could not guarantee timely supply---40 minutes after the said text, while a hospital vehicle waited in vain for critical oxygen, four patients breathed their last. A fifth died 30 minutes later. The cause for such delay? A snag, forcing the plant to close down for two hours and wasting precious time. According to sources, the oxygen manufacturing plant developed snag and re- mained close for nearly two hours, leading to the delay in supply to the hospital. EC too responsible for second Covid wave: Madras High Court Judges warned that they would not hesitate in stopping counting of votes on May 2 AGENCY CHENNAI, APRIL 26 The Madras High Court on Monday came down hard on the Election Commission and called it the "the most irresponsible institu- tion" for the alleged spread of the second wave of Covid-19 in the country. In stinging remarks, the court said EC of- ficials may be booked under murder charges too. The first bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ra- mamoorthy made the observation on a public interest writ, seeking for a direction to au- thorities to ensure fair counting of votes on May 2 in Karur by taking effective steps and proper arrangements with Covid-19 proto- cols. Since as many as 77 candidates are con- testing in the Karur constituency, it would be very difficult to accommodate their agents in the counting hall. It may affect observance of the protocols, the petitioner alleged. When the counsel for the EC told the judges that all necessary steps were underway, the bench retorted that by allowing the politi- cal parties to take out rallies and meetings, it had paved the way for the resurgence of the second wave of Covid-19. India logs record 3.53 lakh new cases, 2,812 more deaths NEW DELHI: With 3,52,991 people testing positive for coronavirus infection in a day, the highest so far, India's total tally of Covid cases has climbed to 1,73,13,163 while active cases have crossed the 28-lakh mark, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday. The death toll increased to 1,95,123 with a record 2,812 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed. Registering a steady increase, the active cases have increased to 28,13,658, comprising 16.25 per cent of the total infections. We have enough oxygen stock, trying to resolve transportation issue: HM AGENCY NEW DELHI, APRIL 26 India has enough stock of medical oxygen, but the issue is its trans- portation from the producing states to high-demand areas which the gov- ernment is trying to address, the Home Ministry said Monday. Additional Secretary in the Min- istry of Home Affairs Piyush Goyal also said the turnaround time of oxy- gen-carrying tankers was reduced to 1-2 hours from 4-5 days by taking the help of the Indian Air Force transport aircraft which have been ferrying empty tankers. “We have enough stock of oxy- gen. The issue is transportation which we are trying to resolve by ac- tive involvement of all stake hold- ers,” Goyal told a press conference here. Amidst increasing demand for oxygen in the country due to the surging coronavirus cases, he said, “There is absolutely no need to pan- ic for oxygen as we are trying to re- solve the issue of oxygen transporta- tion from the producing states to high demand areas.” He also said the Central govern- ment is monitoring the movement of oxygen-carrying tankers on real- time basis through GPS and making them available to hospitals at the shortest possible time. Since Friday, the home ministry has been coordinating efforts to de- ploy empty oxygen tankers and con- tainers in various filling stations across the country to speed up the distribution of the much-needed medical oxygen in treating COVID- 19 patients. Pb tightens restrictions, announces daily lockdown from 6 pm-5 am CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Government announced stricter restrictions on move- ment on Monday, a development that comes as the state’s COVID cases have stretched its healthcare system to capacity. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said in a tweet that his government was enforcing lockdown from 6 pm to 5 am on weekdays and a weekend lockdown that would begin at 6 pm on Friday until 5 am on Monday. His tweet, which comes after a cabinet meeting, said: “Due to continuous & rapid rise of #Covid19 cases in Punjab, Cabinet today has decided to impose daily lock- down from 6 PM to 5 AM and weekend lockdown from Friday 6 PM to Monday 5 AM. Urge you all to stay at home & step out only if absolutely necessary. Seek your full cooperation”.

Immunity Boosting Milletsillets need to be promoted more proactively by the government, to boost its demand and consumption Mto turn it into a profitable crop for the farmers. A

positive fallout of the Covid-19 could be described as a change in our eating habits and foods, which we consume. As everyone is trying to boost their immunity and stay active during in-home stretches, every one is looking forward to get a balanced and nutritious diet, which could help them fight off the Covid-19 virus. One such cereal, which has assumed greater attention in these anxieties filled days, is millet. Millets have been around for centuries as a food group but somewhere down the line, particularly in India, we seem to have replaced them with polished rice and maida-mixed wheat. Consuming millets was considered to be meant for the poor.Ancient grains like jowar, ragi, foxtail, bajra and other minor millets are promising cereals which are nutritionally superior to major cereals and serve as a good source of protein, high dietary fibre, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and micronutrients. Millets seem to be in demand again as it is known to be an immunity booster.Do you know what was the staple grain of India a few decades back? You would be surprised to know it was the humble millets; also currently one-third of the world's population consumes millets regularly. But the small, humble grains are finally getting their due as super food and powerhouse of immunity. Millets are now on the verge of becoming superstars of nutrition. Millets are a rich source of a wide variety of micronutrients such as calcium, thiamine and magnesium. It is the presence of these micronutrients that support the immune system. Millets are a good source of protein, high dietary fibre, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and micronutrients. What are millets and their advantages? As per agricultural scientists, Millets are a group of small-grained cereal food crops, which are highly tolerant to drought and other extreme weather conditions and are grown with low chemical inputs such as fertilisers and pesticides. Most of the millet crops are native to India and are popularly known as nutri-cereals as they provide most of the nutrients required for normal functioning of human body. Millets are classified into Major Millets and Minor Millets based on their grain size.Millets are gluten free and non-allergenic. Millet consumption decreases triglycerides and C-reactive protein, thereby preventing cardiovascular diseases. All millets are rich in dietary fibre. Dietary fibre has water absorbing and bulking property. It increases transit time of food in the gut, which helps in reducing risk of inflammatory bowel disease, and acts as detoxifying agent in the body.

Ride Sharing Services Add to Road Congestion, New Study Finds

o ride-sharing companies like Uber and others lead to traffic jams? A new study Dcarried out in America, looking at the

industry leaders Uber and Lyft, says that these transport network companies (TNCs) have intensified urban transport challenges since their debut in the US. Those involved in the study said that they examined three aspects of the impacts of TNCs on urban mobility in the US — road congestion, transit ridership, and private vehicle ownership to reach the conclusion. Although the conclusion might be different in other parts of the world, it is very important that this question be studied more. The research has been published in Nature Sustainability in a paper titled, ‘Impacts of transportation network companies on urban mobility'. The researchers were from Singapore–MIT Alliance for Research and Technology Centre, Department of Urban Studies and Planning, MIT, and College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University in China. This study takes into account the two most popular ridesharing companies in the US — Uber and Lyft. The study covered mobility trends, socio-demographic change, and TNC entry at the metropolitan statistical areas level and found that these companies increased road congestion in terms of both intensity (by 0.9 percent) and duration (by 4.5 percent), and also led to an 8.9 percent decline in public transit ridership.

Delhi Capitals beat SRH in aSuper-Over thriller in Match 20of the IPL. Prithvi Shaw andKane Williamson top-scored fortheir respective teams but the en-counter turned out to be a nail-biter as Delhi Capitals sealed thegame in the Super Over.

Axar had put his hand up tohelp his team seal the deal in theSuper Over.

"After the scores were lev-elled, I told Rishabh (Pant) that Icould bowl well on this wicket, and he could consider me for theSuper Over as well," Axar, whoconceded just 7 runs in the SuperOver, said in a Delhi Capitals re-lease.

"I knew that it was not goingto be easy for the batsmen toscore runs on this pitch. ThenRishabh spoke to Ricky (Ponting)and they decided to give the ballto me," he added.

Axar, who played his firstmatch after recovering fromCOVID-19, said he was emotion-al to be playing alongside histeammates again, "I was nervousbefore the game, but once I didsome warm-up sessions with theteam, I was fine. I was emotionalto be amongst my close friendsand teammates again since I was

back in action after being in quar-antine for 20 days, but everyonebacked me to do well, and theytrusted me even more than I trust-ed myself."

When asked if he changedhis preparation plan for thematch against SRH because ofthe 20-day quarantine period,Axar said, "I didn't change mypreparation plan for this match inanyway. I followed the routinethat I usually follow. I didn'tthink much about the fact that Iam coming out of 20 days ofquarantine."

"I just wanted to carry for-

ward the rhythm I had in the Testseries against England and Iwanted to stay in a positiveframe of mind. Yes, I did practicemore than usual because I cameback after a break from cricket, but I followed my usual routinesduring practice," he added.

The all-rounder expressedthat Delhi Capitals, who defeat-ed Mumbai Indians in their lastmatch, couldn't have asked for abetter outing in Chennai.

"We won two out of twomatches in Chennai, so wecouldn't have put in a better per-formance at this venue. And

when a close match falls in theteam's favour, then the team'sconfidence gets a major boost. We haven't discussed about ourplans for the Ahmedabad leg yet.We are taking one match at atime and staying in the present asmuch as possible," said Axar.

"In terms of testing, they are prettyonto it. I'm as confident (in the bubble)as you can be. All the protocols andmeasures are in place, I can't think ofanything more we could be doing," hestressed.

"As long as everyone follows them-- that's the hardest bit, there's a lot ofmoving parts -- but if everyone does theright thing, we should be fine," Coulter-Nile added. The Mumbai Indians all-
