2014-2015 Yearbook

Yearbook Pictures

The Sayre yearbook likes to include events from school that will be great memories of the students’ experiences at school. The year-book is looking for any classroom pictures that you would like to share.

Do you have a great picture of a group of kids at a classroom party or school event (Boo Bash, concert photos, Walkathon)? When you were on a field trip, did you take a class picture or picture of a group of students enjoying their learning experience? If you would like to share these with the yearbook, please email them to Tiffany Rob-erts at [email protected]. You can also place pictures in the grey cart located outside of the CHEERS Room. Yearbook orders will be in March and April, and the yearbooks will be distributed at the end of May.

March is Reading Month!

Sayre Elementary is excited to announce that we will be bringing Doug Scheer from Scheer Genius Assemblies to perform "The Mystery of the

Character Surprise," a fun and exciting assembly on March 13th for “March is

Reading Month.”

Our theme is “Reading Builds My Character” with a focus on character traits.

Your student will receive a reading map with suggestions of the different character traits. They may find books or stories that exemplify each particu-

lar trait and document it in the correct category.

Mrs. Housman, our media specialist, and the teachers, will have some great book suggestions that focus on character traits. Parents will assist by track-ing minutes read each week. The goal is 20 minutes of reading daily outside

of the school day.

Students will receive a prize when they turn in the completed reading maps (620 minutes). There will be three BONUS prize character trait questions on the back. Have fun building character together, during the month of March is

Reading Month!

Thank you for your support with literacy!

PTO Openings for 2015-2016 School Year

The PTO is beginning to think about next year already! Around this time every year volunteers are asked if they want to continue on in their current roles. We then like to get started filling in the open positions so that new volunteers can learn the position before next year. We have a few openings for next year. If you are interested in taking on a position or in learning more about a position please let me know. Also remember each position will have a list of volunteers willing to help out. We are very lucky at Sayre to have such involved families!! PTO positions are filled on a first come first serve basis, although if two people chose to work together on a position that is absolutely fine. Open Positions for 2015-2016

• PTO President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer are 1 year terms; the current PTO President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasur-er are willing to come back next year but if anyone else is interested in these positions please contact me and we can get the election process started. Please contact me by Friday, March 13 if you are interested so that we can create an elections committee at the March PTO Meeting.

• CHEERS Coordinators (2 people): The CHEERS coordinators distribute and collect the gold and green volunteer sheets at the beginning of the year. They then create a spreadsheet so that Committee Heads and Teachers know who signed up to volunteer. They keep track of the volun-teer hours each month and attend a monthly CHEERS meeting with other CHEERS coordinators from other schools. They also organize the CHEERS orientation breakfast each fall. They are also members of Sayre’s SIP committee and are asked to attend monthly SIP meetings.

• Ice Cream Social (can be 2 people): The Ice Cream Social chair organiz-es and purchases the ice cream and toppings for ice cream social. The chair with the help of volunteers serves the ice cream at the event.

• Hospitality Chair (can be 2 people): The hospitality chair will plan a par-ent event during the school year. This will be a new position to help us create a Mom and Dad event during the day so that we can accommodate all of our families with parking and time with their students. Dates of the events are to be determined.

• Teacher Appreciation Chair (can be 2 people): The Teacher Apprecia-tion Chair will plan teacher lunches during Parent Teacher conferences as well as Teacher Appreciation week in May. They will also provide small monthly treats for teachers.

• Boo Bash Basket Raffle Chair (can be 2 people): The Boo Bash Basket Raffle Chair will work to get donations and silent auction items for our Boo

Bash Basket Raffles. They will collect donations and put baskets together for Boo Bash and run the basket raffle during Boo Bash.

• School Store Chair (can be 2 people): The School Store chair purchases items to sell at school store. They will also organize volunteers each month to help with school store during lunch for students.

• News Crew (typically 2-5 people): News Crew Coordinators come in each morning before school and organize the 5

th graders to run Sayre’s

Daily news. • Box Tops/Campbell’s Labels Coordinator (can be 2 people): The chair

will collect and mail box tops and Campbell’s labels in throughout the year. This is a position that can be done at home.

• Busch’s Scrip Card Coordinator: The chair will distribute cards in the fall to all new students and to any families who request them throughout the school year. This is a position that can be done at home.

• Sayre Reads Chair (can be 2 people): The chair will collect books throughout the year to distribute to teacher selected students at the end of the school year.

• 4th

Grade Fundraising Chair for 5th

Grade Camp Fundraising (2 peo-ple): The 4

th Grade fundraising chair plans a fall and spring fundraiser for

4th Grade families as well as plans the annual Bowl a Thon in the winter.

• 5th

Grade Slideshow: The slideshow coordinators collect pictures and cre-ate the slideshow that is shown for the 5

th graders on the last day of

school. • 5

th Grade Breakfast chair: The chair will coordinate and get food for the

5th Grade breakfast on the last day of school.

• 4th

Grade Camp Coordinator: The 4th Grade camp coordinator keeps

track of the camp accounts for 4th graders as they begin saving for 5

th

grade camp. Please email me if you are interested in filling any of the positions or if you have any questions. Thank you Dana DeGrazia PTO President [email protected]
