BETHAL - Mnr.

Me.

Deysel gesê hy is verwurg.

Me.

Me.

As jy haar wil ondersteun of wil

bydra tot die begrafnisondernemer, skakel me. Deysel by 076 901 4430 of die begrafnisondernemer, past. Pieter Oberholzer, by 082 783 9530.

interest. "We thought we were investing in a new Old Mutual product," claimed the investors. Several of the investors are councillors of Govan Mbeki Municipality. According to a pensioner, Mr Siyabonga Sifolo, he invested all the money he saved for his child's tertiary education and has not received any return on this investment.

Adv Manana was called to the witness stand by his legal representative, Mr Thanduxolo Mteyisi, to tell the court why he ought to be released on bail.

He denied running a pyramid scheme and explained that Inhlanhla is a trading company that buys and sells stock, such as oil and gold. He claimed he would pay back everyone before his next court appearance, but he could only do so if he was not locked up.

"I am the only one who can release the money," he said. Adv Manana said he would report to the police station nearest to his home in Newcastle daily. He is still representing clients in criminal cases and no one has yet informed his clients that he has not been available since 8 February. "I thought I was helping the community by giving them a chance to invest. I intend to

plead not guilty," he said. Magistrate Faith Kekana granted Adv Manana bail of R25 000 and extended Past Manana's bail of R10 000. The case was postponed to 6 April. Ms Anthea Hartzenberg, media communication manager at Old Mutual, said the company is aware of the case, and has also launced an urgent internal investigation.

"Old Mutual has not received any complaints from customers regarding this adviser (Mr Shadrack Manana)." She said all the nancial advisers at Old Mutual are required to subscribe to a professional code of ethics and are authorised to act on behalf of Old Mutual to provide advice regarding nancial products they are accredited for.

"Our advisers are not authorised to engage customers in their personal capacity to offer products not approved by Old Mutual, or for which they are not accredited, or to take any loans or request payments into unauthorised accounts." Ms Hartzenberg advised clients to verify any nancial adviser's accreditation and to make sure all documents are in line with the company.

"If you are uncertain, contact the adviser's manager and con rm that they are accredited," said Ms Hartzenburg.

SHOWTIMESFRI 9 MAR -THU 15 MAR

An electric leaf blower provides a world of

benefi ts to users as compared to a gas leaf blower. The tool is of

particular use in cleaning your lawn or backyard, especially in the

month of September or October when most of the ground around

your house is covered by dry leaves, which need to be removed

completely and effi ciently. But even if you are just considering an

electric powered leaf blower to do the job, there are still two options

that are available. One option is to go for a leaf blower that works

purely on electricity while the other option is for leaf blowers that

use batteries. But no matter what your choice is, using the electronic

tool will help you clean up your yard in a more eff ective manner.

1. An Electric Leaf Blower Is Lightweight

Because the power used by the tool comes from electricity, there

is no need to install a heavy motor on the device. Hence, it is a lot

lighter than other types of leaf blowers. In addition, the electric

tool also operates quietly thereby allowing you to clean lawns in

constricted areas without disturbing your neighbors.

2. An Electric Leaf Blower Can Be Carried on the Back

Backpack models of the electric leaf blower are available on the

market which are still powerful enough to do a tough job. Thus,

there is no need to have the complete blower load with you.

Carrying the power pack with you also allows you to work over

a greater distance which helps in the effi ciency of the cleaning

operation. If you are living in a home that has a small yard or there is

a need to remove dry leaves from decks and patios, your best choice

would be a backpack electric leaf blower.

3. Easy Maintenance

Another of the benefi ts you can get from an electric leaf blower is its

low maintenance. Unlike a gas-operated leaf blower, all you need

to do in order to keep the equipment clean is to remove the residues

from the tube from time to time. You should also clean its brushes

every now and then. To keep you leaf blower working effi ciently,

always use a cord that has the correct voltage.

4. Various Features Are Available

An electric-powered leaf blower also comes with additional features

which makes it a more attractive alternative. These include greater

power, better mulch ratio and reduced noise level. To get more from

your leaf blower, you should also check on the price in which it is

being sold. Most of the models that are sold on the market are

priced aff ordably, thereby giving you more value for your money.

5. Ease of Use

Electric leaf blowers are so easy to use because there is no gas and

oil to mix before it can be used and no ropes need to be pulled.

You also do not have to cope with an engine that has a loud

exhaust, thereby doing away with the need to wear noise

suppressors. However, you still need to wear protective gear for your

face to avoid debris from entering your eyes, mouth and nostrils.

BETHAL - Lindeka Zulu (17) is a fashion designer who is currently studying at Mzinoni High School.

Her interest in sewing began at the age of six when she sewed clothes for her dolls.

At the age of 13, she discovered her talents lie in fashion designing.

Her grandmother encouraged Lindeka to pursue her passion.

“I designed a hand-sewn dress from scratch and it caught people’s attention.”

Lindeka received her rst sewing machine, a gift from a friend, when she was 14 years old.

People have taken notice of the young talent and she is selling her designs.

Her fashion designs accommodate people of all shapes and sizes.

“I design clothes, jewellery and accessories and I aspire to design shoes as well. I want to begin a business and later groom other young talented people and be the mentor that I never had.”

Lindeka took part in the Miss Mpumalanga Teen 2016 competition and was in the top 14.

“I learnt a lot about myself during the modelling competition and being around my peers from different

backgrounds was refreshing.” She also has other interests, such

as modelling, poetry and doing illustrations.

“I strive to express myself through my crafts, as I believe every artist does.”

As an extra source of income, Lindeka does nails and hair.

She uses the money to purchase material and design her own out ts.

“I like to challenge myself with the different fabrics. I am in my

element when I begin working.”She is inspired by people from

different walks of life and fashion designers from across the continent.

“My personality shines through my work and that is something I can be proud of.

“I am a risk taker, I am not afraid to be myself and I am comfortable in my own

skin.”Lindeka was a model

Fashion Show in Bethal.“I have dealt with bad

critics and I can only grow from here on.

“Support is very important because talent can

only carry you so far.”She plans to study fashion

designing to sharpen her skills and to later major in arts.

Lindeka appreciates fashion trends, yet she prefers to create her own. She is looking forward to registering her own business before the end of the year.

“I would like to enter designing competitions to be recognised by the big names in the fashion industry. I want to become an international designer one day.”

Lindeka Zulu is reaching for the stars as a fashion designer. Here she wears her own designed dress.

Ms Joanita Visser represented South Africa at the Magnifi cent Women International Southern Africa Beauty Pageant held in Mumbai, India, from 19 to 25 February. She came second.

Joanita fi nishes secondSECUNDA - Ms Joanita Visser is a runner-up in the Magni cent Women International (MWI) Southern Africa beauty pageant that was held in Mumbai, India, last month.

Part of the competition included the number of online votes contestants accumulated over the period of the competition. A contestant from India won the beauty division.

According to the votes, Ms Visser had the second highest votes. She thanked her supporters for keeping her in the run.

This 20-year-old education student from Secunda said no matter the outcome, she believes all the contestants to be magni cent women worthy of winning. She wowed the judges with the unique out t that she wore to represent South Africa.

“I am thankful for the chance to take part in the competition. It was an unforgettable experience and I have learned a lot. There were tough times and good times, and even during the times when I felt like giving up, I managed to still push through because of the amazing role models we had.”

Ms Visser believes God has sent her to the pageant for a purpose.

“I think it was to teach me the character that it takes to be a magni cent woman. What mattered the most were the moments that will be treasured forever.

“When we enter a pageant, we sign up to sometimes get our backsides kicked. We can choose courage or we can choose comfort, but we cannot have both - not at the same time.”

Ms Visser quoted Brené Brown, saying: “Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome. Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our greatest

measure of courage.”The Mumbai contest is not

the end of Ms Visser’s MWI pageant participation. She has already been chosen as Miss MWI Mpumalanga SA to compete in Las Vegas next year.

EVANDER - The Economic Freedom Fighters described Evander Hospital as a slaughterhouse during their picketing at the hospital on Wednesday, 28 February.

The party accused the hospital of negligence and often prescribing wrong prescriptions to patients.

This was part of their national programme. The party announced at the beginning of the year that they would dedicate 2018 to challenge the lack of adequate health services in the country.

Mr Thabiso Mofokeng, EFF councillor, said his party has also noticed that staff shortages are the biggest problem at the hospital.

He said they have spoken to staff members who informed them that this results in them having to work under immense pressure.

“There is not enough staff members and they do not have enough equipment.

“We ask the Department of Health to employ more doctors and nurses.

“This can improve service delivery. The patients are complaining about beds, that some of them have to sleep on the oor or share a bed because of other critical patients.

“Our community members from different clinics are turned away, because some nurses demand they bring referral letters from clinics. This leads to people literally spending a whole day in a queue, only to be informed about a referral letter.

“We are calling on Mr Jantjie Aphane, the CEO of the hospital, to improve service delivery at the reception area and to improve cleanliness and hygiene in the wards.”

The party further demanded that Mr Aphane improve the treatment of patients and that HIV patients must be treated with respect and dignity.

Before handing over the memorandum, Mr Mofokeng lambasted the municipal legal team that wanted the picketing to be cancelled and allegedly said it was illegal.

It is alleged they instructed the police to arrest the picketers.

“Mpumalanga is a rural province, but the ANC’s decline at the polls signals hope that it is indeed possible to secure an increased share of the vote come 2019.

“We will change the political landscape through hard work and determination.

“We will intensify our efforts on the ground, we will reach each and every corner

of our province, street by street, house to house, door to door, as we continue to engage more and more residents of our beautiful province.”

Ms Sithole said she was humbled by the opportunity to serve as leader of the of cial opposition in Mpumalanga and believes that the entire leadership team elected will do the same.

She said come 2019, DA Mpumalanga is ready to roll up their sleeves and bring about a total change in the province.

Mr Mmusi Maimane, party leader, encouraged the democrats to unite and take the party to new heights.

He said the party will ght to ensure that white farmers’ rights are protected.

Towards the end of the congress, the party paid

tribute to the outgoing provincial leader, Mr James Masango.

Delivering his speech, Mr Masango re ected back on when he joined the DA and was nominated as the provincial leader.

“Thank you everybody who supported me during my time, let us all rally behind the newly elected leadership. Our country is in a crisis. We are relieved that Mr David Mabuza has departed as the premier. He held our beautiful province ransom. We are however concerned about his position as the deputy president of the country.

“What does his appointment mean to South Africans? Our people will continue to live under bad conditions.”

Mr Mofokeng said the legal team is incompetent and only serves the interests of the ANC.

He thanked the police for co-operating and said his party is peaceful and will continue to constructively engage with the hospital.

Mr Aphane was accompanied by some of the hospital’s managers and thanked the picketers for peacefully picketing.

He will respond to the issues that are in his line of duty and will refer the other matters to his seniors.

Mr Thabiso Mofokeng reads from the memorandum during the EFF’s picketing at the Evander Hospital.

Sewerage remains in a poor conditionLEANDRA - Sewage spills continue to be a problem in Leandra.

According to residents, sewage has been over owing for the past 15 years.

“The smell is unbearable and we even struggle to eat,” said Mr Banele Nkabinde, DA PR councillor.

The biggest problem is a manhole in Ext 9 behind the factory.

The spillage includes milk and yoghurt from a local dairy factory and blood from a butchery.

These ow from Ext 9’s Ward 2 under the bridge that is located near houses.

“We can no longer open our windows and doors because their is no fresh air, just the

smell of sewage,” said Mr Nkabinde.Residents said Govan Mbeki Municipality

sent workers to investigate, but they failed to x the problem.

“The community is willing to meet the municipality half way. If they provide the material, we can restrict the ow of sewage under the bridge,” said Mr Sibusiso Malaza.

“Near the bridge are two more blocked manholes.

“We are volunteering to make our environment safe, clean and healthy.

“The least the municipality can do is to make an effort,” said Mr Malaza.

The municipality was not available for comment.

Crossing the stream is becoming unsafe as the water levels continue to rise due to sewage that overfl ows.

Going Green group recycles rubbishSECUNDA - Ms Kheya Samuels, founder of the Going Green Secunda initiative, had a waste collection day at the Duck Pond on Saturday, 4 March.

Residents had the opportunity to take their recyclable waste to her instead of throwing it away.

Ms Samuels said Going Green will be at the Duck Pond every second Saturday to offer this recyclable service.

They will be at the Duck Pond again from 9am to 2pm on Saturday, 17 March.

Residents can take their plastic bags (clear or coloured), cling wrap, milk bottles, plastic cold drink bottles and caps, boxes, magazines, white paper, newspapers, glass bottles, jars, cans and tins.

For more information, visit the Going Green Secunda Facebook page or contact Ms Samuels at 082 744 2884.

Tanya donates long hair during Cansa ShavathonSECUNDA - People wonder what they can do with a 38cm ponytail.

The answer is to make a wig for a cancer patient.

That is what the Cansa Cosmos branch is going to do with Ms Tanya Toerien’s donation.

Ms Toerien decided three years ago to grow her hair long enough to donate it to Cansa to have it turned into a wig for a woman undergoing chemotherapy.

She sat down for the personnel of Cansa Cosmos who cut her ponytail during a Shavathon inside Sasol on Friday, 2 March.

“My sister, Angelique, have done the same several times and I thought it was a great idea. My hair is now shorter than shoulder length, but it can grow back. I am honoured to help cancer patients in this manner,” said Ms Toerien.

Ms Giséle Bosman from Cansa said it was a brave gesture and an inspiration to all.

“We salute Tanya for her willpower and discipline to help others.”

According to Ms Bosman, the Shavathon held at Sasol’s re station was fun lled and well supported.

Seniors’ club celebrates 40 years

Ms Kotie Thomas and Ms Joy van der Walt have been members of the Secunda Senior Citizens’ Club for more than 25 years.

SECUNDA - Members of the Secunda Senior Citizens’ Club celebrated the club’s 40th year of existence on Wednesday, 28 February.

The club was formed in 1978 and has walked a road with the St Peters United Church since 1979.

Some of the current members of the club have been part of the club for more than 25 years.

The members enjoyed lunch and spoke about the early years of the club.

Their next meeting is on Wednesday, 14 March when they will have a hobo day and dress up as hobo’s.

It begins at 10am at Davies Court and all senior citizens are welcome.
