At that time Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be

tempted by the devil. He fasted for forty days and forty

nights, and afterward he was hungry. The tempter

approached and said to him, “If you are the Son of God,

command that these stones become loaves of bread.”

Fasting and Abstinence

during Lent/Holy Week

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are

obligatory days of fasting and

abstinence for Catholics. Additionally,

Fridays during Lent are obligatory days

of Abstinence.

For members of the Roman Catholic

Church, the norms for fasting are

obligatory from age 18 until age 59.

When fasting, a person is permitted to

eat one full meal, as well as two smaller

meals that together are not equal to a

full meal. Abstinence requires all

Catholics, who have reached the age of

14, to abstain from meat on Ash

Wednesday, Good Friday, and all

Fridays during Lent.

Saints Peter and Paul Parish Presents:

Our Parish Lenten Mission/March 8, 9 & 10:SSPP School Cafe

National Speaker and Author Rose Sweet

~ Missions should call the people to return to Christ with all their hearts. Too often we forget the

extravagant love of God and are distracted by the care of family, work, and the world. Drawing from

Scripture, the Catechism, and her own journey, Rose Sweet will guide our parish on an “Adventure”

into the interior. With her signature heart and humor, she’ll take us where saints and mystics have

gonethe interior lifeto rediscover and remember the Love for which we were made. For a Lenten

Mission, these talks will also tie into the suffering Jesus endured for us and how our own suffering can

help us DETACH (Talk 1) LOVE (Talk 2) and BE IN UNION WITH GOD (Talk 3).

Night One ~ Happiness

Sunday, March 8, 6:158:15 pm

If the goal of the Christian life is to “live happily ever after,” how can we find our fairy tale ending in an upsidedown

world? This talk is suited to teens and up and invites the parish to get in touch with the deepest desires of their hearts. To

help us stay on track, Rose introduces the classic “Four Levels of Happiness” and practical steps to finding authentic

joyeven when the world around you may be falling apart. Includes an introduction to Inordinate Attachments and The-

ology of the Body.

Night Two ~ Relationships

Monday, March 9, 6:15 8:15 pm

Even Harvard proved it: what makes us most happy is a meaningful, safe, and loving relationship. Then why do they

sometimes cause us so much disappointment and misery? To follow Christ, we are called to “Put our RELIGION into

our RELATIONSHIPS,” often a most difficult thing to do! Butlooking to Christ and His interactions with others

Rose offers helpful ways of relating to and loving others rightly in “The Four Rules of Relationship.”

Night Three ~ Romance

Tuesday, March 10, 6:158:15 pm

Romance is the drawing of the heart into love, through beauty … and that is precisely what God intends for every soul.

No matter if you’re single, married, divorced, or religious, your heart was made for romancein the widest and most

eternal sense. This talk explores the powerful Scriptural imagery of the Bride and Bridegroom and what that means in

everyday life. Rose reveals the “Seven Stages of Romance” as a way to understand the spiritual life. Introduction to the

Spousal Analogy and the Mystical Marriage . . . with a surprise ending! rosesweet.com

COOKIES FOR OUR COMMUNITY

In celebraon of Catholic Schools Week, the Saints Peter & Paul High School

students made dozens of homemade cookies to show their appreciaon and

support for the dedicated men and women people who serve our community.

Members of the school’s DeSpiritus Team prepared gi' trays of delicious treats

for local organizaons and agencies that do much for our community. Students also

signed cards of thanks and appreciaon to some of the many people who make our

community a be(er place every day.

“We were surprised by how many cookies the students brought in. Definitely

more than we ancipated. It was clear that everyone wanted to reach out to their

community,” said DeSpiritus member and junior Darby Thomas.

Community recipients included Talbot Humane Society, Talbot County Sheriff’s

Department, Easton Police Department, Easton Fire Department, Maryland State

Police, University of Maryland Shore Medical Center, and the Department of Emergency Services of Easton.

DeSpiritus students prepare cookie trays for

community organizations.

SABRES SUPPORT LIFE

Twentysix students from Saints Peter & Paul

High School were joined by faculty and parents

as they traveled to Washington D.C. to

par"cipate in the recent March for Life.

The March for Life is held in January every

year in commemora"on of the U.S. Supreme

Court’s 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade in favor

of a Cons"tu"onal right to abor"on in all states. The tens of thousands of

marchers this year gathered for an address from President Donald J. Trump just

before the March to the U.S. Capital. Trump is the first si-ng president to

address the March.

SSPP Theology teacher and Respect Life Group advisor, Alex Pool, helped

organize the trip. “It was very inspiring to see our young men and women marching for the unborn and witnessing by

their presence the dignity and sanc"ty of every human life,” he said.

The night before the March, ten students a6ended the ProLife Conference. They heard various speakers including

medical experts, journalists and poli"cians who offered a fresh look at the prolife debate in our country. The students

also a6ended a Capital 101 poli"cal process seminar on how to get ac"vely involved in advocacy for prolife issues.

Junior Nancy McGe-gan reflected on the theme of this year’s March. “This year’s theme, Life Empowers Pro Life is

Pro Women, taught everyone that being prolife is suppor"ng not only the unborn baby but the mother and family as

well.”

“I was surprised to see the immense amount of people that showed up in support of this very important ma6er. This

experience gave me a be6er understanding of why I support this cause”, commented first "me par"cipant and Sabre

sophomore, AnnMarie Po6hast.

English faculty Meghan Fitzgerald traveled with SSPP students to the March and was impressed by the student

involvement. “It was great for our students to see, both at the rally and at the March, so many enthusias"c youth from all

around the country, and even from Australia!” she said. “I think today’s youth o?en get the message that they are too

young to influence the world. This shows that they can be a posi"ve influence.”
