Mohan congratulated Shri Vinod Dutt and his team for theexcellent arrangements made by them for the Mela, in whichmore than 1000 persons participated. The Chief Guest was ShriG.S. Bali, Minister in the HP Government. Even though no ex-act information was available, about 77-75 alliances were un-derstood to have been finalized, with another around 25 in thepipeline. Besides the matrimonial assistance, there were alsoother activities like health camp, blood donation camp, culturalprogramme etc. He congratulated and thanked Shri Vinod Dutt, for the excellent organization of the Mela.Others, who spoke after him, also echoed the same opinionabout the arrangements. Some of them, however, felt that club-bing other activities with the Matrimonial Mela might have di-luted the main event and could have been avoided.Shri Sanjeev Vaid of the Bhai Mati Dass Charitable Society, which had organized the Health Camp & the Blood DonationCamp, at the venue, stated that Shri Vinod Dutt’s initiative was

a very big leap forward. He said that huge data of about 580eligible boys & girls had been collected. The Khanna sabhahad handled around 1200 people very ably and everything wasdone in an excellent manner. He, however, felt that work at thegrass root level by the various local sabhas in regard to matri-monial help was lacking and there was need to address theconcerns of parents in areas where such help was lacking.Responding to the opinions expressed, Shri Vinod Dutt statedthat the idea was to have the Mohyal Mela also, along with theMatrimonial Mela and that, having other events had not resultedin any shortcoming, as far as matrimonial assistance providedat the Mela was concerned. The objective of bringing togetherthe parents/guardians of the boys and girls on one platformand facilitate their interaction had been achieved. Learning fromthe experience from the similar Mela organized by the localsabha in 2005, some changes had been brought out in the col-lection and dissemination of data. A number calls had also beenreceived, besides actual participation by parents/guardians atthe Mela. About 510 data had been generated, all of which hadbeen uploaded on the website. Nearby local sabhas also hadbeen involved in the organization of the Mela. It was decidedthat the website of MS Khanna will be linked with the GMSwebsite, so as to provide a wider reach for the data uploaded.Involvement of Youth: Shri Yogesh Mehta said that the localsabhas should take the initiative to involve the youth in its ac-tivities. For this, modern means of communication like the SMSshould be made use of for contacting the people, besides door-to-door contacts, where necessary. Shri Abhishek Datta, s/oShri P.K.Datta, while praising the GMS for growing by leaps &bounds, felt that the Mohyal youth also should be more con-cerned and get involved, and do more for the community.

HINDU RITUALS AND ROUTINESWhy do we follow them? SERIES–6Why do we offer food to the Lord before eating it?Indians make an offering of food to the Lord and, later, partakeof it as Prasaada – a holy gift from the Lord, in our daily ritualisticworship (Pooja) of the Lord. The Lord is omnipotent and omniscient. Man is a part, whilethe Lord is totality. All that we do is by His strength andknowledge alone. Hence, what we receive in life, as a result ofour actions, is, in reality, His alone. We acknowledge this, through the act of offering food to Him. This is exemplified bythe Hindi words “tera tujko arpan” (I offer what is Yours to You).Thereafter, it is akin to His gift to us, graced by His divine touch.Once we realize this, our entire attitude towards food and theact of its eating changes. The food offered will naturally be pureand the best. We share what we get with others, beforeconsuming it. We do not demand, complain or criticize the qualityof the food we get. We eat it with cheerful acceptance. Before we partake of our daily meals, we first sprinkle wateraround the plate, as an act of purification. Five morsels of foodare placed on the side of the plate, acknowledging the debtowed by us to the Divine forces (Devta Runa ), for their benigngrace and protection; our ancestors (Pitru Runa), for giving ustheir lineage and a family culture; the sages (Rishi Runa), asour religion and culture have been “realized”, maintained andhanded down to us by them; our fellow beings (ManushyaRuna), who constitute society, without the support of which wecould not live as we do; and other living beings (Bhuta Runa),for serving us selflessly.Thereafter, the Lord, the life force, which is also within us, asthe five life-giving physiological functions, is offered the food. This is done with the chants‘Praanaaya Swaahaa, Apaanaaya Swaahaa,Vyaanaaya Swaahaa, Udaanaaya Swaahaa,Samaanaaya Swaahaa, Brahmane Swaahaa’.After offering the food thus, it is eaten as Prasaada – blessedfood.

Noida Mohyal Sabha

Sir,I had attended the General Body Meeting of GMS on 26.05.2013along with my wife Mrs. Karuna Chhibber.Immediately on our alighting in front of the gate of MohyalFoundation, we were greeted by one gentleman, with the sloganJAI MOHYAL, and he offered us a glass of packed water, alongwith one printed sheet of paper. On reading it, I was dismayedbecause of its divisive and defamatory contents and tenor. Thatgentleman continued with said reprehensible activitiesthroughout the programme & was trying to spreadmisinformation among participating members.During the programme, after our esteemed President, Rzd. B.D. Bali, had spoken & the Annual Budget was presented by theVice President, for approval of the general body, chance wasgiven to speakers to present their views. I was astonished tosee that many members had stood up to speak with prejudiced& preconceived set of mind, just to criticise & find fault with themeritorious works & projects undertaken & Rzd. B. D. Bali.It is really unfortunate that such speakers/members, instead ofsolidly standing behind Rzd. B. D. Bali & the executive body ofthe GMS, to unite & consolidate the Mohyal biradari, are wastingtheir energy & efforts to disunite the biradari, by creatingdiscontent and spreading misinformation. Every Mohyal knowswhat such opportunistic persons have done to the MohyalEducation Society. It is only due to the efforts & influence of Rzd. B. D. Bali & histeam of executive members that Mohyal Bhawan at Inderpuri,Mohyal Foundation at Qutab Institutional Area, Mohyal Ashramsat Haridwar & Vrindavan & the coming Mohyal Ashram atGoverdhan could take shape. Had the said disgruntled personsbeen at the helm of affairs, then, no one in the Govt. Deptts.could have recognized them & land to Mohyal Foundation wouldnot have been allotted by DDA to GMS.I pray to God to grant wisdom, positivity & sense of responsibility& unity to the members, who are misguided & are adoptingshort cuts to come to the lime light, so that they can becomehelping hands of Rzd. B. D. Bali & his team of GMS. I also prayto God to give very good health & long life to Rzd. B. D. Bali, sothat, under his dynamic leadership & guidance, Mohyal biradariremains united.Let the said disgruntled elements spare time & do somethingselflessly for maintaining the unity of Mohyals.Jai Mohyal!Thanking you,

More & more references are still pouringin from different families and we are updating the dataaccordingly in the form of a Data Bank.

One set of data of 580 boys & girls was delivered, on thespot, to the President/Secretary of each sabha, for briefingthe families of their area. Since one set of 580 wardscomprised about 70 pages, it was not practically possible todeliver the set to each participant, who then numbered about1200. The delivery of one set to each participant could havebeen easily managed, had the data contained only about100 wards and an equal number of participants. The data, with telephone numbers & addresses, had also beenuploaded in our Website: - www.mohvalsabhakhanna.com,so that interested families could interact in advance ofpersonal meetings at the function.

It is also for general information that we had deliberatelyomitted, from the Form/Lists, the Manglik/Non-Manglikfeatures, because, as per the opinion of learned Pandits, themarriage of Mangliks can take place with Non-Mangliks, andvice-versa, depending upon the placement & direction of theStars and higher numbers of Gunh of wards. Thus the matterdoes not close, just by saying, at the first stage, Manglik orNon-Manglik. In order to ascertain the position of Stars, MSKhanna had, for the first time, engaged 5 Pandits, withComputers. About 370 families had utilised the services ofthese Pandits for matching kundlis.

After updating the data, a revised set has again been sent toevery local Mohyal Sabha of that area in April 2013. Thesame is also available on our Website -www.mohyalsabhakhanna.com, alongwith Contact Nos. ofthe President/ Secretary of each sabha, so that the concernedfamilies could contact & interact with each other for findingsuitable match for their wards after due verification throughPresident / Secretary concerned. Our approach is to providetransparency in the matter.

As was announced at the function by Shri Vinod Kumar Dutt,President, MS Khanna, we are indeed working, and shall becontinuously working, on this subject, for the welfare ofMohyal children & families. We are continuously in touch witheach sabha and propose to have a meeting, after a coupleof months, to analyse the effects of the function held on31.03.2013. Any suggestion is welcome, through our emailId: [email protected]

Again expressing our thanks to the GMS and other localsabhas for their support.

—Rajiv Mehta, Secretary MS Khanna

WHY ME?No one bothers about me, no onecares.Wherever I go, I get stares. On the road, I walk with my headdown. Why should I be targeted in thistown?I can’t travel about, or visit themalls. Why the whistles and thecatcalls? Why the touch wi thout myconsent?I am not an object for yourcontentment.Do you remember you too havea sister?

It can happen even with her,Mister. And the cycle will go on, again &againMany sisters will cry in agony &pain. In a country, where woman areprayed,Why do I feel like I am someone’sprey? Why should I be taught all theregulations? Why should I undergo all therestrictions?

Wherever I go, whatever way Idress.A ‘No’ means a ‘No’, and a ‘Yes’means a ‘Yes’.I was born as a girl, but that isnot my fault.I too have a right to live, just likeyou all.

Sweet Remembrances–Lt. Col. M.N.C. DattI met Mehta MNC Datt, for the first time, in April 1982, at the47th All India Mohyal Conference, held in New Delhi, which was

chaired by Bk. S.K. Chibber IAS(Retd.), former Lt. Governor,Mizoram. He had handed overhis suggestion papers to Rzd.S.B.S Bali, the then GeneralSecretary, for consideration ofthe same by the SubjectCommittee of the Conference, where I was present, along withmy daughter, Km. Uma Datta, the then Editor (Hindi) ofMohyal Mitter. I paid myrespects to Col. Sahib and heblessed me and my daughter. Iwas dazed to see him. Anupright Mohyal, with robustoutlook, he really appeared an

Army Officer, which impressed me a lot. Thereafter, he becameour guide and mentor.Lt. Col. M.N.C.Datt was the illustrious son of the eminent scholarof Vedas, a famous and accredited religious Mohyal Shastri,Shri Ram Chander Datt, also a renowned Arya SamajMissionary. Born on 24.01.1916, at Chakwal, he wascommissioned in the British Indian Army in 1941. He wasdeputed as Camp Commandant at Old Fort, Delhi, and servedthe uprooted and helpless refugees, including the Mohyals fromWest Punjab, and left no stone unturned in doing so. Havingbeen relieved from the Army in 1960, he joined the IntelligenceBureau, on deputation, as a Military Intelligence Officer, atJodhpur. He was deeply involved in the activities of the GMS,where he held the post of Senior Vice President. During histenure, the Constitution of GMS was revised and brought up todate. He was full of wisdom and his pieces of advice wereinvaluable. As a staunch Mohyal, he served the community fromthe core of his heart and even left, in his Will, a handsomeamount of Rs. 5 lacs to the GMS, in the Trust created by him, inthe service of the Mohyal community. ANTIM YATRAMYSTERY OF BIRTH & DEATH

‘The scriptures say that, as a man abandons an old house andgoes to a new one, so the Atma, in a body, abandons it, when itgrows old, builds another, and lives in it. One does not feel happy, when leaving one’s old house, because of long association withit. Likewise, the soul is not happy leaving the body, even if legs areswollen, the body is emaciated into a mere skeleton, and manstruggles for breath. Just as man forgets the old house, when thenew one is ready, the soul too, when it has a new dwelling, movesinto the new abode. Such is the mystery of life & death. If this is so,what cause do we have for fear or grief?’G.M.S expresses its heartfelt condolences to thebereaved families and prays to God to grant eternalpeace to the departed souls and strength to theirfamilies to bear with fortitude their irreparable loss.
