ESSENCE OF BHAGAVAD GITA Introduction: Bhagavad Gita was first spoken to the Sun God who explained itto Manu, who in turn explained itto lksvaku. Thus by disciplic succession, one speaker to another, this has been passed on. However in the course of Time it got lost. Consequently the Lord had to speak it againthis time to Arjuna on the bafflefield of Kurukshetra ie war between the Kauravs and the Pandavas. We are full of anxieties because ofthe material existence. We are born into a stream of existence and this cycle of birth, childhood, youth, old age, death and rebirth continues. To my mind, the sole purpose oflife is self realization. Law of Karma: Two children are born on the same day at the same time but in different environments. The parents of the first are wealthy and have been anxiously waiting for the arrival of their first child. Their child a boy, is bright, healthy and aifractive with a future full of promise. Surely destiny has smiled upon him. The second child is born to a mother who was abandoned while pregnant. In her poverty she feels little enthusiasm to rear her sickly offspring. Life ahead is full of hardships. The world is full of disparities like these that often provoke questions, How could Providence be so unfair? God is so unkind! The answer is No, because God is fair to all. His position is like that of a Judge who decides to give life imprisonment to one and all compensation to the other merely on the merit ofthe case. Hence it is our action or karma that determines our destiny. Our actions in the present life will decide our future destiny. Karma is like a bank account ofcredits and debits. Good Karma is like a credit in the account and bad Karma a debit - as you sow so shall you reap. Good Karma and bad Karma do not cancel each other. One will suffer all bad Karma and enjoy the fruits of all the good Karma done. Whatshould bedone: We can remove our defects only when we become aware of them. Mind is the author of all Actions. Therefore disciplining the mind is essential, which can be done by meditation. Renounce Lust, Wrath and Greed, since these are gates to Hell. Let Scriptures be your guide in determining what ought to be done and what should not be done. -Pramila Vaid, Gurgaon, pramiIavaidhotmaiI. corn

SOUTH ZONE NEW DELHI Date : 04.01.2015 Venue : AirportAuthority Of

India Officers Insti- tute New Delhi

Attendance : 19 In Chair : Gp Capt DC Mehta

(Retti) Hosts : Miss Pratima Datta

&ShriAnup Datta

At the outset Secretary whilst welcoming all the members for the first meeting ofthe year 2015, wished all a happy & prosperous 2015, he also thanked the hosts Pratima & Anup for their kind & thoughtful gesture of bringing a

cake, which will be cut in the course of the meeting to usher in the new year.

The proceedings of the meeting commenced with reciting I chant- ing the prayer. The Minutes of Dec 2014 meetings which had been published in Mohyal Mitter were passed by the house. The Trea- surer brought out the position of accounts which too were passed.

Sad News: The President Gp Capt D C Mehta informed the house of sad demise of Sh. OP. Mohan a doyen of the Commu- nity on 19 Dec. 2014 and the Chautha I Uthala was conducted on 22 Dec. 2014 at Arya Samaj Defence Colony New Delhi, which was attended by large number of Mohyals including from SZMS amongst others. Sh. Mohan was father-in-law of our member Col. RN. Bakshi and father of Smt. Rekha Bakshi; he was also, the maternal uncle of Rzd. BD. Bali President GMS. Sh. Kapil Daifa informed the house of the sad demise of Sh. Raghubir LaI Bakshi (retired from Delhi Police) originally from Tehsil Gujjar Khan Guliana (Pak) on 16th Dec. 2014. He is survived by his wife Smt. Rama Devi and three well settled sons at Jangpura New Delhi.

Happy News: President informed the house that Prof. J S Bali's 91st birthday was celebrated on 18th Dec 2014 at his house at Mehrauli where most of the members of South Zone were present, as an invitation was extended to all the members of the SZMS. The SZMS presented a Rocking Chair to Sh. Bali along with a

bouquet of flowers and a greet- ing card which was handed over by Ms. Akshadha Dutt (Grand- daughter of Gp Capt DC Mehta) the youngest member of the Sabah on behalf of all members.

There was much fun and merri- ment followed by a sumptuous lunch served with great devotion by the family. The birthday boy whilst appreciating the very thoughtful & apt gift, thanked SZMS for the kind gesture.

Issue 1. Facilitating I Honouring Senior Members of SZMS: The President proposed that SZMS should Facilitate & Honour the Member on attaining the age of 80 yrs., the school of thought be- ing in pursuance with the Govern- ment policy, wherein the Pension of a pensioner is enhanced on attaining the age of 80 yrs., it was also, proposed to recommend the issue to GMS for their kind con- sideration & implementation for their Life Members. After due de- liberations & discussions the pro- posai was accepted by the house. Sh. Kapil Daifa whilst appreciat- ing the gesture opined that we may extend the school of thought, especially in line with the govt. policy, we may consider honouring the member on attain- ing age of 60 yrs., the retirement age when an individual becomes a senior citizen. The house ap- preciating the view point put forth by Sh. Kapil accepted the same & it was decided that we may honour our members on attaing the age of 60 yrs. too.

Issue 2. Expenses Incurred in Facilitation I Honouring Mem- bers: lt was proposed & unani- mously decided the expenses will be borne by the Sabha, which will be subsequently reimbursed by contribution by all members.

Issue 3. Hosting of Lunch in Monthly Meetings: As is known a

well settled & time proven prac- tice I tradition has been set by the pioneers & founders of SZMS that a simple Vegetarian lunch be served by the hosts of the meet- ing. Usually the meetings were being held/conducted atthe resi- dences of the hosts, but of late due various reasons / in built con- straints the hosts have been opt- ing to hold / conduct meetings at restaurants / clubs. Coupled with this, it has been observed that there has been an appreciable increase in the number of mem- bers attending the meeting, which undoubtedly is a healthy & pro- gressive indicator. At times the numbers of attendees increases manifold & hence, increases the liability of the host, especially when meeting is being held / con- ducted in places outside the resi- dence of the host. A school of

thought has since emerged that A Level Playing Field to be pro- vided to all members & hence a

cap be spelt out as an upper limit of the expenditure to be borne by the host when the venue is a com- merciai / public place, expenditure over & above the laid down cap to be borne by the sabha. After taking into considerations the various pros & cons, it was de- cided that all ends ofjustice & fair play would be achieved if the up- per limit / cap is laid at Rs. 4000.

Issue4.An Evening Getlogether: Sh. Kapil Daifa along with his wife Ms. Kiran Datta expressed their desire to host an evening get to- gether for the members of SZMS. Accordingly, it was decided that the proposed get together be held at the AAIOI, on Friday the 20th Feburary, 2015 at 7 PM. Life is Like a Journey on a Train Life is like a journey on a train with its stations, with changes of routes and with accidents! We board this train when we are born and our parents are the ones who get our ticket. We believe they will always travel on this train with us.

However, at some station our parents will get off the train leaving us alone on this journey. As times goes by, other passengers will board the train, many ofwhom will be significant- our siblings, friends, children and even the love of our life. Many will get off during the journey and leave a permanentvacuum in our lives. Many will go so unnoticed that we won't even know when they vacated their seats and got offthe train!

This train ride will be full of joy, sorrow, fantasy, expectations, hellos, good byes, and farewells. A goodjourney is helping, loving, having a good relationship with all our co passengers and making sure that we give our best to make this journey comfortable. The mystery of this fabulous journey is -we do not know at which station, we ourselves are going to get off, so we must live in the best way- adjust, forget, forgive and offer the best we have. lt is important to do this, because when the time comes for us to leave our seat we should leave behind beautiful memories for those who will continue to travel on this train of life.
