Automation is operation of the irrigation system with minimum or even no manual interventions.

It is the irrigation system has increased application efficiency & reduced labour requirement.

What is Automation??

A. Time based systemIt is based on time.

B. Volume based systemIt is based on quantity/volume of water.

C. Sensor based systemIt is the moisture sensing system.

5

Controller Control valve Solenoid coil Automatic metering valve Master relay Remote control system Sensors Solar power system Electrical control Filter backwash system

6

It is the heart of the automation, which co-ordinate operation of the entire system.

It programmed to run various zones of an area for their required duration.

Multi-programme facility to suit different weather condition.

Option to connect moisture sensor, temp. sensor & other sensors having proper output.

Solenoid valveThe solenoid coil is used in that valve. It is used to control the flow from main to sub-main.

Fig. solenoid valve

9

Hydraulic valve. It operate on hydraulic pressure. A command can be transmitted to these hydraulic valve by using control tube & solenoid coil.

Fig. 3 hydraulic valve10

It translate electric pulses into hydraulic pulses, which enable to opening & closing specific hydraulic valve

It required 24-V-AC input It is mounted on valve are

connected to controller by electrical cable

11

fig. Automatic metering valves

It is used for volume based system , It shuts off itself after a preset quantity of water flows through the valve

Valves are inter-connected in series, it open after first valve closed

Shut down the irrigation pump after closure of last valve by connecting to the micro-switch

•Maximum stations supported: 48•Run times: Eight settings from 1-30 minutes•Range: Up to 1/2 mile obstructed, up to 2 mile line of sight

•Temperature: 0-150˚ F•Humidity: Up to 100%•System operating frequency: 27 MHz band•Install Smart-Port up to a maximum distance of 50' from controller

Remote Control Systems

Maximize yields

cost, labour, energy, water

Quality improve-ment

Management improvement

Forecasting softwares (Optional)

23

Operational flexibility

Operate at night

High efficienc

y of water

Lift irrigation & canal command network Greenhouse & nurseries Landscape & golf irrigation Drip irrigation system Sprinkler irrigation system Turf & sports On demand irrigation

24

Install the controller at eye level this will facilitate easy programming & reading the screen

Use voltage stabilizer to protect controller from voltage fluctuations

Always earth controller Use conduit pipes to carry the field wiring Avoid installing controller in room where

heat & moisture can be problem Protect the controller from water , insect &

other retiles. As far as possible install the controller

near to the water sources

25

It initial cost is high It require skilled labour to operate It is used for larger area If any damage occurs then high cost is

required

26

It is very useful method to irrigating large area

Time must be saved Regularity of drip irrigation system

increased Moisture content & field capacity will be

maintained Total yield will be increases
