Tier 4 Visa Application Guide
The International Student Advice Team at Oxford Brookes University have created this guide to help you apply for your Tier 4 visa from outside of the UK. This guide should not be used for visa applications made in the UK, and it is not endorsed by UK Visas and Immigration.

This guide is for TIER 4 students applying from
outside of the UK
Before you make your application you have to register an account with the
Home Office.
Answer all the questions marked with a *.
Make sure you use an email address that you check regularly
You will need to create a password with at least 8 characters including 1
capital letter, 1 lower case letter and 1 number. Make a note of your password
and keep it somewhere safe.
You will need to tick the box to agree to the terms and conditions.
Then click register.
Only choose ‘TIER 4 (General) (Sponsored) (Student)’ if you are sponsored by an organisation that meets the Home Office definition of a

Click on ‘Create Application’
Your name
This is your unique application reference number
This is the date you intend to travel
This is the date you started to complete the application
Click ‘Go To Application’
Keep a note of your unique application reference number
Some of your personal details will already be entered from when you registered. You
should check that the details are exactly as they are written
in your passport
Check that you are making the correct application
You must complete this section exactly as it
appears in your passport.
If you have ( or have ever had ) another
nationality you will need to declare this here.
When you click ‘Yes’ the form will ask you for
more information. If you are unsure you can
email [email protected]
If you already have accommodation organised in the UK then put the postcode in and then click ‘Find Address’. You will see a list of addresses. Click on the correct
address. If you don’t yet have your address then you can use the
Accommodation Bureau address. This is:
Accommodation Bureau, Lloyd Building,
Oxford Brookes University, Gipsy Lane, Headington,
OXFORD. OX3 0BP
You need to list all the information for the last 10 years. When you click
‘Yes’ you will see more options
You must provide details for any visa
refusals for any country for the last 10 years. Failing to declare a refusal is
classed as deception and can
lead to future refusals and bans
to enter the UK

You must include your children's details, even if
they are not travelling with you.
You must include details of any other children if they
are travelling with you.
It is important to note that if you are applying for a TIER 4 dependant visa for your child then both of the child's parents must be coming to the UK (although neither parent can be coming with immigration

Oxford Brookes
University is your TIER 4 sponsor. The sponsor
licence number is on your CAS letter.
You will also find the University address on
your CAS letter. Type in the University postcode
and then click ‘Find Address’. Select the correct address as on
your CAS letter. If you have not already received your CAS then you can find out how to
request your CAS at this link:

If you are starting a new course with Oxford Brookes University then your CAS number is on
your CAS letter.
If you are a continuing student you will need to email us the financial proof that you will be
using to make your visa application before we will issue
you with your CAS number. [email protected]

Select ‘Studying’ – unless you will be
working for the Students Union then email [email protected] for more information.
Check your CAS for this information. If
you are unsure which one to select then
you can email [email protected]
to ask. Don’t forget to include your CAS so that we can check
for you.
When you select ‘studying’ the next question will ask ‘Have you
been assessed by the sponsor by other means, for example
references or a portfolio of artwork?’ The answer to that
question is ‘No’. If you are unsure email [email protected] for more

If the money is in your own bank account select ‘Yes’
If you are using your own bank statements
then write: ‘ my original bank statements are included
-plus translation if needed’ You can see information about whether you

If you are from a low risk country and are making your application from the same
country then write: ‘ low risk- no documents needed’

If the money is in your parents bank account select ‘No’
If you are using your parents bank statements
then write: ‘ parents original bank statements, my
original birth certificate and parents letter included- plus translation if needed.

If you are from a low risk country and are making your application from the same

You can leave this box blank, unless you want to include any additional information that you think will be helpful for the Home
Office when they are deciding at your application
When you confirm your application you will see a summary of your answers.
Make sure that you check the answers carefully as this is the last chance you will get to change your answers before
you submit your application
It is important that you read the information here very carefully and then
enter your full name, as in your passport, in the signature box. Then click ‘Sign Declaration’
Your visa will be issued as a vignette (sticker) in your passport.
If your course is more than six months long then the vignette will be valid for 30 days only. The rest of the visa will be issued to you on a BRP
(Biometric Residence Permit- plastic visa card) that you will collect from
the University within 10 days of arrival.
To collect the BRP from the University you must enter the information as on the form here. The code is 2HE377
REMEMBER: When you receive your vignette you will also receive a letter about your BRP. It is very important that you bring this letter with you, as
without it you will not be able to collect your BRP.
