PROJECTThe project purpose is to set o a new COSV challenge in the county of Murang’a, near Mount Kenya, about two hour driving from Nairobi.Realized together with the cooperation of the local association SLICO, it has as main purpose to reduce the HIV transmission risks and to improve life conditions of those families aected by the disease; the prevention programme focuses on real needs and on the urgent need of a change in their behaviours.COSV has given a cow to every HIV-positive pregnant woman so that she could wean her baby from the cow’s milk .This simple thing has avoided the transmission of the virus from mother to child, and has also allowed to sell the remained milk thus becoming a little but steadily income for the family: the project is in fact addressed mainly to single women (often forsaken by their husbands after contracting the virus) who are often in a very dicult nancial situation.

THE FILM, TOLD BY CACTUSMatu is the result of the cooperation between Cactus studios and the COSV (Committee for the coordination of voluntary organizations), an NGO operating for over 40 years in the eld of the social solidarity in dicult geographical areas in Africa, South America, Asia, Middle East and Europe.Since the very beginning of its realization this short lm has had the style of a comedy: together with the COSV we have in fact decided not to insist on the evident drama of the virus, nor on the dramatic conditions of the patients, but we preferred to set o the beauty and joy of a project whose purpose is to pull many children away from a fate adverse from the very beginning of their lives. How to describe a child’s happiness and hope if not telling his possibility of having a dream, maybe unlikely or dicult but that can give him the chance of a future? The rst thing western people think of a child’s dreams is that they belong to everybody, with no geographical or social distinctions. On the contrary, meeting the most dicult realities in many parts of the world we have realized that dreaming is a luxury belonging only to few.Since the beginning it has been clear that the protagonist of our lm, Matu, would have the possibility to grow up strong and healthy taking with him his projects about the future and its legendary enterprises: it was through the naïve rapture for life that we wanted to tell about the COSV big result. Our Matu would have the possibility to have a glorious dream: to become an all over the world famous rapper. We then thought to put aside him our point of you, that is the one of the Western Man, played by a fty-year-old businessman, Davide (Mr. David), who arrives in Africa thinking he knows it as it has been described to him, through the clichés which live on in our opinions. This meeting is explosive. It seems that the two, who have never met before, know about each other much more than what is possible: Matu evokes Davide’s coming and his African misadventures; Davide, on the other hand, will tell Matu’s story, how Matu could grow up thanks to the COSV programme to help his family. The two parallel universes soon get in touch and mix together thanks to their capacity to tell about themselves and above all to listen. The wall of reality is knocked down to become a dream-like tale almost an initiation rite of each one to the things of the other, a meeting tale. Thus the cow and the milk, important symbols of the project, have a salvic meaning, characterized by a magic timing thanks to which they are in the right places at the right moment, ready to give the plot its turning points.

CONCERTS & SHOWS

Concert at “Santa Cecilia” Conservatory, Rome, ITALY..............30-31

Musical “Favolescion” - Italian Tour ..............32-33

“Santa Cecilia” Conservatory

The “Santa Cecilia” Music Conservatory in Rome counts 140 years. Its historical and cultural roots, though, date back even earlier, indentifying itself in those of the ancient Vertuosa compagnia de’ musici, then Congregazione de’ Musici di Roma sotto l’invocazione di Santa Cecilia (1565) become Accademia Pontificia, then Regia, and finally Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.

The founding of the first core of the school is attributed to the pianist and composer Giovanni Sgambati, who organized a piano course in the first institute of the Accademia, followed by the violinist Ettore Pinelli who create a violin course in 1869. During its 140 years of history hundreds of teachers came after each other: among them many distinguished and internationally-renowned artists. Sgambati and Pinelli’s heritage was taken over by Alfredo Casella and Arrigo Serato. Respighi, Pizzetti, Petrassi, Mortari made the superior classes in composition prestigious. Students from all around the world headed to the conducting class taught by Franco Ferrara. Amongst the greatest performers we remember Carlo Zecchi, Guido Agosti, Ornella Puliti Santoliquido, Pina Carmirelli, Dino Asciolla, Enrico Mainardi, Severino Gazzelloni, Domenico Ceccarossi, Ferruccio Vignanelli, Egida Sartori, Fernando Germani. In the singing course: Gemma Bellincioni, Antonio Cotogni, Bernardo Demuro, Paolo Silveri. Per la strumentazione per banda Alessandro Vessella. Among the musicologist: Luigi Ronga, Nino Pirrotta, Mario Rinaldi, Massimo Bogianckino, Diego Carpitella, Bruno Cagli. We can also count many distinguished artists among our alumni, such as Ennio Morricone, Carlo Maria Giulini, Armando Trovajoli, Giacomo Lauri Volpi, Mario Basiola, Vittorio Gui, Renzo Rossellini, Mario Rossi, Pierluigi Urbini, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Paolo Bordoni, Mariella Devia, Giuseppe Sabbatini, Gianni Moranti e Anna Magnani.

All this makes Santa Cecilia Conservatory one of the most renowned institution for music education, in Italy and in the World, and our course oer leads to confirm this preeminence, thanks to the organization of international projects, courses, seminars, masterclasses, taught by our best teachers and international guests, with a particular attention to the opportunities oered by the local entities to our students.

In the sign of an ideal continuity with the above-mentioned tradition, nowadays “Santa Cecilia” Conservatory represents and, thus, presents the unique ability to forge talents, bringing out our best students to the real world of the art and the profession. A great work granted by the teachers of the Conservatory, masters and performers, who pour over their musical history, moulding a potential talent to a bright career.

Musica e tecnologia nello studio del futuro

Music and technology in the studio of the future

Broad range skills, from music to computer science, from graphic design to video production, with 25 years of musical experiences and more than 10 working in the new technologies applied to music, are the strong points of the new born “Sound Cube - Media Project Studio”, inaugurated in via Gabrielli 56.Luigi Pulcini strongly worked for it, coining the slogan “We work with a special component: our passion!” And it’s really with passion that Luigi started his studies in classical music «a conscious choice, not an imposition as often it happens to children of that age – Luigi underlines, remembering – I fought against my parents for a piano until I got it! Now I’m studying composition at the Conservatory in Fermo and in Rome I will attend a course in “Virtual Orchestration”». With an upcoming bachelor of science in IT Engineering, Luigi joined two jobs and two passions, founding “Sound Cube”, a recording studio featuring the most advanced technology in the music eld and realized to receive soloists as well as small chamber orchestras. But Sound Cube features also scoring and dubbing services to companies and professionals in the audiovideo and multimedia industry. «In our studio we give voice, music and eects to any video production, from commercials to features lms».

Roma, September 7th, 2010

To whom it may concern

I am Maurizio Gabrieli and I studied Composition, Electronic Music and Bassoon as “Santa Cecilia” Conservatory in

Rome. During my studies I attended the lessons of some of the most important contemporary composers, such as K.

Stockhausen, H.W. Henze and S. Sciarrino. Now I have been holding the chair of Harmony, Counterpoint, Fugue and

Composition for 25 years at the most important Italian Conservatories and, during the last 10 years, at the prestigious

“Santa Cecilia” Conservatory in Rome.

Besides my academic experiences, I spent the last 30 years composing music for concerts, theater, ballet, animations

and lm. I am one of the nalists of the lm award “David di Donatello” and my music was performed in many

important theatres in Italy, Europe and United States. Recently I was invited to lecture in the Modern Music Festival at

the Conservatory in Beijin, CHINA and at the 14th International Conference on Distributed Multimedia Systems (DMS)

in Boston, USA.

I rst met Mr. Luigi Pulcini some years ago when he was attending the composition course in my class at “Santa Cecilia”

Conservatory. I immediately realized how exceptional and extraordinary his abilities are in both the music composition

– where I could verify his successful results in the study of the Fugue and of the Orchestration – and also in the eld of

the new technologies, applicated to the multimedia and cinematographic language. In more than one occasion, his

works, especially the ones written for the motion pictures, impressed me for the outstanding result he always reached.

Particularly in occasion of the workshop taught by the academy award winning composer Nicola Piovani at “Santa

Cecilia” Conservatory, the score produced by Mr. Pulcini demonstrated a professional use of the musical languages and

an extremely conscious relationship with the pictures. As a matter of fact, his work was honored as the best score at

the end of the workshop and Mr. Piovani himself used enthusiastic words to describe it.

For all these reasons, I am more than pleased to write this letter for Mr. Pulcini since I know that his upcoming career as

a lm composer will show how extraordinary his abilities are.

Sincerely,

Maurizio Gabrieli

To Whom It May Concern,

I am one of the two Italian members of the International Film Music Critics Association and an editor for the Italian lm music web magazine ColonneSonore.net. During the last 5 years, I contributed with essays, articles and reviews to the most important Italian magazines and web portals in the lm music industry, such as OScreen.it, Film.it, Spettatore and L’Acchiappalm.

As a lm music critic, I was invited at the “Santa Cecilia” Conservatory to attend a special event where four composers performed their scores for a short movie. Even though I could recognize that the quality of all the soundtracks was excellent, I was impressed by Mr. Pulcini’s result, which demonstrated an outstanding ability to musically interpret the story and an extraordinary skill in managing the several dierent styles used to comment the pictures. I was mainly astonished by the audacity he used to score the dialogues, which is one of the most challenging aspects of this job, as it requires an extreme sensitivity and a full understanding of the entire score design. All these requirements were completely fullled by Mr. Pulcini, showing an aesthetically fresh and original score, which perfectly lines up with an International language, without appealing those clichéd writing styles, so common to many situations of the Italian and, in some ways, European lm music industry. It’s not a surprise that these special qualities come also from wonderful experiences like working for Christopher Young on great projects such as “Drag Me To Hell” or “Love Happens”.The results demonstrated during that event pushed me to deepen my knowledge of his repertoire and I only found positive conrmations of my opinion: Mr. Pulcini’s works highlight his far from common talent and his extraordinary exibility in using the most dierent musical styles.

I certainly recommend Mr. Pulcini’s exceptional qualities to any director or production company that is looking for a young, yet experienced composer, a scrupulous attention for the demands of any narrative media, an over and above standard prociency in managing technical and technological devices and environments and, last but not least, a stylistic versatility to blend art and professionalism with an original and personal sensitivity.

To whom it may concern

My name is Piernicola Di Muro. I have been working actively as a composer for Film and TV for about 10 years. Among my most successful and recent titles I would mention the major Italian TV Series for RAI TV, “Tutti Pazzi per Amore” (2 seasons) and the features “Una Piccola Storia” (2006/07) and “L’Amore non basta” (the latter starring Giovanna Mezzogiorno).

During these years I got to know Luigi Pulcini, one of the top composers and programmer/arranger working in Italy. I worked with him on several projects and in every occasion he did an amazing job, bringing his highly professional experience to the service of my scores. His work demonstrated how much he is an exceptionally talented professional, technically perfect.Furthermore, counting on both his mature musical knowledge and his deep computer skills, Luigi developed a special customized computer called MASS (Most Advanced Sample Server) that is a really innovative and time saving solution for my production setup. Now I’m using this technology in all my music productions and I’m suggesting it to all my colleagues.

I strongly consider him one of the best (for sure the best I know) working professionals in this field and I’m looking forward to collaborating with him in the near future. These are the reasons why I am honored to write this letter on behalf of Luigi Pulcini, an invaluable musician, whose special capabilities and combination of talent, knowledge and experience have resulted in him becoming a top musician, composer, programmer, arranger and computer engineer.

I am a professional film composer. My credits include many feature films for production companies such as Warner Bros, Universal, 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures and many others. My works as a composer have earned me awards such as the BMI Jerry Goldsmith Film Scoring Award (2005) and the ASCAP Film Scoring Fellowship (2006).I am also the Vice President of “The Composer Collective”, founded by Evan Evans, a company comprising cinematic composers dedicated to creating dramtic scores of the highest quility for film, television, interactive and commercial media. For this reason we always look for new talents to include in our group.

I first met Luigi in 2008 while working on the score for the feature film “Eyeborgs”, a 1.7 million dollar film with Adrian Paul and Danny Trejo. Luigi has an awesome attitude and is an extremely talented composer and musician. I was impressed by the ability Luigi demonstrated not only fulfilling our musical requests, but also speeding up the technical side of the work. He has, in fact, literally thousands of useful ideas to make a composer’s life easier and smoother.Furthermore, Luigi was patient and good tempered about some painstaking revisions: a kind of positive attitude which is, to me, even more important than his considerable musical and technical talent.

As a matter of fact, Luigi earned a 4.0 (out of 5) certification for TeamScore rank, which is our internal benchmark to prove compoers’ abilities. This is an outstanding recognition considering that only 5 composers got that result, out of more than 700 who are curenctly connected to our group.

For all these reasons, I definitely hope to have Luigi involved again in some of our projects, as his participation makes always the workflow smooth and flawless.

Sincerely,

Matt Gates, composerVice President of “The Composer Collective”

To whom it may concern

My name is Giovanni Scapecchi and I am a professional composer.I teach “Score reading” at the “Francesco Cilea” Conservatory in Reggio Calabria, ITALY. I studied composition, piano, organ, harpsichord and electronic music. I specialized in film music composition with the academy award winning composers Nicola Piovani, Louis Bacalov and Ennio Morricone at Chigiana Academy in Siena, where I graduated with honors in 2003.During the last ten years I received international awards such as the First Prize at the “Euritmia International Composition Competition” (2007), the Public Prize at the “Alkmaar International Call for Scores” (2006) and I was selected at many important film festivals, such as the “New York City Horror Film Festival” (2008).My compositions have been performed in many countries such as Italy, Austria, Poland, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Belgium, United States, France, Switzerland and broadcasted in Europe through the most important Italian TV networks.

I met Mr. Luigi Pulcini for the first time while I was working on the score for a TV documentary brodcasted in Italy by RAI TV channel. At that time, Mr. Pulcini was working as an orchestrator for the film composer Angelo Talocci, one of the most important Italian TV composers. Amazed not only by Mr. Pulcini’s extreme talent in music composition and orchestration, but also by his astonishing ability to manage any kind of musical equipment and software, I asked him to collaborate with me and help me out to achieve the same production quality he was giving to his own works.

I experimented how deep and solid his preparation in both music and audio engineering fields can be. His ability to solve any kind of technical problem is simply outstanding. But the most important aspect is that he is also an extremely talented composer: for this reason every technical solution he finds is always led to ease a composer’s life particularly from a musical perspective.

I recommend without any doubt his talent as both a composer and an engineer and I am sure that he can easily find several opportunities to expose his incredible abilities, expecially in the United States where the technological innovation in the film music industry is reaching the highest level in the world. I cannot see a better place for him to establish his career as a film composer.

Sincerely, Giovanni Scapecchi

To Whom It May Concern,

I am a composer, arranger, music director and pianist. I am the president of the American-Hungarian Association of Art and the Cultural Secretary of the United Hungarian House in Los Angeles. As a composer and arranger I have worked with multi Grammy-awarded artists such as George Duke, Kevin Mahogany and others. As a piano player I toured Australia, China and Hong Kong, several European countries in venues such as the Olympia concert hall in Paris. Currently I am working as a film composer in Los Angeles.

Luigi is an artist of rare, exceptional talent. He is a professional sound engineer, computer technician and a brilliant film composer. I was amazed by his professionalism in the studio. He solved all my technical issues. His meticulous attention to detail added immeasurably to the quality of my projects, and I feel both honored and grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a gifted and extremely creative engineer. Luigi’s music is very thematic and melodic, beautifully unveiling his traditions and his studies in Italy.

In 2011 I will work on a movie “The Glass House”, a feature film about Jews people in World War 2, struggling to avoid persecution prior to the Holocaust. I have every intention of hiring Luigi as an engineer and additional composer for the project.

With his talent and musical gift, Luigi can add enormous value to the film industry, bringing his music culture to Hollywood and following the same traditions of other famous Italian composers.

To Whom it May Concern,

My name is Bryce Jacobs and I am a composer and performer at Hans Zimmer’s lm music studio Remote Control Produc-tions. I write in recommendation of my good friend and colleague Luigi Pulcini.

I’ve known Luigi for some years now and over this time I have found Luigi not only to be an extremely talented musician and programmer, but also a great friend that I would consider in the highest regard.

Luigi particularly excels as a composer and engineer. He is very gifted in the areas of music and mathematics which translates seamlessly into his everyday work in lm; this allowing him to engineer and produce any piece of music tha his creativity conceives. He has over time conceptualized and built complete computer systems to aid and augment the compositional process, not only for himself but for others in his eld. His latest achievement is his “MASS” computer system which in its application facilitates the organization and processing of bulk musical samples over a local area network (all triggered by a MIDI kayboard). This allows for the compositional process to be streamlined for the writer at a whole new level and ease of workow especially when under the incredibly tight deadlines of post production schedules. Luigi is a substantial asset to a large variety of professional areas in the lm music world.

As a friend, Luigi had always gone above and beyond for all those who have needed him (old friends and new alike). He is an invaluable member of any team and can be trusted with the greatest of condence.

In essence, I can not recommend him more highly for this visa application. Luigi, as I started before, is truly a fantastic musician, a true gentleman and a great friend.

Thank you for your time, please don’t hesitate to contact me if any further information is required.

Re: Luigi Pulcini

Dear Immigration Examiner:

My name is Kostas Christides and I am film composer/orchestrator. I have been living and working in Los Angeles for the last 13 years. I have composed music for films (Love Happens, The Core, Dark Ride, Perkin’s 14, Swordfish), TV (Crime time animation series, 29 Reasons to Run) and also I have orchestrated in numerous projects such as Spiderman 3, The Grudge, Sweet November, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Hurricane etc. In 2006, at the Annual Greek film Awards, I received the Award for best Music in Feature Film, for my work in the film Eduart.

I have known Mr. Pulcini for almost two years, while working as a team manager on several projects at Christopher Young’s studio. In my opinion Mr. Pulcini is a very talented composer with a strong grasp of both drama and music – a rare skill, which is vital to composing music for film and television. He has consistently shown that in addition to his talent, he is dedicated and hard working, bringing the highest standards of quality to his work. His Italian background combined with his musical sensibilities, provide him with a unique musical voice – something sought after by many filmmakers.

In addition, I should mention his tremendous knowledge about technology, which is a must, nowadays for a film composer. His precision about things, his persistence to resolve successfully any technological issues that may arise and definitely the ability of handling any kind of problems of this nature, smoothly and quickly make him a vital asset to a proper and professional studio.

His professionalism and definitely one of the most important things for me, his personality, make me strongly support Mr. Pulcini’s visa petition and I trust that you will recognize the staggering talent and achievement of this composer and grant him the extraordinary ability status to which he is so obviously entitled.

Yours truly,

Kostas Christides

I am pleased to submit this letter on behalf of an extraordinary music producer and music

technology specialist, Luigi Pulcini.

I am a Canadian composer and band leader with 12 years experience in the entertainment

business. In 2008, I was musical director for the famous Cirque du Soleil equestrian show

Cavalia. As a pianist, I had the opportunity to perform with renowned artists such as Gregory

Charles, Nanette Workman, Johanne Blouin, as well as some of the fine artists out of Star

Academy. I recently worked in Los Angeles as music engineer and orchestrator for Jesper Kyd

on the Assassin’s Creed series (Ubisoft’s best selling game). I’m currently composer on

Hollywood Wasteland, #1 TV web series on Koldcast TV in September 2010.

Luigi has been my music technology consultant for two years now. In 2009, he

introduced me to his revolutionary MASS computer technology. This ground-breaking product

has revolutionised my way of composing music for film. It’s the only system available on the

market that allows a 120-pieces orchestral template to run perfectly at a latency as low as 128

samples.

I also had the opportunity to witness Luigi’s gift for computer sciences on a recording I

did for virtuoso violinist Roxane de Lafontaine (performed with George Martin from The

Beatles). Luigi virtually connected my sequencer to his personal server so that I could use his

orchestra samples from a distance. He made my busy schedule much easier to handle, and my

demanding client very satisfied.

Being an extremely knowledgeable music programmer and a composer with a rare ability

to express emotions through music, Luigi is a consummate musician in every level.
