Supplementary Cementitious Materials

Concrete Technology

What is SCM’s

• Materials that, when used in conjunction with portland or blended cement, contribute to the properties of concrete through hydraulic or pozzolanic activity or both.

• A hydraulic material reacts chemically with water to form cementitious compounds.

Type

• Fly ash • slag cement• silica fume and natural pozzolans

• Calcined shale• Metakaolin • Other calcined clays

Natural Pozzolans in Concrete• Write on your own:

• Speficication, technical aspect, and how to use each one of them in concrete

• Collect your work within 48 hours, after the class!
