Executive Report

Make My Trip, a travel and tourism Service Company is a pioneer in online travel industry in

India. This company was founded in the year 2000 by Deep Kalra. It is a creation of the founder

to empower the Indian travellers with quick booking and wide-ranging choices. The company

began its journey in the US-India travel market. It aims to offer a range of best-value products

and services along with fast moving technology and 24 X 7 customer support services.

Make My Trip has been led by the vision and the spirit of each of its employees, for whom no

idea was too big and no problem too difficult. It provides today a range of variety of travel

packages under one roof. Initiating with international travel service in US, now Make My Trip

provides domestic travel package in India as well. Make My Trip has expanded itself into 20

cities across India and 2 international offices in New York and San Francisco with its 24 × 7

customer support.

While I was given this company, it was my pleasure to be a part of an MNC. At MMT I had an

opportunity to learn a lot of marketing skills viz. customer handling, currency exchange with

respective dealers, making client vouchers for international packages, determining Visa

according to different itineraries, market determination and competition that lies for every

package. The most interesting was scratching out information from the competitors during a

small project offered on the comparison of “Europe Tour Package of 14 Night and 15 Days”.

These competitors include SOTC, Thomas Cook and Make My Trip itself. Out of which I was

able to conclude that in all respect Make My Trip is providing a better package out of three.

Alas! The learning would have been more but we had just 12 days, it gave me an immense

pleasure to be in a corporate environment and work in an office bound time form 9.30 am to 7

pm.

Introduction

MakeMyTrip.com, India’s leading online travel company was founded in the year 2000 by Deep

Kalra. Created to empower the Indian traveller with instant booking and comprehensive choices,

the company began its journey in the US-India travel market. It aimed to offer a range of best-

value products and services along with cutting-edge technology and dedicated round-the-clock

customer support.

After consolidating its position in the market as a brand recognized for its reliability and

transparency, Make My Trip followed its success in the US by launching its India operations in

2005.

With the foresight to seize the opportunities in the domestic travel market, brought on by a swing

of new airlines, Make My Trip offered travellers the convenience of online travel bookings at

rock-bottom prices. Rapidly, it became the preferred choice of millions of travellers who were

delighted to be empowered by a few mouse clicks!

Its rise has been led by the vision and the spirit of each one of its employees, for whom no idea

MMT Services

Domestic Flights: MMT provides its customers a facility to plan their domestic trip without

taking any trouble of going to the airport and book a ticket. It provides this facility in two

ways:

i. Via Web Portal: Using company’s web portal customers can book their ticket online

sitting at home.

ii. Via Regional Office: Here a customer can directly come to the office for having their

tickets booked.

International Flights: It functions in similar fashion for international trip and provides

facilities of VISA.

Hotels: MMT has corporate relations with all standard hotels be it a three star or above and

even includes average hotels. They provide pick and drop facility to their guests while they

are availing MMT services.

Flight Plus Hotel: It is a combo package for those guests who want to be tension free and

just want to enjoy their trip. Be it professionals or be it a tourist, for everyone this is a

combination package whereby a guest gets his fight ticket with the choice of hotel he wants

to stay in. This facility is available in both domestic and international flight services.

Holiday Packages: As mentioned earlier MMT is just not a ticket booking company or a

travel agency which helps you have your tickets and hotels rather it’s much more than that.

MMT provides a list of holiday packages both at domestic and international level. Exotic

Andaman, Bhutan, Land of gross happiness, Uttarakhand delight etc. are some holiday

packages in India.

Phuket Gateway, Budget Friendly Thailand, Twin Australia, Swiss Paris delight, Russian

delight are international tour package to name a few.

Major International tour packages provided by MMT are for countries like Australia, Dubai,

Europe & UK, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Singapore and Thailand.

Cruise: MMT also provides cruise trip at three major destinations:

o Asia: Malacca, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Phuket, Krabi, Hong Kong

o Europe: Italy, Tunisia, Balearic Is., Spain, France

o USA & Canada: Seattle, Washington, Miami, Florida

Activities: MMT have a well-organized tour packages for different activities under the head

of Adventure, Culture, Family and Romance.

Cars: MMT provides their guest an online facility to book a car on rent or self-drive cars

through their web portal at both domestic and international level. This facility is available to

online booking customers only and is not provided by regional offices.

Bus Booking: A similar facility like those of cars.

Rail Booking: Here also you can book your railway ticket or can opt for a railway package

like New Delhi Vaishno Devi Package, Kashmir Paradise Package, North to North East

Package.

Objective

My Objective at MMT was to learn the very way it operates its different functionalities and to

get a knowhow of the work culture prevailing over there.

Learning

At MMT I had an opportunity to learn a lot of marketing skills viz. customer handling, currency

exchange with respective dealers, making client vouchers for international packages, determining

Visa according to different itineraries, market determination and competition that lies for every

package. The most interesting was scratching out information from the competitors during a

small project offered on the comparison of “Europe Tour Package of 14 Night and 15 Days”.

These competitors include SOTC, Thomas Cook and Make My Trip itself. Out of which I was

able to conclude that in all respect Make My Trip is providing a better package out of three.

Alas! The learning would have been more but we had just 12 days, it gave me an immense

pleasure to be in a corporate environment and work in an office bound time form 9.30 am to 7

pm. While doing the project I had to go to SOTC and Thomas Cook office to gather the required

information. It’s very difficult to gather information in detail with your competitor after you

know the technical words of the company. I approached Abha Borgaonkar, Deputy Manager

Sales SOTC and Tanmoy Datta, Customer Relation Executive, Thomas cook to grab the

information in detail. It’s obvious that you can grab the data online from their sites but my actual

task was to know the waiver they provide on their tour package. It was difficult to extract the

information from both the companies but here below is what I could gather.

Conclusion

Looking at all the facilities in terms of itineraries, hotel facilities and standards, tour stay

package, daily meals I could conclude that MMT was giving a good deal to its customers and is a

better option than any other organization in terms of overall facilities. This project was just to

mark a comparison between three companies. Apart from this project I also learned about

performance appraisal that the organization is practicing. The organization records their daily

sales and matches with their expected target. Besides a daily morning meeting with the regional

head gave me an idea of how well the organizational activities are being taken into consideration.

Despite being a 10 hours long working day I used to enjoy my work as each day was a new

experience and new learning to me.
