Kv s t e p w it h The community surrounding ODU is both residential and retail. Located immediately across from the westside of campus are the businesses along Hampton Blvd. These businesses offer the university students many services. However, they are soon to be extracted, in order to make room for the Master Plan expansion. Some businesses do not agree with the expansion, but they may be able to secure a new business site in the upcoming University Villiage. Although the businesses have differing opinions about their approaching transition; they still support university activities through donations and organizational sponsorships. The 4400 Club donated pizza to Superdance and Batterson's hosted the Zeta Tau Alpha Crush Party. Hooters of Waterside donated about nine hundred chicken wings for the Student Senate Tailgate Party. Mad Mikes supports the Greek Games which give the greeks the opportunity to socialize and compete against each other. The local 7-Eleven stores offer quick munchies and and Dominion Bookstore offers an alternative way to buy and sell back books. The local residential areas vary from Historic Ghent to the remnants of the early twentith century textile industry. The local apart-ments are small and crowded, but the students still call them home. Five minutes south of campus is down- town Norfolk. Norfolk is taking steps to revitalize itself by cleaning up the streets and bring-ing in new industries. A new mall called Mac- Arthur Center is half complete. This mall will bring stores called Nordstrom's, Dillard's, and other marque names. Not only was the CBS college tour for the campus but it was open to the community. Rebecca Winn and a friend acted out a skit mirrored from a CBS Television show to win a prize.

Local businesses provideemployment for many students. Adrienne Rogers served up 31 flavors at Baskin Robbins on the com er of Hampton Blvd. and 48th Street.
