Early story...Nina Dobrev was born in Sofia, Bulgaria (January 9 of

1989) and moved to Canada at the age of two, where she was raised in Toronto, Ontario. Her mother is an artist, and her father is a computer scientist. She has one older brother. From a very young age, she showed great enthusiasm and talent for the arts: dance, gymnastics, theatre, music, visual arts and acting. Dobrev attended J. B. Tyrrell Sr. Public School and Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts in Scarborough, Ontario. She attended Ryerson University in Toronto, majoring in sociology. She left in 2008 to pursue her acting career.

Career Modeling jobs led to commercials, which then

turned into film auditions. Shortly thereafter, she booked roles in feature films, including Fugitive Pieces, Away from Her, Never Cry Werewolf, and the television series Degrassi: The Next Generation. She starred in a number of Lifetime original movies. She also was in an MTV movie called The American Mall on CTV. She is currently starring in The CW's drama The Vampire Diaries.

About The Vampire Diaries She plays the dual

role of Katherine Pierce, a vampire that the both brothers loved while they were still human during the American Civil War, and Katherine's doppelganger Elena Gilbert, a human who is caught between the same two vampire brothers, Damon and Stefan Salvatore. Dobrev and her The Vampire Diaries co-star Ian Somerhalder are dating, taking their romance public in June 2011

Career...In August 2010, Dobrev appeared in

the opening sketch of the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards.

In April 2011, she was cast as Candace in the film adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower, alongside Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Paul Rudd. Shooting began in May of that year in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and she completed her scenes on June 27.

Philanthropy • In September 2011, Dobrev co-hosted We Day alongside

Joe Jonas. The two led the electric crowd of 18,000 student leaders through a day of inspiring speeches and performances from an epic line-up of Nobel Peace Laureates, world-renowned social activists, Golden Globe, Grammy and JUNO Award winners.

• Dobrev also designed a T-Shirt with Me to We Style, an eco-friendly social enterprise which donates 50% of its profits to Free the Children.

Project Pink• The Project Pink campaign features a new line of t-

shirts, bags, and other items where 100% of their sales will go breast cancer-research charities. The campaign is also calling people all around to help support — you can nominate another charity and PUMA will donate the grand prize to them! All you have to do is tweet the hash tag #projectpink from now until October 31 to have PUMA donate $1 per day, per username (up to $25,000).

Curiosities • One of Nina’s hobbies is making jewelry. She plans

on starting her own jewelry line in the future.• Nina considers Rachel McAdams her hero and idol.

She also lists child rights advocate Craig Kielburger and veteran actress Meryl Streep among the people she admires.

• Before being cast as the love interest of two vampires in CW’s The Vampire Diaries, Nina was a fan of the Twilight book series and dreamed of playing the part of Bella in the movie. She is also a huge follower of another vampire show, HBO’s True Blood.

• Nina is 5′ 6½” (1.69 m) tall.

• Nina has competed internationally representing Canada in Aesthetic Group Gymnastics. In 2005, she joined both the Senior World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark and the Junior World Championships in Plzen, Czech Republic.

• Nina traveled to Kenya where she built a school with fellow Degrassi castmates through Free The Children (a non-profit organization). She also wore a top promoting the cause towards the end of her movie, American Mall.

• Nina was in a Family Channel commercial about standing up against bullying.

• She is fluent in Bulgarian, French, and English. For her role as Bella in the World War II drama Fugitive Pieces, Nina had to learn Yiddish phonetically.
