Guarantee and CompensationBarco provides a guarantee relating to perfect manufacturing as part of the legally stipulated terms of guarantee. On receipt, the purchasermust immediately inspect all delivered goods for damage incurred during transport, as well as for material and manufacturing faults Barcomust be informed immediately in writing of any complaints.

The period of guarantee begins on the date of transfer of risks, in the case of special systems and software on the date of commissioning,at latest 30 days after the transfer of risks. In the event of justified notice of complaint, Barco can repair the fault or provide a replacementat its own discretion within an appropriate period. If this measure proves to be impossible or unsuccessful, the purchaser can demand areduction in the purchase price or cancellation of the contract. All other claims, in particular those relating to compensation for direct orindirect damage, and also damage attributed to the operation of software as well as to other services provided by Barco, being a componentof the system or independent service, will be deemed invalid provided the damage is not proven to be attributed to the absence of propertiesguaranteed in writing or due to the intent or gross negligence or part of Barco.

If the purchaser or a third party carries out modifications or repairs on goods delivered by Barco, or if the goods are handled incorrectly,in particular if the systems are commissioned operated incorrectly or if, after the transfer of risks, the goods are subject to influences notagreed upon in the contract, all guarantee claims of the purchaser will be rendered invalid. Not included in the guarantee coverage aresystem failures which are attributed to programs or special electronic circuitry provided by the purchaser, e.g. interfaces. Normal wear aswell as normal maintenance are not subject to the guarantee provided by Barco either.

The environmental conditions as well as the servicing and maintenance regulations specified in the this manual must be complied with bythe customer.

About this chapterRead this chapter attentively. It contains important information to prevent personal injury while installing the FLX-24. Furthermore,it includes several cautions to prevent damage to the FLX-24 parts. Ensure that you understand and follow all safety guidelines,safety instructions and warnings mentioned in this chapter before installing the FLX-24. After this chapter, additional “warnings” and“cautions” are given depending on the installation procedure. Read and follow these “warnings” and “cautions” as well.

1. Safety

1.1 Safety guidelines

Personal protection

WARNING: Ensure you understand and follow all the safety guidelines, safety instructions, warnings andcautions mentioned in this manual.

Installation personnelThis installation must be performed by authorized and qualified technical personnel only.

Accredited safety officers must ensure the safety of the site, construction, assembly, connection, use, dismantling, transport etc. ofsuch safety critical systems.

CautionInstallation should be performed only after you are thoroughly familiar with all of the proper safety checks and installation instructions.To do otherwise increases the risk of hazards and injury to the user.

Assembly parts are designed for intended use only in conjunction with FLX .

Do not modify and/or replicate any component. Barco uses specific materials and manufacturing processes in order to achieve partstrength. Consult Barco for assistance with custom applications.

Always follow Barco installation instructions. Contact Barco if you should have any question regarding the safety of an application.

The manufacturer assumes no liability for incorrect, inadequate, irresponsible or unsafe assembly of systems.

Product careStructural & mounting components should be kept dry, clean, lubricated (only if recommended), coated properly, and otherwisemaintained in a manner consistent with part design. Barco products must be used in a manner consistent with their design andinspected on a routine basis for security, wear, deformation, corrosion and any other circumstances that may affect the load handlingcapability of the part.

Barco recommends inspections at regular intervals for all installations and increasing in frequency for more critical installations. Ifa part is found to have damage, which may cause a decrease in load capability, the part must be removed for service or replacedimmediately.

Under no circumstances are Barco parts repairable by anyone other than Barco.

1.2 Important safety instructions

Instructions:

• Read these instructions.• Keep these instructions.• Heed all warnings.• Follow all instructions.• Clean only with materials or chemicals that are inert, nonabrasive, noncorrosive and non-marking. Consult the manufacturer

for further advice should any doubts exist regarding any cleaning procedure.• Do not block ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.• Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that

produce heat.• Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding type plugs/sockets. If the provided sockets/plugs are damaged

then replacement of the defective parts must be undertaken immediately.• Protect the power/data cords from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point

where they exit from the apparatus. Replace damaged power/data cords immediately.• Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.• Disconnect the power to this apparatus during lightning storms or provide suitable additional lightning protection. Unplug this

apparatus when unused for long period of time.• Refer all servicing to qualified service technicians/personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in

any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, the apparatus does not operate normally, or has been dropped.• Use only with systems or peripherals specified by the manufacturer, or sold with the apparatus. Use caution during lifting/moving

or transporting to avoid damage by possible tipping.• All locking mechanisms should function properly. Any malfunction locking mechanism of an FLX product should be replaced

prior to product installation.

1.3 Important warnings

Important warnings:

• Maximum and minimum ambient temperature:The maximum ambient temperature for the LED wall is 60 °C, the minimum temperature is -20 °C.

• High leakage current:The combination of multiple FLX Power System DPR-2700 units and FLX-NNI Controller units in an installation results in in-creased levels of leakage current. In order to avoid risk of electric shock due to high leakage current, proper grounding of theinstallation is required.

• Flammable materials:Keep flammable materials away from the installation (such as curtains). A lot of energy is transferred into heat. The installationshould be such that the amount of air flow required for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised. Proper ventilationmust be provided.

• Disconnect deviceA readily accessible disconnect device shall be incorporated in the building installation wiring. See also chapter "Importantwarnings for the FLX Power System DPR-2700", page 7.

• Risk of electric shock / Risk of fire:To protect against risk of fire by overloading of power cables, MAXIMUM 256 FLX-24 pixels may be connected to one outputport of the FLX-HUB and MAXIMUM 8192 FLX-24 pixels may be connected to one power output socket of the FLX Powerchassis DPR-2700. The FLX Power System DPR-2700 must be connected to the local power net according the manufacturerspecifications and installation instructions delivered with the FLX Power System DPR-2700. If you are unable to install the ACrequirements, contact your electrician. Do not defeat the purpose of the grounding.

• No self supporting power/data cablesThe FLX-24 Connector strings are not self supporting.

• This equipment MUST be earthed:In order to protect against risk of electric shock, the installation should be properly grounded. Defeating the purpose of thegrounding type plug will expose you to the risk of electric shock.

• Power system:It is recommended to use a TN-S power distribution system (a power distribution system with a separate neutral and groundingconductor) in order to avoid large ground current loops due to voltage differences in the neutral conductor. The total electricalinstallation should be protected by an appropriately rated disconnect switch, circuit breakers, over voltage protector and GroundFault Current Interrupters. The installation shall be done according to the local electrical installation codes. In Europe specialattention should be given to EN 60364, the standard for electrical installation of buildings. In Germany VDE 0100 should beadhered to. In America, special attention should be given to the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70.

• Mains cords:The power cords delivered with this system have special properties for safety. They are not user serviceable. If the power cordsare damaged, replace them only with new ones. Never try to repair a power cord.

• Data cables:The data cables provided with this system have special properties for safety. They are not user serviceable. If the data cablesare damaged, replace them only with new ones. Never try to repair a data cable. Avoid exposure of data cables to accidentalcontact with lightning or power conductors.

• IP66 rating:The FLX-24 pixels, the FLX-HUB units and there connecting wires have an IP66 rating and are therefore totally protectedagainst dust and against high pressure water jets from any direction. Do not use these FLX products in an environment whichrequire a better protection rating then the rating it was designed for. The FLX Power System DPR-2700 and the FLX-NNIController units can only be used indoor in a dust free and dry environment.IP-ratings are defined by the IEC 60529 and this standard also explains in detail how the tests should be performed. Thisincludes the duration (time) which the equipment shall withstand water without damage or malfunction.Ingress Protection (IP) rating is identified by a code that consists of the letters IP followed by two digits and an optional letter.

This requires a higher protection rating.

1. Safety

1.4 Important warnings for the FLX Power System DPR-2700

Important warnings for the FLX Power System DPR-2700Products are not liable for any hazards incurred by not following proper safety procedures. Installation, Operation and maintenancepersonnel should always follow these safety rules:1. Caution - Do not install or remove any FLX Power Rectifier DPR-2700 unit with the AC Breaker On. The AC Breakers must be

switched to the off position prior to inserting a rectifier unit into a shelf.2. Before the shelf is operational, the AC input frequency and voltage must be verified, AC break rating and type is adequate, and

other environmental conditions as noted in the specifications are met.3. The shelf has passed stringent system testing prior to shipment. To avoid electrical shock, the FLX Power System DPR-2700

shelf requires a single ground point permanently connected to earth ground.4. An AC Breaker must provide adequate isolation between the shelf input and Commercial AC Main.5. The environment should be dust free and controlled by an air condition system. The area must be free of any flammable vapors

or fluids.6. To avoid electrical hazard, the covers must not be removed on any component including the CSU and Rectifiers.7. Circuit breakers must be replaced with approved replacement circuit breakers meeting the original design specification.8. All AC connections must be made per the latest issue of the National Electrical Code and must also conform to all local codes.9. Air flow: Installation of the power supply in a rack should be such that the amount of air flow required for safe operation of the

power supply is not compromised. The required space is as follows:- Top: 4 inch- Bottom: 4 inch- Front: 12 inch- Rear: 12 inch

10. The power supply should only be installed in a “Restricted Access Location”. The definition of a “restricted access location" isa location for equipment where both of following paragraphs apply:- Access can only be gained by SERVICE PERSONS or by USERS who have been instructed about the reasons for therestriction applied to the location and about the precautions that shall be taken.

- Access is through the use of the tool or lock and key, or other means of security, and is controlled by the authority responsiblefor the location.

11. The equipment is not provided with surge protector. When installing, the external surge protector would be required if AC mainstransient voltage exceeds 2500Vpk.

12. Operating ambient temperature: If installed in a closed or multi rack assembly, the operating ambient temperature of the rackenvironment may be higher than the room ambient. Therefore, consideration should be given to install the power supply not inan environment with an ambient temperature of 33°C or higher.

13. Mechanical loading: Mounting of the power supply in a rack should be such that a hazardous condition is not achieved due touneven mechanical loading.

14. Reliable earthing: the power supply should be reliable earthed. Do not connect the ground conductor to the system neutral.The size of the ground conductor should be minimum 8 AWG.

15. AC input connections: All the AC cables can be connected to shelf main input terminals. The recommended AC wires are:- for a Y connection: 8 AWG L1/L2/L3/N- for a Delta connection: 6 AWG L1/L2/L3

16. The FLX Power System DPR-2700 is only for connection with the Barco FLX-HUB.17. A readily accessible disconnect device shall be incorporated in the building installation wiring. The disconnect device shall be

a circuit breaker or a branch fuse according to the following rating: maximum 60A with 3 poles L1 L2 L3.18. The removable FLX Power Rectifier DPR-2700 units are not HOT SWAPPABLE! The main power must be removed before

unplugging a rectifier.19. A fire enclosure is required in the end installation. Therefore it is mandatory to mount a full metal plate at the top and bottom of

the FLX Power System DPR-2700. The distances specified in point 9 must be respected.

during normal operation. Such situations include but are not limited to lasers, ultrasonic vibration, or any type of substance thatprevents proper ventilation and heat radiation of the FLX products.

• Power connected to the FLX products must meet the specifications outlined in the installation manual.• Never place an FLX-24 pixel upon a surface with the LED’s side facing downwards. This to prevent damage.• No force can be applied to the LED’s. Any LED’s damaged due to mechanical stress are not covered by the warranty.• Safety and functional features of the FLX-24 pixels cannot be defeated.• Any failures must be immediately and appropriately dealt with (equipment returned to Barco?). Failing equipment cannot be

left to run in an FLX display.• Only Barco cables specified to be used with the FLX products are to be used to connect components in an FLX display. Further,

care must be taken to connect signal only according to the installation manual.• FLX products are not to be used in the vicinity of any equipment that is not CE and UL/ETL certified.• FLX products are not to be transported for any distance in containers other than Barco FLX flight cases or Barco FLX single

unit packaging. Further, even the use of Barco flight cases or packaging material does not guarantee the FLX products againstdamage due to excessive force of impacts.

• FLX products are not to be connected to any non-Barco equipment.• FLX products can be cleaned only in accordance to the procedures defined in the installation manual.

2.1 Mechanical requirements

Mechanical requirements for the FLX-24 pixelBarco offers different carrying systems for the FLX-24 pixel such as the FLX-P50, FLX-P100, FLX-N100, etc. These standard FLXcarrying systems allows a creative, flexible, fast and easy set up of the FLX-24 pixels. The mechanical installation requirementsdepend on the FLX carrying system used. Consult the installation manual, which comes with the FLX carrying systems, to know themechanical requirements of the FLX carrying system.

Next to the standard FLX carrying systems that Barco offers, you can design your own FLX carrying solution. The illustration belowshows the cutting dimensions for the FLX-24 pixel. For more information or help about FLX-24 pixel support grids, contact Barco.

Alignment of the FLX-24 pixelsIt is recommended that all pixels of the same display are equally oriented to avoid color deviations when looking at the display underextreme viewing angels. There are two solutions to align the FLX-24 pixels easily.1. The first solution is using a support plate with a (keyhole) cutout of the top side of the FLX-24 pixel. Note that the top side of

the FLX-24 pixel has a lid which can be used to orient all pixels equally. The drawing below shows the cutout dimensions (inmm) required for the top side of the FLX-24 pixel.

2. The second solution is using a support plate with one or two raised edges for the FLX-24 pixel socket. Note that the bottomside of the FLX-24 pixel socket has two straight edges (in parallel) which can be used to align the pixel socket. The center ofthe bottom side of the FLX-24 pixel socket is provided with a M3 mounting hole. The maximum depth of this mounting hole is6mm. The drawing below shows the dimensions (in mm) required for the bottom side of the FLX-24 pixel socket.

The metal plate where the pixel or pixel socket is mounted on, should be 1,5 mm thick. It is recommended to brush the support gridwith grain 120 to smooth away all burns.

CAUTION: Make sure when making your own support grid for the FLX-24 pixel that the support grid is pro-vided with the necessary attachment points to fasten the support grid.

2.2 Electrical requirements

Electrical requirements for the FLX-24 pixelThe power for the FLX-24 pixels is delivered by the FLX Power rectifiers DPR-2700 installed in the FLX Power Chassis DPR-2700.One FLX Power chassis DPR-2700, fully equipped with six rectifiers each delivering 2700 watt, consumes maximum 16200 watt.For that one FLX Power System DPR-2700 requires a nominal three phase AC input of 230V (delta connection) or 400V (starconnection), 50-60Hz.

The power cord to connect the FLX Power chassis DPR-2700 with the power net is not delivered with the FLX Power SystemDPR-2700. The customer must provide the correct type of power cord. The cross-sectional area of the conductors in the powersupply cord shall not be less than 6 mm² or 8 AWG for 400V star connection (L1/L2/L3/N/PE) or 10 mm² or 6 AWG for 230V deltaconnection (L1/L2/L3/PE). For more information see the installation manual included in the box of the FLX Power System DPR-2700.

All AC connections must be made per the latest issue of the National Electrical Code and must also conform to all local codes. TheAC supply must be installed by a qualified electrician in conformance to local codes. Hardware, wire sizes and conduit types mustcomply with local codes. To protect operating personnel, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) recommendsthat the cabinet be grounded. In no event shall the FLX Power System DPR-2700 be operated without an adequate cabinet groundconnection. An AC breaker must provide adequate isolation between the FLX Power chassis DPR-2700 input and Commercial ACMain.

The power consumption of the FLX-NNI Controller and the DX-100/DX-700 Digitizer is negligible compared to the power consump-tion of the FLX Power System DPR-2700. One FLX-NNI Controller consumes maximum 0,5 amps at 230VAC, 50Hz (100-240VAC;1-0,5A; 50-60Hz). One DX-100/DX-700 Digitizer consumes maximum 0,5 amps at 230VAC, 50Hz. Standard power cords (CEE orNEMA plug) are delivered with the FLX-NNI Controller and the DX-700 Digitizer.

The FLX system allows a physical split up of the control center, where the DX-100/DX-700 Digitizer and FLX-NNI Controller unitsare located, and the power center, where the FLX Power System DPR-2700 is located. This way the length of the power cables canbe shorten to reduce the loss of voltage over the power cables. Futhermore, the heat dissipation and the noise generation of therectifiers can be isolated and managed in a suitable area.

3.2 FLX-24 PixelIntroductionThe FLX-24 pixel is a compact, high quality LED pixel module that can be combined with a wide variety of specifically designedcarriers (mechanical structures) into any shape you desire. The FLX-24 pixel has a 24 mm diameter and one full-color LED. Thehousing of the FLX-24 pixel has an IP66 rating.

CAUTION: Prevent at all times that dust or dirt sticks to the O-ring of the FLX-24 pixel socket. In case theO-ring is damaged or contaminated with dust and/or dirt the IP66 rating can no longer be guaranteed. Notethat Teflon spray is applied to the O-ring to ensure a good sealing without risk of degeneration of the O-ring.

Do not let an FLX-24 pixel socket unused. Always install an FLX-24 pixel upon each socket in the pixel string.Keep the FLX-24 pixel upon the socket for storing.

ConnectivityThe FLX-24 Pixel can be plugged into a molded FLX-24 socket on a cable or into a FLX-24 socket witch is mounted on a strip (PCBboard). Barco offers two standard connector strings and two standard strips:

The connector string and strips can be used together in the same FLX-24 pixel string. The plugs of the connector strings and stripsare from the bayonet mount locking mechanism. Up to 256 FLX-24 pixels can be connected in one string. Each FLX-24 pixel stringmust be connected via an FLX-24 converter cable (R9899553B8: 8 pieces) with one of the output ports of the FLX-HUB.

CAUTION: The last unused output plug in the connector string must be sealed with a protection cap to meetthe IP65 rating of the system.

AccessoriesUp to 5 meter of FLX-24 data extension cables can be used between two FLX-24 pixels. Barco offers two lengths of FLX-24 exten-sion cables:

• FLX-24 data extension cable of 2 meter.• FLX-24 data extension cable of 5 meter.

Barco offers also a FLX-24 Dummy plug (bridge connector) to cover unused FLX-24 sockets and to bridge the signals to the nextFLX-24 pixel in the string.

3.3 FLX-NNI ControllerIntroduction FLX-NNI ControllerThe housing of the FLX-NNI Controller has a width of 19” (480mm) and a height of 5,25” (133mm) which is the equivalent of 3 rackunits U (1U = 1,75” = 44,45mm). These dimensions makes the FLX-NNI Controller suitable to build in a standard 19” rack. Therear side of the FLX-NNI Controller is equipped with a power input socket (type C14) on which the required input voltage of 100-240VAC; 1-0,5A; 50-60 Hz (0,5 amps at 230VAC) is applied to. The FLX-NNI Controller is not designed for outdoor use and thus mustinstalled indoor.

The front side of the FLX-NNI Controller consist in an ON/OFF switch, an LCD display, a navigation button, one data input socket,two data output sockets, and eight data output ports (type RJ45). With the LCD display and navigation button you can retrieve/mod-ify several settings/values of the FLX-NNI Controller and of the connected FLX-HUB units. The data input socket (IN) has to beconnected with the output port of the DX-700 Digitizer or with one of the two data output sockets (TRU) of the previous FLX-NNIController. Each data output port can be connected to one FLX-HUB. The data output ports are numbered from 1 to 8, left to rightand top to bottom.

The FLX-NNI Controller can only be used with the new generation of DX digitizers like the DX-100 and DX-700 Digitizer. The re-syncunit detects the data stream applied to the data input socket. The controller extracts its required data from the incoming data stream.The extracted content if further processed and sent via the eight data output ports to the FLX-HUB units. Furthermore, the re-syncunit reinforces the incoming data stream and redirects the stream to the data output ports (TRU).

The standard data cable used between the FLX-NNI Controller units are of the straight type (not crossed). Because of this thedata input port is designed as “slave” port and the two data output ports are designed as “master” ports. The differences betweenthe “slave” and “master” ports is that the receiving and transmitting pins are switched. A data connection between two FLX-NNIController units must always be made between a “master” port and a “slave” port. Nevertheless, the data stream is bidirectional. Itis also important to know that the digitizer output is of the “master” type.

CAUTION: Barco uses HDMI connectors and cables, which allows a higher bandwidth for data communicationbetween the FLX-NNI Controller units and DX-700 Digitizer. Nevertheless, Barco does not use the standardHDMI protocol but their own communication protocol NNI (New Netebuk Interface). As a result the pin config-uration of the HDMI connector is different as well. Because of this never connect a device, having standardHDMI input or output ports such as an LCD display or a DVD player, with an FLX-NNI Controller unit or a DX-700Digitizer. Such a connection could be harmful for both Barco devices as for the standard HDMI devices.

Barco offers three lengths of NNI cables (HDMI plugs with latches) to connect the FLX-NNI Controller units with each other. Thedifferent lengths are 1 meter, 5 meter and 10 meter. Note that one NNI cable of 1 meter is delivered with the FLX-NNI Controller.

To connect the output ports of the FLX-NNI Controller with the FLX-HUB units Barco offers FLX-data cables with RJ45 plugs whichare equipped with IP66 protection shells. The FLX-data cables are not included because the length of these cables vary fromapplication to application. There are three lengths available: 20 meter, 50 meter and 100 meter.

Futhermore, Barco offers also an IP66 upgrade kit for the RJ45 plugs of a standard network cable. The standard network cablesused must be of the Cat 5 - STP type. Note that the maximum allowed distance between FLX-NNI Controller and FLX-HUB is 100meter. Only the RJ45 plug at the side of the FLX-HUB requires IP66 protection shells.

This is de root menu of the FLX-NNI Controller. At startup andduring normal operation this menu is displayed. The left sideshows the path of the menu which is “BARCO FLX” for the rootmenu.

The right column shows a list with sub menu items. The itemmarked with a triangle ► is the selected item. Use the navigationbuttons to select another item or to enter one. The last item in thelist is ’Back’ which can be used to go to the previous menu.

The root menu automatically returns after 30 seconds of no actionon the navigation buttons. Except for the menus ’Patterns’, ’Info’and ’Link Errors’ which remain until the ’Back’ action is selected.

The second lineto the second output and so on up to eight.

TIP: It may be helpful to count the errors over a very long periodof time in case errors occur exceptional. The menu doesn’tdisappear after a given time. If after a long period the errorcounter is still zero, you can conclude that this path is OK.

The ’Restore settings’ is a very useful option to get back all thesettings of the FLX-NNI Controller in case of a replacement. Theresult is an image on the screen which is exactly the same asbefore. In other words, no ’Init replaced’ or ’Re-detection’ with theDirector toolset has to be done.

The option ’Restore settings’ is possible because the FLX-NNI Controller sends every 5 minutes all settingsof the FLX-NNI Controller to the flash memory of all connected FLX-HUB units. This way, a backup is made ofthe FLX-NNI Controller settings (Address, Board serial, Ctrl serial, Gamma, Contrast, etc. Excluding the pixelstring configuration map).

A backup is made of the ’pixel string configuration map’ during the upload of the design in the FLX-NNI Con-troller with the Director toolset. This backup is stored in the flash memory of the first detected FLX-HUB. So,only one of the connected FLX-HUB units contains the backup of the pixel string configuration map. Thismeans that you have to select this FLX-HUB which contains the backup of the map to restore all the informa-tion (map + settings). Otherwise, only the FLX-NNI Controller settings will be restored.

The ’Restore settings’ option has to be activated within 5 minutes after the power is switched on of the newFLX-NNI Controller. Otherwise, the new FLX-NNI Controller will overwrite the stored settings on all connectedFLX-HUB units with its settings. This will make the pixel string configuration map unavailable for restoring.

3.5 FLX-HUBIntroductionThe FLX-HUB is the interface between the FLX-24 pixel strings, the FLX-NNI Controller and the DPR-2700 power system. Powerfrom the DPR-2700 power system and data from the FLX-NNI Controller are brought together on the FLX-HUB for further distributionto the FLX-24 pixel strings.

The robust housing of the FLX-HUB has an IP66 protection rating which makes the FLX-HUB suitable for outdoor installations. TheFLX-HUB has one data input port (RJ45 socket), eight power/data output ports (one port per pixel string) and one multi pole powerinput socket. Eight power circuits, one power circuit per output port, enter the FLX-HUB via this multi pole power input socket. Thepower/data output ports are numbered and equipped with a protection cap. The data input port and the power/data output portshave a diagnostic LED for fast troubleshooting.

The FLX-HUB has an internal test pattern generator which can be activated via the user interface of the FLX-NNI Controller or viathe Director toolset. The Director toolset can be used to updated the software and firmware of the FLX-HUB as well.

Interesting to know is that all the FLX-HUB units contains a backup of the settings (address, gamma curve, board serial number, etc.)of the connected FLX-NNI Controller unit. Only the first detected FLX-HUB (first used output of the FLX-NNI Controller) contains thepixel string configuration map of the connected FLX-NNI Controller unit. Take this into account when replacing one of the FLX-HUBunits. Use the Director toolset to send a new ’backup’ of the pixels string configuration map to the replaced components.

CAUTION: A pixel string of maximum 256 FLX-24 pixels may be connected to one power/data output port ofthe FLX-HUB.

3.6 FLX power system DPR-2700

IntroductionThe FLX Power System DPR-2700 consists of a chassis with two DC distribution shelves of three modular FLX Power RectifierDPR-2700 units and a Control and Supervisory Unit (CSU). The FLX Power System DPR-2700 requires a nominal three phase ACinput of 230V (delta connection) or 400V (star connection), 50-60Hz.

The rear side of the power chassis has two power output ports (multi pole sockets) which provide in 16 (2 x 8) protected circuits witha DC output of -54V.

One power output port of the FLX Power System DPR-2700 can power maximum 8192 FLX-24 pixels. The FLX Power SystemDPR-2700 has two power output ports, so one FLX Power System DPR-2700 can power maximum 16384 FLX-24 pixels. This largenumber of pixels can only be powered in case the total length of the power cables, from the power output port to the last FLX-24 pixelin the connector string, is limited. Otherwise, the voltage drop over the power cables will be too high and because of this disablingthe last FLX-24 pixels in the string.

FLX Power Rectifier DPR-2700The FLX Power System DPR-2700 contains 6 removable (not hot swappable) FLX Power Rectifier DPR-2700 units. One rectifiercan deliver 2700 Watt (50 ampere DC). In case a rectifier fails, the other rectifiers remain delivering there maximum power. Forvideo applications with typical video content the FLX Power System DPR-2700 will run at average 30-40% of its maximum. So, incase a rectifier fails it will probably not be visible during the event. The malfunction rectifier can be replaced after the event.

For critical lighting installations (100% brightness) where no interruption of the event can be afford, it is rec-ommended to reduce the maximum number of FLX-24 pixels per FLX Power System DPR-2700 (80%). So, incase a rectifier fails, the remaining power is sufficient to power the connected FLX system for 100%. Other-wise, it could be that the last pixels in the strings are underpowered which will be noticeable in the displayedcontent.

For monitoring and diagnostics of the FLX Power System DPR-2700 consult the operation manual of the FLXPower System DPR-2700.

Power cables and power splitter cablesBarco offers two lengths of FLX power cables, 5 and 25 meter. Only these power cables and the custom made power cables, whichmeets the requirements as described below, may be used to connect the FLX-HUB with the FLX Power System DPR-2700 (or otherBarco approved power system for FLX).

Barco offers also an FLX power splitter cable which has four output plugs. The normally eight protected circuits per output plug aresplit-up into two protected circuits per output plug. This means that more FLX-HUB units can be connected to the same FLX PowerSystem DPR-2700. However, take into account that maximum 8192 FLX-24 pixels per power output port of the FLX Power SystemDPR-2700 are allowed. With other words, maximum 256 pixels per protected circuit.

Custom made FLX power cableSome FLX applications (especially fixed installs) requires a custom made FLX Power Cable. Therefor, Barco offers the male andfemale multi pole power plugs in separated kits. So, the customer can make his own FLX Power Cable with the length he needs(maximum 50 meter).

3.7 DX-700 Digitizer

GeneralThe DX-700 is a multi-window video processor designed for use as a versatile front-end to all Barco LED products. The digitizerprocesses (image processing, conversion and conditioning) all source signals for digital distribution to every tile.

• Existing (legacy) LED products such as MiPIX, DLite, ILite and OLite are supported via the 32-bit DVI link on the system’s DVIOutput Module.

• Next generation LED products such as the NX-4 tiles are supported via the NNI interface on the system’s NNI Output Module.

Image processing and LED wall configuration and control functions are adjusted from Barco’s Director toolset, or via controls on theDX-700 Digitizer front panel itself. The Director toolset software is designed as a user interface to be used in conjunction with thedigitizer and display. 4. Installation procedures

4.1 Set up process of an FLX display

Set up process:1. The first stage in the process is creating in the project in the Director toolset on the basis of a sketch of the creative concept which

you want to realize. A project exist in one or more configurations and each configuration exist in one or more designs of FLX-NNIController units. The designs can be the same or different from each other. Consult the user guide of the Director toolset formore detailed information on how to define a new project.

2. Install the FLX-24 pixels according your creative concept and realize the cabling of the FLX-24 pixels. Note that Barco offersseveral FLX carriers. See installation manual of the used carrier for detailed installation instructions of the FLX-24 pixels. Donot forget to place a protection cap on the last unused plug in the pixel string.In case the standard FLX-24 connector strings does not match with the concept of your creative design, contact Barco for moreinfo about customized FLX-24 connector strings with the pitch that meet your requirements.

3. Install the FLX-HUB units and connect these with the FLX-24 pixel strings. Each output port of the FLX-HUB must be connectedwith an FLX-24 converter cable. The FLX-24 connector string is connected with the output plug of the converter cable. TheFLX-HUB units can be installed in a 19” rack or on stage. See chapters "Mounting the 19” rack bracket on the FLX-HUB", page50 and "Mounting the rental bracket on the FLX-HUB", page 47. Up to 20 meter FLX-HUB output extension cables can be usedto connect the pixel strings with the input ports of the FLX-HUB units. See chapter "FLX-HUB", page 30.

4. Install the FLX-NNI Controller units and connect the data output ports with the data input ports of the FLX-HUB units. Note thatthe maximum allowed length of data cable is 100 meter.When using standard UTP cat 6 network cables, make sure that the RJ45 plugs of the network cables are provided with IP66protection shells. See chapter "Installing the RJ45 IP66 protection shells", page 51.

5. Connect the data IN and TRU ports of the FLX-NNI Controller units with each other. The maximum allowed length is 10 meter.6. Provide each FLX-NNI Controller unit with power.7. Install the DX-700 Digitizer, apply a source and connect the data output port of the digitizer with the input port of the first FLX-NNI

Controller unit in the system. See installation manual of the DX-700 Digitizer for detailed installation instructions.8. Install the FLX Power System DPR-2700 units and connect the power output sockets with the FLX-HUB units. Maximum 50

meter power cable is allowed. Take into account that one FLX Power System DPR-2700 unit can power maximum 16384FLX-24 pixels. Use a power splitter cable to split the power output in to four outputs. See chapter "FLX power system DPR-2700", page 34.Connect all FLX Power System DPR-2700 units with the power net. Make sure that the power net meets the requirements asstated in the chapter "Electrical requirements", page 11.

9. The FLX system is ready now. Switch on all FLX Power System DPR-2700 units, all FLX-NNI Controller units and the DX-700Digitizer. See user guide of the Director toolset for further actions.

4.3 Mounting the FLX-24 pixel in its socket

How to mount the FLX-24 pixel in its socket?1. Check if the socket is provided with an O-ring (red rubber ring).Note: “Interflon fluor grease 2” is applied to the O-ring at factory for an optimal sealing without risk for “stress cracking”. Only

these types of grease are allowed which do not result in “stress cracking”.

2. Approach the socket with the FLX-24 pixel. Make sure that the three positioning pins (reference 3) of the FLX-24 pixel are alignedwith mounting holes (reference 1) on the socket.Tip: One side of the pixel and the socket is marked with “stripes” (reference 2) and the other side with “dots” (reference 4).

These markings can be used for a quick alignment of the pixel on in the socket.

3. Press the FLX-24 pixel in its socket.

To remove the pixel, just pull it straight out of its socket. Or, place the blade of a screw driver in the spareopening at the bottom of the FLX-24 pixel and wriggle it out of its socket.

CAUTION: Prevent at all times that dust or dirt sticks to the O-ring of the FLX-24 pixel socket. In case theO-ring is damaged or contaminated with dust and/or dirt the IP66 rating can no longer be guaranteed. Notethat Teflon spray is applied to the O-ring to ensure a good sealing without risk of degeneration of the O-ring.

Do not let an FLX-24 pixel socket unused. Always install an FLX-24 pixel upon each socket in the pixel string.Keep the FLX-24 pixel upon the socket for storing.

4.7 Installing the RJ45 IP66 protection shells

The IP66 protection shells can be installed upon the RJ45 plug of standard UTP network cables. The networkcables used between FLX-NNI Controller and FLX-HUB must be of the type UTP cat 6. The maximum lengthmay not exceed 100 meter.

CAUTION: The network cable which has to be plugged into the RJ45 socket of the FLX-HUBmust be equippedwith IP66 protection shells.

How to install the IP66 protection shells on a standard UTP network cable?1. Align the 7 parts as illustrated.

5.1 Cleaning the FLX-24 pixel

CAUTION: Do not use industrial grease removers. Use only materials or chemicals that are inert, nonabrasive,noncorrosive and non marking.

CAUTION: Do not use a hard bristled brush.

Necessary tools• Soft brush.• Clean cloth.• FLX-24 connector string.

How to clean the FLX-24 pixel?1. Plug the FLX-24 pixel(s) on the connector string to seal off the power/data socket of the pixel. This is necessary to protect theelectronic parts inside the unit.

2. Clean the outside of the FLX-24 pixel with a soft brush and some water.Caution: Do not submerge the FLX-24 pixel(s) into water or other liquids.

3. Wipe dry the FLX-24 pixel(s) using a clean cloth.

Always clean all FLX-24 pixels of the system to avoid brightness differences between cleaned and uncleanedFLX-24 pixels.

3. Clean the outside of the FLX-HUB with a soft brush and some water.Caution: Do not submerge the FLX-HUB into water or other liquids.

4. Wipe dry the FLX-HUB using a clean cloth.

5. Disconnect the FLX power cable and the FLX data cable from the FLX-HUB.

5. Maintenance

5.3 Replacing the FLX-NNI Controller

What has to be done?The FLX-NNI Controller has to be replaced and the settings of the original FLX-NNI Controller have to be ’restored’ into the newFLX-NNI Controller. The result is an image on the screen which is exactly the same as before. In other words, no ’Init replaced’ or’Re-detection’ with the Director toolset has to be done.

The option ’Restore settings’ is possible because the FLX-NNI Controller sends every 5 minutes all settingsof the FLX-NNI Controller to the flash memory of all connected FLX-HUB units. This way, a backup is made ofthe FLX-NNI Controller settings (Address, Board serial, Ctrl serial, Gamma, Contrast, etc. Excluding the pixelstring configuration map).

A backup is made of the ’pixel string configuration map’ during the upload of the design in the FLX-NNI Con-troller with the Director toolset. This backup is stored in the flash memory of the first detected FLX-HUB. So,only one of the connected FLX-HUB units contains the backup of the pixel string configuration map. Thismeans that you have to select this FLX-HUB which contains the backup of the map to restore all the informa-tion (map + settings). Otherwise, only the FLX-NNI Controller settings will be restored.

The ’Restore settings’ option has to be activated within 5 minutes after the power is switched on of the newFLX-NNI Controller. Otherwise, the new FLX-NNI Controller will overwrite the stored settings on all connectedFLX-HUB units with its settings. This will make the pixel string configuration map unavailable for restoring.

How to replace the FLX-NNI Controller?1. Switch off the power of the FLX-NNI Controller which you want to replace.

2. Disconnect all network cables from the data output ports (RJ45) of the FLX-NNI Controller.Tip: Mark the network cables, prior to disconnecting, from 1 to 8 according the data output ports.

3. Disconnect the data cables from the data IN and TRU ports of the FLX-NNI Controller.

4. Disconnect the power cable from the power input socket at the rear of the FLX-NNI Controller.

5. Replace the FLX-NNI Controller and reconnect the power cable. Do not switch on!

6. Reconnect the data cables with the data IN and TRU ports of the FLX-NNI Controller.

7. Reconnect all network cables with the data output ports (RJ45) of the FLX-NNI Controller.

8. Switch on the power of the FLX-NNI Controller and start the ’Restore settings’ procedure within 5 minutes. Do this by brows-ing in the user interface of the FLX-NNI Controller to BARCO FLX ► This controller ► Restore settings and then start theprocedure by selecting the option ► Restore now.Note: By default the FLX-HUB is selected which contains the backup of the pixel string configuration map as well. Do not select

another FLX-HUB.

As a result the settings and map are retrieved from the connected FLX-HUB.
