POSITIVITY BOOSTER

Ms Ayushi Rai in conversation with Dr. Anuradha Parasar, Dean, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Fine Arts, Media & Journalism, Dean Faculty of Liberal Arts.

In her first interview as Dean of MIT WPU Faculty of Law, Dr. Anuradha Parasar, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Fine Arts, Media & Journalism, Dean Faculty of Liberal

Arts shares her thoughts on the challenges of these times, the limitless possibilities that have arisen today due to the technological advancement and instilling in us a different point of view towards these difficult times and the Pandemic. In her words, we must “EMBRACE TECHNOLOGY”

Ayushi Rai: Ma’am, we’re having this conversation almost 6 months after you joined us as the Dean of MIT WPU Faculty of Law. How is your transition going so far?

Anuradha Parasar: There is not much transition as such as I have been a part of MIT WPU family and have known the whereabouts of Faculty of Law, it was just the responsibility that I had to take on and talking about the transition, it has been smooth, all credits to the faculty and especially the loving students, who have been very supportive.

Ayushi Rai: Between the times you have joined the school of law, the pandemic had an enormous impact on the whole world, and so, how has it impacted your role as a Dean in a new department, given everything being virtual?

Anuradha Parasar: This pandemic actually I must say that, it has helped us and empowered us, maybe some people may have a different take on this pandemic but I believe that this pandemic has empowered us technologically, we can do multiple things at one point of time which is not at all possible in a physical world. In fact, just before this interview with you Ayushi I was in another meeting and I didn’t have to move from one place to another to join this meeting, it’s all saving so much of our time. All credits to this pandemic, even in your summer vacation alongside your internships, students could attend different competitions, Spectrum, Samvaads etc., And one of the main reason I could adjust so well was because I was Director of Distance Directorate and one day before the lockdown was to come into effect, I had organized a workshop for all my faculty members, how to take lectures in the virtual setting. So, I think with the help of the University and the IT infrastructure we are empowered and we are definitely more productive and moving forward without any obstacle.

Ayushi Rai: Being the Dean of such huge and different departments is no easy task, and ma’am you’ve carried on this responsibility with so much perfection, be it attending any event or interacting with the students, it must become tiring at some point of time. So, how do you keep your calm amongst all this and what is your ‘secret mantra’ for managing it all so well?

Anuradha Parasar: Frankly speaking, it’s a very challenging task as Faculty of Liberal Arts is totally different from Faculty of Fine Arts or Media and Journalism and Law, that is totally a different ball game, so the effort is to make them sit together, work together and achieve the targets. It is absolutely not easy but I could handle it and manage it because of the “Care Approach” and making them understand the importance of “Team Working” and as the understanding has percolated down the team work is not just within the schools but it now across FLFMJ and Law. Another thing is the “Attention”, that I especially take care, is given to all schools equally because even if there are conflicts, it becomes manageable.

Ayushi Rai: You’ve been one of the founding stone for NLU Jodhpur, and now you are associated again with a law school, so, I’m curious about your

philosophy on how to lead an organization with so many different stakeholders

— students, faculty, alumni, staff ?

Anuradha Parasar: My association with NLU Jodhpur was for 7 years, that too the

foundation years. It is really difficult as you have to build everything brick by brick and I have been fortunate enough to work with institutions like NLU, NIT in their foundation years and here also at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Liberal Arts, Media and Journalism, they all started their growth in my presence. It is just the “Communication” that helps with the student, parents and faculty members and also at the same time “Transparency”, “Open Discussions” and most importantly “Quick and Appropriate Decision Making” so as to mitigate any issue that might arise if proper decision not made at the right time, like we recently changed your assessment pattern, students even though went in a panic mode but now as we see the result of the recent trimester, they have delivered these assignments so well in such creative forms and we are planning to introduce an independent study program that will help the students up their game and deliver better. Also, “Feedback” plays an important role; I take feedback from my faculty and encourage my faculty to take feedback from the students and taking timely and immediate action.

Ayushi Rai: Ma’am, as you are speaking in the upcoming II International Conference on Applied Psychology and Business Management organized by International Association for technology, Education and Language Studies and also you will be giving the keynote address, how will you tailor your presentation to fit this particular audience?

Anuradha Parasar: Simple answer to that is “Research” and then your experience helps you to talk on many aspects. I have a background of Sociology which has some connection to Psychology because when I say Psychology it’s individual mindset whereas Sociology is group mindset and both these mindsets does not usually differ much, so it is not that difficult to address that audience. Also, I take up such kind of risky affairs that is

“Multi-disciplinary knowledge” that I acquire as part of my student life as still today I consider myself as a student and I try to keep learning be it science, anthropology, sociology and especially psychology as it is a very important part of Law as well because we need to know the mindset of the judge and our clients. As far as this conference goes, I consider this one a great learning experience and I am looking forward to it.

Ayushi Rai: Lastly ma’am, all of us especially all the female students here at FLFMJ and Law are so much inspired by you as you are on a position that has been stereotypically a male dominated sector, so what is your take on being a female leader in today’s world ?

Anuradha Parasar: First of all, I would like to thank you for making me your inspiration, but for me you all are the inspiration and motivation to keep on working. Of course, the stereotype still remains but probably I have crossed that distinction because it is mostly not in my mind while working with my staff or faculty, of course I try to help if a situation is where a female needs me but I have not paid much heed to this distinction of male and female. Looking at the society at large, I think to some point that shackle of discrimination has been broken and I would like to give all the credits to the technology, why, because, taking a look at our primitive society and the development of it till now at one point or another physical strength was needed to take out daily chores which created some limitations but with the advent of technology, one could operate their phones and laptops from anywhere and everybody have access to everything which makes a woman stand on an equal footing intellectually as that of a man. Today, what holds importance is the intellectual strength and not the physical strength which makes the females very much competent to perform any task. No doubt, the stereotype remains at the top management positions but I am sure that glass ceiling will be broken. In my case, I have accepted these challenges and have decided to move forward overcoming challenges

Title: Gender Inequality and constitutional rights of women to fight it

In India discrimination against women are often said to be at peak, even with the status of a developing country that it’s acquiring with leaps and bonds. Within the words of Manu, an ancient interpreter of Hindu law: “Women are alleged to be within the custody of father once they are children, they need to be under the custody of their husbands once married and under the custody of her son in adulthood or as widows. In no circumstances she should be allowed to mention herself independently.

Internships SCHOOL SAMVAAD

The Faculty of Law in collaboration with FLFMJ (Faculty of Liberal Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, Media & Journalism) at MIT WPU have conducted several

School Samvaadsessions in the months of May and June 2021 on the topic ‘Future Prospects in Law, Liberal Studies, Fine Arts, Media and Journalism’. The sessions have been conducted by Faculty and Student co-ordinators. These unique collaborative sessions provide an insight to the students about what these fields are and how one can pursue a career in them.

The sessions have been conducted successfully under the able guidance of Prof. Anuradha Parasar – Dean of Faculty of Law, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Performing Arts, and Faculty of Fine Arts, Media & Journalism.

Dr. Pournima Inamdar, the Head of School at Faculty of Law monitors all the sessions for making interesting presentations and Dr. Pronema Bagchi, Faculty Coordinator from Faculty of Law initiates the ‘Samvaad’ by giving attendees a mini virtual tour of the MIT World Peace University, the leaders of the University and discusses briefly the MIT WPU methodology. After this, for some student driven counselling sessions Ms. Vanshika Gupta, Ms. Manavi Sharma and Ms. SankeertanaKavuluru student coordinators from First Year BBA LL.B.(Hons.) from Faculty of Law lead the interaction by striking a meaningful dialogue with the audience.

In addition to this, there are insightful presentations

made by faculty coordinators from other departments who provide some valuable inputs into the various career options available to the students after their12th Boards.

The interactiveSamvaad Sessions enjoy a huge success with the help of the students as well as faculty members.

The participants of the sessions have been benefitting from these fruitful dialogues that help make the right career choices at an early age.

The dedicated “Know more about Faculty of Law”Samvaads hold high importance for MIT WPU because it gives an insight to the students of middle school and high school about what law is, and also makes the students aware about the Faculty of Law at MIT WPU. Despite being a newly emerging law school, the Faculty of Law at MIT WPU is one of the best places to kick start one’s journey in the field of Law. Through these sessions, moderatorsinform the participants about future prospects in law with career opportunities in this profession, a briefintroduction to higher education in law and, the most interesting is the part where the coordinators burst basic myths about Law. The participants also get to know about the intrinsic details like the faculty members, the committees, extra-curricular activities, internships, and all the other curricular and co-curricular events happening at Faculty of Law, MIT WPU.

Internship is an invaluable real-world media industry experience. Each internship position is a different learning experience, but nevertheless, what one

will gain from working is a road map for future career endeavors. Working in the practical world filled with experiences is a fast-paced environmental place. An internship is a task-specific exchange of service for experience between a student and a business. Developing your knowledge of workplace collaboration, business etiquette, and strong communication tactics are among the vital “soft skills” that can only be learned in the internships. In this way, internships in your area of study will build your résumé and teach you instrumental, career-developing qualities. Similarly, MIT- WPU has it’s - Internship and Placement Cell which works on providing internships for the Law School.

The Internship and Placement Committee is completely a student driven committee under the guidance of our Dean, Dr. Anuradha Parasar Ma’am, The Head of School Dr. Pournima Inamdar and the Faculty coordinators Prof. ChayanikaBasu Ma’am and Prof. Sanjana Bharadwaj. In the year 2021, the committee yet again successfully completed the entire drive. The committee guided the way for internship for around, 91 students some of which interned under A listed firms all over India. All the students who opted for internship through college were placed. Over this course of experience, students were mentored, groomed and trained for the same. Internships being the foundation in preparing students for the workforce and providing opportunities after graduation, the college and the committee made thorough practices to achieve the goals aimed.

The law firms and advocates providing with internships in this internship drive to the law students for the academic year 2020-2021 were:

1. Nehru & co2. Jena & Company3. KPC Legal4. Reddy & Reddy5. RVS Legal6. Legal Angles, Patna7. Adv. Varun Mathur8. Adv. Aditya Pratap9. A.A. Associates10. Triyama Legal

With 100% students being placed, the drive was concluded successfully and pertinent work experience was considered as one of the valuable qualities. Thus, internships have become an essential way to help candidates make themselves stand out.

TRIVIA

What better way to get to know your friends and classmates than thorough a friendly competition.Trivia Games just the answer to enhance

socialization opportunities. Playing such games allows the chance to foster conversation and connection.

The Literary and Debate committee of MIT-WPU, Faculty of Law, is an active committee which aims to promote and engage students into numerous activities for academic as well as cultural benefit. The committee works on indulging students in some extra-curricular activities which serves as a platform for them to showcase and enhance their skills. In these irksome situations of the pandemic, where all of us are cooped up at our houses with no modes of entertainment along with learning, the committee focuses on providing a platform for students to engage themselves in entertainment learning activities. Through such platforms different interactive sessions are held, one of which is trivia.

The first Trivia for the academic year 2020-2021 was conducted on 2nd April, 2021and the questions were based on different Institutions of ‘MIT’, namely

“The trivia troupe”

MIT being a tight knit family, this opportunity united all the institutions of MIT and helped the teachers and students to interact with each other by a way of Trivia. This fun-interactive activity connected the institutions and made this event a success by the joy that spread among the teachers and the students. The trivia was followed by valedictory session where the participants, students, teachers could interact with one another after which the results were announced, which altogether summed up the lively session.

Next Trivia was conducted on 12th June, 2021. It was conducted online and the questions were based on the famous American Television series ‘F.R.I.E.N.D.S’. This competition too, was organized on an online platform because of the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, MIT-WPU Faculty of Law believes that irrespective of the circumstances one can always find ways and means to continue to educate themselves and grow intellectually. The event was followed by

valedictory session where the winners were announced. First place was secured by ArvaSadiwala from SY BBA.LLB, second by GitalKatariya and third by Kewal Shah. The valedictory session was as amusing as the event and all the coordinators, participants, fellow students and teachers joined to play the game on Bollywood.

It was concluded with lots of laughter and cheers after which the results were announced which marked the end of an eventful day.

The next event that will be hosted by the Literary and Debate Committee of MIT-WPU Faculty of Law will be the first edition of National Level Trivia. Till date, Faculty of Law has conducted numerous trivia events on a smaller scale. Taking the opportunity under this pandemic, the committee would like to take a higher road and host a national level trivia that would encircle all the sets of events in the year 2020. The title of this Trivia will be Quizvid-19 and as it can be speculated it will be based on ‘Everything that happened in the Year of Catastrophe (2020)’. The trivia will include all the events (categories), i.e., Pop culture, Politics, Vaccine, the deadly virus and its variants, etc. The aim to conduct this trivia on a national level is to create and engage young generation into current affairs and develop a sense of awareness regarding the upcoming future of our country. The target audience would be ‘Under Graduate’ and ‘Post Graduate’ students from different colleges all over India. This platform will be provided to the students to interact and coordinate with the fellow students of different colleges. Are you all ready to get quizzed and celebrate the eventful year of disaster and distress?

We welcome you all to be a part of this event and expect a positive response. The committee under the guidance of Dr. Anuradha Parasar - Dean FLFMJ (Faculty of Law, Dean Faculty of Liberal Arts and Fine Arts and Dean Faculty of Media and Journalism), Dr. Pournima Inamdar

– Head of School, Faculty of Law and Dr. PronemaBagchi– Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law is looking forward in accomplishing the goals and making this event a success.

ENJOY THE MOMENT AASHANSA VARMA (FY BBA LLB(H)

MIT-WPU primarily focuses on academic development and thus, follows a trimester pattern due to which one deals with assignments and

projects throughout the year. Although these assignments, articles and research papers are a part and parcel of our curriculum, sometimes we are so caught up and strained that short breaks seem to be much needed. These celebrations become an opportunity for all of us to enjoy and simultaneously learn regarding the same.

These events gives us a chance to connect with people and induce a sense of belongingness as it’s easy to feel distraught and lonely these days, courtesies to the pandemic. So,to make this dreadful time a little bit of a happy one, all the committees have taken up the responsibility to celebrate and communicate with each other as much possible.

SUCH CELEBRATIONS WERE HELD ON

Constitution day : 26th November

Constitution day is important to us because being law students, it is crucial to know about the provisions of law and where do these laws come from!

The event was interactive and informative and included videos that briefed about the Constitution of India and Preamble and a few riddles to make the session livelier. In a short span, a detailed orientation took place which helped us to gain knowledge and understand the relevance of the Role of Constitution in our country.

Human Rights Day : 10th December

Every individual possesses certain rights as a human being which are known as Human Rights and so, it is necessary to be aware of rights bestowed upon us to avoid violation of personal liberty, fraternity or equality.

The session was enjoyable as it had an amalgamation of speeches, poems and skits which garnered all the attention from the participants. The problem was highlighted in such a befitting manner that it made people realize the importance of human rights and the relevance it holds in the world.

World Consumer rights day : 15th March

‘Consumer’ plays a vital role in an economic system as each household is a consumer of some or other product. We cannot produce every necessity by ourselves for personal use, thus, a consumer is a part of the loop to attain any product/service we desire.

The event was really entertaining and interesting, as they explicitly discussed consumer rights, responsibilities and importance. It was followed by a short film and quiz which was filled with laughter and cheers.

International Yoga Day Celebration : 21st June

It is really important that one is healthy mentally and physically. In these tough situations when people are cooped up in their houses, it’s really a struggle to focus on your health as there is a lack of physical exercise.

This event helped all of us to learn the methods to stay fit and focus on inner peace. It was really helpful as it made us realize the importance of our health and how crucial it is to stay healthy and fit.

International Mother Language Day (21/02)

The love for one’s mother language should always be on the highest possible level. The event had fun games which helped one to fall in love and bond themselves with their mother language.

This was an opportunity for all of us to rejoice and be proud of all the spoken languages/ mother languages of our country.

World Environment Day (08/06)

Environment is the reason for human’s existence. Without a healthy and safe environment human sustenance is not possible. This event highlighted the deteriorating conditions of our environment and how we must protect it before it destroys us (Human Existence).

The event was a success as we all gained so much information and were ready to put in efforts to save earth by having a clean and healthy environment.

Vasant Panchami Celebration

This event was celebrated by the faculty members of the FLFMJ family. Vasant Panchami, also called Sarasvati Puja in honor of the goddess Saraswati, is the festival wherepeople (mostly students) worship goddess Saraswati, who is considered the goddess of knowledge, art and music on the day.

As knowledge is what we seek, thus, this was an event to respect the source of ‘Vidya’ and be blessed to receive imparting knowledge.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

Faculty are the lifeblood of any institution. They are directly responsible for delivering the top-of-the-line knowledge and training its students. It’s their passion,

hard work and authentic interactions that help uphold the reputation of the institution.

These scholars are some of the best minds in their respective fields. But with technology and learning experiences evolving each year, it’s unreasonable to expect them to keep abreast of all of the latest trends and teaching strategies without the proper preparation. In order to empower them to provide the best education for students, you need to invest in the best training for them.

For that purposes, MIT WPU organizes interactive and educational Faculty Development Programs (FDP). So far three FDP’s have been conducted which were graced by Dr. V. P. Tiwari, Assistant Professor of Law at Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur, MNLU, Prof. N. L. Mitra, Chancellor of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology

and Dr. Manoj Kumar Singh, Associate Professor National Law University, Jodhpur, NLUJ.

These sessions majorly focused on the development of the teaching learning methodology which entails the following : Oxford/Tutorial Method, Lecture Method, Dialectic Method, Epistemic Method, Adversarial Method/Clinical Method and Experimental/Apprenticeship Method. Also, Faculties gained insights on how can we improve placements and most importantly the discussions addressed the question on, “How to overcome the challenges of online teaching”

These FDPs are the result of the practice MIT WPU believes in i.e., Prioritizing faculty training and development is a win-win scenario. When faculty teaches more effectively, students perform better in the classroom and when students excel, institutions thrive.
