Lesson Plan (01)

Name of School : SMA 1 Denpasar

Lecture : Mathematics

Class : X.1

Time Allocation : 40 Minutes

A. Standard Competency : 1. Solve problem that occasion with exponent form, surd

and logarithm.

B. Basic Competency : 1.1. Using the rule of exponent, surd, and logarithm

C. Indicators :

1. Simplifying an exponent

2. Transforming negative integer power form of an exponent to be positive integer

power form, vice versa.

3. Transforming a number to scientific notation, vice versa.

D. Subject Aims :

1. Students can simplify a numbers in an exponent forms

2. Student can transforming numbers from a negative integer power form into positive

integer power forms, vice versa.

3. Students can transforming a numbers into scientific notations

E. Characteristic Values that must be appeared :

Curiosity, Self Learning, Creativity, Hard work, Discipline and Self Confidence

F. Lesson’s Subject :

EXPONENT

an=a×a×a× …×a

n factors

where

an = called exponent with positive integer power or a to the power of n

a = called base a∈R

n = called the power of exponent

Example:

a. 52 = 5 x 5 = 25

b. 43 = 4 x 4 x 4 = 4

c. (-2)4 = (-2) x (-2) x (-2) x (-2) = 16

d. (-3)3 = (-3) x (-3) x (-3) = -27

PROPERTIES OF EXPONENTS WITH POSITIVE INTEGER POWER, NEGATIVE

INTEGER AND ZERO EXPONENTS

Let a ,b∈R and a≠ 0 , b≠ 0 ,m,n∈R then the following hold:

1. am× an=am+n

2. am: an¿ am−n

3. (am )n ¿amn

4. (a×b )n=an×an

5. ( ab )

n

=an

bn , b≠ 0

6. a0=1

7. an :an=1

8. a−n= 1an

9. am: an= 1an−m

10. a1n=n√a and a

mn=n√am

SCIENTIFIC NOTATIONS

Scientific notation is used to simplify writing very large or very small numbers.

a×10n ,w here 1≤ a≤10and n∈Z

The form of a×10n is called the standard form or scientific notation.

Every decimal numbers can be converting to that form. Converting a decimals

number to its scientific notations means to move the decimal point to the left or to

the right such that the point has one digit to the left of the decimals point and

multiply by the corresponding power of 10.

Example:

Write the following number in scientific notation

a. 0.036

b. 3674

Solution :

a. 0.036. Here we want to move the decimal point two places to the right to get

0.036 to be 3.6. to do this we multiply by 102 x 10-2 (which is 1). Thus

0.036 = (0.036 x 102) x 10-2 = 3.6 x 10-2

b. 3674. Here we want to move the decimal point three places to the left to get

3674 to be 3.674. to do this, we multiply by 10-3 x 103 (which is 1). Thus,

3674 = (3674 x 10-3) x 103 = 3.674 x 10-3

G. Teaching Metodology: Lectures, Frequently ask question.

H. Teaching Step

1. Initial Activity (5 minute)

a. Apperception : Review back about some kind of numbers and the type of

writing.

Page 4: Lesson Plan Kuadrat

b. Motivation : If this subject was properly controlled, then the students will

be able to solve problem that related with positive integer

power, negative integer and zero exponent, also helped in

simplifying write numbers with scientific notations

2. Middle Activity (30 minute)

a. Exploration :

- The students are given a stimulus form of subject by teacher (beside that for

example in worksheets, the task of finding subject from textbooks or

supporting books, from internet or related with environment subject, or giving

examples of the subject for able to be increased by the students, from

interactive media, etc) about the way to simplify a numbers in an exponent

forms, transforming numbers from a negative power form into positive power

forms, vice versa, also to transforming a numbers into scientific notations,

vice versa, thus between students and teacher make discussion about those

subject.

- Students orally communicate or presenting the properties of exponent with

positive integers power, the way to simplify an exponent, vice versa,

transforming numbers from a negative power form into positive power forms,

vice versa, also transforming a numbers into scientific notations, and vice

versa.

b. Elaboration :

- Students and teacher are together to discuss an example that given by the

teacher

- Students solve a few problems in the textbook, or another source as individual

task.

- Students and teacher are together to discuss the answer from the task above.

- Students solve an exercise in the textbook or another source as individual

task.

c. Confirmation :

In confirmation’s activity students are:

Conclude about the things that is not yet known

Page 5: Lesson Plan Kuadrat

Explain about the things that is not yet known

3. Final Activity (5 minute)

a. Students create a summary from the subject of exponent, the properties also

scientific notation

b. Students and teacher do some kind of reflection

c. Students given homework from the exercise that didn’t finished yet in the

classroom or from another reference books.
