RiskManagementAgenciesofTyphoonCommitteeMembersDearSir/Madam,TheESCAP/WMOTyphoonCommittee(TC)at its48thSessiondecidedtoconvenethe11th IntegratedWorkshop(11thIWS)in2016.WiththekindofferandbasedonthehostingmechanismforIntegratedWorkshop the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA),the11thIWSwillbeheldinWaterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino,Cebu, Philippines, from 24 to 27 October 2016. Following the consultationswith theAdvisoryWorkingGroup (AWG)and theTCChairs,itwasdecidedtoadopt“Improving Typhoon Impact-based Forecasting and Warning”asthetitleofthe11thIWS. IWSisanannualeventforTCMemberstoreviewTCactivitiesandworkprogressthroughtheAdvisoryWorking Group (AWG) and the three TC Working Groups (WGs) on Meteorology, Hydrology andDisasterRiskReduction(DRR),andtomakework-plansforthecomingyear.AswellthedevelopmentofthenewStrategicPlanfor2017-2021willbediscussedbetweenWGs.Expertspeakerswillbeinvitedtopresentkeynote lectureson the firstdayof the11th IWS.Yourconsiderationofnominatingexpertspeakersforthistopic,andothertopicsundersubthemestobeproposedbytheWorkingGroups,willbemuchappreciated.Listofspeakerswillbeprovidedintheupdatedtentativeprogramme.In this connection, I would like to invite your nomination of AWG members and WG focalpoints/representatives to attend the captioned event. Participants from Members other than AWGmembersareonlyrequiredtoattendtheWorkshopfromDay1toDay4(24–27October)whileAWGmemberswouldalsobeexpectedtoattendapost-eventAWGmeetingon28October.TCwillconsiderproviding fundingsupport through theTyphoonCommitteeTrustFund(TCTF) for theattendanceofparticipants(1participantfromeachMemberateachWorkingGroup)whoareactivelyinvolvedintheworkofAWGandthethreeWGs,coveringpassagestoandfromCebu,Philippines(travellingonmostdirectlyandeconomyclassforairpassages)anddailysubsistenceallowances(DSA)fortheperiodoftheirstayforattendingtheWorkshop.Consideringthefundingconstraints,Membersareencouragedtomakearrangementforownfundingforthenominatedparticipants.Basedontheinformationonthehotel rates provided by ESCAP, the DSA amountwill be fixed atUS$115 per day for the supportedparticipants.Membersmayalsowishtosponsortheattendanceofadditionalparticipantsthroughtheirownfunding.

1. ScheduleofMeetings

The11th IntegratedWorkshopon“ImprovingTyphoonImpact-basedForecastingandWarning”willbeheld inCebu,Philippines, from24 to27October2016. Theofficialopening ceremonywill be held at the Arctic 2, Upper Lower Level,Waterfront CebuCityHotel andCasinoon24October2016at0900. All theplenarymeetingswillbeheld in the same function roomwhile breakout roomswill be located at the LowerLobbyLevelofthesamehotel.AnAdvisoryWorkingGroupMeetingwillbeheldon28October2016from9amto5pm.SubjecttoconfirmationbytheCommittee,thedailyschedule,exceptfortheOpeningCeremony:8:30-12:00-morningsessions14:00–17:00-afternoonsessionsOpeningCeremony:9:00–10:00a.m.OpeningProgram10:00-10:15coffeebreak10:15-Startofthesession

2. RegistrationA registration deskwill be set-up outside the Plenary Room starting at 0800 on 24October 2016. Participants are requested to fill out a registration form and receive theirworkshopidentificationandkitattheregistrationtable.

6. WeatherIn October, temperature in Cebu is 24.8 – 31.4 degrees centigrade, with an averagerainfall of 194.8mmand 16 rainy days. Shirt is appropriate outside the conferenceroombutwearingcoatandjacketarealsorecommendedinsidethefunctionroom.

7. ForeignExchangeThePhilippinePeso(P)isthePhilippinecurrency.
