Some explanation...

➲ I went to Atlanta for 3 weeks with 11 other French people to live like real Americans and give a glimpse of what we lived to the French back in France.

➲ This project is the one that permitted me to go, because it interested the DAREIC.

➲ I led it in America, and in France. However, the samples aren't as big for both cities (72 in America, but only 31 in France, due to a difficult access to the survey (they needed a google account to access it)) and can't represent the exact reality but I think they still speak for themselves and that huge differences are unequivocal.

➲ I don't remember the prices but I do remember Clara's face when she got back from the vending machines and told me water was more expensive than coke itself... not really shocking considered that American people mostly drink sodas.

Who uses straws the most ?

➲ So, we were at the restaurant with my host family and Camille and they served us our drink in a glass. So Camille and I start drinking it as we usually do (meaning : no straw) and our family asks us if we want a straw, and they all already had their own. Because straws are our habbits (and sometimes the glasses aren't really well washed)

➲ I could indeed notice that my host family never recycled. Nothing was organized to help the citizens make an effort for the environment.

➲ In France, it's easier to recycle because some people come get your « sacs jaunes » so many people do it. But I would like to remember you that recycling isn't the first thing we should think about because it uses a lot of energy etc... We should instead think about reuse the thing, or give it, or use it in some other way (for instance use a fork to expose pictures in your house)

➲ Clara made her project about consumption and everyone answered that their favourite fast food restaurant was chick fil a. Also, one of the French teachers that came with us told us that every kid at her school answered that Chick-fil-A was their favourite fast food restaurant when their teacher asked. They don't really like McDonald's.

➲ Always snack ! That's a true thing... I actually had stopped snacking for good for a year and they got me back to snacking because they just always snack. We eat breakfast, we get to school, we snack. We quickly eat lunch, we get back to class, we snack. We get home, we eat, we snack. We get dinner, we go to bed. We wake up, we eat, we snack.

Thanks !

➲ I would like to thank the DAREIC, the Education Department of Georgia and the American embassy in Paris for letting me go. Indeed, such a trip wouldn't have been possible, for financial reasons but also because this experience allowed us to attend classes and live like an American in an American house.

➲ This project also led me to pay more attention to certain details that actually interest me. Indeed, consumption is very much linked to climate change but people often forget about that. In America, they consume way more fast food than us, so it means more and more garbage, and for most they almost never recycle. However, they have a better reuse system than us. For instance, Goodwill is a big organization that permits to buy old clothes still in shape instead of requiring new ones to big commercial. So, it's ecological, economic and it permits to create new jobs so it actually answers all three pillars of sustainable development.
