LO: to make equal groups

Key vocabulary:

Equal: To have the same amount or value.

1. First, count how many pots there are, these are our groups.

There are _____ equal groups of _____ pencils.

Bronze challenge: Jack is trying to

make equal groups of 3. Can you

help him complete this?

Thursday’s Learning

English: Sentence Doctor

Why not make yourself a doctor hat… a grown-ups

white shirt makes a great doctors coat… you could

set up a mini doctors surgery at home.

You could use some material and learn how to make a sling when

you have treated your sentences. Practise on one of your toys or

teddies. You’ll find instructions here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwfBGkBXkFA

Play Sentence Doctor online at: http://sentenceplay.co.uk/SentenceDoctor.

Select ‘How to play’ and

read with a grown up.

Select ‘Problem

Punctuation’ and help

diagnose the poorly

sentences

Ask a grown up to print or copy out the poorly sentences below on to strips of

paper. These are your patients. Line them up outside the door and help one at

a time: diagnose their problem then make them feel better by re-writing them in

your work book.

E.g.

Sentence: The alien was called beegu.

Diagnosis: no capital letter for a name.

Treatment: add a capital letter for a name.

The alien was called Beegu.

Beegu missed her family

If you pick the stick that says BAM! You must put all your sticks

back in the pot.

The winner is the person who has the most sticks when the time

is up

Maths: Multiplication

LO: to add equal groups

Yesterday we looked at making our own equal groups. Today we will begin

adding equal groups together.

For the following equal groups, choose your level of challenge:

Bronze challenge: represent each group with loose parts (e.g.

pasta, pebbles etc.) Can you count the total?

Silver challenge: Draw these equal groups pictorially and record

your totals.

Gold challenge: Can you think of another way to record this?

Think of the different maths we have learnt in the past.

Groups of 5

Groups of 5 Groups of 10

Look at these bikes. Each bike has 2 wheels. There are 5 bikes. I could say

that there are 5 equal groups of 2 wheels.

I want to find out how many wheels there are all together.

I can do this by representing the wheels with objects, or pictorially as an

image:

I can count that there are 10 wheels altogether.

Friday’s Learning

What is important in a friend?

Plan

Draw (or print below) some thought

bubbles and fill them with things you think

are important in a friend.

Use the pictures below to help you.

Check

Write

Create a WANTED poster.

Phonics Challenge Day

Challenge 1

Hide the following words around the house or garden.

Shout out one of the words and race to find it. Whoever

finds it first is the winner.

crayon sound thirteen blue skirt

lawn phonics chewing tie launch

Challenge 2

How many of these items can you spot

outside today? Tick them off as you find

them.

Can you add some more to the list for your

family to find?

What do you notice about the type of

digraph in each of these words?

Challenge 3

I spy with my little eye…

Play phase 5 ‘I spy’ using the pictures and

grapheme cards below

Maths: Multiplication

LO: to add equal groups

1. Can you write repeated additions for the following equal groups?

2. Instead of counting the objects individually to find your total, you could

use your knowledge of counting in 5s and10s?

Challenge:

Bronze challenge: Can you represent the following repeated additions as

images?

Silver challenge: Can you find the totals by counting in either 2s, 5s or 10s?

Gold challenge: Can you create your own repeated additions by making

equal groups of objects around the house?

1. 5 + 5 + 5 =

2. 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 =

3. 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 =

Yesterday we looked at these bikes. We decided that there were 5

groups of 2 wheels. We also counted that there were 10 wheels all

together.

Instead of using pictorial images to represent this, we could use a number

sentence.

2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 10

This is called a repeated addition.

The number 2 represents the 2 wheels, instead of using the image.
