Parent Teacher Consultations

Our first Parent Teacher Consultations this year will be on Tuesday 9th and

Thursday 11th October. This is a valuable opportunity for you to find out moreabout your child’s learning in Inquiry, English and Mathematics throughconversation with their class teacher. Bookings for appointments are madethrough the Gateway and this is available for families with more than one

child at school from 3pm Monday 17th September and for all our families

The students are getting very excited about sharing our learning with you onFriday 28th September from 9am. They are participating in many learningengagements linked to our Central Idea; working hard and showing greatenthusiasm.

Unit of Inquiry

This week we have continued preparing for our sharing day by practicing for ourdance routines. In addition to this the students have also been workingcollaboratively to create a superhero whose beliefs are portrayed by their actions.

English

The students have continued to develop their understanding of a variety of poetrydevices such as alliteration and personification in order to see how they cancreate mental imagery through their writing. They have also been practisingusing these in different forms of poetry such as Cinquain and emotions poems.

Maths

This week the students have begun working on measurement. They started this byinvestigating measurement statements about the human body to see if they weretrue or false. They are now learning to compare, order and convert differentforms of measurement.

Next week, students will continue their dance lessons with the class teachers and

Ms Kannis. They will be creating a multimedia project to showcase their ownsuperheroes. The students will also be working on Art projects connected withtheir beliefs and having the opportunity to use Toontastic 3D software.

Next week the students will be continuing to investigate measurement usingstandard units. We will be beginning to inquire into area and perimeter through aseries of problem solving engagements.

Writing focus: Writing to entertainPoetryWe will continue to work on poetry and create senses poems that showcase thestudents’ awareness of alliteration and similes. We will still be looking at thepoetic devices we may find in some poems (metaphor, alliteration, similes,repetition, rhyme, onomatopeia).

Comprehension StrategiesVisualising and Self-monitoring

The students have been looking at the self-monitoring strategies that they use tohelp them understand the text they are reading. They have been looking at anyproblems they might come across when reading and chosen a strategy to helpthem understand. They then reflected on how this strategy helped themunderstand the text better.

SpellingWe have now assessed the student’s spelling and are currently analysing theseresults, we will begin Spelling homework in the next couple of weeks. ReadingStudents should read everyday and talk to an adult about the text they haveselected.

MathematicsAll children should aim to spend 30 minutes per week completing their assignedMathletics tasks and/or practising their times tables.
