SAPS declare war on law breakersBURGERSFORT - The Tubatse SAPS

have started with its festive-season operations to prevent and combat crime in their policing area.

Over the past weekend, from November 18 to 22, nine people were

of alcohol. Another 24 people were also arrested for consuming liquor in public.

“As we are still approaching the festive season, Tubatse SAPS will continue with operations and roadblocks to prevent crime. We faced challenges of alcohol abuse in previous years in our policing area.

“The community are urged to stop the abuse of alcohol to prevent cases of reckless driving as well as culpable homicide.

“Residents are also urged not to drink and walk on the roads while they are drunk,” said Tubatse SAPS spokesman Sgt Jerial Mvundlela.

Mvundlela said there would be zero tolerance against drinking and driving,

“The SAPS, combined with other state and provincial authorities, are committed to reducing this crime, particularly over festive periods.

“No one is trying to stop you from having a good time - just be responsible about doing it!

“Your blood may not have an alcohol content of more than 0,05 per cent. This

means that even after what you may think is a “small drink”, you could be over the limit.

“If you have more than 350ml of beer, or if you have more than a

single tot of brandy or other liquor, you may already be over the limit. Remember that these levels of alcohol will remain in your system for up to eight hours after consumption,” he advised.

He warned the drinkers to stay wherever they are until they are sober.

“Do not take chances - rather stay where you are until you have sobered up, or arrange for alternative transport home. Make such plans in advance to ensure that you are not left stranded.”

No one is trying to stop you from having a good time - just be

responsible about doing it!

“Legally it is not easy to get someone to complete the job. We will engage with our legal team who will give us a way forward on the matter. GTFM takes pride in its communities and is determined to electrify the remaining villages,” said Tolo.

Meanwhile reliable sources in the municipality said GTFM will appeal the High Court ruling.

Little Marius Naude has been in hospital for more than a month now.

Twin baby in dire straitsLYDENBURG - Things are not looking

good for little Marius. The prematurely born twin of Mr Kobus (29) and Ms Hyletta (29) Naude was delivered in Lydenburg Hospital on October 5.

His brother, Markus, died the same day in hospital after the staff at Lydenburg Hospital allegedly ignored the couple’s plea for medical assistance.

Hyletta was 28 weeks pregnant with the identical twin boys when her water broke on September 28. Her husband took her to Lydenburg Hospital.

Kobus requested the hospital to arrange an ambulance for his wife to Rob Ferreira Hospital as the twins were premature and Lydenburg hospital did not have a neonatal ICU. His requests were ignored and Hyletta gave birth to the two bridge babies on her hospital bed.

Four hours later Markus died. Shortly afterwards an ambulance arrived

and Hyletta and Marius were taken to Rob Ferreira Hospital.

On November 12 Marius was discharged from hospital.

“We were driving back to Lydenburg when Marius stopped breathing. I started tapping his back and he thankfully started breathing again. At home that night

Hyletta bathed him, he stopped breathing again,” said Kobus.

He said that he ran with him to the nearest

Thaba Chweu Local Municipality (TCLM) said it was aware of the electricity and water crises. According to TCLM spokesman, Mr Puleng Mapheto, the high level of cable theft contributes to the outages.

“The contractor that is installing water pipes around the town has damaged many of our underground cables, unfortunately they are not liasing with the electricity division.

“We will continuously repair faults as and when they arise. The ageing infrastructure also attributes to this ongoing interruption. As we said before, we have plans in place but it is not an overnight job. It will take some time before everything is intact. Development around town is growing at a vast pace, and seemly our network is not coping. With regard to the cable theft, the municipality opened a case at the SAPS and

we hope the perpetrators will be brought to book,” said Mapheto.

Modikwa’s lucky 13 take on 94.7 Cycle Challenge

held at the Riversands Commercial Park in Fourways on Sunday, November 20.

Thirteen members of the Modikwa Cycling Club participated in this 95km route.

“One of the advantages of the race was the road closures for most of the day. Cyclists thoroughly enjoyed the freedom of riding on the normally very busy roads and highways in and around Johannesburg.

“As part of the route cyclists were also treated to cycling a lap on the newly renovated Kayalami Race Track,” commented one of Modikwa’s cyclists, Helhard Prins. A total of 33 000 riders took part in the race this year.

“It was very hot and humid and a lot of riders

cramps, but there were enough medical stations along the route to

assist with massages.” A new addition to the challenge were

bike stations with proper bike mechanics where riders could get help with

minor mechanical problems and punctures.” Members of the Modikwa Cycling Club who participated were Hope Tyira,

Darren and Ilse McDonald, Helgaard and Juanita Prins, Derek and Bev Rieck,

Duminy and Jannie and Sanet Oosthuizen and their son, Anton.

Darren McDonald recorded the best time of the Modikwa cyclists. He

completed the race in 4:04.

Derek and Bev Rieck and André, Carine and Nicole Duminy.
