3.1 Permitted voltage stressesThis section describes the permitted voltage stresses of single-phase and multiphase on-load tap-changers.
When selecting the on-load tap-changer, you must check that the highest stresses do not exceed the relatedrated withstand voltages at the insulation distances.

3.2 Tapped winding potential connectionDuring its switching operation the tapped winding is briefly electrically isolated from the main winding by thereversing change-over selector or coarse change-over selector. It then adopts a potential resulting from thevoltages of the adjacent windings and coupling capacities for these windings or earthed parts.
This potential shift of the tapped winding produces corresponding voltages between the deactivating change-over selector contacts because one contact is always connected to the tapped winding and the other contactis always connected to the main winding. This voltage is known as the recovery voltage UW.
When separating the change-over selector contacts, a capacitive current has to be interrupted. This currentdepends on the aforementioned coupling capacities of the tapped winding. This current is known as thebreaking current IS.
The recovery voltage UW and breaking current IS may result in impermissible signs of discharge on thechange-over selector. The permissible range of recovery voltage UW and breaking current IS can be seen inthe following diagrams:
The Active Gas Inhibition System (AGIS) reduces the amount of gas that arises during a change-over selec-tor operation. For more information about recovery voltage and breaking current, see Technical Data TD 61 -General Part.

4.1 Parallel bridges for parallel connectionsParallel bridges enable current splitting to the connection contacts of 2 or 3 selector planes. Parallel bridgesare only available for the following on-load tap changers:
VACUTAP® VM I 1503
OILTAP® M I 1503
OILTAP® R I 2002/2003 and OILTAP® R I 3003
Parallel bridges on the selector connection contacts are mandatory if the tap winding has been wound in twoor more branches and each of these branch taps is connected to the contacts of the selector.
This measure reliably prevents the following:▪ Introduction of circulating currents into the current paths of selector and diverter switch▪ Commutating arc on movable selector contact bridges▪ Overvoltage between adjacent selector connection contacts connected in parallel
4.2 VACUTAP® VM® on-load tap-changer combination for delta connectionThe on-load tap-changer VM II 652 can also be used with the single-column on-load tap-changer VM I 651as a two-column on-load tap-changer combination VM I 651/VM II 652 for adjusting the voltage of transform-er windings in a delta connection.
This combination is known as VM III K ("K" for the German "Kombination"). The tap windings for this shouldbe provided as shown below:

4.3 OILTAP® M on-load tap-changer combination for delta connectionThe on-load tap-changer M II 602 can also be used with the single-column on-load tap-changer M I 601 as atwo-column on-load tap-changer combination M I 601/M II 602 for adjusting the voltage of transformer wind-ings in a delta connection.
This combination is known as M III K ("K" for the German "Kombination"). The tap windings for this should beprovided as shown below:
