CHRISTIAN LIFE PROGRAM (CLP): Couples for Christ Winnipeg West Chapter invites everyone to join us in our Christian Life Program. It is open to all adult (Single or Married) individuals. Orientation Session will begin on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 1:15 p.m. downstairs in the parish hall of Saint John XXIII Church. Families with little ones are most welcome as we offer baby-sitting during the program. Registration is FREE! For more information, please contact Ron/Ianne Purisima 204-218-1515, 204-791-5691; Frank/Minda Aborde 204-881-3824, 204-952-1255; Ronnie/Josie Licsi 204-999-5660 or the Saint John XXIII Parish Office. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

BUILDING ENVELOPE REPAIRS NEEDED: As most of us know, we have a good building. However, at 49 years of age it is starting to need some major maintenance and repair. To maintain the integrity of the building envelope (i.e. its outer shell), we need to replace many broken and cracked bricks and re-point the brick and decorative masonry trim panels. We have a quote for this work and would like to proceed prior to another freeze season. The cost of this work will be approximately $12,500.00. So far, as of August 28th, a total of $6,400.00 has been donated. We are hoping to proceed with this work in September 2016, but we cannot proceed until we receive funds specific to this project. Therefore, I ask for your generosity towards this project. If you are able to help, please make your cheque payable to “St. John XXIII Parish” and indicate that your donation is to be used towards “Building Envelope Repair”. Thank you for considering this important request. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

SHARING GOD’S GIFTS 2016: Our Parish’s appeal target for 2016 is $50,670. As of the end of August, $7,955.00 has been received through the parish office which represents 15.70% of our parish appeal target for 2016. So slowly but surely we are making some progress. We are hoping and praying for the participation of many more parishioners so together we can pick up speed and make our target once again in 2016 as we did in 2015. Envelopes are available in the pamphlet rack at the south church entrance or in the parish office. Whether you submit your contribution to Sharing God’s Gifts 2016 through the parish office or directly to the Archdiocese, please make cheques payable to “Sharing God’s Gifts”. Pre-authorized debit and VISA options are also available – see information on the appeal envelopes. Thank you for your generous support. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

CHICKEN & RIB BBQ DINNER: The St. James Knights of Columbus will be hosting their annual Chicken & Rib BBQ Dinner at Saint John XXIII Parish Hall on Sunday, September 18, 2016. The event begins at 6:00 p.m. Tickets: Adults $15.00, Children 12 & under $7.00. You may contact the parish office or brother knights to obtain tickets. All Welcome.

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS to serve on a new parish stewardship committee and on a new parish fundraising committee. As we move forward in faith as a parish community, we are looking to enlist and engage parishioners with appropriate gifts and talents to become involved in the establishment of both a new Parish Stewardship Committee and a new Parish Fundraising Committee. Those interested in becoming involved in either or both of these proposed committees are encouraged to speak with members of the parish staff and/or members of our Parish Visioning and Strategic Planning Committee. Thank you for your kind consideration. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

KNITTING GROUP: Beginning September 7, 2016, our Knitting/Crocheting Group will gather from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on alternating Wednesday afternoons. All women and men who can knit or crochet are invited to participate. We can provide materials and even teach you, if you wish. We create "welcome baby" layettes to support mothers and babies assisted by Villa Rosa or Pregnancy and Family Support Services and sometimes for other worthwhile causes. Our stash of supplies is nearly depleted, so we would greatly appreciate donations of yarn and other sewing materials. For further information, you may contact Beverly Hewitt at 204-885-1202 or [email protected] _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

WINNIPEG HARVEST ISSUES PLEA FOR KEY FOOD ITEMS: In was announced recently in the Winnipeg Free Press that Winnipeg Harvest has a shortage of key food items and needs our help. Members of the public are asked to donate whatever they can among the critically needed items of canned meat, canned beans, canned soup, canned fruit, rice and pasta. These items are needed to build food kits that are sent out to nearly 64,000 Manitobans who receive food monthly from Winnipeg Harvest, a press release said. Here at Saint John XXIII Parish we serve as a Winnipeg Harvest outlet every second Wednesday throughout the year. Parishioners with non-perishable food items to donate may drop them off in our new Winnipeg Harvest Donation Box located under the pamphlet rack at the south entrance to the church.

MINISTRY OF HOSPITALITY (USHERS/GREETERS): We are looking for new volunteers to help serve in the Ministry of Hospitality as Greeters/Ushers at all weekend Sunday liturgies. This is an excellent opportunity to meet some of your fellow parishioners and get involved in an important parish ministry. Parishioners interested in assisting may get more information by speaking with a current usher or by contacting Richard Carlyle @ 204-889-0238. We also ask those currently serving in the Ministry of Hospitality to help in seeking out new Ministers of Hospitality by approaching prospective volunteers in a personal way at your own weekend Mass times. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
