Blueprint Reading - 40 hrsThis course introduces a trainee to basic blueprint and plan reading. Itcovers a combination of light commercial, commercial and highway· prints,exposing the trainee to a variety of construction plans and blueprints.

Concrete Practices & Procedures - 40 hrsThis training course covers many aspects of the concrete industry, includingmix proportioning, mineral and chemical admixtures, forming systems, subgrade preparation, placing and curing of concrete. Trainees participate inextensive step-by-step hands-on training such as placing and vibratingconcrete.

Flagging I MNDOT - 4 hrsThis course exposes trainees to the rules and responsibilities of flaggingand basic understanding of traffic control devices and layouts. Each traineewill receive a MN/DOT flagging handbook.

Foreman Preparedness - 40 hrsThis course provides a prospective foreman with leadership techniquesutilized in the construction industry. It consists of instruction oncommunication techniques, construction math, job safety and hazardanalysis, project organization and documentation, problem solving andhuman relations.Prerequisites: Level 3 Apprentices and Journeyworkers

General Construction - 40 hrsThis course provides a trainee with the fundamentals of the constructionindustry. It covers the following topics: gas, electric & pneumatic tools,materials recognition, flagging/traffic control, compaction, rigging &signaling, torch cutting and burning, and introductory construction math.-Note: Mandatory for all Apprentices

Heavy and Highway Skills - 40 hrsThis course introduces practical applications of various tasks andknowledge needed for successful highway and large excavation projects.

Light Rail - 8 hrsThis course covers how to make rail, includes technical discussion,economics of track, hand tools, equipment and track types.

Line & Grade I - 40 hrsThis course prepares an individual to perform the basic duties of gradechecking, elevation setting, and various tasks associated with usinginstruments on building and highway heavy projects.

Line & Grade II - 40 hrsThis course familiarizes a trainee with the fundamental skills needed towork with lasers, levels, transits and hand-held levels to perform gradechecking, slope and ditch calculation, grid staking and layouts. It involvesa combination of classroom lecture and demonstration with extensivehands-on training. It is highly recommended for highway heavy constructionlaborers.Prerequisites: Line & Grade I

Mason Tending - 40 hrsThis course provides a trainee with a thorough understanding of the dutiesand responsibilities of the mason tender such as: mortar mixing, scaffoldusage, material handling, job site safety, block saw and hand tool safety andrecognition.

Pipe Fusion - 8 hrsThis course is designed to educate students on the theory of polyethylenepipe fusion, the techniques utilized in both butt fusion (hand & hydraulic) andelectro fuslon, the use of mechanical fittings, and testing procedures.

Pipelaying I - 40 hrsThis course is an introductory course to the sewer and water industry. Itcovers utility line and grade considerations and basic procedures for theinstallation of gravity flow and pressure piping systems. It also exposes thetrainee to pipe fusion techniques.

Pipelaying II - 40 hrsThis course covers advanced pipe laying techniques and math calculationsfor utility line and grade. It covers utility staking, utility testing procedures,sediment & erosion control, and a comprehensive look into crewresponsibilities. Participants will also receive excavation and trenching

safety, confined space awareness training, the Minnesota state plu bingcode (pipelayer's card), and utility blue print reading.Prerequisites: Pipelaying I

Pipeline Technology -40 hrsThis course introduces the tasks associated with natural gas and p troleumpipeline construction. Trainees learn about proper locating techniqu s,site grading, fence building, pipe stringing, dewatering techniques, ipepreparation, pipe coating, leak detection, testing and cathodic prote tion.

Plaster Tending - 40 hrsThis course provides a trainee with a better understanding of the d tiesand responsibilities of the plaster tender such as: plaster mixing, m terialhandling, job site safety, scaffold usage and hand tool safety andrecognition.

Remote Camera Inspection I Trenchless Pipe Renovation - 0 hrsThis course covers the proper operation and maintenance of remot camerainspection equipment, jetting and pipe cleaning techniques, various pipe andmanhole relining and replacement methods, and the use of remote uttersfor reinstating services in lined pipe.Prerequisites: Pipelaying I & II or a minimum of 2 years pipelaying ieldexperience

Rigging and Signaling Qualified - 24 hrsIn this class a laborer will learn how to successfully and safely perfo mrigging procedures through the use of OSHA safety principles. This oursewill cover advanced math for rigging problems such as volumes an weightcalculation, sling tension, and center of gravity formulas. We will als coverrigging equipment with the use of signaling and hands on training.Prerequisites: Apprentices must complete Safety Week and GenerConstruction.-Note: There is also an 8 hour Rigging and Signaling Qualified cour eavailable to Journeyworkers (some level 3 Apprentices may qualify nly withApprenticeship Director or Training Director approval)

Scaffold Erecting - 40 hrsThis course provides a thorough base knowledge of safe and efficie tscaffold erection of various scaffold types such as: system scaffold, oilingtower scaffold, tube and clamp, and welded tubular frame scaffold. I alsoaddresses covering and sheltering techniques for mason scaffold. traineereceives a scaffold competent person card upon successful complet on ofthe course by achieving 80% or better on the exam.

SWPPP Installer (Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan) - 8 hrsThis hands-on course is designed to provide an MPCA Installer levecertification. The course focuses on the installation & maintenance racticesand procedures involved with erosion/sediment control, Contractorchallenges will also be discussed. There will be an exam requiringminimum score of 70% to certify.·Note: This course meets MPCA standards.

SWPPP Manager (Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan) - 6 hrsThis hands-on course is designed to provide an MPCA Site Manage levelcertification. The course focuses on the supervision of the instaliatio &maintenance practices and procedures involved with erosion/sedim ntcontrol. Contractor challenges will also be discussed. There will be nexam requiring a minimum score of 70% to certify.Prerequisites: Journeyworkers Only·Note: This course meets MPCA standards.

Torch Cutting I Demo Safety -16 hrsThis course covers torch set-up, safety, and hands-on training in cudemolition.

Welding I Air Arc - 200 hrsThis course is a combined welding course. Torch Cutting covers var oustypes of demolition torches, demolition safety in regardS to torch ope ationand includes hands-on training. Trainees also receive an introductio to airarc cutting. A trainee receives 5 welding credits from the state vocati nalsystem upon successful course completion. Trainees demonstratingadvanced proficiency may test for welding certifications.Prerequisites: Apprentices must complete Safety Week, GeneralConstruction and Torch Cutting

Asbestos Abatement Training• Asbestos Worker Initial - 32 hours• Asbestos Worker Refresher - 8 hours• Asbestos Supervisor Initial - 40 hours• Asbestos Supervisor Refresher - 8 hours

Asbestos training is offered year-round and is a recognized demolitionpractice by OSHA and the Laborers Union. Training complies withMinnesota Department of Health regulations for persons performingAsbestos work in the State of Minnesota. Individuals desiring to workasbestos in the state of Minnesota must:Workers: Prove 1,000 hours of construction experienceSupervisors: Prove 2,000 hours of construction experienceCertification in the state of Minnesota requires a picture and a state fee.'Note: Registration through your Local Union

Hazwoper Training• Hazwoper Initial - 40 hours• Hazwoper Refresher - 8 hours

This course covers 29 CFR 1910.120/29, CFR 1926.65, and HazardousWaste Operation Worker Training (HAZWOPER). It consists of acombination of 30 classroom hours and 10 hands-on training hours.

Lead Training• Lead Worker Initial - 24 hours• Lead Worker Refresher - 8 hours• Lead Supervisor Initial - 32 hours• Lead Supervisor Refresher - 8 hours

Training complies with Minnesota Department of Health regulations forpersons performing Lead work in the State of Minnesota. Only supervisorsdesiring to work Lead must prove 1,000 hours of related work experience. Astate fee is required for certification in Minnesota.'Note: Registration through your Local Union

CPR / First Aid - 8 hrsThe Training Center offers American Heart and Lung CPR and EmergencyFirst Aid training.

Excavation I Confined Space - 8 hrsThis course introduces trainees to the hazards and responsibilities ofworking in and around excavations and confined spaces. This coursecomplies with OSHA's training requirement for working in confined spaces.Students wilileam proper procedures for entrants and attendants as wellas proper rescue procedures, how to identify hazards and convey properpreparation procedures.

Mine Safety I Health Administration (MSHA) - 8 hrsThis course is a yearly refresher course on Mine Safety/HealthAdministration rules and regulations. Laborers must maintain a currentcertification to work on mine property.Prerequisites: MSHA 24-hour or Safety Week with MSHA New MinerTraining

OSHA 10 - 10 hrsOSHA recommends the 10 hour construction outreach training programas an orientation to occupational safety and health for workers covered byOSHA 29 CFR 1926.Prerequisites: Journeyworkers only

OSHA 30 - 30 hrsThis course instructs a trainee in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)for construction. It outlines the basics of OSHA, its mission in protecting theworker and covers ten different subparts of the OSHA standards.Prerequisites: Journeyworkers only

Plumbing CodelPipelayers Card: The Minnesota State Plumbing Code(Pipelayers Card) now requires that you attend a 4 hour refresher to newyour card. This 4 hour refresher is offered on Thursday morning of ea hPipelaying " Course.

Dress Code: Please note that when attending training, trainees mucome dressed as they would for work; wearing long pants, shirts withsleeves and work boots. This dress code policy will be strictly enforce forthe safety of our members.

CLASS SCHEDULEDaytime training classes begin promptly at 7:00 A.M. End times vary based upon the type of class.Evening classes are held from 5:00 P,M. to 9:00 P,M.-Cancellations are announced on Kare 11 News and www.kare11.com when classes are cancelled due to inclement weather.

LO. 'GING/STIPENDSTrainees living outside a 75-mile radius qualify for a hotel room and stipend. Trainees share a room with another trainee at the BestWestern White Bear Country Inn Hotel located at: 4940 Highway 61, White Bear Lake, MN 55110 (651) 429-5393.

mmlImIOur trainee lunch I break room contains snack and beverage machines, microwaves and refrigerators. No food service is available.

REQULATIONSNo Tobacco of any kind is permitted inside the facility. Smoking is permitted outside in designated areas only.The Laborers Training Center bans guns on its premises,

r.mrmIAppropriate work attire is required. Dress as you would for work when attending training courses. Wear long pants, shirts with sleev sand work boots. Come prepared to work inside and outside. Hard hats and safety glasses will be provided. For safety reasons, antrainee dressed inappropriately will not be permitted to attend class.
