Target group

These Instructions for Use are intended for physicians, nurses and other med-ical and technical staff who prepare, operate or maintain the device after ap-propriate training. It is the duty of the equipment owner/operator to train and brief all the operating staff.

Extended service tasks are not part of these Instructions for Use. They will be performed by staff specially trained for this purpose by ZEISS.

Field of application

Intended use

The S100 / OPMI pico is a surgical microscope designed to illuminate and magnify the surgical area and to support the visualization of surgical proce-dures.

Normal use

The S100 / OPMI pico is a microscope that is operated manually on a sitting or lying patient.

Provision: The S100 / OPMI offers in conjunction with different suspension systems (e.g. floor stand, wall mount, ceiling mount) and flexible carrier arms, an ergo-nomic working position for the treatment environment or surgery. The system can be securely moved into the working position with the hand grips without any problems.

Treatment/surgery: The microscope is positioned and roughly focused by the physician or the sur-geon. The most frequently used functions as the setting of focus, magnifica-tion and light intensity are manually controlled by the physician or the sur-geon during treatment or surgery.

A video player is connected to the system for educational purposes or to vis-ualize the progress of the treatment/surgery.

After the treatment / surgery The physician or the surgeon swings the surgical microscope from the treat-ment or surgical area into its standby position. The S100 / OPMI pico can be cleaned and disinfected.

Disposal: For the disposal of electrical and electronic devices, please observe the rele-vant national legislation and other regulations applicable in your country.

Notes for the operator

The correct use of the device is absolutely vital for safe operation. Therefore, please thoroughly familiarize yourself with the content of these instructions for use before starting up the system. Please also observe the instructions for use of any additional equipment. You can obtain additional information from ZEISS Service.

• Only operate the device within the scope of its intended use.

• Only personnel who have undergone appropriate training and instruction are allowed to use this device. It is the responsibility of the customer or the company operating the device to train and instruct all operating per-sonnel.

• Please keep these Instructions for Use where they are easily accessible at all times for the persons operating the system.

CAUTION Injury to the patient's eye!

• The S100 / OPMI pico must not be used for ophthalmic procedures!

• Make sure that no light enters the patient's eyes.

CAUTION Live video images and recorded video sequences, video clips (cut sequences) and single images must not be used for diagnosis purposes. Visualized im-ages may contain variations in shape, contrast and color.

• Please take note of the planning guidelines (brochure M-30-1385) for planning the S100 ceiling mount or the S100 wall mount.

• Note the symbols and labels attached to the device (see Page 22)!

• Use only original accessories approved by ZEISS.

Legal regulations • Observe the legal regulations for accident prevention and occupational health and safety applicable in the country concerned.

• This system must not be modified without the manufacturer's approval. If the system is modified, suitable inspections and testing must be complet-ed to ensure that it can still be used safely. The manufacturer is not liable for damage caused by unauthorized per-sons tampering with the system. Furthermore, this will forfeit any rights to claim under warranty.

• Modifications and repairs on this device or any equipment operated to-gether with this device may only be performed by ZEISS SERVICE.

• If required by the regulations and directives applicable in the country of use, connect the system to a special emergency backup power supply.

Ambient requirements • Do not operate the system contained in the delivery package

– in explosion-risk areas,

– if inflammable anesthetics or volatile solvents such as alcohol, benzine or similar chemicals are present at a distance of less than 25 cm.

• Do not station or use the instrument in damp rooms. Do not expose the instrument to water splashes, dripping water or sprayed water.

• Do not place any fluid-filled containers on top of the instrument. Make sure that no fluids can seep into the instrument.

• Make sure that the installation conditions and the use of the device meet surgical requirements: See Ambient conditions on Page 257

Electrical safety • Always switch off the system before disconnecting it from / connecting it to line power, for cleaning its surface or if it will not be used for a pro-longed period of time.

• Switch off the unit at the power switch if you notice any smoke, sparks or unusual noise. Do not use the unit until it has been repaired by our service team.

• Do not use multiple sockets!

• Never open the device! The device contains freely accessible live compo-nents. If you remove the housing, you run the risk of electric shock.

• Do not touch the system if your body is electrostatically charged and the system is not grounded.

• A potential equalization connector (see IEC 60601-1:2005) is provided on the connector panel. This connector is optional for halogen and Xenon il-lumination. This connector can be used for placing other active devices at the same ground potential or for redundant grounding to protective earth.

• Please note the information on EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) in the chapter "System Data" on Page 245.

Transport & Service • The device may only be moved over long distances (e.g. relocation, return for repair etc.) in its original packaging or in special return packaging. Please contact your dealer or ZEISS Service.

• This system is a high-grade technological product. To ensure optimum performance and safe working order, we recommend having it checked by our service representative as part of regular scheduled maintenance.

• In order to prevent any impairment of the device's safety due to age, wear, etc., the user must ensure that the device is subjected to the neces-sary safety checks (see section "Care and Maintenance").

Optics and light • Never look into a light source or the sun with the binocular tube, the ob-jective lens or an eyepiece.

• Never directly look into the light source, e.g. a microscope object lens or a light guide to avoid phototoxic damages to the eyes.

• Adjust the brightness at the stand. Start with the lowest brightness and slowly increase it to the required but not more than the allowed bright-ness.

• With increasing age of the light source, the actual illumination intensity delivered at the respective setting decreases (this is a normal property of the system).

Requirements for operation

Prior to the very first use

A ZEISS Service representative or an expert authorized by ZEISS will install the system. Please make sure that the following requirements continue to be met for further operation:

If you determine that one of the symbols or the lettering (effective Page 22) is missing or illegible on your device, please contact ZEISS Service or the ZEISS authorized partner.

The connecting components have been properly connected. The screw connections have been firmly tightened.

All cables and plugs are in perfect condition.

Determine the supply voltage at the place of installation and set the volt-age of the device accordingly.

Check whether the device fuse used is the correct one as specified on the fuse label.

More specific information about the floor stand: The main plug must only be connected to a socket with

a faultless protective ground conductor.

The device is connected with the power cord supplied.

Additional information about wall and ceiling mount: The device may only be connected to a power supply network which has

a faultless protective ground conductor.

WARNING The device must not be modified without any approval!

This device must not be modified without the manufacturer's approval. If the device is modified, appropriate examinations and tests must be per-formed to guarantee the further secure use of the device.

The manufacturer is not liable for damages caused by an unauthorized use of the device. Furthermore, this will invalidate any rights to make a claim under the warranty.

Before every use

• When adding accessories and/or components, please ensure the permis-sible total weight of the device is not exceeded (see label "Maximum load" or section "Technical Data").

• When connecting accessories make sure that sufficient free space is pro-vided and that the surgical microscope does not touch the patient.

• Before every use, perform the balancing procedure to enable the surgical microscope to maintain its balance in all positions of the working range.

• Check the surgical microscope for sufficient freedom of movement. The device itself or accessories may be damaged if conflicting with each other.

• To prevent accessories from falling down, check before every use that ac-cessories are securely locked in position and securing screws are firmly tightened.

• Always run cables in a manner that will not impede the user's movements.

• If you operate the device in a sterile area, make sure that you use the cor-responding sterile accessories for the device.

• Make sure that the operating staff is briefed about sterile use of the sys-tem.

• Never cover any ventilation openings, as the light source of the system switches off in the event of overheating.

• Do not exert any force when plugging in electrical plug-in connections (connectors, jacks). If connection is not readily possible, check whether the plug fits the socket. If you detect any damage to the plug-in connec-tion, arrange for the damage to be repaired by ZEISS Service.

• Please refer to the functional test in chapter "Operation" (Page 129).

More specific information about the floor stand:• Using the brake tabs on the base, secure the stand in position. Make sure

that the stand is stable and cannot roll away.

During use

• Reduce the brightness and duration of light exposure of the surgical area to the absolute minimum level required to avoid burn injuries.

• Never directly look into the light source, e.g. a microscope object lens or a light guide to avoid phototoxic damages to the eyes.

• Never leave a device unattended with the light source still switched on.

• Not approved or defective accessories for the device may lead to elevated leakage currents. Never connect the non approved or defective accesso-ries to the device.

• Never touch video interfaces while in contact with the patient.

• If you need to change the lamp shortly after it has failed, the lamp will still be very hot. Use heat-resistant protective gloves when replacing the lamp to prevent burns.

• If the xenon lamp is used beyond its maximum service life of 500 hours (see chapter "Maintenance intervals" on Page 222), sudden failure may occur and interrupt operation. Change to the backup lamp or replace the lamp module in a timely manner.

• If the halogen lamp is used beyond its maximum service life of 50 hours, sudden failure may occur and interrupt operation. Replace the halogen lamp in a timely manner (see chapter "Care and Maintenance" on Chang-ing the halogen lamp on page 1).

• Do not pull at the power cord or any other connecting cables.

• If a failure occurs which you cannot correct with the aid of the chapter "What to do in the event of malfunctions attach a sign to the system stat-ing it is out of order and inform ZEISS Service.

• Never operate the system unattended.

• Always switch off the system - before disconnecting it from / connecting it to line power - if it will not be used for a prolonged period of time - or for cleaning purposes.

After every use

• Always use the master switch to turn off the device if it is not in use.

• Insufficient, incorrect or wrong cleaning or disinfection contrary to the di-rections in these Instructions for Use may expose the patient or medical staff to a considerable risk of infection. For more information, please see "Maintenance of the device" in the chapter "Care and Maintenance".

• If the light guide is not connected at both ends, there may be a risk of fire or burning when the light source is activated.

• Risk of crushing - mind your fingers!Fingers may be crushed in the areas marked with the "Risk of crushing" label.Do not touch these areas while the system is being moved.

Liability and warranty

Warranty and liability depend on the applicable contractual stipulations.

Loss of warranty!

The manufacturer is not liable for damages caused by an unauthorized use of the device. Furthermore, this will this will invalidate any rights to make a claim under the warranty.

Possible burn injuries due to a high illumination intensity

General

This device is optionally equipped with a powerful xenon light source.

Various factors contribute to the risk of burn injuries:

Device-related factors:

– With increasing service life of the lamp, the actual light intensity delivered at the respective setting decreases. In case of a bulb exchange, illumina-tion increases to the originally high value.

Surgery-related factors:

– The selected intensity of the light source is a major factor for the risk of injury. It should always be set to the minimum required for the surgical procedure to be performed.

– A long surgical procedure increases the risk of injury, in particular if a standard procedure takes considerably longer than usual.

– Injuries in the peripheral area may be avoided by covering the respective parts with wet, sterile gauze.The gauze must be moistened at regular intervals to avoid that the area dries out or heats up.

– Certain preparations of the surgical field, local vasoconstrictive medica-tions and incision drapes may also result in a higher risk of injury (drapes may heat up to varying degrees depending on their color and moisture content).

– You should also take into account that some areas of the body may be more sensitive than others.

Patient-related factors:

– The general condition of a patient's health may contribute to the risk of injury.

– The skin type may also play a major role for the risk of injury.

CAUTION Danger of burnings caused by high light intensity!

In case of a misuse of the light source, a too high illumination intensity may cause tertiary burns.

• Please read and note the following points.

– Certain medications also affect the sensitivity to light.

– The interaction of heat and antimicrobial substances in incision foils may lead to an increased reaction of the patient to these substances.

Recommendations

Due to the large number of different factors involved and the lack of scientific publications on this topic, Carl Zeiss cannot provide guidance on acceptable illumination intensities and exposure durations. However, this system has sev-eral features that can help the user to reduce the risk of burns.

– The start value of the illumination intensity can be set to a low value.

– The risk of burns can be reduced by constantly by irrigating the illuminated surgical field and by keeping it moist.

– If used, drapes should also be re-moistened at regular intervals in order to prevent heat from accumulating underneath the drape.

– Switch off the light when the microscope is not used, and make sure that it is not pointed at unprotected bare skin.

Please keep in mind that the most published cases with burns refer to the skin around the incision. The most important measure to avoid burns is covering the peripheral area with wet, sterile gauze. The area of the incision should be constantly moistened.

Final remark

ZEISS recommends that the lighting of the surgical field be reduced as far as is possible for the safety of the patient and for a good microscopic image.Please refer to the warnings and precautions in this case.

Safety devices

Halogen light source

1 FlapThe flap is used as mechanic indicator of the operating status of the hal-ogen light source.

– When the flap is closed, the main lamp is operative.

– When the flap is open, the main lamp has failed. The backup lamp is on.

2 Switching to the backup lamp The lamp housing contains a backup lamp. If the first lamp fails, you can switch on the backup lamp by pressing this button.

• Replace the defective lamp at the first opportunity (see Page 224).

Xenon light source

– UV/IR heat protection filterThe filter protects from UV and IR radiation.

– Temperature monitoringA sensor constantly monitors the lamp temperature.

1 Switching to the backup lampThe xenon light source has a lamp module containing two xenon lamps. The second lamp is used as backup lamp. Manually swivel in the backup lamp (Page 218) if it is used beyond its maximum service life of 500h (see chapter "Maintenance intervals" on Page 222).If the red segment (2) in the button (1) is lit, the backup lamp is operated.Keep the lamp module ready if you operate the backup lamp.If the backup lamp is operated, replace the lamp module in a timely manner (see Page 226) before it is used beyond its maximum service life of 500h (see chapter "Maintenance intervals on Page 222).

CAUTION Limited service life of the xenon lamp!

If used longer than the indicated service life of 500 hours the xenon lamp may fail or burst.Dropping fragments may contaminate the sterile area. Risk of infection.

• Change the lamp module on time.

LED light source

– Temperature monitoringA sensor constantly monitors the LED temperature.

1 LED error indicatorIf the amber LED is illuminated, the LED light source is in a limited oper-ating mode. In this case, the light intensity drops to 50%.

CAUTION LED equipment, laser class 2

The LED light source is a class 2 LED device according to IEC 60825-1:2001. According to EN 62471:2009 this light source is to be classified as belonging to the free group.

NOTE Varying color impression

The color temperature of the lamps differs. This can result in a changing color impression of the treatment / surgical field.

1 SIP labelThe SIP label contains the following information:

– Manufacturer (company name)

5 Transport position for the carrier arm flat screen monitorObserve the user manual or accompanying documentation.

Indicates the transport position of the carrier arm flat screen monitor. Be-fore transporting the system, make sure that the carrier arm flat screen monitor is in this position in order to avoid any damage.

6 "Maximum load" warning label on flat screen monitor bracketThe maximum load (accessory equipment) on the optional flat screen monitor bracket must not exceed 9 kg!

System overview

Surgical microscope The surgical microscope (4) enables the illumination and visual magnification of the field of view. For visual magnification, the surgical microscope can be equipped with different tubes, eyepieces and objective lenses.

S100 suspension system The S100 comes as a floor stand, ceiling mount or wall mount. It is also avail-able as a support unit and for adaptation to a Centro stand.

The S100 is used to control and supply the functions of the surgical micro-scope. It consists of a carrier arm (2), suspension arm (3) and supply unit (1) with light source. The suspension arm allows rough positioning of the surgical microscope and moving into standby position.

The S100 floor stand can be positioned in the OR by four controllable casters (5). The locking tabs of the casters prevent the system from being moved or rolling away unintentionally.

Light source Depending on the order, the device may be equipped with a halogen, xenon or LED light source. The halogen, xenon or LED light source is used to illumi-nate the surgical area. It has a fiber illumination in the surgical microscope, i. e. the light is directed from the light source via a light guide to the surgical microscope. The halogen, xenon or LED light source is situated in the lamp housing of the supply unit (1).

The halogen light source contains two halogen lamps. The second lamp is used as backup lamp.

The xenon light source produces light whose spectrum is similar to daylight. Regardless of the brightness setting, the color temperature of the light always remains the same. Normal daylight film without any additional conversion fil-ters can therefore be used for photographic documentation.The xenon light source contains a lamp module with two xenon lamps. The second lamp is used as backup lamp.

The LED light source has an integrated failure concept. In the event of a defect in the LED light source, the light intensity drops to 50% and the control lamp on the lamp housing lights up.

Use The MORA interface is intended exclusively for use on the OPMI pico surgical microscope in dentistry.

Description The MORA interface increases the microscope's mobility about its lateral tilt axis, without changing the user's upright, ergonomic seated posture.This offers advantages for the treatment of relatively large fields of therapy, e.g. when several teeth are being treated at once.A manually operated annular diaphragm permits the depth of field to be varied.

With maximum lateral tilt of the microscope body and high magnification, slight vignetting of the field of view may occur.

Controls of OPMI pico with Endoport

Use The Endoport endoscope port is intended for use on OPMI pico microscopes in ENT surgery.

Description The endoscope port of the OPMI pico Endoport is a standardized interface for endoscope cameras. This port permits an external endoscope camera with special adapter to be connected using the quick-action locking mechanism.

If you want to equip the surgical microscope with the Endoport accessory, please observe the requirements for system expansions, see Page 251.

Only attach external endoscope cameras including adapter with a maximum weight of 1.0 kg to the endoscope port.

The endoscope port always produces an image at infinity; for this reason, the external endoscope camera's focus must also be set at infinity. The procedure of focusing the endoscope camera at infinity is a camera-specific procedure and differs from camera type to camera type.

Microscope settings such as the focusing of the eyepieces do not affect the endoscope port.

2 Suspension armThe suspension arm is equipped with a switch. This switch activates the light source when the suspension arm is moved into its working position. The light source is switched off in the upper rest position.

Attachment of carrier arm flat screen monitor to the S100 floor stand (option)

It is possible to upgrade the S100 floor stand to a documentation workstation comprising documentation and display devices. Optionally, you can mount a carrier arm flat screen monitor and/or an instrument tray on the S100 floor stand. The carrier arm flat screen monitor and the instrument tray can be var-iably positioned up to a specific height (please refer to Page 116). It is also possible to additionally set the variable tilt of the carrier arm flat screen mon-itor. Thanks to these adjustment possibilities, this option provides you with a clearly arranged, ergonomic combination of the surgical microscope on the S100 floor stand as well as a documentation and display device.

Carrier arm flat screen monitor (1)

A flat screen or a touchscreen can be mounted on the carrier arm flat screen monitor. When mounted on the S100 floor stand, the carrier arm flat screen monitor has a maximum load capacity of 9 kg.

Instrument tray for a documentation device(2)

The instrument tray is used to carry a documentation device with a maximum weight of 13 kg, e.g. a video recorder.

Halogen light source

1 Ventilation gridDo not cover the ventilation grid!For example, drapes could be covering the screen. This could cause the in-tegrated thermal switch to turn off the light source.

2 FlapThe flap is used as the mechanical indicator for the operating status of the halogen lamps.

– When the flap is closed, the main lamp is operative.

– The open flap indicates that the backup lamp is being used.

3 Manual switching to the backup lamp The xenon light source has a lamp module containing two xenon lamps. The second lamp is used as backup lamp. Manually swivel in the backup lamp (Page 218) if it is used beyond its maximum service life of 500h (see also chapter "Maintenance intervals" on Page 222) or if the the first lamp fails.If the backup lamp is operated, keep a new lamp module ready for ex-change (Page 226).

4 Indicator: Backup lamp is in useIf the red segment (4) in the button (3) is lit, the backup lamp is operated.

The camera is delivered with a default configuration (factory settings).

7 ImageThe <freeze> button allows you to freeze the current live video image and to display it as a full-screen freeze frame on the video monitor. In the meantime the text "freeze" appears in the upper left corner.When you press the <live> key, the current live video image is displayed again on the monitor. The text "freeze" disappears.

8 Colors (integrated video camera live & streaming control unit)Use the <colors> key to go to the "Colors" menu (Page 186) where you can configure the color settings.

9 Live (integrated video camera live & streaming control unit)Closes all open dialogs, discontinues all actions except <record>. When you press the <live> key, the current live video image is displayed again on the monitor.

10 "Select" control keys (cursor keys)Use can use the control keys to navigate the menu. In addition, the cursor keys have special functions while an image is being displayed or a video is being played (Page 80).

12 Record buttonPress the <record> button to start a video recording. All open menus will be closed and an image display or video playback will be terminated. The video recording starts.In the footer bar the text "Rec" appears on the right before USB/LAN and the recording time appears on the left. The "record" indicator light (3) will light up. Press the <record> button to end a video recording. The text "Rec" and the recording time appears. The "record" indicator light (3) goes out.

13 Capture buttonImages can be created in live mode and during video recording or video playback. Press the <capture> button to trigger the image capture. The text "Capture" appears on the left in the header bar of the display.

The <Capture> button can be used to create individual images during video recording or playback.

14 Play buttonPress the <play> button to display the last image captured or to play the last video recorded.If the <play> button is pressed during video playback, the current display appears as a still image. The text "Pause" appears on the left in the header bar of the display. Press the <play> button again to continue playing the video.

15 Index buttonPress the <Index> button to open the index view of the files of the acti-vated patient. Use the control keys to select a video or image. A blue frame marks the respective selected file. Press the <index>, <config> or <live> button, to terminate the index view.

16 Function key (F1)The <function> key can be programmed individually (Page 190).

18 Right cursor key (next image/10% skip forward)With the right cursor key you can switch to the next image (in the list below, older) while an image is being displayed, and while a video is being played you can move forward 10% and continue playing the video from there.

Remote control is delivered as a standard feature with the integrated video camera live & streaming control unit with SW recording license. As an option, it is also available without a SW recording license with limited functions.

Configuring the surgical microscope

CAUTION Risk of injury due to sinking surgical microscope or due to dropping parts!

Mounting and removing modules and accessories may lead to unintended tilting of the surgical microscope. Parts or modules may drop. The suspension arm may be dropped or lifted. This may lead to personal injuries or to material damage.

• Please only use accessories approved by ZEISS.

• Never change modules and accessories during a surgical procedure or above the patient!

• Mount documentation accessories only in accordance with the appropri-ate instructions for use.

• After every change in configuration and before every use, make sure that the modules and accessories are securely locked in position.

• Make sure that all securing screws and locking screws are tightened firm-ly!

• Make sure not to exceed the maximum load capacity of the device during the installation of accessories and components.

• Readjust the balance of the suspension arm after every change of acces-sories (see Page 103).

• Readjust the adjustment screw for mobility. The adjustment screw has only a braking, no locking function.

WARNING Danger of tipping due to overloading!

The mounting and removal of accessories may lead to unintentional tipping of the surgical microscope.

• Make sure that the maximum permissible load on the suspension arm is not exceeded.

Mounting the surgical microscope

After you have mounted the OPMI pico, the suspension arm may move downwards. Prevent the OPMI pico from knocking against anything.The adjustment screw (1) on the suspension arm of the S100 suspension system only acts as a brake but has no locking function.

Without coupling

• Tighten adjustment screw (1) (braking function).

• Insert the shaft (5) into the the suspension arm's holding fixture.

• Screw in and tighten the safety screws (2) and (4).

• The safety screw (2) contains a hex socket head screw (3), which is an ad-ditional safety screw. Tighten it.

Including 120° coupling

• Tighten adjustment screw (1)(braking function).

• Insert the shaft (6) into the mount of the suspension arm.

• Screw in and tighten the safety screws (2) and (4).

• The safety screw (2) contains a hex socket head screw (3). This is an addi-tional safety screw. Tighten it.

• Insert shaft (5) into the holding fixture of the coupling. Position and tight-en the safety screws (7) and (8).

• Securing screw (8) contains a hex socket head screw (9) which is an addi-tional securing screw. Tighten it.

Including K 0/120 coupling

We recommend using the K 0/120 coupling for gynecological procedures. This makes it possible to shift the working area downwards by 115 mm.

• Tighten adjustment screw (1)(braking function).

• Insert the shaft (10) into the the suspension arm's holding fixture.

• Screw in securing screws (2) and (4). Tighten it.

• Securing screw (2) contains a hex socket head screw (3) which is an addi-tional securing screw. Tighten it.

• Insert shaft (5) into the holding fixture of the coupling. Position and tight-en the safety screws (11).

Dismantling the surgical microscope

Move the suspension arm into its upper position before dismantling the surgical microscope. While the surgical microscope is dismounted, the suspension arm may shoot up by its own spring force despite tightened locking screw.

Without coupling

• Tighten adjustment screw (1)(braking function).

• Hold the surgical microscope securely while loosening the safety screws.

• Loosen safety screw (3).

• Loosen and remove the safety screws (2) and (4).

• Remove the surgical microscope.

Including 120° coupling

• Tighten adjustment screw (1)(braking function).

• Hold onto the surgical microscope firmly.

• Loosen safety screw (9).

• Loosen and remove the safety screws (7) and (8).

• Remove the surgical microscope.

Mounting the tube, eyepieces and objective lens

• Give securing screw (2) a few turns to loosen it.

• Remove dust cover (3) and store it in a safe place.

• Position binocular tube (4) on the surgical microscope and tighten secur-ing screw firmly (2). The straight binocular tube is shown here as an ex-ample.

• You can install further accessories between the binocular tube and the microscope body. Fasten these assemblies in the same way using the securing screw (2).

• Insert eyepieces (5) in the mounts provided on the binocular tube as far as they will go. The magnetic coupling reliably secures them in position.If required, use the sleeves supplied.

• Screw the objective lens (1) into the microscope body and tighten it firmly.

Mounting the hand grips

Five handgrips are available for the OPMI pico surgical microscope (see Page 58).

The handgrips can be positioned as required by reinserting (2) or pressing them together (1).

• Select the handgrip suitable for your application.

• Mount the handgrip supplied with the instrument. Firmly tighten the screw(s).

Connecting the light guide

• Switch off the light source.

• Put the light guide into the light guide socket on the light source and on the surgical microscope until it locks.

• Make sure that the light guide has been routed with sufficient slack. Sup-port system and surgical microscope must be movable within the com-plete area without the light guide being stretched, excessively bent or twisted.

Connecting an endoscope camera

If you want to equip the surgical microscope with an endoscope camera, please observe the requirements for system expansions, see Page 251.

Prerequisites Your OPMI pico has been equipped with the "Endoport" accessory com-ponent:

Your endoscope camera, including adapter, does not weigh more than 1.0 kg.

• Focus the endoscope camera at infinity.

The procedure of focusing the endoscope camera at infinity is a camera-specific procedure and differs from camera type to camera type.Microscope settings such as the focusing of the eyepieces do not affect the endoscope port.

• Remove the cover from the endoscope port.

• Attach your endoscope camera to the endoscope port and allow the quick-action lock to snap in.

• Connect the video cable of the endoscope camera to the endoscope sys-tem. Please also observe the information contained in the user's manual on the endoscope system.

• Adjust the orientation of the image on the video monitor. To achieve this, turn the endoscope camera in the endoscope port as required.

Mounting the beam splitter

• Unscrew securing screw (3) by a few turns.

• Remove the inclined tube (1).

• Position the beam splitter (2) on the surgical microscope.

• Firmly tighten securing screw (5).

• Position the inclined tube (1) on the beam splitter (2) and tightenthe se-curing screw (3) firmly.

Mounting the co-observation module

• Loosen knurled ring (4).

• Remove the dust cover (6) from the holding fixture of the beam splitter (2) and store it in a safe place.

• Slide the stereo co-observation module (7) into the holding fixture. Make sure that the locating block is fed into the counterpart of knurled ring (4).

• Firmly tighten knurled ring (4).

• Mount a tube (8) on the stereo co-observation module (7).

After having mounted the accessories, you must perform a weight compen-sation procedure (see Page 103).

Mounting the MORA interface

• Give securing screw (3) a few turns to loosen it.

• Remove the dust cover and store it in a safe place.

• Place MORA interface (7) on the surgical microscope and firmly tighten se-curing screw (3).

• Insert binocular tube (5) into the mount of MORA interface (7) and tighten securing screw (6).

• Tilt the microscope body by approx. 25° to the left or right and lock it in the required position using friction screw (2).

• Set ring diaphragm (4) to meet your specific requirements.

Mounting documentation accessories on the MORA interface with lateral out-put port

Requirement The MORA interface with lateral port for documentation accessories has been mounted on the surgical microscope.

The method described below can also be used for other accessories. The op-erating principle of the accessories is described in the relevant Instructions for Use.

• Loosen knurled ring (2). An arrow with the labeling "open" is located on the shaft next to knurled ring (2).

• Remove dust cover (3) and store it in a safe place.

• Slide the accessories (4) in the image exit port holding fixture .The mount of the image exit port is fitted with guide projections. Acces-sory (4) has the corresponding grooves.

• Carefully turn the accessory module until the guide projections fit into the grooves,

• and slide the accessory in the mount as far as it will go.

• Screw knurled ring (2) onto accessory module (3).

• Firmly tighten knurled ring (2).

If the accessory is mounted with the connector pointing vertically up-wards, the image of the connected camera will be displayed with a 90° rotation.

• To avoid this, you can mount the accessory rotated by 90° so that the con-nector (incl. camera) points horizontally to the back.

• Note the effect of annular diaphragm (1) swung into the beam path.

Setting the suspension arm weight compensation

• Do not perform balance setting until the surgical microscope and all ac-cessories have been mounted!

• The maximum load on the suspension arm must not exceed 7 kg.

• Loosen the friction adjustment screw (1) of the suspension arm.

• Insert an 8 mm hex key into opening (3) of the articulated joint cover (2).

• Use the hex key to turn balance adjustment screw (4) until balance has been achieved.

• Check the balance setting in several positions.

• Using the braking screw (1) adjust the required mobility of the lifting movement of the suspension arm.

NOTE Perform the weight compensation

• Perform a weight compensation (balancing) before using the device (not above the patient and with a secure distance to other persons and devic-es) so that the surgical microscope remains in its position within the working area.

Adjusting the surgical microscope

Adjustment instructions

– In order to be able to quickly set/adjust the surgical microscope, it is ad-visable to save the interocular distance as well as the refraction values for the different users so they can be preset within the scope of the prepara-tions.

– Do not wear multifocal or varifocal glasses during the adjustment process or when working with the microscope later on.Such glasses make a proper diopter adjustment ring setting impossible and result in unsatisfactory imaging.

– Optimum image clarity in the eyepieces and at the optical port for docu-mentation equipment (photo, video) can only be achieved through careful focusing and precisely adjusting the binocular tube.

• Move the microscope to a vertical position above a flat object, e.g. a sheet of paper with writing.

• Adjust the distance of the eyepieces at the binocular tube to your interoc-ular distance so that the two eyepiece images (object and edge of visual field) merge into one.

Adjusting the eyepieces The following procedure must be performed separately for each eyepiece in the order described.

• Set the microscope to minimum magnification.

• Set the diopter adjustment ring at the eyepiece to zero position.

• Look through the eyepiece and move the microscope body to focus the image.

• Set the microscope to maximum magnification and adjust the fine focus-ing system until the image is sharply defined.

• Then reset the microscope to minimum magnification without changing the working distance.

• Set the diopter adjustment ring at the eyepiece to its maximum value (plus direction).

• Look through the eyepiece and slowly turn the diopter adjustment ring to the minus direction until the image is sharply defined.

• Repeat the entire procedure for the second eyepiece.

The microscope is now adjusted in such a way that the image is sharply defined over the complete magnification range without any renewed fo-cusing during the magnification setting.If this is not the case, repeat the procedure.

Adjusting the eyecups • Adjust the eyecups of the eyepieces in such a way that the entire visual field can be seen.

– Viewing with eyeglasses: Rotate eyecups inwards.

– Viewing without eyeglasses: Rotate eyecups outwards.

Adjusting the working distance and magnification

• Position the microscope above the surgical field so as to ensure conven-ient work.

• Roughly focus on the object by changing the distance between microscope and object.

• Set the microscope to maximum magnification and adjust the fine focus-ing system until the image is sharply defined.

• Set the microscope to the required magnification. The focal plane is re-tained in this process.

Relocating the S100 floor stand

Please observe the following points when relocating the suspension system:

• Turn off the device at the power switch.

• Remove the power plug from the wall socket.

• Disconnect the video cable between the video modules (e.g. video moni-tor, video recorder) and the camera control unit (CCU).

• Adjust the flat screen (optional) to a secure transport position.

• Do not transport the device by pulling or pushing on the optional flat screen!

• Avoid any uncontrolled swiveling of the optional flat screen.

• Swing the suspension arm into the transport position.

• Unlock all arrestors of the casters.

• Hold the system by the marked position on the stand column and carefully push it along. Make sure that the system is positioned on level ground.

• Press at least two of the arrestors and make sure that the suspension sys-tem is no longer able to roll away by itself.

The mass may be underestimated as the suspension system can be smoothly moved. Therefore, move the suspension system slowly and carefully!

CAUTION Risk of crushing and toppling during transportation of the system!

If the following precautions are not observed, the floor stand may topple over and injure persons!

• Move the floor stand into its transport position.

• To safely move the system, always hold the stand column at the position marked with a label.

CAUTION Risk of crushing - mind your fingers!

• Do not touch these areas while the system is being moved or brought into its working / transport position.

Transport over long distances

• Only transport the device over long distances (e.g. relocation, return for repair) in its original packaging or special return packaging. Please contact your dealer or ZEISS Service.

CAUTION Damaging of the suspension system!

It is possible that the suspension system is damaged due to a collision with other devices, parts may drop down and cause personal injuries.

• Check the device for damage before each operation.

• Move the suspension system carefully and avoid collisions.If the suspension system nevertheless collides with other devices, you must have it checked by ZEISS Service.

Connecting the S100 floor stand

• Ensure that the rated voltage indicated in the display window (3) (only for halogen/xenon) corresponds with the rated voltage for the network at the site of the installation.

• Ensure that the unit has been switched off at the power switch before plugging in or unplugging connectors at the power input socket (4).

• Make sure that power switch (1) is OFF.

• Plug the supplied power cord on the supply unit into the power inlet sock-et (4).

• Connect the power cord via a socket to the power supply system.

CAUTION Risk of electric shock caused by inadmissible or defective accessories!

Inadmissible or defective accessories may lead to increased leakage current!

• Never touch any power outlets or video ports during patient contact.

• When setting up your system, make sure to comply with the require-ments of IEC 60601-1:2005, chapter 16; in some countries IEC 60601-1-1:2000 may still be valid.

• Also comply with the Medical Device Operator Ordinance or other na-tional codes.

NOTE Risk of tripping!

Inappropriate routing of cables increases the risk of tripping.

• Always run cables in a manner that will not impede the user's move-ments.

CAUTION Risk of electric shock

Risk of electric shock for operator and patient if cables and plug connections loosen and if housing parts are under voltage.

• Only connect the power cord using a socket with proper protective earth connection.

Connecting the integrated HD video camera

• Switch off the device before plugging or unplugging the system cable into the video unit. The camera may be damaged if the cable is plugged/un-plugged while voltage is still being applied.

If you have an HD compatible S100 / OPMI pico, use an HD compatible mon-itor that can show the resolution of the HD video camera 720P and 1080P with 50 Hz and 60 Hz.If you use another monitor, no video image will be shown.

• Slide the dust cover (3) on the system cable (camera side). Make sure that the thread faces the connector plug on the camera side.

• Connect the camera head (1) of the surgical microscope to the camera control unit (CCU) (5) using the included system cable (4).

• Screw the dust cover (3) into the thread (2).Make sure not to screw on the dust cover (3) crookedly. This may damage the thread!

• Firmly tighten screws on the camera head connector.

CAUTION Video images not for diagnostic purposes!

The visualized images may include deviations in scale, shape and color.

• Do not use video images for diagnostic purposes as the video camera is not calibrated for these purposes.

• Connect the required video components using the video cable.

• Check the camera and monitor function. After switching the device on, a color bar pattern is briefly displayed for checking the color setting, bright-ness and geometry.If the color bar pattern is permanently shown, the camera head of the vid-eo unit is disconnected, unplugged or defective.

Connecting the computer to integrated video camera live & streaming Control unit with LAN connection

You can connect the integrated video camera live & streaming control unit with LAN connection to a computer . Observe the conditions for system ex-tension (see Page 251).

The network cable is available as an accessory (see Accessories). Optional software is not included in our delivery package.

System requirements Computer with LAN connection: Network at least 100 Mbit

Requirements for connecting the network computer:

– You will need administrator rights for the network computer.

– You will need the Ethernet data of the archiving PC to configure the network share.

– You can obtain the data required for this purpose from the appropri-ate IT administrator.

Video software

• Connect the computer with the corresponding network cable with the LAN connection on the video unit (on the stand).

Attachment of instrument tray and carrier arm flat screen monitor to the S100 floor stand

Ergonomic positioning the carrier arm flat screen monitor and instrument tray

In order to ergonomically position carrier arm flat screen monitor (2) and in-strument tray (3), loosen the adapter (1), adjust side and height and screw it tight again:

Instrument tray • Hold the instrument tray with one hand and unscrew the four locking screws at the adapter (1) with a few turns using the hex key until the adapter (1) can easily be moved.

• Position instrument tray (3) in the required height (max. 800 mm above the floor) and uniformly tighten (2.1 Nm) all four locking screws of adapter (1) using the hex key.

• When attaching adapter (1), make sure the two components of the adapter (1) are separated by the same distance (4) from top to bottom.

Carrier arm flat screen monitor • Hold the carrier arm flat screen monitor with one hand and unscrew the four locking screws at the adapter (1) with a few turns using the hex key until the adapter (1) can easily be moved.

• Position the carrier arm flat screen monitor (2) in the required height (max. 1230 mm above the floor) and uniformly tighten (2.1 Nm) all four locking screws of adapter (1) using the hex key.

• When attaching adapter (1), make sure the two components of the adapter (1) are separated by the same distance (4) from top to bottom.

NOTE Overload of the instrument tray!

When overloaded, the instrument tray may break off or bend, the suspension system may topple over and accessories may fall down.

• Make sure that the accessory equipment is positioned as securely as pos-sible on the instrument tray.

• The instrument tray may be loaded with the maximum weight of 13 kg.

Mounting the flat screen

Before mounting a flat screen on the carrier arm flat screen monitor, make sure it meets the following specifications:

– Compliance with VESA standard (Video Electronics Standards Associa-tion):

– 75 mm x 75 mm hole spacing or

– 100 mm x 100 mm hole spacing

– Maximum total weight of the flat screen: 9 kg

• Press flat screen (3) against the carrier arm so that the holes in the carrier arm (2) coincide with those provided in the flat screen.

• Firmly tighten screws (1).

Cable routing in the carrier arm flat screen monitor

• Remove the clamping plate (5) from the cover plate (6) on the underside of the carrier arm flat screen monitor.

• Place all connecting cables required for the monitor in the cable guide (4). Leave sufficient cable loops in order to freely position the monitor without damaging cables or plugs.

• Attach the clamping plate (5) to the cover plate (6) again.

NOTE Overload of the carrier arm flat screen monitor!

When overloaded, the carrier arm flat screen monitor may break off or bend or the suspension system may topple over.

• The monitor bracket may be loaded with the maximum weight of 9 kg.

Routing the cables and making the electrical connections

• Route the power and data cables parallel to each other.

• Run the cables through the existing cable holders down to the stand base.

• Make sure that the cable loops (1) are large enough to allow the devices to be positioned freely without cables or connectors being damaged. This applies in particular to the area of the joints of the flat screen monitor bracket.

• Route the cables in a bundle along the column down to the stand base.

• Fix the cables to the column of the floor stand using cable ties.

– To ensure optimum performance, we recommend having the electrical in-stallation performed by the ZEISS Service or a professional electrician (in-house electrician).

• Place cable cover (2) over the cables on the column.

• Only connect the power cord to wall outlets which are equipped with a properly connected protective earth conductor.

CAUTION Risk of patient injury caused by electrical voltage!

• Do not touch the power outlet socket or other signal interfaces while in contact with the patient.

Adjusting the carrier arm flat screen monitor

After mounting the carrier arm flat screen monitor, you can adjust the friction of its joints as required. The factory setting of the joints is suitable for a me-dium load capacity which meets the requirements of most users. If one joint is set too stiffly or too freely, it is possible to adjust the friction.

Adjusting the tilt function of the carrier arm flat screen monitor

• Check the tilt function of the monitor joint (upward/downward move-ment).

• Use the tool supplied to increase or reduce the friction of the joint as re-quired.

Preparing the system for sterile use

Attach asepsis caps and drapes

Attaching asepsis caps

For sterile use, the system can be equipped with resterilizable products. The asepsis sets available from ZEISS contain caps and handgrips which can be sterilized in autoclaves. For detailed information on sterilization, please refer to the enclosed instructions "Preparation of resterilizable products" for the re-spective asepsis sets.

Attaching the drapes

To ensure sterile covering of the system, it is also possible to use the single-use drapes.

When attaching the sterile drapes, make sure there is enough slack in the drapes to allow for movement of the microscope carrier and surgical mi-croscope. It is especially important that the drapes are completely loose around the handgrips. The surgeon must be able to reliably operate the controls through the drape.

CAUTION Risk of infection caused by contamination!

• Only use the system with suitable, sterile accessories.

CAUTION Risk of infection caused by contaminated asepsis accessories!

• Only use sterile asepsis accessories suitable for the device!

• Clean, disinfect and sterilize asepsis accessories before each use. This also applies to the first use after delivery.

• Make sure that the operating staff is briefed about the sterile operation of the device.

• Before each use of the surgical microscope, check whether the asepsis caps are firmly attached to the surgical microscope.

NOTE Overheating as a result of covering ventilation openings!

• Never cover any ventilation openings, e.g. with drapes! This may cause the light source to overheat and lead to lamp failure.

Powering the system up and down

Prerequisites The correct rated voltage has been set on the suspension system (please refer to Page 108).

The included power cord (floor stand) is connected (please refer to Page 108).

The light guide is connected (please refer to Page 98).

Proceed as follows to power the system up and down:

• Press the power switch (1) on the suspension system.

Before starting to work with the system, you have to perform a function test (see next page). This permits you to check the system configuration and user-specific settings and to reconfigure them, if necessary.

Function test of the surgical microscope

• Before every use, make sure that all components and installed accessories are securely locked in position. Pay attention to the maximum load capac-ity.

• Check the unobstructed movement of the surgical microscope:

All cables and accessories have been mounted such a way that the surgical microscope can be positioned safely and without causing damage.

• Check the eyepieces / binocular tube / object lens:

The surgical microscope and the tube are in an ergonomic position.

The interocular distance (pupillary distance) has been correctly set (please refer to Page 104).

The eyecups have been adjusted in such a way that you can see the full visual field (please refer to Page 104).

Verify that the correct prescription has been set on the diopter scale (please refer to Page 104).

Image quality is correct throughout the entire magnification range.

Object lens and eyepieces are clean.

• Check the function of the magnification changer.

• Check the function of the filter selector knob.

NOTE Failure recognized too late!

• To avoid the occurrence of any defects during surgery, perform a system test before every surgical procedure (without patient)!

NOTE Impairment of proper functioning due to malfunction!

If a function fails, do not use the system for safety reasons.

• Repair the cause of the failure (see "What to do in the event of malfunc-tions"“) or contact ZEISS Service or the authorized partner.

Function test of the accessories

• Check the accessories:

The securing screws of the video system cable have been firmly tight-ened.

The correct function of the other equipment has been checked with the relevant user manual.

Function test of S100 suspension systems

• Check correct balancing:

When fully balanced, the surgical microscope should remain stationary in all positions within the work area and move neither upward nor downward (see Page 103).

The friction of the suspension arm, the carrier arm and the 120° cou-pling (if used) has been set as required.

• Make sure that the securing screws have been firmly tightened (see Page 66).

• Check the lamp brightness:

The lamp brightness can be varied (see Page 70). Brightness variation has an effect on the surgical field illumination.

• Check the unobstructed movement of the system (floor stand only):

The system has been positioned in such a way that it can be moved away from the patient at any time.

• Check the stand for secure positioning (floor stand only):

Press at least two of the locking tabs to prevent the stand from start-ing to move by itself.

• Check light source halogen / xenon / LED.

The main and backup lamp are intact in the halogen light source.

Main and backup lamp are intact in the xenon light source.In case of exceeding the maximum service life of 500h of the main lamp and the backup lamp is in operation, have a backup lamp module available for replacement purposes as precaution (see Page 226). For the order number, please see the chapter "Device data".

With the LED light source, the amber LED is not illuminated.

It is possible to switch on or off the halogen, xenon or LED light source by moving up and down the suspension arm. The light source is turned on within the preset working area. The light source is turned off in the upper resting position.

WARNING Function deterioration of the light source

With increasing service life of the light source, the actual illumination inten-sity decreases (this is a normal property of the system).

• Before every use, ensure that the available light quantity is sufficient.

• Have a backup light source (e.g. surgical lamp) available.

In case of a halogen light source: • If necessary, exchange the lamp (see Page 224).

Check the set brightness after the lamp exchange.

If you already work with the backup lamp, be sure to replace the slide-in lamp module (see Page 226). Check the set brightness after every lamp replacement.

Typical procedure

Starting work

• During surgical procedures in the facial area, the patients must wear tint-ed UV protective eyewear (ordering data see Page 251).

All preparations for use have been completed.

• Check the system for proper function. The process is described in chapter "Operation - Function test before use".

• Turn on the device with the power switch of the suspension system.

• Select the filter suitable for your application in the illumination beam path.

• Adjust the brightness on the suspension system. Start with the lowest brightness and slowly increase it to the required but not more than the al-lowed brightness.

• When focusing, make sure to carefully lower the surgical microscope and observe the working distance from the patient. The working distance ap-proximately corresponds to the focal length of the object lens used.

• For focusing, move the surgical microscope over the surgical field into an ergonomic position within the working distance.

• Select the magnification required using the changer button.

• Look through the eyepieces and lower the surgical microscope until the surgical field comes into focus. This is to achieve focusing. Ensure a suffi-cient safety distance to the patient.

• Look through the eyepieces of the binocular tube. Adjust the eyepieces in such a way that you can see both the edge of the visual field and the mi-croscope image sharply. Also refer to "Adjusting the surgical microscope".

CAUTION Damage to the eye caused by high light intensity!

During surgical procedures in the facial area, no light must enter the patient's eye.

• Make sure to protect the patient's eye from light radiation.

CAUTION Danger of burnings

Patient may be burnt if the microscope is unattended targeted to the patient with the light source switched on.

• Never leave the device unattended with the light source switched on.

During the initial start of the surgical microscope with integrated HD video camera, the sub menu "APPLICATION VARIANT" will be displayed for the first time (see Page 163).The application is set in this menu.ZEISS Service adjusts this setting for you during initial start-up. You can read-just this setting in the "INSTALLATION MENU". see “Opening the installation menu (config)” on Page 155.

Opening the configuration menu (config)

The configuration menu allows you to make user-specific settings, such as se-lecting a user or setting the brightness / color saturation.

User sub menu

You can select among four different user profiles in the "USER SELECTION" submenu: USER 1, USER 2, USER 3, USER 4

The user names and their configuration depend on the selected application. The latter can be selected as required when switching on the device for the first time and can be subsequently changed at any time.

– The "OPHTHALMOLOGY" application has the "POSTERIOR" userinstead of USER 1 and the "ANTERIOR" user instead of USER 2.

– Instead of USER 1, the "DENTRISTRY" application has user"ENDODONTY" and user "TREATMENT" instead of USER 2.

– The Anterior, Posterior, Endodonty and Treatment user have optimized settings.

– The video image is displayed in its unaltered condition (standard) for the Anterior user.

– The video image is rotated 180°(ROTATE) for the Posterior user.

– The video image is displayed in its unaltered condition (standard) for the Endodonty user.

– The video image is displayed in its unaltered condition (standard) for the Treatment user.

The white balance is user-specific. This allows User 1, for example, to save a different white balance than User 2. When changing users, the white balance value is loaded for the other user. This requires that the light source is also changed because, otherwise, the colors would be distorted. Therefore, white balancing should always be carried out with the light source to be used for the particular user.

Proceed as follows to select a user and to load and activate the respective con-figuration:

Brightness submenu

In the "BRIGHTNESS" sub menu, you can select between three different expo-sure controls: AUTOMATIC - LOW LIGHT AUTO - MANUAL

AUTOMATIC In this mode the camera adjusts the brightness of the video image automati-cally to the value specified by the <brightness> keys and . Exposure con-trol affects the exposure time of the camera.

The nominal brightness is set in the AUTOMATIC mode. The camera controls the exposure time in the range between 1/50(60)s and 1/10000s. The expo-sure time currently selected is not displayed on the monitor. The nominal brightness can be adjusted between 0 and 100%. Changes are made in 5% increments.

A required value in the range between 50% and 70% usually provides op-timum exposure results.

LOW AUTO This mode has the same function as AUTOMATIC mode, however, exposure times longer than 1/50 (60)s are allowed, which can result in blurred move-ments.

MANUAL In this mode the exposure time selected is displayed when the control keys are pressed. The setting range extends from 1/6 to 1/10000.

– Increments for PAL: 1/10000, 1/4000, 1/2000, 1/1000, 1/500, 1/250, 1/100, 1/50, 1/25, 1/12 and 1/6

– Increments for NTSC: 1/10000, 1/4000, 1/2000, 1/1000, 1/500, 1/250, 1/120, 1/60, 1/30, 1/15 and 1/8

Greater exposure times can result in blurred movements.The set time disappears from the screen again if the <brightness> key or

was not pressed longer than 2 seconds.

Lightmeter sub menu

In the "LIGHTMETER" sub menu, you can select between three different types of exposure measurements: INTEGRAL, SMALL SPOT or LARGE SPOT.

The Lightmeter function is only enabled if Brightness is set to the AUTO-MATIC" or "LOW LIGHT AUTO" mode.

INTEGRAL: The exposure is measured and averaged across the full video image. This measurement is recommended for surgical fields that are fully and evenly lit.

LARGE SPOT: The exposure is measured in an area in the image center. This measurement is ideal for working with an eclipsed surgical field edge (resulting from a re-duced illuminated field diameter).

SMALL SPOT: The exposure is measured in a very small area in the image center. This meas-urement is suitable for work in narrow channels when an extremely small illu-minated field diameter is being used.

However, if the object of interest is not located in the image center, the SMALL SPOT setting usually does not provide the desired exposure result. In this case, select either a larger area (INTEGRAL or LARGE SPOT) or use the manual exposure mode.

Recommended color setting

The depiction of the color on the monitor is dependent on the individual viewer's preferences.

Therefore, 2 standard color settings are outlined here:

– More subtle color impression

– Stronger color impression (preferred, e.g. in Asian part of the world)

The shown color settings were ascertained using a brightness setting of 55%, (see ).

The color settings were ascertained on an 24" NDS ENDOVUE monitor with factory settings.

Description of the setting options

CHROMA The camera's color saturation is intensified or reduced using the "Chroma" setting.

COLOR ANGLE With the "Color Angle" setting (frequently also: HUE), you can change the color angle as well as the hues of the camera.

BLACK LEVEL You can set the blackness value of the camera with the "Black Level" setting. Reducing the black level generates a higher degree of contrast. Increasing a value means that dark details are easier to recognize.

ZOOM LEVEL The camera image can be magnified electronically using the "Zoom Level" set-ting.

PEAK / AVERAGE The setting "Peak / Average" is used to modify the lighting control character-istics. A lower value results in peak value-based lighting control, which re-sponds precisely to changes in the project brightness. A higher value sets mean value-based lighting control, which responds less sensitively to changes in brightness.

RED submenu In this submenu, you can set the red value of the camera in a range from -20 to +20. To do this, proceed as follows:

• Select menu item "RED" in the "ADVANCED" menu using the control keys and press the "enter" key.

• Select the "SETTINGS" menu item with the control keys.

– FREEZE / LIVEIf the current live video image is displayed and the foot switch is pressed, the live video image is frozen and displayed on the monitor as a freeze frame. With renewed pressing of the foot switch the live video image is displayed again.

– USER1 / USER2 (or Endodonty/Treatment or Anterior/Posterior)You can switch between user 1 and user 2 by pressing the foot switch. If the current user is neither user 1 nor user 2, user 1 is switched on with the first activation of the foot switch.

– USER3 / USER4You can switch between user 3 and user 4 by pressing the foot switch. If the current user is neither user 3 nor user 4, user 1 is switched on with the first activation of the foot switch.

– INVERTED / STANDARD (is only required with a special tube)If the current live video image is displayed and the foot switch is pressed, the live video image is frozen and displayed on the monitor as a freeze frame. With renewed pressing of the foot switch the live video image is displayed again.

You can select under "SWITCHING MODE" if a remote function shall be con-trolled via a foot switch or a fundus imaging system. The following control types are available:

– FOOTSWITCH / AUXFunction control is performed via a foot switch.

– FUNDUS SYSTEMThe function is controlled via a fundus imaging system. This setting is only available under the "OPHTHALMOLOGY" application.

FACTORY SETTINGS This submenu allows resetting the user and camera settings to the factory set-tings. To do this, proceed as follows:

• In the "SERVICE ", use the control keys to select menu item "FACTORY SETTINGS" and press the "enter" key.

• Use the control keys to select one of the following items:

– RESET USER 1

– RESET ALL USERS

– RESET CAMERA

After selection of one of the menu items, a message informs you that the stored data will be overwritten.

• Press the "enter" key to overwrite the settings.

The system returns to the SERVICE MENU after approx. 2 seconds.

• If you do not want to save any changes, select menu item "CANCEL" to return to the SERVICE MENU.

VERSION INFORMATION This submenu shows the current versions of the hardware and software com-ponents as well as the serial numbers of the camera and CCU. Proceed as fol-lows:

• Select menu item "VERSION INFORMATION" and press the "enter" key. The following information is displayed:

HDTV sub menu

The "HDTV MODE" sub menu allows you to select the video camera's input signal and adjust it to your display device.

720P Select this setting format if your display device is 720p compatible. This mode is similar to the 1080p progressive standard, but its maximum resolution is only 1280 x 720 pixels.

1080P* Select this setting if your display device is 1080p compatible. The image is set up using real full frames. This prevents any interline flicker, and the image is sharply defined and stable. The maximum resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels.

1080I* Use the 1080i (interlace) mode if your display device supports the 1080i standard. The image is set up by two consecutive half images. The delayed image setup can cause slight interline flicker. The maximum resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels.

As a requirement, you should have connected the HD compatible OPMI pico with a 1080p version and a 1080p or 1080i compatible display device. We recommend the use of a 1080p compatible display device.

Proceed as follows to select a mode and to load the respective configuration:

• Press the <config> key for approx. 5 seconds to access the installation menu.

• Select the menu item "HDTV MODE" in the installation menu using the control keys and press the <enter> key.

The following menu appears:

In order to use the optional 1080p resolution, a 1080p compatible display de-vice must be connected.

• Select the desired mode with the control keys.

The selected choice is displayed with an arrow.

At the lower end of the screen, it is explained which video signal is at which video output.

• Press the <enter> key to save the changes.

If no 1080p compatible display device is connected, the display re-mains black and the HDTV sub menu is displayed again after approx. 30 seconds. No changes have been made.

If a 1080p compatible display device is connected, the prompt "APPLY CHANGES" appears.

• Select YES or NO with the control keys and confirm the selection with the <enter> key.

When you chose "YES", the camera resolution is changed and you go back to the installation menu.

DVI/HDMI OUT submenu

The "DVI/HDMI OUTPUT" allows switching between video formats "PC MODE" and "VIDEO MODE" when a high-resolution display device (monitor, projector, etc.) is connected. To do this, proceed as follows:

• Press the "config" key for approx. 5 seconds to access the installation menu.

• Select menu item "DVI/HDMI OUT" in the installation menu using the control keys and press the "enter" key.

The following menu appears

• Use the control keys to select the required mode.

The selection is displayed with an arrow.

The properties of each format are explained at the bottom of the screen.

• Press the "enter" key to save the changes.

The selection is saved and you return to the installation menu.

• If you do not want to save any changes, select menu item "CANCEL" to return to the installation menu. The video format is set as it was when the submenu was accessed.

You can find the correct setting for your connected monitor or TV in the user manual pertaining to the device.If you cannot find any information on the right setting, we recommend the PC MODE (default) setting for display devices with DVI port. We recommend the VIDEO MODE setting for display devices with HDMI port.

SDTV FORMAT submenu

If a conventional display device (monitor, projector, etc.) with 4:3 format is connected, the "SDTV FORMAT" submenu allows you to choose between "LETTERBOX" and "SIDE-CUT" visualization.

LETTERBOX Use this setting for display devices that are not compatible with the 16:9 wide screen format. A black bar will appear at the top and bottom of the screen and the image will be displayed in the 16:9 format.

SIDE-CUT In this mode, the sides of the image will be "cut", leaving the center of the image to be displayed with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Proceed as follows to select a format and to load the respective configuration:

• Press the "config" key for approx. 5 seconds to access the installation menu.

• Select menu item "SDTV FORMAT MODE" in the installation menu using the control keys and press the "enter" key.

The following menu appears:

• Use the control keys to select the required mode.

The selection is displayed with an arrow.

The properties of each format are explained at the bottom of the screen.

• Press the "enter" key to save the changes.

The selection is saved. The camera restarts after you have confirmed that the setting is to be applied.

• If you do not want to save any changes, select menu item "CANCEL" to return to the installation menu. As a result, the image display on the screen will be reset to the setting present when the submenu was opened.

Application submenu

In the "APPLICATION" submenu, you can select between five different appli-cations. Each application affects the user profile and the associated camera settings.

The application selection is displayed when the device is switched on for the first time and can be changed at any time. The selected application is dis-played briefly during start-up. The following applications can be selected:

DENTISTRY This application is designed for displaying the best image in the lower or upper tooth segment. The "ENDODONTY" and "TREATMENT" users have optimized and defined settings for the brightness control. This is why the "BRIGHTNESS" and "LIGHTMETER" menu items are not available to these users.

NEURO/SPINE This application is designed for displaying the image in the neurological area. The difference refers to the camera settings as well as to the not selectable image orientation.

ENT This application id for the imaging of the neck, nose, ear area. The differences can be found in regard of the camera settings and the adjusted image section.

OPHTHALMOLOGY This application is designed for displaying the image in the ophthalmological area. The "ANTERIOR" and "POSTERIOR" users are available for displaying the best image in the anterior or posterior eye segment. Both users have fixed set-tings for the brightness control. This is why the "BRIGHTNESS" and "LIGHT-METER" menu items are not available to these users.

Performing the white balance (white bal)

In the white balancing procedure, the system adjusts the video signal in such a way that white areas in the surgical field are also white on the video image.

• Press the <start> key to activate the white balance procedure.

The following message is displayed: "PLEASE PUT A PIECE OF WHITE PAPER UNDER THE MICROSCOPE"

• Place a suitable white object (e. g., a piece of white paper with a matte surface) under the surgical microscope.

• Carry out the white balance procedure using a medium brightness level.

• Press the <start> key to start the white balance procedure.During the white balance procedure (display: "WHITE BALANCE IN PROGRESS") the key functions are locked.

If the white balance procedure is successfully completed, the following will be displayed: "WHITE BALANCE SUCCESSFUL". Otherwise, the following mes-sage is displayed on the monitor: "WHITE BALANCE FAILED". Check the set-tings described above and repeat the white balance procedure.

The white balance is saved for the user currently selected. When the user is changed, the white balance values pertaining to that user are loaded.

After the white balance procedure is completed, all keys are enabled again. The determined values are saved and are available to all users each time the device is restarted.

White balance is adjusted corresponding to the set light type. The adjustment depends on the "LIGHT SOURCE" setting in the "INSTALLATION MENU" and the BLUE and RED settings in the "USER MENU ADVANCED".

Setting the brightness

Under "brightness" you can adjust the brightness of the video image in 5% increments between 0% and 100% using the and keys. The value set appears in the upper left corner of the monitor.

In the configuration menu, you can select between three different modes in the brightness menu: AUTO - LOW AUTO - MANUAL.

AUTO

In AUTO mode the camera adjusts the brightness of the video image automat-ically to the value specified by the and control keys. Exposure control affects the exposure time of the camera.

The nominal brightness is set in the AUTO mode. The camera controls the ex-posure time in the range between 1/50(60)s and 1/10000s accordingly. The nominal brightness can be adjusted between 0 and 100%. Changes are made in 5% increments.

A required value in the range between 50% and 70% usually provides op-timum exposure results.

LOW AUTO

This has the same function as AUTO Mode, however, exposure times longer than 1/50(60)s are allowed, which can result in blurred movements.

MANUAL

In MANUAL Mode the selected exposure time is displayed when the con-trol keys are pressed. The setting range goes from 1/6 to 1/10000.

– Increments for PAL: 1/10000, 1/4000, 1/2000, 1/1000, 1/500, 1/250, 1/100, 1/50, 1/25, 1/12 and 1/6

– Increments for NTSC: 1/10000, 1/4000, 1/2000, 1/1000, 1/500, 1/250, 1/120, 1/60, 1/30, 1/15 and 1/8

Greater exposure times can result in blurred movements.The set time disappears from the screen again if the or control key was not pressed longer than 2 seconds.

Showing a live video image (image)

Use the <freeze> key to freeze the current live video image and to display it on the video monitor as a full-screen still image. In the meantime the text "freeze" appears in the upper left corner.

When you press the <live> key, the current live video image is displayed again on the monitor. The text "freeze" disappears.

If the current live video image is being displayed and the switch connected to the remote socket (foot switch) is pressed, and if FREEZE/LIVE is set under SERVICE MENU - REMOTE SETUP - REMOTE FUNCTION in the CONFIG MENU, the live video image is frozen and displayed as a still image on the monitor. This corresponds to the "freeze" function. If you press the connected switch (foot control panel) while the freeze frame is being displayed, the live video image appears on the monitor again. This corresponds to the "live"function.

Camera

In the "Camera" submenu you can adjust the brightness, image, color and profiles.

The settings in the "Brightness", "Image" and "Color" tabs directly affect the profile set in "Profiles". Different values can be saved in the respective tabs for each profile. The settings that are configured are saved automatically. When the profile is changed (see "Active Profile" Page 187) the settings saved for this profile are loaded.

In the "Brightness" tab you can configure different exposure and brightness settings.

Use the <Brightness> key to go directly to the "Brightness" tab.

Automatic In this mode the camera adjusts the brightness of the video image auto-matically to the value specified in the "Auto level". Exposure control af-fects the exposure time of the camera.

In "Automatic" mode the target brightness is specified and the camera ad-justs the shutter speed in a range between 1/50 (60) s and 1/10000 s. There is no screen output regarding the shutter speed actually set. The target value can be set between 0 and 100%. The change is made in 5% increments.

Low light This mode has the same function as the "Automatic" mode, but exposure times greater than 1/50 (60) s are allowed, which can result in blurred movements.

Manual In this mode you can set the exposure time under "Exposure time". The setting range extends from 1/6 to 1/10000.

2 LightmeterIn "Lightmeter" you can choose between three types of exposure meas-urement: Small spot, large spot or integral.

The lightmeter function is active only when the brightness is to set "Auto-matic" or "Little light".

Small spot The exposure is measured in a very small area in the image center. This measurement is suitable for work in narrow channels when an extremely small illuminated-field diameter is being used.

Large spot The exposure is measured in an area in the image center. This measure-ment is ideal for working with an eclipsed surgical field edge (resulting from a reduced illuminated-field diameter).

Integral The exposure is measured and averaged across the full video image. This measurement is recommended for surgical fields that are fully and evenly lit.

If the object of interest to you is not in the image center, in most cases the "Small spot" setting will not deliver the desired exposure result. Select ei-ther a larger area ("Integral" or "Large spot") or manual exposure.

You can make the color settings in the "Color" tab.

Use the <colors> key to go to the "Color" tab.

1 RedIn "Red" you can set the red value of the camera in a range from -20 to +20.

The setting of the red value also affects the white balance of the camera (to perform white balancing, see Page 185).

2 BlueIn "Blue" you can set the blue value of the camera in a range from -20 to +20.

The setting of the blue value also affects the white balancing of the camera (to perform white balancing, see Page 185).

3 Color saturationIn "Color saturation" you can set the color saturation of the camera in a range from -10 to +10.

A color saturation setting in a range of ±0 usually provides the best color impression. The effect of the color saturation setting is the strongest for heavily saturated (vivid) colors. The effect is small with low-saturation colors.

4 HueIn "Hue" you can set the hue of the camera in a range from -10 to +10.

Profiles

You can select the current profile in the "Profile" tab.

1 Active profileA profile can be selected in "Active profile". Every profile can be renamed and reset.

Rename Profile (Rename):• Select the <Rename> button.

A virtual keyboard is displayed. This virtual keyboard can be used to rename the profile (max. 15 characters).

• You can select the characters using the control keys . Use the <En-ter> or to adopt the selected character.

• You can delete a character by pressing "Delete".

• Press "OK" to accept a change. You can cancel the action by pressing "Cancel".

Reset profile:• Select the <Reset> button.

• Confirm the warning message with "OK" to reset the profile.

The profile is reset to factory settings.

Recording* / Streaming

In the "Recording"* submenu (with SW recording license) or "Streaming" (without SW recording license) you can configure the recording of photos and videos.

1 Video qualityHere you can set the recording quality of the video to be saved. Saving a higher video quality requires more memory space.

2 Image format*The memory format of the still images is set here. Saving an image inTIFF requires more memory than JPEG format. With the TIFF format, the file is saved without data loss and is not compressed. With the JPEG format, the file is compressed with a little data loss.

3 Recording mode*If "Smart Recording" is active, the video image of the preceding 30 sec-onds is recorded when the <record> button is pressed. This recording from the past is recorded in parallel at the start of the video recording. The recording time should be at least 30 seconds in order for the preceding 30 seconds also be to written completely in the video file.

If the recording is ended too early, not all the data can be recorded.

4 Storage mode*Here you set the output medium for the images or videos.

Without a SW recording license only "Streaming" mode is available.

In the "LAN" storage mode, a "Standard Windows Network Share" pro-tocol is used.In the "Streaming" storage mode, the "Real Time Protocol" (RTP) is used and the connection is established using the "Real-Time Streaming Pro-tocol" (RTSP).

5 Patient data mode*Here you determine the mode of the file name. You can enter the patient name in "Last name + first name". In ID you can assign an ID yourself for the patient using numerical characters.

6 File mode*When "Short Term Memory Mode" (default) is active, the data is not as-signed to a patient, but is filed in the folder according to the date and time. Files that are older than 3 days are deleted automatically. In "Short Term Memory Mode" you cannot switch the patient. Deactivate this mode in order to be able to switch patients.

If "Short Term Memory Mode" is deactivated, patient mode is active. Your files are then assigned to the active patient.

System

General configurations and settings for the software, microscope, network and video can be made in the "System" submenu.

The "System" submenu cannot be opened when Streaming or Smart Re-cording is activated. Therefore, deactivate Streaming or Smart Recording to open the "System" submenu.

In the "general" tab you can set general configurations.

The "Zoom ON/OFF" setting of the <function F1> key will show visible changes only if the zoom value is set greater than 1.0 (see Page 185).

3 Remote function (foot switch)In "Remote Function" you can assign the following functions to a foot switch:

– Video recording, which corresponds to the triggering of the button <Record>* / "Streaming ON/OFF" without SW recording license

– Image capture, which corresponds to the triggering of the button <Capture>* / "Freeze"/"Live" without SW recording license

The assigned function is triggered when the foot switch is pressed.

4 SoundsIn "Sounds" you can activate or deactivate the notification or acknowledg-ment sounds.Message: Notification in case of information and error messagesConfirmation: Confirmation when the key function is performed

5 Date / TimeIn "Date / Time" you can adjust the date and the time.

Setting the date:

• Select "Date".

Microscope (surgical microscope)

In the "Microscope" (surgical microscope) tab you can choose between four different OP types. Each OP type affects the profiles and thus the camera set-tings associated with them

1 TreatmentIn "Treatment" you can choose between four different treatment settings. Switching the type of treatment causes all the profiles to be reset to the new default values. Each type of treatment affects the profiles and thus the camera settings associated with them The profiles associated with the type of treatment selected have optimized and specified settings for the brightness control.

The following types of treatment can be selected:

– Dental: This type of treatment is designed for the optimum image set-ting in the upper and lower tooth section area.

– ENT: This type of treatment is designed to display images in the ear, nose and throat area.

– Gynecology: This type of treatment is designed to display images in the gynecological area.

– Neuro: This type of treatment is designed to display images in the neu-rological area.

2 Export / ImportIn "Export / Import" you can export or import the camera settings or all settings to or from a USB medium.

We recommend that you back up your configuration on a UBS data car-rier. In the case of a malfunction of the integrated HD video camera live & streaming, this configuration information can be used to restore the system and your settings (including the network configuration) after the device has been repaired or replaced.

3 Recording LicenseIn "Recording License" you can see whether the SW recording License is installed and activated for the video recording function (Recording). For installation, see Page 204.

Network

In the "Network" tab you can set your network configurations.

1 IP SettingsMAC AddressThe MAC Address (Media Access Control Address) is the hardware address of each individual network adapter that serves as a unique identification of the device in a computer network if required. The unique MAC address is required to create a SW recording license.

DHCP activated: Network link via a dynamic IP address "DHCP"A dynamic IP address is an IP address which is automatically assigned to the requesting device by an address service (DCHP server) available in the network.

After applying the activated DHCP, you can read out the values trans-mitted from the DHCP server using the buttons IP Address, Subnet Mask and Standard Gateway.

DHCP deactivated: Network connection via a static IP address. Static IP addresses are fixed IP addresses, permanently assigned to a system. You can obtain the data required for this purpose (IP address, subnet mask and standard gateway) from your IT Administrator.

• Enter the data and use "Apply" to activate the changes.

For more detailed information on the network configuration, see "Config-uring the Network Connection (default settings)" onPage 197 .

2 Network share*The recorded video and image data can be saved in a "network folder"“ in a computer on the network.

Requirements for connecting the network computer:

– You may need administrator rights to the network computer to create a network share.

– You will need the Ethernet data of the archiving PC to configure the network share.

– You can obtain the data required for the network share from your IT Administrator.

• Enter the data and use "Apply" to activate the changes.

3 StreamingYou can stream live camera data to a network computer with little delay. Depending on the receiver software, delays of less than 1 second are pos-sible.

Prerequisites for Streaming:

– You need RTSP/RTP compatible receiver software in your compu-ter of media device.

• Enter the data and use "Apply" to activate the changes.

4 Web control / Web interface*The web interface with activated web control is a substitute remote con-trol that uses a web browser.

When web control is activated, you can control the following functions over the network at the computer:

– Manage patients and input or rename patients directly using the keyboard (see Page 202)

– Delete files or patients

– Trigger the <Record>, <Capture>, <Live> and <Index> keys (see Page 80)

– The image is displayed or the video is played via the DVI or YPbPr monitor output, and not in the web browser.

If web control is deactivated, control is not possible. No header bar and footer bar or notifications are displayed in the web browser (security func-tion e.g. for universities).

Security recommendations for networking:

– You can deactivate the use of the network. Switch over to the UBS or dis-connect the network cable.

– You can deactivate web control over the network.

– You can use access rights (user and password) to the network server or network computer to control access to the network share.

– Share only the minimum data fields required (e.g. only for the daily re-quirement or not all patient data).

– Use a separate share with a separate patient area for each S100 / OPMI pico with SW recording license to prevent problems among the different devices and users.

– You can change and adjust the network share any time.

– After using the network share, you can disable it again in the network server.

– Install the current security updates in the network server.

The integrated HD video camera live & streaming is not an archiving system. Therefore to protect your videos and images, you should secure a proper ar-chiving system.

Configuring the network connection (default settings)

In the "Network" tab (Main menu > Menu settings > System submenu > Net-work tab) you can configure the surgical microscope for a network.

The following settings are preinstalled settings. These settings can be changed by the IT Administrator any time that the network environment re-quires it.

You can stream to a single receiver (client IP) by indicating a single IP ad-dress. But the stream can also be transmitted to several receivers at the same time if you use the broadcast address of your network area as the client IP. In addition, each receiver must set up the connection via RTSP.

Use broadcast only in a cable-connected network and not to WLAN re-ceivers.

If streaming is active in the S100 / OPMI pico, the following URL can be used in the video software (additional software may be required):

URL: rtsp://192.168.0.11:8554/video

You only have to adjust the IP address or replace the name configured in the Domain Name System (DNS).You can read out the IP address of the surgical microscope using the "IP Address" button even if DHCP is active (see Page 195).

Video

In the "Video" tab you can determine the display and recording options.

1 HDTV formatYou can select the video camera's output signal and adjust it to your dis-play device here.

720p Select this setting if your display device is 720p compatible. The image is set up using real full frames. This prevents any interline flicker, and the image is sharply defined and stable. The resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels.

1080p Select this setting if your display device is 1080p compatible. The image is set up using real full frames. This prevents any interline flicker, and the image is sharply defined and stable. The resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Without a SW recording license, streaming is transmitted with 720p even if your camera and monitor are set to 1080p.

2 SDTV formatHere you can choose between a "Letterbox" and a "Sidecut" display when connected to a display unit with Y/C analog input (monitor, projector, etc.) mostly in 4:3 format.

Letterbox Black bars will appear at the top and bottom of the screen and the image will be displayed in the 16:9 format.

Sidecut The image is cut off on the sides and only the middle of the image is dis-played in an aspect ratio of 4:3.

3 Display the ZEISS logoHere you can choose whether the ZEISS logo is to be displayed in the live image and in the recording.

4 Video standardYou can switch from 50 Hz (PAL) and 60 Hz (NTSC) here.

After you have started the switchover, the settings will be applied and the camera will restart. This process can take up to 30 seconds. In the mean-time the ZEISS logo will be displayed filling the entire screen.

5 DVI / HDMI outputHere you can toggle between the video formats "PC mode" and "Video mode" when a high-resolution display unit (monitor, projector, etc.) is connected.

You can find the correct setting for your connected monitor or TV in the Instructions for Use belonging to your output device.If you do not find any information for this setting, we recommend PC mode (default) for display units with a DVI connection. For display units with an HDMI connection we recommend the video mode setting. PC mode offers greater image quality than video mode.

Web interface

With the help of the web interface you can use a web browser to trigger the control buttons <Record>, <Capture> and <Live> from any computer.

• Start the web interface by entering the URL in the address line of your browser (see Page 198).

The start screen appears.

The link displayed on the start screen and the URL facilitate the configuration and starting of the streaming application of your computer.

Creating or renaming a patient using the web interface

You can rename the patient quickly and conveniently using the web interface.

• Press the "Patient" button.

The list of patients appears.

You can select "New" to create a new patient.

• Press the "New" button.

A field appears prompting you to enter the last name and first name of the patient.

• Use the keyboard to enter the name of the patient.

• Press the "OK" button to save the entry.

The list of patients is displayed.

The new patient has been created and is active immediately.

Index in the web interface

You can use the web interface to open or delete the media saved in the index (for the Index menu, see Page 207).

• Press the "Index" button in the upper selection bar or alternatively the <In-dex> button of the remote control of the video unit.

– The "Index" is opened and the existing data is displayed.

When web control is deactivated, the Patient/Index, Record, Capture and Live buttons are not displayed.

Without a SW recording license, the Patient/Index button is not displayed during streaming.

A change cannot be made to the Patient menu in Short Term Memory Mode. Only the index is available.

Installing the SW recording license

You need the SW recording license to be able to use all the functions such as recording and patient management.

The SW recording license is available from your dealer. Your MAC address (Page 195) is required for this purpose. You will receive a USB medium with the SW recording license.

• Insert the USB medium with the license file into the USB port.

• Open the Microscope tab (Main menu > Settings menu > System sub-menu > Microscope tab).

• Press the "Import license" button (3).

• Enter "OK" to confirm the notification.

"Installed" appears after the button. The SW recording license is active im-mediately. All functions can be used without restarting.

Recording individual images and HD videos*

• Always check the following points (without the patient) before using the device:

– The monitor is switched on.

– The network cable connection is established or a USB medium is con-nected, is detected and has sufficient memory capacity.

– The correct profile was selected (see Page 187).

– The correct patient has been selected (see Page 178) or "Short Term Memory Mode" is activated (see Page 188). The name of the patient or "Short Term Memory Mode" (1) appears in the header bar.

Creating individual images

• To creat individual images (photos), press the <Capture> button on the re-mote control, the video unit, the foot switch (if configured) or the web in-terface.

Recording HD videos

• To start video recording, press the <Record> button on the remote con-trol, the video unit, the foot switch (if configured) or the web interface.

During video recording, "Rec" (2), the duration of the recording (3) e.g. 00:00:08 and the remaining recording time (4) e.g. (348:26:22) appear in the footer bar. The "record" indicator light on the control unit lights up with an amber color.

While recording a video the photo function (Capture) can be used to create additional images.

• Press the <Record> button again to end the video recording.

Lamp failure of halogen light source

The lamp housing contains a backup lamp which can be manually swung into the illumination beam path when the first lamp fails. Open flap (1) indicates that the backup lamp is operative.

• Press button (2) to manually swing the backup lamp into the beam path.

Open flap (1) indicates that the backup lamp is operative.

• Replace the defective lamp at the first opportunity (see Page 224).

• If the backup lamp is defective and replacement is not possible, continue surgery using an external OR illuminator.

Lamp failure of xenon light source

The xenon light source has a lamp module containing two xenon lamps. The second lamp is used as backup lamp. Manually swivel in the backup lamp after a failure of the first lamp or if the maximum service life of the first lamp of 500h (see chapter "Maintenance intervals" on Page 222) is exceeded. The backup lamp is in operation if the red segment (3) is lit in button (2).

Manual switching to the backup lamp

• Turn off the suspension system at the power switch before switching to the backup lamp.

• Press the button (4) to open the lamp module.

The lamp module is slightly ejected.

• Pull out the lamp module (1) as far as it will go. Turn knob (2) through 180° until it snaps in place.

This moves the backup lamp into the illumination beam path.

• Push the lamp module (1) all the way back into the lamp housing.

• Turn on the suspension system at its power switch.

• In case the backup lamp is defective and an exchange of the lamp module is not possible, please proceed with an external surgical lamp.

Failure of backup lamp

• If you work with the backup lamp and this lamp fails during a surgery, the lamp module of the xenon light source must be exchanged, see Page 226.

CAUTION Risk of burns!

System maintenance

Maintenance intervals

Regular preventive maintenance is required to ensure safe and correct opera-tion and a long service life of the system on an ongoing basis.

The following table lists the relevant maintenance activities and shows at which maximum intervals they must be performed.

The corresponding procedures in order to perform maintenance activities on your own can be found in the following descriptions.

Any other maintenance activities that are not described here in detail require device-specific knowledge. Please contact your local ZEISS Service or an authorized partner for per-forming maintenance activities in due time.

Interval Maintenance tasks

Max. 12 weeks Exchange xenon lamp if it is operated for 8 hours/day on 5 days/week. This corresponds to the service life of a xenon lamp of 500 h.

Max. 25 weeks Exchange xenon lamp if it is operated for 4 hours/day on 5 days/week. This corresponds to the service life of a xenon lamp of 500 h.

Every 2 years Visual inspection and function test of the following modules:

– S100 suspension system

– Illumination and power supply unit

– Surgical microscope with tube

– Light guide

– Power cord

– Connected accessories

– Secure seating of OPMI suspension

– Securing screws are available and tightened

Safety check

To prevent any impairment of the system's safety as a result of aging, wear, etc., the organization operating the system must ensure, in accordance with the applicable national regulations, that the regular technical safety checks defined for this system are performed on schedule and to the stipulated ex-tent.

The safety checks shall only be performed by the manufacturer or by qualified staff.At a minimum, the scope of the safety checks of the system should comprise the following points:

– Availability of the user manual

– Visual inspection of the system and accessories for damage and legibility of the labels

– Leakage current test

– Test of the protective ground conductor

– Function and wear test of casters and arrestors on the floor stand

– Function test of all switches, buttons, sockets and indicator lamps of the system

– Securing screws are available and tightened

CAUTION Risk of injury!

• Make sure that the regular technical safety checks required for this sys-tem in accordance with the applicable national regulations are performed on schedule and to the stipulated extent.

Replacing the halogen lamp

• Only use the halogen light indicated in chapter "Device data => order da-ta".

• Turn off the suspension system at the power switch.

• Press button (3), the lamp module is slightly ejected. Pull out lamp module (2).

• Press the button (1). The lamp holder in the lamp module springs open.

• Remove the defective halogen lamp from the spring-loaded mount.

• Pull the ceramic base (9) from the contact pins of the halogen lamp.

Make sure not to touch the bulb (8) or the inner side of the lamp reflector (7) of the new halogen lamp.

• Plug ceramic base (9) onto the contact pins of a new halogen lamp.

• Insert the new halogen lamp.

• Press the halogen lamp into the spring-loaded mount.

• Press the lamp holder (5) into the lamp module until it snaps in.

• Push the lamp module including the new halogen lamp back into the sys-tem.

• Turn on the system at its power switch.

• Use the brightness control to adjust the illumination when the suspension arm is in its working position.

NOTE Risk of burns caused by hot lamps!

If you change the lamp shortly after it has failed, the lamp will still be very hot.

• Allow the lamp to cool down before changing it.

To use the service life of your halogen lamps as economically as possible, we recommend that you do not set the brightness to a higher level than required for your work.

If main lamp (4) has failed, remove it and replace it by backup lamp (6). Install the new halogen lamp instead of the backup lamp.

Exchanging the lamp module of the xenon illumination system

• Turn off the suspension system at the power switch.

• Press button (2). The lamp module (1) is slightly ejected.

• Pull out the lamp module (1) as far as it will go.

• Slide the original transport case (3) over the lamp module. Bolt (4) must engage in hole(5). This unlocks the stop.

• Remove the old lamp module and insert the new module.

• Turn on the suspension system at its power switch.

• Check the function of the xenon lamp and backup xenon lamp.

• Pack the old lamp module (6) in the transport packaging of the new lamp module. Fill in the enclosed return card and send the old lamp module to the nearest Zeiss service representative.

Please only use the original transport packaging (6), it is an explosion protec-tion for eventually defective xenon lamps.

NOTE Risk of burns caused by hot lamps!

If you change the lamp shortly after it has failed, the lamp will still be very hot.

• Allow the lamp to cool down before changing it.

NOTE Risk of injury!

The xenon lamp may fast burst due to the high inner pressure even if it is cold. A hot lamp is therefore more dangerous due to the higher pressure and the used materials. In case of burst lamps, persons may be injured by flying glass splinters.

The lamp module shall only be changed by instructed staff.

• Only change the lamp module when it is cold.

• Avoid shocks at the lamp module.

Changing the fuse - halogen illumination system

The fuses are integrated in the power inlet socket for the power cable. To change a fuse, proceed as follows:

• Turn off the unit at the power switch.

• Unplug the power cable from the line power socket.

• Unplug the power cable from the power inlet socket.

• Insert a suitable object under two flaps (1) and pull out fuse holder (2).

• Remove the defective fuse.

• Insert the new fuse and push the fuse holder back into its compartment.

Note the voltage rating of the line fuse. This rating can be found on the type label.

• Connect the device to the power supply.

• Turn on the device at its power switch.

Cleaning

Cleaning optical surfaces

The multi-layer T* coating of the optical components (e.g. eyepieces, objective lenses) ensures optimum image quality.Image quality is impaired by even slight contamination of the optics or by a fingerprint. To protect the internal optics from dust, the system should never be left without the objective lens, binocular tube and eyepieces. After use, cover the system to protect it from dust. Always store objective lenses, eye-pieces and accessories in dust-free cases when they are not being used.

Clean the exterior surfaces of the optical components (eyepieces, objective lenses) only when necessary:

• Do not use any aggressive or abrasive cleaning agents.

• Remove dust from the optical surfaces using a squeeze blower or a clean, grease-free brush.

For the regular cleaning of objective lenses and eyepieces of the surgical mi-croscope, we recommend the optics cleaning set available from ZEISS. For the catalog number, please see the section "System data - Ordering data".

Prevention of fogging

To protect the eyepiece optics from fogging, we recommend using an anti-fogging agent. Anti-fogging agents provided by eyecare professionals for use with eyeglass lenses are also suitable for Zeiss eyepieces.

• Please observe the Instructions for Use supplied with each anti-fogging agent.

Anti-fogging agents do not only ensure fog-free eyepiece optics. They also clean the eyepiece optics and protect them from dirt, grease, dust, fluff and fingerprints.

Cleaning mechanical surfaces

All mechanical surfaces of the system can be cleaned by wiping them with a damp cloth. Do not use any aggressive or abrasive cleaning agents.

Clean off any residue using a mixture of 50% ethyl alcohol and 50% distilled water plus a dash of household dish-washing liquid.

Sterilization

The asepsis sets available from ZEISS contain rubber caps and hand grips that can be sterilized in autoclaves. For detailed information on sterilization, please see the enclosed instructions "Preparation of resterilizable products" for the respective asepsis set.

You can also use disposable sterile drapes to cover the system.

• When fitting the sterile drape, ensure there is sufficient slack to allow for movement of the microscope carrier and surgical microscope.

• Do not cover the ventilation opens - this ensures the lamps are cooled ad-equately and no lamp fails.

Disinfection

The maximum concentrations are:

– For alcohol (tested with 2 propanol): 60%

– For aldehyde (tested with glutaraldehyde): 2%

– For quaternary compounds (tested with DDAC): 0.2%

NOTE Risk of damaging the paint on the device!

• Use a disinfectant based on aldehyde or alcohol. The addition of quater-nary compounds is acceptable.To avoid damaging the surfaces, do not use any disinfecting components other than those specified below.

Inserting or changing the battery

A battery compartment is provided on the back of the remote control.

• Slide the cover of the battery compartment open.

• Insert two LR03 alkaline batteries (size AAA) as shown below.

– Do not try to recharge the empty dry cell batteries.

– Do not bring the dry batteries in contact with metal objects. This can lead to heat formation.

– Do not combine different battery types.

– Exchange both batteries when performing a battery change.

Remove the batteries to avoid damage by corrosion whenever the remote control is not used for a longer period.

Disposal of used batteries

Under no circumstances may batteries be disposed of as normal domestic waste.

a In theory, the field strengths of stationary transmitters such as base stations for cell phones and mobile land radio equipment, amateur radio stations, AM and FM radio and TV transmitters cannot be predicted accu-rately. To assess the electromagnetic environment with respect to stationary RF transmitters, a site study of the electromagnetic phenomena should be considered. If the field strength measured at the location where the device is used exceeds the above compliance levels, the device must be monitored to verify proper func-tion. If abnormal performance is observed, additional measures may be necessary, such as re-orienting or re-locating the ME equipment or ME system.

The device S100 / OPMI pico can be extended with the accessories offered by ZEISS (see ordering data/accessories) to form an already tested system. This system combination has been approved by ZEISS.

Additional devices that are connected to electronic medical devices must comply with the relevant standards and guidelines (for example IEC 60950 for data processing devices). Furthermore, any configurations must comply with normative requirements for electronic medical devices (see IEC 60601-1:2005, chapter 16; in some countries IEC 60601-1-1:2000 may still be valid).The one who is connecting additional devices to electronic medical devices acts as system configurer and is responsible for the system complying with the normative requirements for electronic medical devices.
