Large, unpredictable oil spills can defeat even the most conservativelydesigned pollution control systems. The OSV is an economical option usedto confine hydrocarbon spills to the premises for safe disposal.to confine hydrocarbon spills to the premises for safe disposal. AFL's OSV is fabricated from either non-corrosive Stainless or PVC and has only one moving part, the ballasted float. When an oil spill occurs, the float loses buoyancy as the oil level increases until it finally seats on the discharge port, closing and confining the spill.

PVC
PVC models represent an economical option to
prevent bulk hydrocarbon spills. Corrosion-resistant
PVC construction is ideal for warmer climates.
STAINLESS STEEL
Stainless steel models are recommended in colder
climates or where greater durability is desired.
STAINLESS STEEL EXTENDED OUTLET
Stainless steel extended outlet models reduce fire risk by
extending the outlet pipe through the sump wall so there
is no connection inside the sump to burn and fail.

The VTC removes 'free' hydrocarbons and settleable solids from industrial waste water and
coolant. In operation, the VTC accepts industrial liquid waste in the inlet chamber where
settleable solids fall to the bottom as sludge for periodic removal. The waste stream then enters
the coalescing separation chamber where AFL's Delta-Tubes inspire laminar flow characteristics
to the liquid as it passes through the separator. The result is a liquid more responsive to gravity
separation. The Delta-Tubes primarily provide a coalescing medium for oil globules. Oleophilic in
nature, the Delta-Tubes attract small oil globules which coalesce to larger globules, increasing in
size and buoyancy, then break away to rise to the surface. Floating oil is collected by a Rotary
Pipe Skimmer for collection and disposal in accordance with local regulations.

AFL oil and solids separators are designed in accordance with American Petroleum Institute
(API) criteria for liquid waste. The EGS is a pre-packaged, ready-to-install separation tank
constructed of either fiberglass, stainless steel or carbon steel. AFL's dual-wall fiberglass tank
offers the greatest durability and life expectancy with foam core, 100% composite once-piece

AFL has developed tube packs to upgrade existing gravity separator used in treating oilywastewater. The principal function of the pack is to provide a coalescing surface on which minute oil globules can agglomerate. The coalesced oil then rises to the surface to be skimmed.
The tube pack makes possible the attainment of one of two goals – or a compromise between them: 1. The oil content of the water can be significantly reduced, or 2. The flow through the separator can be greatly increased without degradation of the oil-separating performance.
The vertically-positioned tubes, made of perforated polypropylene, have oleophilic(oil-attracting) properties. Small, suspended particles of oil agglomerate on the surface and wick up. Or if they become sufficiently large and Buoyant, they break free and rise through the tubes.EN

COALESCING DELTA TUBES· SPECIFICATION SHEET
A tube provides up to five times more coalescing surface than a plate pack. The extra surface
gives oil globules more area on which to collect.
The vertical orientation of the tubes contributes to a more efficient separation. In a plate pack
the rising oil must move against the flow of the influent. With a tube pack, however, the oil is
free to travel a clear upward path to the surface.
A pack consists of modular one-foot welded bundles of tubes. Fiberglass channel and grating
form a cradle to hold the modules in place. Eyebolts at the upper corners of the pack permit
lifting the entire unit for inspection or servicing the separator.
The tubes remove oil globules down to the 20-micron range; this contrasts with the removal of
150 micron globules by gravity separators constructed on API dimensional criteria. In AFL
coalescing separators the tubes typically produce effluents with an oil content of less than
1- mg/ltr.
FEATURES
More efficient than plate packs
Upgrades existing gravity separators
Removes oil down to 20-micron globule size
Typical oil reduction to 10mg/ltr
Available to fit any size gravity separator
VERTICAL TUBE COALESCING PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
/JEAN cAuENT
Tubes reduce free oil content
of effluent to 10 mg/ltr or less
because microscopic oil
particles agglomerate on the
surface. The growing oil
globules either wick up or, if
sufficiently buoyant, break
free to rise to the surface.
A single pass of a perforated tube
demonstrates the oleophilic
(oil-attracting) properties of the
material. This reverses the
separator operation where
contaminated water moves past a
battery of tubes.
Tubes are welded in one-foot
square bundles (as above).
Sections of these bundles,
held in place by a cradle, can
easily be lifted out for
vinspection.
