JULY 2021 Teachers Orientation Program – 1st July 2021 Teachers have three loves: love of learning, love of learners, and the love of bringing the first two loves together We begin this New Academic Year with the "Teachers orientation Program" . Our Teachers are always on the path to learn and equip themselves with more knowledge which in turn helps with the growth and development of our students as well.Our principal guided our staff with her vast knowledge and experience on how to tackle this challenging year amidst the lockdown and the pandemic without hindering the education of our students.

Service as Action Orientation – 8th July 2021 In view of orientation to all the faculty of MYP and DP, Ms. Dhivya, SA Coordinator conducted a session on Service as Action. The presentation started with an ice breaking session thereby brainstorming and inducing teachers to actively participate in the learning. It was quite interesting and interactive. She gave a clear picture of Service as Action and the ways of implementing it in the curriculum by stating appropriate examples.

Personal Project – 12th July 2021 Students of MYP5 enthusiastically presented the success criteria and the research work based on the development of the success criteria with the proof of their research for their Personal project to their PP coordinator, Supervisors and gathered the information on the changes to be made. The involvement of the students in completing their tasks sticking to the deadline during their vacation is appreciable.

TOK Orientation – 13th July 2021 Ms.Dhara the TOK Coordinator facilitated the teachers in understanding the importance of Theory of Knowledge and the ways in which Theory of Knowledge can be introduced to students . The various ways to assist the students and to tackle their queries were also discussed. A wonderful eye opening session it was.

Students Orientation Programme MYP and DP – 19th July 2021

MYP and DP students Orientation Programme is conducted on July 19th. The students participated enthusiastically. Students were given sessions on IB learner profile, academic Honesty and Service as Action .

MYP and DP Parents Orientation – 24th July 2021

"Self Introduction is the effective tool to introduce ourselves to the unknown, Likewise "Orientation Program is the Key for the parents and students to understand their programme of Education" Gateway IB provided an opportunity for parents to understand and feel confident about the level of progression that would be attained by their wards in the upcoming academic year.

Ms Sangeetha, our MYP & DP coordinator made all the parents feel confident about the value of education provided by Gateway IB through her warm gesture about the programme. Following the orientation program, parents were introduced to the Gateway IB MYP and DP team of teachers for the academic year 2021-2022. Parents extended their happiness towards the smooth handling of the programme and wish the teachers for great success in this academic year.

World Tiger Day Celebration – 29th July 2021

World Tiger Day is celebrated all over the world to spread awareness on the importance of conservation of Tiger. Students of MYP4 made an awareness video and requested the members of GIS IB to participate in the "Weekend Plant a Sapling Activity" to promote Afforestation. Plant a Sapling this Weekend Activity - 30th July 2021 In commemorating the Tiger Day celebration, our students did plan for a “Plant a sapling this

weekend Activity “ to promote Afforestation. When everyone of us contribute to this, we will

surely see a rise in the greenery of our country and this in turn will promote a wonderful habitat for our Majestic Tiger.

World BioFuel Day Celebrations:

We would like to take this opportunity to appreciate the efforts taken by Akshaya Yuvaraj of MYP 1, Rion Santhosh of MYP3 and John Abraham of MYP3 to create awareness among the young minds about the needs and necessities of Biofuel. They clearly explained the need for biofuel, what are the raw materials required to create the biofuel and the ways in which the biofuel can be produced with the motive to save the resources and keep our World in safe hands. Finally, the session came to an end with the wonderful message shared by our Principal mam insisting the students take care of our Mother Nature.

The students enthusiastically participated in the workshop to enhance their writing skills. Students had an enriching session by attending a workshop conducted by, Book Einstein, on Creative writing. The interactive program aimed to improve descriptive-creative writing skills by demystifying the process of writing with clarity & purpose and understanding the importance of Characterisation and settings. Students were encouraged to use new vocabulary to develop a Writer’s edge at a young age.

CAS activity – 13th Aug 2021 “Being youth is a beautiful part of life and being a responsible youth is an appreciating aspect of the younger generation”

In view of celebrating the International Youth day, Addy of DP1 showcased his creativity through digital poster.

INDEPENDENCE DAY Competition – 14th Aug 2021

This was indeed a great day as we had a few competitions held for every level of students to commemorate the 75th Independence Day (August 2021) in our Gateway International School IB.

World Humanitarian Day – 19th Aug 2021

AN ACT OF KINDNESS

On the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, we in the GIS had urged the students to be empathetic to the community helpers and the ones who deserve to be saluted for their relentless service. So, on this international day we are dedicated to recognize humanitarian personnel who have selflessly chosen to rush towards crises to aid those in urgent need and those who have lost their lives working for humanitarian causes. This is observed every year on the 19th of August.

The students of Gateway IB School, participated enthusiastically by making Gift Hampers that were filled with basic essentials like clothes, fruits and snacks along with a hand crafted Thank you Card.

This beautiful gesture of kindness brought joy to these identified Local Hero's.

Investiture Ceremony – 27th Aug 2021

The student council for the academic year 2021-2022 was inaugurated over the virtual platform.Our young elected leaders were prepared to don the mantle of leadership and discharge the responsibilities entrusted upon them by the school. Our school acknowledged the budding young leaders and reposed the trust in them.

World Water Week – 31st Aug – 6th Sep 2021

Students of MYP 5 exhibited their talents in showcasing and demonstrating an awareness about the Conservation of water to the students of PYP2 to PYP5 and in order to comprehend the knowledge of the Primary students they conducted a Quiz on the topics discussed with the students it was an interactive and informative session and the students actively participated and were enthusiastically involved and cooperated with the peers.

Teachers day Celebrations – 3rd Sep 2021

The School Students council surprised the Teachers and falicitated them with a video presentation and various activities like fun filled games. They collaborated with their peers from the other grades and participated in the celebration which Involved the whole school.

Awareness on Electrical hazards and Safety – 9th Sep 2021 The main aim of the students of MYP- 5 as they took responsibility to conduct the Awareness on Electrical hazards and Safety on Sep 9th,2021 as they had PYP 4&5 students witness the knowledge that they shared and the importance of the electrical gadgets in real-life applications. The students understood the importance of handling electrical gadgets with care, the steps to be followed when there is a fire outbreak, and the Do’s and Don'ts to be

followed when there is an electrical hazard.

Theory of Knowledge Webinar – 11th Sep 2021

The DP core subject Theory of Knowledge provides us an insight to reflect on the nature, scope and limitations of knowledge and the process of knowing it. TOK enables the learner to consider what we already know and how to examine the evidence for claims to distinguish facts from opinions.

Gandhi Jayanthi Celebrations – 1st Oct 2021

Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated virtually at the Gateway whole School Assembly in Remembrance of our beloved Father of our Nation. This year 2021 is remarked as the152 nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Guest lecture on Screen casting and Screenplay – 8th Oct 2021 GIS IB provided a wonderful opportunity for students of MP4 and 5, DP1 and 2 to learn and understand the Concepts such as Script writing and screenplay. The session was led by Mr. Joseph Raj, an experienced person in Film production for over 15 years. Currently working as a Chief Creative officer where he oversees the production, story, script, screenplay, pre and post production.

Air force Day – 11th Oct 2021

The tiny tots were very eager to comprehend and were excited to observe the different airplane that they witnessed and enjoyed celebrating 89th Indian air force day by watching the video on different types of Indian aircrafts. The Wonderful and brilliant students understood the role of the air force people and that they were involved to protect our country from enemies through air.

Global Context and Design workshops were conducted on 29th Oct 2021

GIS IB conducted a 'Global context workshop' on 29.10.21 for MYP4 and 5 students.The event started with an ice breaking session to tune them in, where the students were made to do an activity The purpose of the workshop was to make students understand the concept of global contexts in connection to the subjects they learn.

November 2021

Math IA Workshop by Ms Kalpana – 1st Nov 2021

Internal assessments are mandatory and an important submission of the Diploma Programme. To strengthen the IA skills of the students in Mathematics, a Math IA workshop was conducted in our school for DP1 and DP2 students. It was led by Ms Kalpana, IB Examiner.

The onset of Covid- 19 pandemic around the world locked the wings of younger generations inside four walls. This was broken after a span of 18 months and we at GIS arranged a grand welcome to the students of MYP1 to MYP3 on 15/11/21.

IBDP Core Workshop – 19th and 20th Nov 2021

The IBDP workshop was conducted by Ms Naghma. She had given a broad insight for teachers to understand the importance of Core elements.

Guest Lecture: (Language and Literature) – 25th Nov 2021 The students of DP 2 were addressed by our guest lecturer Ms.Sangamithra Natraj on the Critical Theories . The students learnt theories such as new criticism, Psychoanalysis and reader-response theory in the avidly engaging lecture that Ms.Sangamithra presented.

A guest lecture was delivered to the students of DP 2 by Ms. Rishiga Ramesh on 25th November, covering the topic of Feminism and Feminist Criticism. The guest lecture proved beneficial for the students and helped them gain a deeper understanding in to the world of feminism.

Selvinson, the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Catherine Hope Foundation. Her personal story and passion to work amongst children with Special needs was highly motivational and encouraged our students to be an Ambassador of Change.

IBWS Meeting with Suman Sethi (IB Manager) – 20th Dec 2021

A collaboration meeting was arranged among the IBWS Manager for our School, Ms Suman Sethi

and the team of coordinators along with our Principal attended the meeting. The plan and the preparation for the evaluation visit were discussed in this session. Our MYP Coordinator, Ms Dharakeswari discussed the submission of unit planners for the revised subject guide as well. It was an informative session and proved to be beneficial for the upcoming evaluation visit.

Christmas Celebrations – 20th Dec 2021

Christmas is the festival that inspires the spirit of sharing and caring. Soaking into the spirit of Christmas, the PYP students celebrated the festival with great enthusiasm on December 20th, 2021, by participating in various events. The cultural program started with the prayers to the Almighty. Everybody prayed for the permanent existence of love and peace in this during the unprecedent World.

January 2022 SLC – MYP – 8th Jan 2022

One of the important IB approaches to learning is at the heart of student agency emphasizing “voice and choice”, where students take responsibility for their actions. In view of this, a virtual student-led conference was conducted on 08/01/2022(Saturday) by the students to let their parents know about their learning in the first term. A student-led conference is a pre-planned meeting in which students demonstrate responsibility for their academic performance by providing a review of their work for parents and teachers. Gratitude is one of the high values of humankind, in view of expressing gratitude to nature GIS conducted virtual pongal celebration on 12th Jan 2022. Guest Lecture – Story time with Ms.Hannah – 21st Jan 2022

Storytelling is a universal and traditional art form that has featured strongly in Indian culture as an effective communication tool. It can be used to inform, entertain and educate. It is often used as a medium to ingrain values, improve reading skills and open the minds of children to worlds beyond imagination.

Virtual Republic Day Competition – 24th Jan 2022

The 73rd Republic Day celebrations took place on the virtual platform with great passion and enthusiasm. The students participated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor. It was indeed a day of joy, a day to love and respect our country.

Guest Lecture - Analytical Brain Vs Creative Brain – 2nd Feb 2022

The students of PYP-4 attended an interactive session conducted by the Homeroom facilitator, Ms. Lynette Johnson on Analytical Brain Vs Creative Brain, on 2nd Feb 2021. We had Ms. Jannathul Firthous, the Diploma Program Biology Facilitator from Gateway IB join us virtually as the resource person.

Guest Lecture – Non Verbal Communication Methods – 2nd Feb 2022

The students were privileged to attend yet another guest lecture session titled, Let, your hands do the talking. The resource person was Ms. Liji Santhosh, a Speech Therapist, and Audiologist. The students were exposed to the different modes of Non-verbal communication methods. She enlightened us on the concept of Sign Language. The session was very interactive.

Community Project Orientation – 3rd Feb 2022 The community project is an opportunity to engage the students positively in a community. Students will apply their knowledge of the approaches to learning skills, the IB learner profiles, and understanding of the global contexts through an in-depth investigation.

Indian Coast Guard Day Celebration

The Indian Coast Guard which celebrated its 46th Raising Day on Feb 1st, was commemorated in Gateway IB School during the whole school assembly. Ms. Arti played a video to educate the students and make them understand the tireless pursuits of excellence of the ICG which has established itself as a reliable force that responds with alacrity to situations impinging on the Security of the Coastline, Safety of the Seafaring Community, and Coastal Populace.

Professional Development Workshop – 4th and 5th Feb 2022 Global contexts (GC) are elements intrinsic to unit planning that accompany key concepts and a statement of inquiry in order to drive the unit. Contexts for learning in the MYP are chosen from global contexts to encourage international mindedness and global engagement within the programme.

Guest Lecture by Mr. Allan – Selected Councilor for Conservative Party,

London, United Kingdom

This week the students participated in a guest lecture on ‘The functions of the government of

the UK.’ The students got a deep insight into the real-life application where Mr. Allan

explained thoroughly about different branches of the government, the passing of a bill, the

constitutional Monarchy, and the different parties of the UK.

TOK Expert Advice to DP2 Students – 14th Feb 2022

Theory of knowledge (TOK) plays a special role in the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP), by providing an opportunity for students to reflect on the nature of knowledge, and on how we know what we claim to know. To enable our students to get clarity on the essay writing and to score the highest mark, a virtual meeting was arranged on 14 th Feb 2022. was the resource person who shared her expertise to unpack all the nuances to ace the TOK essay.

Direct Classes for MYP - 14th Feb 2022 The regular classes on campus commenced for the students of MYP 5 from 14th Feb 2022. The mock 1 examination was planned and scheduled from 1st of March and the revision classes started for the same.

PYP-School Exchange program – 16th Feb 2022 A Virtual Cultural Exchange Program jointly collaborated between Gateway IB, Chennai, and Delhi Public School, Ghaziabad was organized by Dr. Lynette Johnson, our PYP- 4 Facilitator. This event had students from the Primary Year Program 4 and 5 participate virtually. The Program had an audience of over 450 students witness the entire session that took place on the Online platform, Microsoft Teams. The students from Gateway explained in detail the Location of the state on the Indian Map, Traditional attire, Food and Cuisine, Dance Forms, Language, Tourist spots, Famous personalities, and Sang songs in the local language of the following 4 Southern States, Tamilnadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. While the students from Delhi Public School, Ghaziabad elaborated on 5 Northern states - Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, and Punjab.

PYP-Book Week Celebration – 7th March – 11th March 2022

To the world, you may be one person. But to one person, you may be the world.” ― Dr. Seuss. The Book week celebration at Gateway was celebrated with diverse activities planned across the class levels. Students were encouraged to participate in a Read aloud activity. Our young learners enjoyed a storytelling session and participated in it very enthusiastically. After which, they reflected their understanding by completing a worksheet illustrating the characters of the story and the setting in which it took place. Other activities such as Donating a Book to the school library, Secret Santa – gifting a book, Roleplay of a book character, and decorating the classroom reading corner with posters made the Book week Celebration all the more interesting.

TOK Exhibition by DP Teachers - 9th March 2022

As the DP1 students are getting involved in their preparatory work for TOK Exhibition, a demonstration on how the Exhibition has to be carried on was done by the DP teachers.

To understand that having outdoor plants can bring in fresh air to breathe and reduce pollution. Shashank of PYP 5 investigated and did research work on Air Pollution that causes diseases like lung cancer and other ailments –He specifically targeted the effects of smoking as his local and global issue and recommended and created awareness on creating a cloth mask with a small pouch on the inner surface to hold a small packet of herbal ingredients that could keep you safe from the pollution and also has good effects since it has the smell of camphor, cloves, and the other herbal mixtures into it.

BOOK WEEK Award

World Poetry Day March 21, 2022

“The poetry of the Earth is never dead.” – John Keats Poetry is a form of storytelling. Writing poems can be intimidating for kids however writing poetry is less daunting when students can analyze a model. DP - Professional Development Workshop (4th April to 1st May)

Professional Development workshop for DP Science and Language and Literature started on 4th April 2022. Our teachers, Ms Jennath, Mr Ebenezer, Mr Theleeban and Mr Job, started by Professional Development workshop on 4th April 2022.

DP1 CAS Activity: Autism Awareness:9th April 2022

Students conducted an awareness campaign for students infected with Autism. They made a demonstration for people to understand the world of people with Autism and the support that can extend to help them manage their real life.

They displayed the various sensory materials that could support their learning, and they sold juices and sweets to raise funds to help students with autism with the sensorial materials.

The MYP Cornucopia – 9th April 2022 The journey of the students in the Middle years programme is an integral of their life. MYP develops active learners and internationally minded young people who can empathize with others and pursue lives of purpose and meaning.

The programme empowers students to inquire into a wide range of issues and ideas of significance locally, nationally and globally. The result is young people who are creative, critical and reflective thinkers. MYP students are provided opportunities to exhibit their talents through MYP projects.

GIS MUN – 29th Apr 2022 Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country. The GISMUN Executive Board included Ms Mathangi Anandan as Chair Person (MYP 4 ) ,Mr Pavithran Nagarajane as General Secretory (MYP 4) , Mr Dinesh Giraz (MYP 4) and Mr Rion Santhosh.(MYP 3) . Students from MYP 1 to MYP 4 participated with enthusiasm as delegates representing different countries of the world. MAY 2022 ISEF 2022- 6th May 2022

Society for Science had shared the link to watch our student Niranjan’s participation in

the ISEF 2022 virtually which was shared with the parents of entire school community to get an exposure on the various events happening in the world and motivate their wards to participate in such events in future.

Career counselling session – 17th May 2022

Choosing the right path is much more important in life to set a correct career path. On this note, a career counselling Workshop was organised with our school career counsellor, Ms Chandra to guide the DP1 Students to have a clarify on career choices and list of universities.

Farewell Party for DP2 Outgoing students – 20th May 2022

As the Diploma programme examination came to an end on May 20, 2022, a well-planned farewell party was organized by our DP1 students and teachers to make the DP2 Students feel joyful for the memories placed by them in the school. DP2 students received a customized gift for them as a token of love and affection from all of us.
