Elk Grove Village Public Library n Summer 2022

From the Director’s DeskSpring has sprung and summer will soon be here! Inside this newsletter you will find a wide variety of offerings to enjoy during the warmer months ahead.

More blue skies are in EGVPL’s future! Our building’s original skylight will replaced with a new one in late August. The work is expected to take fifteen days to complete and should be finished by early September (fingers crossed). We thank you in advance for your cooperation during construction.

Speaking of lights, the Illumination Station is open in Youth Services. The funding for the purchase of this interactive light exhibit was provided by an extremely generous family in Elk Grove Village and the great Friends of the Library. We are grateful for this remarkable gift to the children.

The Library has received many notable gifts, and it recently returned the favor to someone special. On April 5, the Library’s Board of Trustees named the Confer-ence Room after Darlene Greaves, an early resident of Elk Grove Village who was instrumental in the formation of this library through her leadership and tireless fund-raising efforts. With her children and a wooden wagon in tow, Darlene went door-to-door asking for “a book and a buck” to start a library. Her commitment to our organi-zation did not stop there. She served as a library trustee from 1969- 1981 and became a lifetime member of the Friends of the Library in 1991. Darlene Greaves is an exceptional example of community service.

The Library now owns that vintage wagon. It is on display in the lobby, near the Darlene Greaves Conference Room. Please stop by to see this distinctive piece of our heritage. We hope you find it as inspiring as we do.

Have a wonderful summer – see you at the Library!

Your Library Director,Debra Nelson
