A man, believed to be in his 30s, was killed after being knocked down by a vehicle on the N12 in Zuurbekom, just outside Lanasia, on the morning of May 24.
When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene shortly before 6.30 am, they found the man lying next
to the road. Upon assessment, they found that he had sustained fatal injuries and he was declared dead at the scene.
“The exact circumstances sur-rounding the incident are not known to our paramedics, but the police were on the scene for fur-ther investigations,” said ER24’s Russel Meiring.
HE Ennerdale community is reel-ing in shock after a father “mis-takenly” shot his son, Luyanda Tshabalala, outside an Ennerdale
school on Tuesday, June 5. The incident took place after the man
had been waiting for his son who attended an extra study lesson at the Fred Norman Secondary School.
According to police, the 16-year-old’s death appears to be a tragic mistake. The father claimed that he thought that his son was a hijacker. He thought that he was go-ing to be robbed or hijacked. He pulled out
his licenced firearm and shot in the direc-tion of the boy and unfortunately, he hit the boy in the chest.
He tried to resuscitate the boy before tak-ing him to a hospital, but the boy died on the way.
The police’s Mpande Khoza said that a murder docket had been opened.
The Gauteng Department of Educa-tion MEC, Panyaza Lesufi, conveyed his condolences to the family and visited the school on Wednesday, June 6. The man, Emanuel Tshabalala appeared at the Le-nasia Magistrates court where he was re-leased on a warning on Thursday, June 7. The teen was laid to rest on Saturday, June 9, at the Olifantsvlei Cemetery.

15 people were injured in a four vehi-cle collision on the N1 highway, near the R57 turnoff, in Vanderbijlpark on May 28.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived at the scene shortly before 6am.
“A vehicle was found lying on its side across two lanes, while a taxi was found in the middle of the road. A panel van and a light motor vehicle were found parked on the side of the road,” said Russel Meiring of ER24.
“Several people were found either lying on the side of the road or walk-ing around the scene.”
Paramedics assessed the patients and found that one elderly man had sus-
tained numerous injuries, leaving him in a critical condition, while fourteen others had sustained minor to moder-ate injuries. Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically in-jured man with advanced life support interventions, before transporting all the patients to nearby hospitals.
According to Mr Meiring, the criti-cally injured man was airlifted by the ER24 Oneplan Helicopter to a hospi-tal in the area.
The driver of the panel van was al-legedly not found at the scene.
Local authorities are investigating the exact cause of the collision.

ON Sunday, June 3, at about 2.15 am, a white Nissan NP200 bakkie rolled and an Isuzu bak-kie suffered tyre damage after rocks were placed on the N12, near Lenasia, before the pedes-trian bridge.
It is reported that the Nissan NP200, which was travelling on the N12 West, heading towards Lenasia, hit a rock and then lost control.
“The Nissan NP200 entered the centre median, hit the con-crete barrier and rolled across both lanes of the N12 before coming to a halt in the ditch on the left hand side of the road,” said the N12 Risk Notice Team.
“The occupants were robbed of their cell ‘phones and wal-lets. A few minutes later a group of residents from the Slovo Park Informal Settlement assisted the victims in getting out of the vehicle.”
The driver sustained facial injuries, a dislocated shoulder
and fractured ribs. He and his passengers were transported to hospital by ambulance.
A few hundred meters ahead of the above incident, an Isuzu bakkie, which was also travel-ling on the N12 eastbound, hit a rock which damaged one of the tyres.
“The occupants of the other vehicle were not robbed,” stated the N12 Risk Notice Team.
The public is requested to re-port any suspicious activity on the N12 to JMPD on 011-375-5911 or GTP on 011-689-3712 or 011-689-3833.

BY REBECCA MOGALAGADIFOR three consecutive days, residents of Lenasia Ex-tension 9 and Extension 10, took to the streets to protest against power cuts and unplanned outages. Police moni-tored the protest where the K43 was blockaded with burn-ing tyres. Motorists were advised to use alternative routes.
According to the residents, the power cuts are a reccur-ring problem.
“It’s Ramadaan and we are fasting. When it’s time to break our fast then we experience power cuts,” said a resident.
Residents claim they have been experiencing electricity outages for the past three weeks, and for hours at a time.
“Our councillor has gone AWOL, hence we took to the streets. We started protesting on June 5, at about 6 pm and by 10 pm the power was restored. However, the following morning when we had to prepare for Sehri, there was no power.”
Councillor for the area, Ezekiel Tsotetsi, was not avail-able for comment at the time of going to press.

BY NEO SEKATIDEE Sheylian Lee, a year old, was given the opportunity to see the world as it is.
According to Dee’s grandfather, Leon Madramoothoo, Dee was born blind. An operation was performed to improve his eyesight, however, after the operation he needed spectacles to improve his vision.
“After we were told that the spec-tacles would cost over R2 000, the family lost all hope. We thought that Dee would never have normal eye-sight,” said Madramoothoo.
“I was attending prayers at a temple when I met Mr Raj Maharaj of the Rising Sun. I explained to him about my grandson’s situation. He said that in order for the Rising Sun to assist, a quote covering the total cost of the spectacles was needed.
“Maharaj then gave me Dr Anusha Sukha’s contact details in order for me to obtain a quotation.”
According to Mr Madramoothoo, Dr Anusha Sukha of Optical Con-nection in Lenasia Extension 5 ex-amined Dee and the family was told to return on a certain date.
On the day that Mr Madramoothoo went to collect the quotation, how-ever, he was surprised when he was handed the spectacles instead of the quotation.
“When I asked Dr Sukha how much the spectacles cost, she told me that she was helping Dee and there was no cost involved.
“I would like to thank Raj Maha-raj of the Rising Sun and Dr Anusha Sukha of Optical Connection for giv-ing my grandson the best gift ever, his eyesight,” said Madramoothoo.

ON March 8, the Rising Sun visited the Lena-sia Post office after receiving numerous com-plaints concerning the state the facility had been in - three months down the line, and not much has changed.
Once again, residents contacted the Rising Sun offices in a bid to get the facility cleaned.
Grass is still overgrown at the front and the stench of urine permeates the air.
A narrow pathway leading to the postboxes was evidence of the danger faced by many who collect their mail after hours.
The Post Office windows are still broken and the faded signs still make it seem as though the facility is no longer in use.
At the time, An e-mail was sent to Mr Johan Kruger, of the Post Office Communications Department, following a telephonic conversa-tion during which he promised to contact the area manager and contact the Rising Sun with comment.
Kruger told the Rising Sun that the SA Post Office was in the process of procuring a gar-den Maintenance Service. However, it seems this was not done.
Kruger was contacted for comment on Fri-day, June 8, he did not respond to an email sent by the publication, neither did he take any calls.

Happy Father’s Day W E D A D
SOMETIMES, a store-bought gift just doesn’t send the perfect message for Father’s Day. Instead of buying something from the store, crafty mothers and children can make their own Father’s Day gifts at home. fathers will love getting a unique gift that was made with love by their families.
Mini Mint Tin ToolboxesTurn the classic Altoids tin into an adorable
mini toolbox that’s perfect for Father’s Day. The tin is the ideal size for holding small items such as coins, nuts and bolts, and other on-the-go supplies.
Moustache MugDress up a boring porcelain mug with a
cheeky moustache that brings some charac-ter to his morning. All you needs is a plain mug, a sharpie, a mustache stencil (if you don’t trust your own drawing skills), and a porcelain paint pen, which you can find at most craft stores.
Father’s Day PicnicLeave the fancy dining for another day,
and instead enjoy a casual picnic on Father’s Day. Pack a picnic hamper with all the essen-tials, plus a few embellishments you and the children create.Head out to Dad’s favourite outdoor spot (or the backyard) for a fun and stress-free meal.
I Love You This Much CardShow Dad how much he’s loved with this
cute craft that’s easy for children of any age to create. All you need is some paper, scissors, glue, and a marker or some print-outs for the lettering.
Jumbo Tape DispenserDad has several varieties of tape in his work-
shop, and chances are he can never find the one he needs when he needs it. Create a jumbo tape dispenser that helps him keep all his tapes organized and ready.
Father’s Day is celebrated worldwide to rec-ognise the contribution that fathers and father figures make to the lives of their children. This day celebrates fatherhood and male parenting. Although it is celebrated on a variety of dates worldwide, many countries observe this day on the third Sunday in June.
On Father’s Day many people make a special effort for their fathers or father figures.
Some people visit their grandfathers, while others give cards, flowers or other gifts, such as clothing or sporting equipment, or luxury food items. Father's Day is a relatively mod-ern idea, so different families have different traditions.
As we celebrate Father’s Day, we thought it would be appropriate to give the following ba-sic, yet important tips to the fathers;
• Spend time with your child• Discipline with love and positive parenting• Be your child's role model.• Earn the right to be heard• Be your child's teacher• Eat together as a family• Read to your child• Respect the other parent of your child.• Seek involvement early in the child's life

WHAT was meant to be a peaceful protest to topple the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad has turned into a civil war. Al-Assad succeed-ed his late father Hafez in 2000.
The war has been going on for more than 7 years. Many countries that are against the civil war, have also intervened in the Syrian war. This makes it difficult for the peacekeepers to retain normalcy. Thousands of people have lost their lives in the war.
As the saying goes, ‘When two bulls fight, it is the grass that suffers’, civilians in Syria can attest to the aforementioned. Basic needs are scarce, infrastructures have been destroyed.
The Syrian people are now relying on inter-national communities to assist them with basic needs to survive.
South Africans are also playing their part through various organisations. Recently, Saaberie Chishty in partnership with Muslim
Hands South Africa under the theme ‘The Big Aid Convoy’ collected four containers of basic needs which included rice, flour and oth-er food items. These four containers together with other containers from different provinces will be shipped to Syria.
Speaking to the Rising Sun during the hando-ver, Ismail Fakee, Muslim Hands South Africa accounts manager said, “We are running this campaign throughout the country. The cam-paign was held for ten days during this month of Ramadaan because Muslims are giving their Zakhaat and Fitra. We are doing this in conjunction with the United Kingdom. They will also be shipping out twenty five contain-ers to Syria”.
Moulana Sayed Yusuf of Saaberie Chishty, conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the Mus-lim community for their selfless efforts. He said their target was one container, however, the response from people were more positive. He said they exceeded their target. He urged
the Muslim community to continue with their good deeds for the good course.

Let the greatest show on the planet beginBy Mark Kinnear It is the most-watched, best-attend-ed sports event in the world.
Almost half of the world’s popula-tion live patiently through the long cycle of decisions of host country, qualifying, disappointment and ec-stasy, for one summer month every four years when the planet revolves around an inflatable ball, 70 centi-metres in circumference.
The 2018 Fifa World Cup will be played in Russia from 14 June to 15 July, 2018.
Bafana Bafana will not be there. But millions of South Africans will watch every match, choose their secondary teams to support and experience the thrill of the highest possible level the beautiful game can be played. This thanks to DStv which will broadcast all 64 matches, and SABC TV which will televise 44 games live.
Over 3.2 billion people in the
world watched the 2014 World Cup tournament on television; one bil-lion watched the final.
There have already been shocks and heartbreak leading up to Russia 2018. Italy, Holland and Chile did not qualify. Iran, Panama and Iceland did.
Many South Africans have cho-sen to support one of the African countries in the finals. Nigeria is the overwhelming favourite, being the only sub-Saharan African team to qualify they are our “nearest neighbour”.
South Africans with ancestral roots in Europe will be supporting their teams. Portugal and England will no doubt have an army of local fans each.
The tournament will kick-off with hosts Russia facing Saudi Arabia at the Luhzniki Stadium in Moscow on Thursday 14 June. A further 47 matches will take place in the eight groups of four teams each.
The top two teams in each group will qualify for the knockout stage. This will consist of a round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final which will take place at the 81 000-capacity Luhzniki Stadium on Sunday 15 July. There will also be the match no one cares about - the third/fourth place play-off - on 14 July at St Petersburg Stadium.
The favourites to raise the FIFA World Cup Trophy are Germany, Brazil, Belgium, Portugal, Argentina and France. Spain, Denmark and a young England side will believe they are in with a chance. Tunisa and Senegal are Africa’s two best bets.
The miracle of live satellite tele-vision gives every South African a pitch-side seat for the World Cup 2018 tournament. Russia might be 15 000 kilometres away but the 2018 FIFA World Cup in in your living room. It’s going to be a month a soccer sensation – enjoy every moment.

WIN!
THE Soccer Studio is a brand new soccer development centre for players aged 5 – 9 years old.
The soccer studio, previously known and operated as Hola Skoko Football Acade-my, has seen the need for a development centre in Lenasia.
The reason for the name change is due to the fact that even though the academy was called “Football Academy” and was a centre for development, it was not offer-ing services such as accommodation and academic facilities which would warrant the name football academy (See SAFA Regulations on Football Academies – Ap-proved by the NEC ON August 26, 2016). Requests had been received Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, Columbia and Portugal to join the academy and make use of the services provided.
Unfortunately, the academy could not house these players and that was a cause for concern. SAFA also has strict rules re-garding academies and Hola Skoko could see that it would not meet the require-ments of a fully-fledged academy and therefore needed rebranding and a name change.
The Junior Section has now been named “The Soccer Studio” and operates as a soccer development centre for players who play for clubs, as well as those who want to learn the basics before joining a club. Players’ techniques are assessed and corrected, if need be, to ensure a bet-ter rounded footballer.
The Hola Skoko FC is a subsidiary to the Hola Skoko Football Academy fran-chise and had to change its name as well, due to the confusion caused by the word “academy”.
Hola Skoko FC is where the club plays all the competitive fixtures for the age groups from 11 years to senior level.
This is where the club starts sending players out on trial. Hola Skoko FC boasts under 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 teams and a promotion team which plays in the SAFA Soweto Central Stream. All Hola Skoko FC teams play in the Deep South LFA (lo-cal football association).
Even though the name has changed, both the Soccer Studio and Hola Skoko FC strive to give the same benefits as that of an academy from a football develop-ment point of view.
The range of services remains the same and, most importantly, the quality of coaching remains at a high level to ensure that players are given the correct tools to succeed in football.
The Soccer Studio caters for the under 5s to the 9 year olds.
Hola Skoko FC caters for the under 11s, 13s , 15s ,17s , 19s and for seniors

WIN!FIFA fever is in the air. While we hope for an injury free tournament, sports injuries are however common. Dipna Morar, Phys-io4You decided to use this opportunity to highlight the role of physiotherapy in sports injuries.
Physiotherapy and Sports Injuries.Physiotherapy plays an integral part
in the multi-disciplinary approach to the management of sports injuries. The aim of physiotherapy is to treat and fully rehabili-tate the athlete post-injury, post-surgery, to prevent further injury and to return the athlete to sport in the shortest possible time.
Prompt assessment and diagnosis is vi-tal in the successful treatment and reha-bilitation of sports injuries. X-Rays, Sonar or MRI Scans may be needed to confirm the diagnosis.
Goals of treatment and rehabilitation1. Protect the injured tissues to allow
healing and to control the early and im-portant inflammatory phase.
2. Rehabilitate flexibility, strength, propri-oception, muscle imbalance, and support physical activities with the aid of taping and splinting.
3. Sport-specific activities will be tested according to a Return-to-sport to ensure the athlete can return to sport safely.
If proper rehabilitation is not undertaken, the athlete may be competing too soon, with residual instability, muscle weakness and biomechanical imbalances. At Dipna Morar, Physio4You, individual programs are planned for each athlete. This would include sport-specific exercises, adapta-tion to new postures to correct muscle im-balance, pain and swelling management, taping and strapping and a home exercise maintenance program. We have a fully equipped gym and a trained sports thera-pist to manage your condition profession-ally and holistically.

I’tikaaf(1) I’tikaf means to stay in the Musjid with
the niyyat of I’tikaf for the sake of Allah Ta’ala. The purpose of such stay in the Mus-jid is ibadat and to gain proximity to Allah Ta’ala.
The types of I’tikaafThere are three types of I’tikaf: Wajib, Sun-
natul Muakkadah and Nafl.Wajib I’tikaafAn I’tikaf of Nathr(vow) and a Qadha I’tikaf
are Wajib (compulsory) I’ltikaf.Sunnatul Muak-Kadah ItikaafI’tikaf of the last ten days of Ramadhan
is the only Masnoon I’tikaf. This Masnoon I’tikaf is Sunnatul Muak-kadah alal Kifayah. If a few or even just one person observes this I’tikaf in a particular area/neighbourhood, the duty will be discharged on behalf of the entire community of that locality. On the other-hand, if no one observes this I’tikaf, the whole community will be guilty of neglect-ing a Sunnatul Muakkadah obligation. Such neglect is sinful.
(1) The Mu’takif (the one who observes I’tikaf will enter the Musjid before sunset of the 20th day of Ramadhan.
(2) The Mu’takif will remain in the Musjid, until the sighting of the Eid hilal is confirmed.
(3) Niyyat (making intention) is a necessary condition for Masnoon I’tikaf as well.
(4) If the Masnoon I’tikaf is broken or nulli-fied, qadha of it is obligatory.
The venue for I’tikaaf(1) For men, I’tikaf is valid in only a Musjid
in which Athan and Iqamah are proclaimed for the five daily Salat. In other-words it has

to be a Musjid in which the five daily Salats are performed with Jama’t.
(2) Females can observe I’tikaf in a place in their homes, set aside for Salat or specially cordoned off for the purpose of I’tikaf.
(3) It is not permissible for women to come to the Musjid to observe I’tikaf or to perform Salat or to listen to lectures.
(4) The Musjid here refers to the Musjid proper and not to the annexures or adjacent buildings erected for the needs of the Musjid or Musallees.
The Musjid proper is that section of the building which was intended by the Waqif to be the Musjid.
(Waqif is the person or organization who erected the Musjid, and demarcated the Mus-jid boundaries).
(5) Most Musajid have a section at the back, which in most cases is under the same roof, but is excluded from the Musjid proper. Janazah Salat and sometimes a second Jama’t by late-comers are performed in this section. Since this section of the building is excluded from the Musjid proper, it is not permissible for the Mu’takif to venture unnecessarily into that area. If he does, his I’tikaf will be ren-dered void.
(6) The Mu’takif should ascertain from the Mutawallis (trustees) the exact boundaries of the Musjid.
(7) The wudhu Khanah, courtyard, store-rooms and any other adjacent buildings are all excluded from the Musjid.
(8) It is essential that the Mu’takif remains inside the Musjid, or inside the special place set aside at home (for women) throughout the duration of the I’tikaf.
Leaving the place of I’tikaf unnecessarily for even a minute will render the I’tikaf null and void.
VALID REASONS FOR LEAVING THE MUSJID AND WHICH WILL NOT BREAK THE I’TIKAF
It is permissible to leave the Musjid for the following acts of need:
(1) To answer the call of nature – to go to the toilet.
(2) To pass wind.(3) To take an obligatory bath.(4) To make wudhu.(5) Juma’h Salat, if Juma’h Salat is not per-
formed in the Musjid where the I’tikaf is be-ing observed. In this case the Mu’takif should leave the Musjid at such a time to enable him to reach the other Musjid in time to perform his Sunnat Salat. He should leave immedi-ately after having completed the six raka’ts Sunnats after the Fardh Salat. He should not delay for Dua and Thikr.
(6) To proclaim the Athan, if he is the Muath-thin. This is permissible for even a Mu’takif who is not the permanent Muath-thin.
(7) To bring food if there is no one to tend to this need of his.
(8) If one is compelled to leave the Musjid either because of danger or forceful eviction, one may immediately proceed to another Musjid. To continue with the I’tikaf an un-necessary delay in the process of changing Musjids is not permissible and will break the I’tikaf. When leaving the Musjid for the above mentioned reasons, the Mu’takif must return to the Musjid immediately after having fulfilled the need. An unnecessary delay of even a minute will break the l’tikaf.

Organisations that were in attend-ance and pledged their support in-cluded the Lenasia Rising Sun, East-wave Radio, Johannesburg Institute of Social Services (Jiss), Sanca Nishtara, City of Johannesburg - Region G, Le-thal Forces Security, Nisaa Institute for Women’s Development, Tiba Ser-vices for the Blind, Councillor Zarina Motala and Warm Committee member Zahid Jainoodeen. Other supporters include the Ask Nanima Foundation, MC Security, Lenasia Yuvak Mandal, Region G – Disaster Management, Azaadville Muslim School and the Gandhi Walk Committee.
Organisations were requested to lend a helping hand in ensuring the success of Operation Winter Warm. Those present agreed to support the initiative in a number of ways includ-ing assisting with volunteers, trans-port, food for volunteers and serving as dropping off points on the collec-tion days.
The Foundation’s Dawood Raphala-lane said that through the stakeholder engagement meeting, it was hoped that this year’s Operation Winter Warm would be a “truly community driven initiative”. “Our community has an opportunity to get together and show our commitment to helping those in need. We recognise that pov-erty is a huge issue in South Africa, and that through Operation Winter Warm, we won’t eliminate the prob-lem, but we can make a small differ-ence in making winter more bearable for the under privileged who will ben-efit from the proceeds.”
Raphalalane urged other organisa-tions, churches, temples, mosques, sports and other clubs in Lenasia and Lenasia South to be part of this initiative.
“We want you to get in touch with us and let us know if you can help mobilise volunteers to assist with the door-to-door collections, with the
sorting of items and with logistics and transport on the day. While the initiative is youth lead, we welcome volunteers of all ages.”
Raphalalane fur-ther encouraged or-ganisations to chal-lenge each other in collecting books, non-perishable food items, blankets and clothing and to drop this off at the Foun-dation from now onwards, or at the Lenasia Cricket Sta-dium Glass House on June 23 and 24.
As part of this year’s Operation Win-ter Warm, the Lenasia Yuvak Mandal will also be coordinating a blanket drive in keeping with the legacy of anti-apartheid struggle veteran, La-loo ‘Isu’ Chiba. He was an ardent supporter of Operation Winter Warm and every year without fail, would buy blankets for various needy people during the cold winter months. Chiba passed away last year at the age of 87, the initiative therefore aims to collect over 87 blankets to be distributed to provide warmth for the impoverished.
Operation Winter Warm is an annual youth lead initiative that the Kathrada Foundation coordinates. In its 6th year, the initiative has benefited various homes catering for underprivileged children and victims of shack fires and other disasters.
Residents are encouraged to drop off items at the Lenasia Cricket Stadium Glass House, Hummingbird Street, Ext 1, on June 23 and 24.
Other drop off points on the day include:
Jiss – 5 Suikerbos, Ext 3,Lenasia Tiba -Corner Nirvana Drive and Sas-
tri Close, Ext 13, Lenasia Lenasia Rising Sun – 164 Rose Ave,

BY NEO SEKATIThe SADTU-Lenasia Branch held its elec-
tions last Thursday, May 31, and saw a new executive committee coming into office after a tense contest with the former leadership of the local teachers’ union.
The new teacher leadership is:• Chairperson - Hasani Ronald Baloyi• Deputy chairperson - Fatima Gani• Secretary - Khazamula Maluleke • Deputy Secretary- Niresha Naidoo• Treasurer - Mashudu Sinthumolle• Education Desk - Janet’s Mooketsi Mothupi• Gender - Thuli Nkosi• Sports, Arts and Culture - Gerald Isaacs. Only Mr Maluleke and Ms Nkosi were re-
turned to office from the previous executive committee. Mr Maluleke is the principal of Apex Primary School, where parents protest-ed last week about the filthy conditions at the school. The incident was reported in the Ris-ing Sun. The previous SADTU election was cancelled amid allegations of death threats and a lack of financial accountability. Once again, no financial records were presented at the re-cent elective meeting.

Firstly, I would like to commend the staff at the Lenasia Extension 3 Library, for their excellence. We the community, receive the best possible treatment and service from them at all times.
However, it seems that their computers are always out of service.
We, the community and the learners from neighbouring schools, are frustrated be-cause we are not able to complete our pro-jects timeously.
We do appreciate the free service. How-ever it seems the centre is always offline.
Our children need your intervention, as this problem is hampering their work.
Concerned Shane Valoo.

ENASIA School Sports hosted a mini “World Cup” on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Tigers Grounds. In total, 24 schools from Lenasia and
surrounding areas participated. The U9, U12 and U15 teams participated in a very competitive and challenging tourna-ment, which used the same format as the World Cup, beginning with group stages followed by a knockout.
The U9 team encountered some stiff com-petition, but with grit and determination the team was able to finish at the top of its group.
The team lost in the quarter finals to St Martins School from Ennerdale.
The score was 2 – 1. The U12 team played very well but unfor-
tunately did not proceed to the net round of the competition.
The team played 3 games, won 1 and lost 2. The U15 team had the responsibility of defending the title it had won in 2014.
The team played admirably and finished at the top of its group.
In the semi-finals, the team beat Ridgeway Muslim School 2-0.
In the finals LMS came up against the
much fancied Nirvana High School, who had earlier beaten the favourites, Lenz High, in the semi-finals, on a penalty shoot-out.
The final was tense with both teams hav-ing shots at goal.
LMS forwards were able to pass the op-ponents’ defence and score. The final score was 1-0. LMS was crowned winners for the second time.
Well done to all the boys who participated and who did the school proud.

JAYANT Valab on behalf of St James Prepar-atory School has taken the initiative to walk from Johannesburg to Durban in a bid to raise funds for school fee subsidies and bursaries so that more children can receive a unique St James education.
“We emphasise critical thinking, so that our children can seek real understanding. I am walking to Durban because I believe in what we are doing at St James Preparatory School. I want to see as many children as possible see their divine sparks lit, and then flourish in the world because of what we are doing together here,” said Mr Valab.
Mr Valab will be walking the 720 km jour-ney despite the small hindrance of walking this distance with a pacemaker. He will be on the road for 3 weeks, starting on August 9th. He will walk six hours daily equating to 30km per day.
“Our mission is to make this a journey of spiritual knowledge, accessible to as many children as possible, and for the St James Marathon Walk to be a success. I would like to see an increasing number of adults and chil-dren from our surrounding communities par-ticipate in the universal namaste greeting to one another and go on to develop their spirits, minds and bodies through the advantage of a St James education. The ultimate aim is for nurturing lifelong truth, love and service,” Mr Valab said.
