Three are the main primers associated with the different coatings. They are: MasterSeal P 385,
multifuncion primer; MasterTop P 686W, epoxy water primer; MasterTop P 604, epoxy primer
2. Primers
Table of the consumption MasterSeal P 385 for different applications
Table for choosing the right primer for the intended use
2.1 MasterSeal P 385: multifuncion primer
MasterSeal P 385 is a three component primer based on epoxy-polyamide resins in water emulsion, hydraulic
binders, siliceous aggregates and specific additives. Easily applied with a trowel, brush, roller or spray, it is a
membrane permeable to water vapor but impermeable to water pressure (both negative and positive) and to
capillary rising moisture. It consists in:
A and B components epoxy resins water based:
component C, reactive filler for low thickness (up to 1 mm);
component D, reactive filler for high thickness applications (from 2 up to 40 mm). The component D may
also be used mixed with water only as regularization surface quick-drying mortar.
2.2 MasterTop P 686 W
MasterTop P 686W is a low viscosity water-based epoxy primer,. It is used mainly in the case of
prefabricated concrete tanks or above grade tanks (not subject to capillary rising moisture).
2.3 MasterTop P 604
MasterTop P 604 is low viscosity epoxy primer typicaly used for outdoor applications.

Belongs to this family MasterSeal M 808 two-component polyurethane solvent free glossy finish,
crack bridging class A4, high chemical resistance certified according to the DM 174 06/04/2004
(Regulation of materials and objects that can be used in treatment, supply and distribution of
water intended for human consumption).
MasterSeal M 689 is a two-component sprayed applied polyuria, crack bridging class A5, high chemical
resistance certified according to the DM 174 06/04/2004 (Regulation of materials and objects that can

MasterSeal M 310, M391, M 740, M 808, M 689 can be applied on:
concrete: even damp or subject to rising damp;
glass surfaces such as ceramic tiles and stoneware;
old epoxy or polyurethane coatings properly cleaned, degreased and roughened;
steel (only MasterSeal M 391, M 808, M 740 and M 689).
In the case of good concrete support, the surface should be prepared by sandblasting, sanding or
grinding. Atre specific techniques can also be used in specific cases (the choice of the same is to be
assessed following a visit to the construction site).
In the case of damaged concrete support, provide for the removal of contaminated concrete and
inconsistent and then resthours / regularization with:
MasterSeal P 385 (Comp. A + Comp. B + 2 x Comp. D + 10% water), or with:
MasterSeal P 385 Comp. D + 17.5% water;
whose solutions enable you to achieve high early strength (24-48 hours) and its quick drying times is ideal
to speed up the execution of the subsequent processing of resin coatings. To resthours the standard
concrete with any mortars line MasterEmaco please consult BASF Technical Service for the correct choice
of the ideal product for the specific case.

The construction joints must be respected and sealed with MasterSeal NP 474 sealant.
De-dusted surface thoroughly befhours proceeding with the application of the material. Pre-wet highly
absorbent surfaces with water befhours application of MasterSeal P 385. Remove any excess water
with rags or air jets. MasterSeal systems can not be applied in situations of water coming in counter
pressure. In this case it is necessary to provide drainage and then block the coming water with the fast
setting MasterSeal 590 mortar. In the event that you encounter any patches still wet, apply one or two
coats of MasterSeal P 385 after 48-72 hours
In the case of the steel support, MasterSeal M 391 and M 808 do not require a primer (MasterSeal M
310 cannot be applied on steel support). These surfaces must be blasted to SIS Sa 3 (SSPC - SP 5) with
profile equal to the rank of No. 11 Rugotest No. 3.

The application can take place when the ambient temperature is between + 5 ° C and + 40 ° C.
Below are the basic guidelines for primers MasterSeal P 385 and MasterTop P 686W and coatings
MasterSeal M 310, M391 and M 808. Standard consumption for each system is also reported.

Apply the material always in two coats (16-24 hours of each other). MasterSeal P 385 kit “ABC” (Comp.A
Comp.B +Comp.C) is abrasive, so it is advisable to use membrane airless pumps.
During the application of the product, keep under constant stirring. As is usually the case for in aqueous
dispersion does not work under the direct action of the sun, wind, fog or high humidity, with danger of rain or
frost.
The film formed from this product requires a 7 day period at a temperature of 20 ° C and 65% to end the
process of hydration and become suitable for the service under the intended conditions. However, it can be
coated with epoxy or polyurethane coatings already after, and not befhours, 48 hours in conditions of good
ventilation (check for each specific case that the surface moisture is less than or equal to 4%).

Mixing: before mixing to bring the components A and B to a temperature between 15 and 25 ° C. Pour
the entire contents of part B into the container of Part A. It is not permitted to mixing by hand. Mix with
electric very low speed mixer (ca. 300 round / min) for not less than 3 minutes. Scrape the sides and
the bottom of the container several times to obtain a total mixing. The blades of the mixer must always
be immersed in the product to avoid introducing air bubbles. Do not work outside of the original
container. After obtaining a homogeneous consistency, pour the resin into a new container and mix for
another minute. The primer may be diluted with water to a maximum of 20%;
Application: after mixing roller to apply the primer. After application, to protect the material from
contact with water for at least 8 hours at 20 ° C. The eventual premature contact with water leads to
the formation of clear spots (carbamate formation) and / or to a system sticky that affect the adhesion
of subsequent products.

Cleaning the surface before service: MasterSeal M 391, as most of the epoxy compounds, has
a certain sensitivity to atmospheric moisture which manifests itself in a particular manner at low
temperatures. Therefore it is advisable to provide recirculation of air in the place of application and
provide to keep the environment at levels of low relative humidity (preferably <50%) and temperatures>
10-15 ° C.In the presence of high humidity can be present phenomena of light bleaching and sweating;
these defects, purely superficial, must be strictly removed before the commissioning of the tanks
through the washing procedure. Before starting the service of the tank, it is advisable to wait respectively
(23°C) at least 7 days after application. Check in each case if the Shore D hardness has still reached
the value finale.Prima to fill the tanks with the food it is essential to wash the same with a solution of
10% aqueous caustic soda to disinfect surfaces and remove any salts present. It then proceeds with a
thorough rinsing with hot water. This process may result in a slight loss of gloss film which, however, is
not going to change the technical features.

10.6 MasterSeal M 391 Yellow and Red for wine tanks
Application: mix the two components before use by continuing to stir. The product has a limited pot
life and high viscosity at low temperatures. For these reasons it can be applied with a roller for small
surfaces only and therefore for small quantities taking care to mix only part of the package and bring it
to a temperature of at least 35°C. Admitted dilution only with food grade alcohol. It is applied by airless
spray but only equipped with 2-mixer type WIWA DUOMIX Series 230 WIWA FlexiMix II, Graco XM 70 or
equivalent. We always recommend the application in a single coat, with a consumption of 0.6 kg/m2.
