MAMMOMAT NovationDR utilizes the latest full-field detector technology based on amorphousselenium (a-Se). The new flat panel detectoruses a photoconductor to absorb the X-raysand directly generate the electrical signalwithout any intermediate steps. This direct-to-digital technology yields excellent imagequality.

The digital detector of MAMMOMAT NovationDR

provides excellent image quality with minimaldose. The large format size with 24 cm x 29 cmallows imaging of almost all breast sizes. Thefield of view for both large- and small-formatimages adjusts automatically to the compres-sion plate in use. In addition, both 1.5 and1.8 magnifications are possible with only onemagnification table.

Image quality in mammography greatlydepends on the characteristics of the X-ray tube.MAMMOMAT systems offer three anode/filtercombinations at the tube head to perfectlymatch breast density and thickness: Mo/Mo,Mo/Rh and W/Rh.

With dual-target Tungsten tube technology andthe high mA output, MAMMOMAT NovationDR

features the possibility to examine even densebreasts with shorter exposure times andsignificantly reduced dose.

To maximize patient comfort, the flat paneldetector of MAMMOMAT NovationDR featuresrounded edges and the revolutionary OpfocusTM

compression plate. Opfocus allows centralpositioning of the breast and the most efficientuse of the detector area. This new compressiontechnique excludes no information andallows a larger area of the pectoral muscleto be included in the image.

To take full advantage of the benefits of digitalmammography, Siemens has developedtwo dedicated workstations for MAMMOMATNovationDR. These ideally matched units,Acquisition Workstation (AWS) andMammoReportPlus softcopy reportingworkstation, combine with MAMMOMATNovationDR to provide an ideal, comprehensivesystem solution for clinical processes inmammography. Through DICOM compatibility,the patient data is readily stored in existingclinical archives of any scale or printed asneeded.

DICOM functions such as send, query/retrieveand worklist support enable a smooth andstreamlined workflow. Access to reports,examination requests and other patient-dataprovides complete information for qualifiedreporting. Siemens know-how and experiencein IT systems means fully integrated solutions.Thus, radiology information systems suchas Novius or MagicSAS can run on the samehardware platform as the workstations.

Siemens also offers a wide range of archivingsolutions to meet an organization’s individualneeds for low, medium or high patient volume.Archiving solutions range from MagicStore forhigh patient volumes to MagicView 300 withDVD as the storage medium for low patientvolumes.

Demographic data is gathered from RIS viaDICOM Worklist or entered manually. Accessto previous images and reports is possibleat any time. After patient positioning, theexposure is initiated at the control unit whilethe generated images are displayed at theAWS. Here, post-processing is handled andannotations can be added.

Immediately afterward, the entire patientstudy is transferred to the MammoReportPlus

for detailed reporting. The patient studycan be stored in the clinical archive and/orbe documented on film or paper.

MammoReportPlus yields exceptionaladvantages. The entire softcopy reading andreporting process, from initial image displayto image processing and reporting, can betailored to specific needs. MammoReportPlus

is the first dedicated workstation for mammo-graphy with the following important features:
