In a world filled with injustice and complex challenges, Sophia Girls’ College is preparing people
who are committed to make a difference in the lives of others.The outreach programmeof the
College aims to improve the quality of life of the disadvantaged sections of society. The basic
motive behind this social initiative is to link people with resources, services and opportunities.

community together in partnership to share resources, meet social needs and to help educate people.

SophiaCollege believes that it is the collective responsibility of each individual to preserve the
world we live in and thus ithas adapted many sustainable practices on campus. The Eco-friendly
initiatives of the Institution are as follows-
Go Green Initiative: The College has a lush green campus and regularly organizes Tree
Plantation Drives in the monsoon season.
Solar Energy Production: - Nearly 62% power requirement of College is met by solar
power plant (344 solar panels) generating an astonishing amount of 100 KWH of electricity.
This is done through 18 individual solar street lights illumine the campus at night. The
surplus electricity production is provided to the government departments.
Biogas plant: This plant provides us eco-friendly fuel and solar steam cooking systemin the
College hostel which is used for cooking purposes.
Rain Water Harvesting System: The rain water is stored in wells and also used in
Chemistry labs as distilled water .
Car-pooling is practiced occasionally by the Staff and students to reduce carbon emission.
Usage of Bicycle is encouraged amongst both Staff and students. Such initiatives are
certified and well appreciated.
Organic Farming is practiced wherein organic fruits and vegetables are cultivated on
Campus.
The College has a Vermi compost pit to convert the dry leaves into suitable manure for the
gardens.
The students from the Department of Science regularly undertake Flora and Fauna Audits.
Students were encouraged to install Sparrow Houses in the campus to prevent the species
from going extinct.
Numerous extracurricular activities are organized by the different departmental Forums and
Clubs to maintain the scenic beauty of the Sophian Campus promoting the usage of renewable
energy sources.
