DEFINITIONS

• General Air Traffic (GAT): Civil and military flights conducted in accordance

with the rules and the regulations of the ICAO and/or issued by the Italian

civil aviation authority.

• Operational Air Traffic (OAT): SO flights that, for military, technical or State

reasons do not comply with the provision stated for General Air Traffic

(GAT).

• VOAT (Visual OAT), flight missions operating according to operational vfr.

• IOAT (Instrument OAT), flight missions operating according to operational

instrument flight rules.

• Weapons Engagement Zone (WEZ), consists of defined dimensions of

airspace within which the responsibility for engagement normally rests with

a particular weapon system. These include fighter engagement zones (FEZs),

various types of missile engagement zones (MEZs), and joint engagement

zones (JEZs). Design of the WEZ depends on specific weapons system

capabilities. The area air defense commander defines the WEZ.

• Contact point. the position at which a mission leader makes radio contact

with an air control agency

• Control Point:

o 1) A position marked by coordinates (latitude, longitude), a conspicuous

terrain feature, or other identifiable object which is given a name or

number and used as an aid to navigation or control.

o 2) The farthest limit of the attack aircraft’s route of fight prior to control

by the final controller.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

Participants are requested to have “basic knowledge” regarding the following items:

• Types of control (type1/2/3), Method of attack (bot/boc/show of force)

• Target acquisition (marks/talk-on)

• CP/IP description (pre-determinated/keyhole/grid map/lat-long etc)

• Holdings (racetrack/figure 8/wheel orbit)

• Check-in briefing format, Game plan

• 9-line briefing format, BDA

• Brevity words, Authentication Procedure

If you are not familiar with Close Air Support we strongly recommend you to attend

the event as observer!

EVENT SCENARIO

Since 2010 Freedom land has acquired his independence from Mirto and Ferru

regions. In the last years Freedom land has significantly increased production of

renewable energy. Last month Ferru region declared the intention to Invade and

subdue Freedom region to acquire the entire production. Two weeks ago Ferru Army

crossed the national boundary taking control of the renewable power plants located

in Oristano and Pedasdefogu. Freedom land asked for help of Mirto and Allies in

order to re-establish control.

In case of adverse weather, the event will be carried out simulating the VMC

MISSIONS DESCRIPTION

4.1. OPERATION SNOWDROP

Ferru Army has positioned a tank platoon in support of a ground company at Frasca

near Oristano powerplant.

The coalition has already reduced their capabilities. You have been tasked for a

scheduled CAS to support our battalion fighting against Ferru Army your final

controller will be GLADIATOR. Last intelligence information report a low S/A threat due

to possible MANPADS (SA-7).

Perdasdefogu near Quirra powerplant.

The coalition has already reduced their capabilities. You have been tasked for a

scheduled CAS to support our battalion fighting against Ferru Army your final

controller will be COBRA. Last intelligence information report a low S/A threat due to

MISSION OBJECTIVES

• Complete at least 1 successful attack

• You will attack within 3 minutes from the 9-line acknowledgment.

• A maximum of two aircrafts per formation are allowed. In case of low S/A threat

reported plan to stay out of WEZ.

• Plan to stay within the assigned areas

GND PROCEDURES

Taxiing:

-TORNADO will taxi with the wings

positioned at 45°. Wings can be positioned

at 25° prior to take off once well clear of

apron area and any parked aircraft.

Approval to enter or cross the secondary

runway is mandatory.

Taxi from Whiskey:

-Crews must declare type of live weapon.

Arming /Dearming RWY 17L/35R:

Normally taxiways A (Backup is taxiway B)

and H (Backup is taxiway G) will be used for

arming.

Normally taxyways B and G are used for

Dearming

Arming/ Dearming RWY 17R/35L:

Use the last portion of taxiway N and S for arming/dearming. Use appropriate

continuous yellow lines on taxiway N. Since yellow lines are missing on taxiway S, line

up the aircraft to the northeast, aiming approximately at W apron.

During arming and dearming, all weapons safety switches must be in the “safe” position

and hands clear.

Takeoff

-Formation takeoffs are allowed on both runways in accordance with the aircraft’s

operating procedure.

-Takeoffs will only be granted, when crews indicate a safe canopy position with the call

“Canopy down and locked”.

-The use of afterburner below 5000ft outside any A/A or A/G Airspace is prohibited

except for initial takeoff and for safety reasons.
