ISM in a Nutshell

ISM International community

ISM Today

ISM University of Management and Economics was established in 1999 as the first privately owned University in Lithuania. The main founders of ISM are the BI Norwegian Business School (Norway), the largest business school in Europe, and the Innovation Norway (former Norwegian Industrial and Regional Development Fund).

ISM University of Management and Economics is becoming more and more international each year attracting students from all over the world.

Being open to the best global experience has been important for ISM ever since it was founded. ISM was the first in Lithuania to introduce the Western tradition of business studies. Today the university not only draws on this knowledge, it also supplies the international community with information about the dynamic business environment of the Baltic States.

Students are registered to courses by ISM international studies coordinators. All the courses have quotas for international students therefore students are registered on the first come first serve basis - the quicker student sends the Learning Agreement, the better are the chances to get the seat in the preferred course. If the preferred course is full, the student receives an e-mail stating the cancellation of the Learning Agreement, therefore student has to choose different courses and upload updated Learning Agreement to online application system.

After the timetable is sent to you, you shall be able to see whether the courses you have chosen overlap with one another, or not. In case it does, you may need to change some of your courses.

Students with disabilities are advised to contact their coordinator at International Office of ISM to discuss their need for support as soon as possible. If you are coming under the Erasmus exchange programme you are encouraged to seek extra scholarships at your home university to cover any costs related to your special needs.

Living in Lithuania

Introduction

Climate

Useful resources

Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania and the geographic center of Europe. It is modern European capital with its own distinctive ambiance, a unique blend old and new, traditional and cutting edge. With the population of just over half a million it makes it easy to have a comfortable and sustainable living in Vilnius. ISM University of Management and Economics, located right in the heart of the city offers students the comfort of reaching the main sights and places within the walking distance and gives students an opportunity to enjoy the best of Lithuanian capital without having to commute long distances.

Lithuania has a mix of maritime and continental climate, meaning winters are quite cold and summers are warm. It can get as low as -25 degrees in winter time, therefore do not forget to pack warm clothing! Raincoats and umbrellas are always a good idea in Lithuania, no matter the season.

Lithuanian cuisine features the products suited to its cool and moist northern climate: barley, potatoes, rye, beets, greens, and mushrooms are locally grown, and dairy products are one of its specialties. Since it shares its climate and agricultural practices with Eastern Europe, Lithuanian cuisine has much in common with other Eastern European and Jewish cuisines. Nevertheless, it has its own distinguishing features, which were formed by a variety of influences during the country’s long and difficult history. Most popular of all in Lithuania is pork and potatoes. Lithuanians just love bacon!
