Welcome word – Tony Poulter
Welcome to the GlobalConsulting Curriculum.
The Global Consulting Curriculum
PwC 2
Why do we need a commonglobal curriculum forConsulting? To operate more efficiently globally and provide ourclients with a consistently outstanding service, weneed to develop a common language, approach andset of skills.
We recognise from the Global People Survey, that weneed to continue to invest in your learning. TheGlobal Consulting Curriculum reflects our ambition todo this. In addition to supporting you individually, itwill accelerate team development, enabling us to stayahead of the competition.
By building and implementing a common globalcurriculum, we want to achieve:
A common set of consulting skills across thenetwork that differentiates us from thecompetition
An identifiable and recognisable experience forour clients when working with our consultants
An ability to train new hires in a common PwCapproach to consulting, with a consistentlanguage and taxonomy used by all of ourconsultants, supporting the deployment of cross-border teams with a readily understandable levelof capability
A competitive edge with our people
A flexible deployment approach.
FlexibilityThe Global Consulting Curriculum is designed to beflexible. So while the learning content and learningoutcomes are the same, the way it is delivered couldvary considerably from territory to territory, depending on the needs of its business and learners. The approach is designed to enable as much learningas possible to take place around client engagements.
The approach: blended learningResearch suggests that the best approach to learningis to blend work-based challenges and coachingsupport from colleagues with formal learning.
Blended learning at PwC is also about looking at theentire process of how our people learn to do their jobsbetter – from formal learning events to enablingbetter transfer of learning through coaching andpractical work experience; it’s a change from just-in-case learning to just-in-time learning; and it’s aboutlooking at how technology can enhance that processthrough e-learning, virtual classrooms, on-linediscussions and mobile learning. In this way, it’smuch easier for geographically-diverse groups tolearn together.
Gaining perspective – The bigpicture
The Global Consulting Curriculum
The Global Consulting Curriculum supports 70:20:10 learning
The firm’s way of developing our people is through a combination of learning by doing, learning from othersand formal learning. This is referred to as the 70:20:10 learning concept (*), which reflects the proportion ofeach type that tends to make up our overall learning in practice. See more details in the diagram below. TheGlobal Consulting Curriculum embraces this concept, particularly through the Core Consulting Skills Level 2courses.
Learningfrom doing
70%
Learningfrom others
20%
Formallearning
10%
10% comes f rom going to or teaching ontraining programmes, workshops, conferencesand seminars. And it comes from things youlearn from research, reading and e-Learning.
70% of learning and development takes placethrough on the job experiences, tasks andproblem solving. Given that the majority of ourprofessional time will be spent working onclient engagements, it is a valuable opportunityto learn from this experience
20% comes f rom getting and discussingfeedback, f rom observing and working withothers, role models, coaches and mentors. Weall benef it f rom working in teams alongsidemany highly skilled and experiencedpractitioners. This can be a valuable resourceto help reinforce our learning.

Transform is the global methodology used by PwC to successfully lead organisations through large and complextransformations. Transform is also a framework for delivering all aspects of a change initiative (be theytransformational or smaller in scale), from Strategy and Assess work through to Implement and Operate andReview. Four things make it different: First, Transform looks at the whole picture: We start by considering theclient organisation and business priority. Second, Transform is collaborative: The approach is intended to beapplied with our client as part of the team. Third, Transform is built around business case clarity to bring lastingbenefits. Fourth, it is designed to “make change stick” laying the groundwork to make the change part of day-to-day work place culture.
You should receive Transform training during your induction training when you join the firm. It is then expectedthat you will use Transform with your clients to support your work. All the Global Consulting Curriculummaterials link to Transform, where applicable.

Please note thatthis guide includes a snapshot of the Competency curricula as of 31 December 2013. Updates to the curricula will be published periodically.
The Global Operations curriculum is aligned to the Global Operations Framework that was developed in FY14 and is illustrated below. The Framework defines six sub-competencies and four x-Competency methodologies. Procurement & Sourcing, Production & Supply Chain, and Performance Improvement & Benchmarking are thetop 3 global priority areas for course development in FY14 and FY15 and are highlighted below.
The following pages contain the Operations Global Graduated Curriculum as of 31 December 2013. Courses in italics are proposed course topics and are prioritized in
the Operations Acquisition and Development Plan. Learning solutions followed by (UK) or (US) indicates that a fully globalised version of the course has not been
issued yet, but the learning solution which currently exists is assumed to be globally acceptable as per October 2013 meeting of the Global Operations Steering Team.
These respective learning solutions are to be reviewed on an ‘as needed’ basis.

What is it?The Competency curriculum is a summary of the formal learning resources and solutions that are available to support your professional development. Please note thatthis guide includes a snapshot of the Competency curricula as of 31 December 2013. Updates to the curricula will be published periodically.
How the curriculum was developedThe People and Change Global Curriculum is the list of formal P&C learning resources and solutions available, which make up the ‘10’ in our ‘70:20:10’ approach to
development. It is based on the People and Change Syllabus, and is organised around 16 Syllabus topics and the three proficiency levels: Fundamentals, Intermediate,
and Advanced.
Our Syllabus and Curriculum were agreed by our global P&C community in early 2012. They are not static and will change over time as the needs of P&C people change.
If you have any suggestions for new topics, please contact John McCormick in global L&D.
The Curriculum will be updated regularly and posted to the Global People and Change Learning and Development page.
