DOST-PCAARRD

PCAARRD is one of the sectoralcouncils of the DOST mandated to formulate policies, plans, and

programs for science and technology-based R&D in the

agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources (AANR) sector.

It coordinates, evaluates, and monitors the national R&D

efforts in AANR. It also allocates government and external funds

for R&D and generates resources to support its

program.

Assistance for

Agribusinesses

37 ISPs

It aims to effectively support the use and commercialization of mature technologies in the AANR sector by establishing and developing viable agribusinesses through technology incubation.

It directly supports the implementation of the following policies:● DOST Technology Transfer Protocol;● Technology Transfer Act (Republic Act No. 10055);● Philippine Innovation Act (Republic Act No. 11293);● Innovative Startup Act (Republic Act No. 11337); and● Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022.

DOST-PCAARRD National ATBI Program

To any one who’s interested in the ATBI program, you may visit the ATBI Facebook page to get an assistance directly from DOST-PCAARRD.

https://sarai.ph/

Project SARAI aims to craft crop advisories which are targeted for rice, corn, banana, coconut, coffee, cacao, sugarcane, soybean, and tomato. The crop advisories focus on integrating local weather data and drought forecast with farm management activities, specifically nutrient and water management, and proactive pest and disease monitoring.

https://sarai.ph/

Project SARAI implements a near real-time monitoring of production areas using remotely-sensed images. It is implemented by the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), together with 11 State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and six National Government Agencies.

Itik PinasItik Pinas is a genetically superior breeder duck which has a

higher average productive period of 70% in a year, compared

with 55% for the old breed. The strains of Itik Pinas are

products of organized breeding and selection that focus on the

uniformity of physical characteristics, higher and predictable

egg production performance, and consistent egg quality.

Target Market: Duck breeders and raisers, private

individuals/firms

Portable Mango Sprayer

The longest reach of the Portable

Mango Sprayer varies from 3.68 to

5.62 meters away from the two

nozzles. Using the prototype, the

amount of chemical (solution) savings

was around 398 li/ha (100 trees). It has

a more uniform spray deposition.

It is also more effective in controlling

thrips by as much as 18.23% mortality

rate than using the conventional of

only around 64.15%.

Mechanical Fruit Picker

The prototype has two types of mango picker: the pull type and trigger type

picker which are both attached to bamboo poles. The trigger type was made

up of a cutting device controlled by a trigger while the pull type picker was

fabricated with double blades.

The use of both pickers helps reduce number of fallen and mechanically

damaged fruits.

Carrageenan Plant Growth PromoterCarrageenan is an indigestible polysaccharide

(carbohydrates) extracted from edible seaweeds.

Polysaccharide, when subjected to modified irradiation

technology, can be an effective plant growth supplement.

At a very small dose, this supplement makes an effective

organic fertilizer.

It has been found to increase rice yield by 15%-30%.

Stabilized Brown Rice (SBR)

SBR/unpolished rice is a freshly milled

paddy/rough rice with improved shelf-

life from one to four months to four to

nine months. The rice is subjected to

optimum combination of saturated

steaming and oven drying for a certain

period of time and temperature which

deactivates the inherent enzymes

present in the bran layer of brown

rice/unpolished rice to improve shelf-

life.
