Cumulative Update Release Notes 1

Overview

This MPM 3.5 Data Warehouse CU release includes all the software issues resolved and enhancements that were made in previous MPM 3.5 Data Warehouse Cumulative Updates. These CU software changes are listed in separate sections in these release notes.

Custom Programs Affected:

Sometimes a Cumulative Update can cause custom programs and reports to stop working as expected. Before applying this Cumulative Update, consider whether you have any custom programs or reports in the application area affected by the Cumulative Update. If so, contact Deltek support at http://support.deltek.com before you install the Cumulative Update.

To Download the Cumulative Update:

1. From Internet Explorer, go to https://dsm.deltek.com.

2. Click Run Deltek Software Manager.

3. Log in using your Deltek Customer Care Connect credentials.

4. In the left pane of the Deltek Software Manager, expand your Deltek product.

5. Expand the Cumulative Updates folder for your product, and select the Cumulative Update to download.

6. Click Download at the bottom of the screen.

To Install the Cumulative Update:

The installation instructions are different for MPM and MPM Data Warehouse. Follow the instructions below for the product that you are updating.

All MPM and MPM Data Warehouse Cumulative Updates are cumulative (the latest Cumulative Update includes all of the changes in the previous Cumulative Updates). All Cumulative Updates for a specific version of MPM are stored in an .EXE file (i.e. DeltekMPM35CumulativeUpdate##.exe). All Cumulative Updates for a specific version of MPM Data Warehouse are stored in or a single zip file (i.e. DWCU35.ZIP).

Applying MPM Cumulative Updates:

1. Download the DeltekMPM35CumulativeUpdate##.exe file to a local workstation or a centralized server location.

2. Have all users close MPM.

3. If MPM 3.5 is already installed then proceed with the following steps based on the installation type. Otherwise follow the MPM 3.5 Installation Guide for installation

instructions.

The DeltekMPM35CumulativeUpdate##.exe file behaves differently depending on

what type of install exists on the machine.

Overview

Cumulative Update Release Notes 2

Standalone Installation

1. Launch the DeltekMPM35CumulativeUpdate##.exe file to extract the installation files

and begin the installation.

2. Answer Yes to the message prompt about performing an upgrade.

3. Click Finish.

Administrator Installation

Below are notes to keep in mind prior to installing the update:

If possible, perform the Administrator Installation from a system that already has the Workstation install. This will allow the installation program to populate the MPM System Folder and MPM Executable Folder from the registry, simplifying the installation.

Do not install the Administrator installation from the server console pointing to a local server drive. Instead, install the Administrator installation from a workstation to a mapped network drive or UNC. This is important because the Workstation installation automatically uses the same MPM System Folder and Executable Folder location specified during the Administrator Installation.

If using a mapped network drive, be sure the mapped drive is the same for all users.

Steps:

1. Launch the DeltekMPM35CumulativeUpdate##.exe file to extract the installation files

and begin the installation.

2. Select the Administrator option on the Select Setup Type screen.

3. Ensure the Executable and System folders specified point to the correct location for these files. If you are unsure of the correct location for these folders, please reference Deltek’s Knowledge Base Article # 45619 titled “Where is the MPM System Folder (aka Data Directory), Executable Directory, and Working Directory?” from Deltek’s Customer Care Connect website at http://support.deltek.com.

4. Click Finish.

Workstation Installation

No updates are necessary at this time.

Database Engine Installation

No updates are necessary at this time.

Applying MPM Data Warehouse Cumulative Updates:

When completing the following steps, answer Yes, or Yes to All, if prompted to replace or

overwrite files.

1. Download the ZIP file to a local workstation or a centralized server location.

Overview

Cumulative Update Release Notes 3

For MPM 3.5 Data Warehouse, the zip file contains two folders:

If you are using SQL Server 2008, extract the files from the SQL 2008 folder.

If you are using SQL Server 2012, extract the files from the SQL 2012 folder.

2. Stop the MPM Data Warehouse Controller service.

3. Extract the SSIS package files (.DTSX) into the Integrated Service (SSIS) folder.

4. Extract the application files (.EXE and .DLL) into the Data Warehouse Controller folder.

The default location is C:\DWC.

5. Extract the script files (.SQL) to any location accessible by the SQL server hosting the

MPM Data Warehouse database.

6. Open SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), select the Database Engine server type, and run the appropriate scripts as indicated below.

Deltek recommends backing up the MPM Data Warehouse database prior to running any scripts. Please contact your Database Administrator or refer to Microsoft SQL documentation or help if you are unfamiliar with running a script, backing up, or deleting a SQL database.

Run the scripts against the MPM Data Warehouse database in any order.

7. To apply the OLAP updates for MPM Data Warehouse do the following:

a. On the Analysis Services machine, Open SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and select the Analysis Services server type.

b. Delete the MPMOLAP database in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) by right clicking on MPMOLAP and select delete.

c. Run the MPMDWOLAP.xmla script included with the Cumulative Update to recreate

the OLAP database and then configure the Connection String for the MPMOLAP database. Complete directions can be found in Appendix D of the MPM 3.5

Installation Guide.

d. Create any necessary roles for your domain users by following the directions under OLAP: Creating Analysis Services Roles for Your Domain Users in the MPM 3.5

Installation guide.

8. Start the MPM Data Warehouse Controller service.

To Check to See if the Cumulative Update is Installed:

MPM

1. Use Windows Explorer to find the new file in the appropriate MPM related folder.

2. Compare the date and/or version number of the file with the date and/or version number of the Cumulative Update file that you downloaded.

MPM Data Warehouse

For SSIS packages (.DTSX) files, navigate to the SSIS folder and compare file dates.

For script (.SQL) files:

Overview

Cumulative Update Release Notes 4

There is no easy way to check and see if scripts have already been run, however, scripts may be re-run in any order.

For application (.EXE and .DLL) files:

Use Windows Explorer to find the new file in the MPM Data Warehouse Controller

folder. The default location is C:\DWC.

Compare the date and/or version number of the file with the date and/or version number of the Cumulative Update file that you downloaded.

For OLAP, check the description field:

Right-click the OLAP database named MPMOLAP, select Properties, and confirm

the description says: “Updated Schema on 07Jan2015”

Software Enhancement (1)

Windows 10

Deltek has tested MPM 3.5 using Pervasive SQL v11 on Windows 10 without encountering any issues and now considers MPM 3.5 compatible with Windows 10. However, it is important to note that Actian, the supplier of Pervasive SQL v11, does not support Pervasive SQL v11 on Windows 10. If you encounter any issues caused by incompatibility between Pervasive SQL v11 and Windows 10, Actian will be unable to provide technical support or a resolution and your use of MPM 3.5 may be affected. Deltek will only be able to provide support and resolutions that relate directly to the MPM 3.5 software.

Software Issues Resolved (3)

MPM

File Conversion

Defect 495652: Some users were unable to log into MPM. They received the message "System

files must be converted" followed by the message "The following system files cannot be converted because there are users currently accessing them: xxx\Scheduler\." This occurred because the LOC file in the Scheduler folder pointed to the Data Warehouse server.

Customers Impacted: This defect applies to all MPM 3.5 users.

Workaround Before Fix: Copy the ~PVSW~.LOC file from the system folder to the Scheduler

folder so that the LOC file points to the MPM database server instead of the Data Warehouse server.

Additional Notes: The use of a gateway for a specific site can be set in the configuration file

Controller.exe.Config, by appending "|<gateway>" to the data folder site definition, where <gateway> is the name of the server acting as the Pervasive SQL gateway.
