Every customer is different. You’re different from the next customer. There is no formula, no equation that will work with all of you. It takes a different approach to everyone to determine how best to serve anyone. Some people need videos, some people need descriptions. Some people need us to weld it together. Our approach has been, and will always be, to serve each of you where you are and to treat you the same way we would like to be treated. It’s been just over 11 years since we officially opened the doors to Welder Series. I say 11 years, but the product line has been percolating for over 30. Paul Horton began developing and building many of the parts we still manufacture when I wasn’t yet a twinkle in Paul’s wife’s eye. Thanks very much for your business and support over the years. The future looks great, but there are some things that we won’t be changing. When you buy parts from Welder Series, that’s what you get. Parts. We don’t use fancy boxes, custom printed packing tape, or glossy catalogs. Our reported damaged box claims are quite less than half a percent of parcels shipped. This catalog will continue to be printed in-house so you get an up-to-date copy. Actually, I should have said copies… we send three catalogs with every order (most people request more than one when they order, so they can give one or two to friends). Here’s a true story: a customer of ours is a police officer, and had his daily driver broken into. The thief stole the standard items – cash, camera, wallet, Welder Se- ries catalog. Welder Series is a three person family business focused on serving our customers with consistently high quality parts, exceptional service and support, and reasonable prices.

MUSTANG II COIL SPRING CROSSMEMBER KITOur READY-TO-WELD kits fit and put your ride height where you want it! Detailed instructions show you how to notch the crossmember and upper mounts to your frame dimensions. It’s easy! OR you can purchase it welded. You just have to notch to fit your frame.

High quality and low cost is achieved by using this Mustang II crossmember and upper tower kit. Set up the front end at the ride height you want! Detailed installation instructions are included in the kit and available online. Either manual or power steering can be used- the passenger side mount has a slot to take the later model powerrack. As with al l Mustang I I aftermarket crossmembers, spacers must be used with the later (Fox-body) power rack. This spacer kit is available from Welder Series as #24410. Use stock control arms or aftermarket upper and lowers with this kit.

Most vehicles will use the stock Mustang II 56-1/2“ track width. Ford F1 pickups should use the 58-1/2“ kit. Ford F100 (’53-’56) and 2nd series ’54-’59 Chev pickups should use the 60-1/2“ kit. If you specify a welded kit, the corner-to-corner welds are neat but not ground. The stamped shock mount is TIG welded in place.

What appears as lines in the pictures are actually laser-cut slits in the plate. These slits make it easy to form the piece by hand, or, in some cases, by using an adjustable wrench to get a better grip on a small tab. Rack mounts are incorporated into the crossmember design and rotate the rack back 20° to get the input shaft lower. Stock, manual or power racks or later model Mustang II or T-Bird power racks can be used. The later power rack will require the Power Rack Spacer kit #24410, as described on the next page. The rack is positioned so the bellows will clear most aftermarket full A-Arms (such as Heidt’s, Total Cost Involved, Fatman, etc).

Stylish, cone-shaped stamped upper shock mounts also function as the coil spring locator. The upper towers have anti-dive built in. The holes for the lower control arms are 1/2” (stock). If you will use lower ‘A’-arms instead of the stock lower arms, the lower pivot holes will have to be drilled out. Installation instructions show how to set up the front end at the ride height you want. Rack extenders or Fairmont tie rod ends must be used on 58-1/2“ and 60-1/2“ kits. Crossmember & upper towers are made from 3/16” mild steel. The track width is measured at the rotor wheel mounting surface. The width will vary, depending on the brake kit used. Please note: lower control arm pivot tubes and gussets are not included.

Track width is the rotor wheel mounting surface to surface dimension. Welder Series makes 3 widths: stock (56-1/2“), and 2” and 4” wider (58-1/2“ & 60-1/2”). These are nominal dimensions. With stock, 4-bolt Mustang II rotors the actual track width would be our listed spec, but the final track width is dependent on the control arms, wheels, and brake system used. An easy way to estimate the stock track width is to measure tire tread center to center.

The outside frame width is less critical than track width, but is a consideration. Our 56-1/2” kit likes a frame o.d. of 26” – 30”. The 58-1/2” kit likes 28 – 32” and the 60-1/2” kit likes 30 – 34”. If the frame doesn’t correspond to these dimensions, there are work-arounds that we can suggest. Please see our website for a more thorough application chart.

NEW: Please see welderseries.com/blog/mustang-ii-cut-diagrams for a growing list of diagrams which will help you lay out the cut lines on specific applications.

MUSTANG II COIL-OVER CROSSMEMBER KITOur READY-TO-WELD kits fit and put your ride height where you want it! Detailed instructionsshow you how to notch the crossmember and upper mounts to your frame dimensions. It’s easy! OR you can purchase it welded. You just have to notch to fit your frame.

This is a Mustang II kit for conventional coil-oversinstead of stock-type springs and shocks. This lets you use different spring rates and maintain the same ride height by adjusting the lower spring collar on the coil-over. Often the coil-over shock has an adjustable rebound rate, too. Use coil-overs that have a ride height of 11-1/2 – 12-1/2”. Use Mustang II tubular upper arms and Mustang II tubular lower A-arms designed for coil-overs and no strut rod. This kit uses the stock Mustang II geometry and track width. Anti-dive is built into the upper bracket. These kits are designed to lower a frame. Additional work might be required to keep a frame at the stock ride height.

This unique kit has laser -cut slits that let you fold the crossmember pieces by hand. The rack mounts are part of the crossmember plate and can be folded using an adjustable wrench for extra leverage.

WELDED KIT: The main crossmember is welded. The upper bracket is not welded because it is easier to notch while still flat. After notching, it must be folded, by hand, along laser cut slits and welded. Notch the crossmember and towers, following our easy instructions, to give you the ride height that you want.

Some applications: 56-1/2” Track Width: 1933-48 Ford Cars 1935-41 Ford Pickups 1935-54 Chev Cars 1954-62 Corvette 1937-55 Chev Pickups (early series) 1933-38 Dodge Cars 1933-38 Plymouth 1934-47 Studebaker56-1/2” Ready-to-weld, #WS21906, $210.00/ea56-1/2” Welded Kit, #21906, $240.00/ea

ASSEMBLY TIPS FOR READY-TO-WELD #WS2125 AND #WS2136Use a pair of 1974-78 Mustang II spindles as a fixture. This way theparts will be held in exactly the right place for tack welding. The end

of the threaded spacer (for the 1/2-20 bolt) should bottom against theslot in the plate. Take the tacked assembly off of the spindles to finish

welding. Avoid getting weld inside the threaded spacer. Be sure toread the installation tip sheets shipped with each kit.

FLAT FRONT CROSSMEMBERFor early Ford transverse leaf springs. This crossmember helps get the frame lower by about 1-1/2 - 2” compared to a stock Model ‘A’ crossmember. The front face of the crossmember is already formed. Simply fold, by hand, the rear faces along the laser-cut slits and tack in the center plate. Then weld all the edges. This crossmember can be trimmed to fit your frame. A hole for the spring center bolt is centered in the crossmember. Use a 1-3/4” wide spring. Available in 24” & 28” wide. The 28” wide crossmember can serve double duty as the front c notches, too.

28” Ready-to-weld, #WS21866, $76.00/ea28” Welded kit, #21866, $86.00/ea Check out our rad mounts on page 33.

SUICIDE SPRING PERCH KITThis unwelded suicide spring perch kit is to mount a 1-3/4” spring in front of a 2” round tube crossmember. The main plate centers on the tube. The spring can be mounted under or on top of the perch plate. The 2 clamp bars have holes for 3/8” bolts and eliminate the u-bolts. The clamp bars can be countersunk for flat head Allen bolts. (There is enough meat around the hole.) The bolts in the kit are good for a spring with 5 leaves. If you plan to use special bolts, just order the parts required. Kit includes the 3/8” thick main perch plate, 2 gussets, 2 clamp bars and hardware. If you have a square front crossmember tube, we can substitute #10102 90 degree gussets for an even lower price.

CLAMP PLATE & U-BOLT ELIMINATOR KITClamp plate & u-bolt eliminator kit, for 1928-34 Ford repro front crossmembers, or our flat front crossmember, with a transverse spring. Eliminating the u-bolts reduces the chance of chipping the paint when installing the u-bolts. Tabs get welded to the front crossmember. These tabs can be left flat or they can be made stronger by bending the ends. Simply put the tab in a vise and use an adjustable wrench to make the bend. Repro front springs usually have fewer leaves than the original, making them thinner. The 1/4” clamp plate spacer gets welded to the 3/8” base plate to make up the extra thickness so the clamping action is on the spring leaf, not on the crossmember.

Buy the complete kit or any individual parts you need.

CLAMP PLATE & U-BOLT KITClamp Plate and U-Bolts. For 1928-34 Ford stock or reproduction frontcrossmember with a transverse spring. Reproduction front springs usually have fewer leaves than the original, making them thinner. The 1/4” clamp plate spacer gets welded to the 3/8” base plate to make up the extra thickness so the clamping action is on the spring leaf, not on the crossmember.

Assembly tip: The spacer plate only needs to be welded to the clamp plate at each end. It is only a spacer and does not have a strength requirement.

CAN I RELOCATE MY SMALL BLOCK CHEV WITHOUT MOVING THE FRAME MOUNTS?We received an email from a fella who asked if he could keep his frame mounts in place, and move his small block Chevy back 1″. Since he’s using rubber insulators, we made up these 3/8″ adapter plates. Three holes are tapped 3/8-16, and two are countersunk for flathead allen bolts.

CHEVY MOTOR MOUNTS - FOR STOCK INSULATORSSmall/ big block Chevy motor mounts to use stock-type GM rubber insulators for less vibration. Insulator rests on frame bracket, not on the bolt, the way GM designed it. Stock small block Chev non-interlocking insulators (side mounts) are used with this kit to absorb motor vibrations. The C005 motor mount is designed to use “short & wide type” GM insulators. These insulators have an inside width, between the ears, of 2-5/8”. The 2-3/8” “tall & narrow” type insulator will not fit the C005 mount. (Insulators not included in this kit.)

MOTOR MOUNT INSTALL TIPS-Many factors affect the location of the motor in a street rod chassis. Plan ahead.-The frame should be at ride height and rake when mounting the motor/trans.-On MII suspended chassis, have the rack mounted. It is usually higher than the crossmember and can interfere with the oil pan.-Carb does not have to be level, but try to be close.-Pinion angle (up at the front) should be the same as the crank/trans angle (down at the rear) and the u-joint angle should be 3 degrees or less.-Crank c/l does not have to be in line with the pinion when viewed from above.-Have motor/trans to know the clearances required.

MASTER CYLINDER MOUNT/PEDAL ARM KITThe master cylinder mount is laser cut and formed with holes to mount either Ford or GM master cylinders. The pedal mounts in double shear for strength and to make pedal removal easier - the pedal doesn’t have to slide off a pin. This, in turn, means a smaller hole in the floor. A stainless, adjustable pedal pad mount is included. The standard pedal is offset, but the straight pedal arm (#21890 in the Handy Parts section) can be substituted, there is a price reduction.

Designed for 1932 Fords, but can be, and has been used in many other frames. The centre of the master cylinder is 4-1/4” off the frame rail so a master cylinder with either LH or RH ports can be used. There is not room on this bracket to mount a clutch cylinder in addition to a brake master cylinder.

BRAKE PEDAL/ MASTER CYLINDER BRACKET, MODEL AThis under the floor, compact master cylinder mount is laser cut and formed with holes to mount either Ford or GM master cylinders. The pedal mounts in double shear for strength and to make pedal removal easier – the pedal doesn’t have to slide off a pin. This, in turn, means a smaller hole in the floor. The standard pedal is offset, but boomerang-shaped arms with no offset and straight pedal arms can be substituted. The adjustable pedal mount parts are included.

This kit was designed for Model ‘A’ Fords, but can be used in T-buckets and many other frames. The center of the master cylinder is 2-1/2” off of the frame rail so a master cylinder with left hand ports should be used.

BRAKE PEDAL ARM, STRAIGHTStraight pedal, no offset, 5.75:1 ratio, 3/8” thick. Can be bent to clear the steering column and used as either a brake or clutch pedal. Often used in T Buckets, Model A Fords, and Pro/Street cars.

This brake pedal arm can be used as a substitute for the larger pedal arms in the previous three kits. Price reductions for those kits would apply.

Pedal only, #21890, $21.00Welded with tube, #21891, $33.00Welded with tube & bushings, #218920, $43.00

Note: We refer to the 21890 pedal as a “straight” pedal, meaning it comes “straight” up through the floor. Standard “boomerang” shaped pedals are referred to as either “offset” or “no offset”. The offset is always towards the passenger side (the driver’s right). Pedals with no offset can be substituted for offset pedals when the order is placed. Specific pedal arms can be found in the Handy Parts section. The price difference will be as shown in that section.

BRAKE PEDAL PAD MOUNT KIT - STAINLESSPedal Mount with stainless brackets and hardware for great looks. This mount makes it easy to install pedal pads on brake and clutch arms – simply drill two holes in the pedal arm. Mounts on under-floor pedals or swing pedals. Positive lock allows the foot angle to be adjusted. Slotted pedal mount hole provides adjustable leverage. The floor slot can be smaller because the mount is easy to remove from the pedal arm. For under floor brake pedal or hanging clutch pedal.

BOOSTER BRACKET & PEDAL KITBooster Bracket & Pedal Kit to mount under the floor. This universal kit is simple to trim to fit many under floor applications. As supplied, the center of the booster will be 4-1/4” off of the boxing plate. The bracket also has holes for a GM or Ford manual master cylinder if the booster is not being used. (In this case one of the 5.75:1 pedals should be used.) The pedal is offset for right foot braking and a stainless, adjustable pedal pad mount is included. The brake pedal mounts to the bracket in double shear for extra strength. This type of pedal mount lets you drop the pedal down instead of sliding it off of a pin so the hole in the floor can be smaller. A 3/8” female rod end is included. The bracket will mount Ford or GM manual master cylinders and either 7” (single or dual) or 8” dual boosters. Booster mounting holes are 3-3/8” x 3-3/8”. This will fit the common street rod power boosters.

Clutch Pedal Add-On: A second gusset is added to support the clutch pedal in double shear. The pedals are supplied with no offset so they can be bent to clear

the steering column. Pedal pad mounts are included. Clutch linkage must be fabricated. Video available online.

BOOSTER BRACKET & PEDAL KIT, UNDER SEAT MOUNTThis universal bracket mounts under the floor with the booster located further back on the frame rail. A 5/8” diameter tube connects the pedal to the booster. (This tube might need to be cut to length and threaded 3/8-24 to suit your application.) This set-up gives added clearance beside the transmission so the exhaust can be routed higher. The offset brake pedal arm mounts in double shear for extra strength. This also makes it easy to remove the pedal because it drops down from the bracket rather than having to slide it off of a pin. The pedal arm bracket bolts to 2 tabs welded to the frame rail boxing plate. This makes it easy to paint the bracket and frame rail. The booster bracket is also set up for either a Ford or a GM manual master cylinder, if preferred. (If a manual master is used, order a 5.75:1 pedal arm and a male rod end and plunger.) The bracket will mount either 7” (single or dual) or 8” dual boosters. Booster mounting holes are 3-3/8” x 3-3/8”. Clutch pedal kit includes two pedal arms with no offsets.

REAR FOUR LINK KIT - TRIANGULATEDGM has used a triangulated rear four link in many of their cars for decades. The design eliminates the Panhard bar. To accommodate many frame widths, the formed upper frame brackets may need to be trimmed. Bars are 1” heavy-wall seamless tubing, tapped one end 3/4-16 (or 5/8-18 for the standard bushing kit) and notched for the urethane bushing tube on the other end. Upper bars are about 18” center to center and lower bars are about 25” center to center. Coil-overs can be mounted in one of three holes on the axle brackets. Brackets for the urethane bushings are 10 ga. mild steel and formed for extra strength. Frame brackets are 3/16” Brackets for both sides are included in this kit. Assembly and installation tips are provided.

FOUR LINK KIT, REAR - 8.8 FORD OR GMGM has used a triangulated rear four link in many of their cars for decades. The design eliminates the Panhard bar. To accommodate many frame widths, the formed upper frame brackets may need to be trimmed. Bars are 1” heavy-wall seamless tubing, tapped one end 3/4-16 and notched for the urethane bushing tube on the other end. Coil-overs can be mounted in one of three holes.

If you plan to use a Ford 8.8 rear end or a GM rear end with the upper bar ears on the center section, we have a kit with brackets to fit on the upper axle bushings. These brackets must be welded to the upper bars after the bars have been cut to length. The upper bars in the kit are longer so the kit will work in frames of different widths. In both the welded and ready to weld kits, these upper rear end mounts are not welded to

the bars. Because this bracket has many applications, the 7/16” diameter bolt hole must be drilled to your bolt size. Comes with 1-3/4” wide urethane bushings, 3/4-16 threaded adjusters and brackets and hardware.

BUILDER’S TIP ON MOUNTING COILOVERSCoil-overs should be mounted so that they are compressed 1/3 of their stroke at ride height. For example, if the shock eyes are 10″ compressed and 13″ fully extended, the stroke would be 3″. The designed ride height of this shock (coil-over) would be 12″.

Street rods with solid rear ends (8″ & 9″ Ford for example) normally mount the coil-overs so they are vertical when viewed from the side of the car, and at an angle (closer together at the top) when viewed from the rear. Normally the shock angle will be between 20 & 30 degrees. Suppose the coil-over ride height is 13″ center-to-center. With each upper mount 4-1/2″ inboard from the lower mount, the shock will be at a 20 degree angle. This gives a firmer ride. With the upper mounts in 6-1/2″, the shock will be on a 30 degree angle. This will give a softer ride and slightly more vertical suspension travel.

Suppose the coil-over ride height is 12″. The offset should be 4-1/8″ for 20 degrees and 6″ for 30 degrees.

<- FRONT REAR ->

WHAT IF MY FRAME IS TOO HIGH FOR THE REAR FOUR LINKFRAME BRACKET?Occasionally, we’ll be asked about a four link installation on a closer-to-stock-ride-height stance. We suggest adding a length of 2″ x 4″ tubing to the bottom of the frame rails where the four link frame bracket will mount, which will usually be enough to level the lower bar and make a happy four link. If you angle cut the ends and box them in, it will blend in nicely. I sketched the suggestion on our handy sketchboard.

This also works well on frames which don’t have as much of a sweeping kick up. Some pickup frames are pretty much straight back from the cab to the rear bumper.

REAR FOUR LINK KIT – PARALLEL, MODEL AWelder Series carries two varieties of Model A rear four bar kits. The only difference in the two kits is the frame brackets; the kit for stock-style frames incorporates the tapered rear frame rail, while keeping the bar mounting holes vertical. The frame bracket holes will be about 25-1/2” ahead of the rear axle centerline. This will clear TANKS saddle tanks. Rear axle brackets have 3 mounting holes for the coil-overs. Bars are 1” heavy-wall seamless mechanical tubing, tapped one end 5/8-18 RH and notched for the 10093 tube on the other end. (Bars are measured from tapped end to the center of the 10093 tube.) Note that with narrow frames, the upper bars can be mounted just inside the rails and angle forward towards the centre of the frame. Our upper “frame brackets” can be trimmed and mounted to a new crossmember.

This kit is designed for Model ‘A’ Fords with the frame rail tapered from a side view. Many repro frames also incorporate this taper (Total Cost Involved, Brookville, Pete & Jake’s, and others). The bars mount below and outside the frame rail.Welded, #18500, $410.00 This kit is designed for aftermarket frames using rectangular tubing rails without a taper. The bars mount below and outside the frame rail.Welded, #2119, $410.00

Grant Schwartz built a frame with an extreme kick-up to get the main rails very low. He used the 2119 kit with the bars mounted above the rails. Note also the support bar connecting the frame bracket to the kick-up section. A similar support bar could be used when the brackets are mounted conventionally, below the frame, to give the bracket more support.

FOUR LINK FRAME BRACKET KIT, MODEL A, REARAvailable for frames with a stock rear taper, or for frames which do not have a tapered rear section (when viewed from the side). The top hole is about 3/4” below the frame rail. Kit includes parts for 1 bracket.

PANHARD KIT – UNIVERSAL, REARThis kit can be used with most rear ends because it has a bracket that welds to the passenger side rear axle tube. The bracket sides can be easily folded along laser-cut slits. The urethane bushed, adjustable bar, attaches to the axle bracket and to supplied tabs that weld to the driver’s frame rail. The longer bar means less side-to-side movement under suspension travel. Bar length is 27-7/8”.

Ready-to-weld, #WS2184, $99.00Welded, #2184, $120.00 The flat plate (bracket) is availableseparately in the Handy Partssection. #21842.

PANHARD KIT, 8” OR 9” FORD REAR ENDThe panhard bar keeps the frame from moving sideways, giving much improved handling. The bar attaches to the driver’s side boxing plate and to the Ford differential. We supply 2 different frame tabs because often the frame rails are not parallel. The bar dimension is from the tapped end to the center of the urethane bushing tube. Add 1-5/8” to get the center-tocenter dimension including the adjuster. All applications shown are for centred pinions. For 8” READY-TO-WELD KIT centred housings, bars should be 1-1/2” longer.

REAR SPRING HANGER KITThis rear spring hanger kit is for transverse mounted (early Ford style) leaf springs. Made for 3” diameter housings and a 2-1/4” spring. Use 2-1/4” shackles with 3/4” diameter bushings. The center of the spring will be 6-1/8” behind the rear axle tube.Gussets are designed to mount the main plate at 90 degrees to the axle, NOT at an angle for stock 1932-34 Ford springs. Kit includes parts for both sides.

FRAME CURVES - WELDER SERIES ORIGINAL!A unique and inexpensive alternative to thin-wall mandrel bent frame sections. Designed for rear kickups, center sections, frames, etc… perfect for builders looking for a smooth bend that doesn’t require special machinery. They are shipped in four pieces as shown. Because they’re made from 3/16” steel, when you grind the weld it will match up with the corner radius on hollow structural tubing. There are no kinks or stretching normally associated with mandrel bent rectangular tubing, especially being bent the “hard way”. Alignment tabs let you clamp the pieces corner to corner while they’re welded. There are scribe lines on the top and bottom plates at 30°, 45°, and 60° so they’re easy to cut and replicate side to side. Each kit includes 4 pieces: top,

bottom, inside and outside. Parts can be purchased individually.

A “horizontal” (H) bend refers to one that is bent side-to-side, to go around the rear differential for example. A “vertical” (V) bend refers to one that is bent up or down, to kick the frame rails over the rear axle, for example.

STEP NOTCH KITTypically used in the mini truck market to drop the frame past the rear axle. Available in two widths: 2-5/8” and 3-3/8” wide outside. 6-1/2” from the top of the original frame to the top of the notch. Made from 3/16” mild steel. Sold in pairs. The notch depth will vary, depending on how tall the frame rails are, and what sweep the original frame rails have. The S10 we used for our installation article, for instance, has 4” of axle clearance with 18” wheels when the frame is laying on the ground. Priced per pair.

Available welded or ready-to-weld.Alignment tabs. No guesswork when it comes to squaring it up. Easy to clamp while you’re tacking it together.Weld it off the frame. The majority of the welding is done on your bench, where you can position the piece for the best weld. When you’re done welding the notch, just set it on the frame rail and weld it in place.Sits on outside top corner of frame rail. If you choose to grind the welds, you’ll have a smooth transition from the notch kit to your frame rails.Integral inner frame rail boxing plates. The inner plates weld to both the upper and lower flange of a C channel frame rail for strength.

SWAY BAR KITUniversal Sway Bar Kit (WS22700) aka anti-roll bar is 36” wide, but can be cut down (with a hack saw) to any length. The bar is ¾” diameter with one end splined ¾-36. The other end of the bar is smooth. This smooth end gets pinned and welded into a coupler which welds to one of the arms. The laser-cut, 3/8” thick arms are 8” center-to-center.

The rear sway bar kit (WS22740) is the same as the universal kit but with a 46” sway bar and outer tube to suit. All other components are the same. Cut to length, as with the 36” kit. Contact us if you need a longer sway bar!

Formed tabs weld to the outer tube and connect the bar to the rear crossmember using the coil-over bolts. Urethane bushings insulate road vibration. Rod ends connect the arms to the tabs that weld to the rear end. Overall length is ¾” longer than the bar length, since the 3/8” arms mount outside the ends of the bar. The arms can be bent to clear the coil-overs. To mount the sway bar to a crossmember tube without coilover bolts, please see the video “Sway Bar Options”. To order the kit like this, please add a comment in the order check-out. No extra charge.

NEW One more mounting option has been added: a bracket bolts to the lower coil over holes in the axle bracket and mounts the tube under the axle. Tabs weld to the bottom of your frame rail to mount the heim joints. Depending on your ride height, a male heim joint can be used on either end of a 3/8-24 threaded spacer tube. Please see additional pictures on our website.

WHAT KIND OF WELDER DO I NEED?Either stick, MIG or TIG can be used to assemble and install Welder Series parts. The machine has to have the capacity to weld the material thickness (most Welder Series brackets are 3/16” mild steel).

Stick welders don’t need a tank of shielding gas because the electrode is coated. This coating burns and keeps the air from the weld during the fusion process. Stick welders are more forgiving than TIG if the material being welded is dirty. A good weld made with a stick welder is… a good weld.

MIG welders are convenient because the wire feeds as long as the trigger is pulled (until the spool is emptied). It is easier to get the gun in position to weld because the arc will only be created when the trigger is pulled. MIG offers greater control than stick because the arc is closer to your hand, the arc is always the same distance from your hand (a new stick electrode starts out 12” to 14” long and burns down to the holder), and it’s easy to use two hands to steady the gun. MIG welders are more forgiving than TIG if the material being welded is dirty.

TIG welding gives the greatest power control of the three types being discussed. Often a foot pedal or thumb control is used to adjust the intensity of the arc while welding. TIG requires co-ordination between both hands and, with a foot control, one foot. TIG is not tolerant of dirty material. Rust or carbon scale will “jump” from the material to the tungsten electrode and change the arc pattern. Often it’s necessary to stop welding and replace or sharpen the tungsten when this happens. TIG does produce the dainty, “etched” pattern often seen in street rod and race car products. These are made by highly skilled welders.

MAKE YOUR OWN IFS BASED ON MUSTANG II GEOMETRYAlthough the Mustang II is not the best layout for competition, it is a tried and true geometry for thousands of street rods and hundreds of thousands of highway miles. Many manufacturers have all of the parts needed (spindles, brakes, springs, sway bars, etc.) Of course, we hope you will use some Welder Series parts in your design.

The upper arm pivot points are shown as 29-1/2” apart. The stock upper arms adjust in slots, so this dimension is not absolute. It is a starting point, and one that can be used when the upper arms will use threaded adjusters to dial in the alignment.

The side view shows the upper arm pivot center ine at the front, the center, and at the back. These imensions will give the stock Mustang II anti-dive angle of 4 degrees.

1974-78 Mustang II stock upper control arms measure 8” from the cross-shaft center-line to the center of the ball joint. Note that this is the center of the cross-shaft bolt hole, not the center of the dog-leg in the crossshaft. Stock lower arms measure 13-1/4” from the pivot bolt center-line to the center of the ball joint.

Several builders have made their own I.F.S. using Welder Series’ Mustang II crossmember parts (14373, 14375 & 14306) and 21902 or VersaTabs (20493) for their upper arm and coil-over mounts. Upper and lower arms can be made using 108211 ball joint housings and Welder Series urethane bushings and adjusters.

TECH SHARINGWelder Series’ parts are being used in lots of different ways. If you have digital pictures of how you used our parts, please email them to us. Please send pictures in .jpg format. Sending the picture gives us the right to use it.

In your cover email, tell us if we can use your name in the Tech Sharing text around your picture(s). We won’t give out your email address or any other personal info.

Tech Sharing is meant to inspire your imagination. Exact measurements will seldom be given because we build hot rods, not production line cars. Tech Sharing is not to be taken as an endorsement of the application. You should decide that for yourself.

We hope you enjoy seeing what others have done!

ABOUT WELDER SERIES - BY PAUL HORTONAn enjoyable part of my work at Horton Street Rod Products was helping builders solve “special” problems with parts that were readily available, often from kits that were in stock. In order to make those parts easier to identify, the name “Welder Series” was used – they are a “series” of parts cataloged primarily for “welders”.

Welder Series was originally going to be another product line sold through Horton’s, but that changed when Paul Barber came to me in early 2005 with an offer to buy the street rod products end of the company. He wanted to sell the Welder Series parts and Horton kits, but didn’t want to manufacture them. I had the drawings and enjoyed the design part of the business, so we split the company. (Paul Barber’s offer also let me keep my machinery and shop to do “R&D” work.)

Welder Series stayed in the same building that had housed Horton Street Rod Products since 1994 – in the same town that had been home to the company since 1978. Paul Barber’s new company is called Horton Hot Rod Parts to indicate the broader product range he would offer. It is now in Milton, Ontario, about 20 minutes west of Toronto.

The Welder Series product line has really been in development since 1960, when I started building street rods in my parents’ back yard. Many Welder Series’ parts and kits were being made and sold by Horton Street Rod Products since the beginning of the company in 1978. Welder Series just lets builders do their own welding.

There are lots of talented builders out there, both professional and hobbyists. Anyone who has built a hot rod knows it takes a lot of time to design and build clean looking, functional parts.

Welder Series supplies professional quality kits and parts, both welded and ready-to-weld, to save you time and money.

Two slogans have been part of Dorothy and Paul Horton’s business and personal lives, and will continue with Welder Series: “K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple and Safe)”, and “We want to help you enjoy building your project.”

VINTAGE AIR ROAD TOUR 2011In June 2011 we (Paul & Dorothy Horton) drove our ’32 hiboy to San Antonio TX (via Nashville & Memphis TN) to participate in the Vintage Air Road Tour to the LA Roadster Show in Pomona CA. Saw some wonderful sites, met great people, put some serious miles (6,318) and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Check out our website (home page > travelling) for a daily story in pictures & text.

We’ve put thousands of miles in various street rods (from our ’40 Ford 2-door, ’29 hiboy roadster and a ’23 track style T back in the ‘70s) but never this many miles in one trip. Hope we can do it again someday!

TESTIMONIALS“Welder Series’ components help me meet the needs of my customers, both pro and do-it-yourselfer. It’s a great alternative to assembled products for the customer who wants to fabricate his own part. Hands-on builders recognize the quality and value.” Paul Barber, owner of Horton Hot Rod Parts in Milton, ON, a major dealer in the huge metropolitan Toronto area.

“Lowdown uses Welder Series parts because we often have to custom fit kits to our chassis anyway. Their parts let us do the adjusting when it’s easier – before the kit is all welded. We also like being able to buy Welder Series time-saving brackets.”Tom Vandergeld, Lowdown Hot Rods, Cambridge, ON

“What an incredible website! Your selection of components provides solutions to so many needs. My only problem is the lack of a computer in the garage. The environment, mainly due to metal dust, does not permit access to a computer. Is there a printed version of the catalog available? It would be great to have on the work bench where we could all browse through it while working on our projects.”George, Surrey, BC

PRICINGPrices shown are in Canadian dollars. Credit card companies adjust payments to U.S. dollars on shipments to the U.S. This rate changes as the exchange rate fluctuates.

FREIGHT CHARGESEven though we’re in Canada, we ship to the US every day via UPS. It’s such a smooth process that you probably wouldn’t know your parts came from Canada unless you looked at the label! We have been sending parts south for over 10 years, and have sorted out the customs procedure so that it’s seamless and normalized. You will never pay UPS; they will only ask you for a signature.

Our shipping policy ensures that you know exactly how much your parts will cost, delivered to your door, before you order them. It’s pretty simple to calculate: 10% of the order value with a minimum charge of $15 and a maximum charge of $60. For example, a sway bar kit ($260) will ship anywhere in the lower 48 States for $26. If your order comes to $170, it will ship for $17. A $535 order ships for $53. An $840 order ships for $60. It doesn’t matter how many boxes or how much they weigh, you know the shipping charge. Again, this is all you’ll pay for shipping. You won’t be charged shipping on any back orders either, rare as they are. Orders for parts too large for UPS will be shipped freight collect. Some Canadian postal codes will incur an additional “extended area surcharge”. GUARANTEE AND LIABILITYMerchandise is guaranteed free from defects in material and workmanship. Products found to be defective will be repaired or replaced subject to our inspection and approval. Welder Series will not be liable for the use or misuse of any product we manufacture or sell. Our liability will end with the repair or replacement of the part if we find it to be defective.

HARDWAREUnless otherwise indicated, all hardware is zinc plated, bolts are grade 5.

MANUFACTURERS’ RIGHTSManufacturers reserve the right to make product changes at any time without obligation to change any parts previously manufactured.
