Many things have changed over the last three decades, but not the Locatel

Antonio Locatelli founded the company Locatelli S.p.A. in 1986 to produce

helmets for established brands of the sector.

1997 marked an important turning point for us, with the establishment of

the Airoh Helmet ® brand, which condensed 11 years of expertise and passion

for motorcycles into a modern and innovative brand for the most daring and

demanding riders. Firmly focused on the global market the Airoh Helmet ®

brand can be found in over 80 countries and is constantly expanding.

Ogni casco Airoh Helmet ® è il frutto degli sforzi combinanti di esperti in campi differenti: designer

industriali e ingegneri sono protagonisti nel concretizzare un’idea in un dispositivo di protezione di

alta qualità.

Si parte con l’ingegnerizzazione, realizzando un modello 3D del casco e delle sue parti, simulando

la capacità di assorbimento degli urti con tecnologia FEM valutando l’aerodinamicità, l’areazione

interna e l’ergonomia nella galleria del vento.

Successivamente si passa allo stampaggio delle parti, con processi differenti a seconda del materiale

utilizzato: la termoplastica con una sofisticata fusione che impiega speciali stampi ad iniezione; le

fibre composite con un metodo artigianale e meticoloso di stratificazione manuale; il polistirolo per

le calotte interne con lo stampaggio a vapore ad alte temperature.

In seguito, si procede alla verniciatura o all’applicazione di decals con trattamento filtro UV per

aumentare tenuta, resistenza e lucentezza, e all’inserimento degli interni, cuciti a mano per

valorizzare i materiali di ultima generazione e garantirne la migliore calzata. Lungo le linee di

montaggio vengono assemblati i vari componenti con un processo manuale svolto da personale

specializzato, che effettua anche il controllo qualità delle singole parti per scartare quelle con la

minima imperfezione. La fase finale e più importante è quella di test, per assicurare l’uniformità ai

parametri di sicurezza imposti dalle normative nazionali ed internazionali. Il casco viene segnato in

punti specifici, posizionato su una “falsa testa” e fatto cadere da un’altezza di 3 metri su un’incudine;

il macchinario che effettua questo processo comunica i dati ad un computer che li traduce ed

evidenzia l’Head Injury Criterion (HIC), ovvero una misura delle probabilità di lesioni alla testa

derivanti da quell’impatto.

Airoh Production Airoh Helmet

Every Airoh Helmet ® is the result of the combined efforts of experts in different fields. Industrial

designers and engineers work together to turn an idea into a high quality protection device.

The first product engineering stage consists of creating a 3D model of the helmet and all its parts,

in order to simulate the capacity of absorbing impacts with FEM technology. In the wind tunnel we

evaluate the aerodynamics, internal venting and ergonomics.

The parts are subsequently moulded with different processes, based on the type of material:

thermoplastics use a sophisticated melting process with injection moulds; composite fibres use an

artisanal and meticulous approach in manually layering the fibres; the polystyrene for the inner shells

uses a steam moulding process

at high temperatures.

This is followed by the coating or application of decals, with a UV filter to increase the seal quality,

resistance and colour sheen. The interiors inserted are stitched by hand to ensure the optimum

quality of the state of the art materials and the most comfortable fit. The various components

are assembled along the assembly lines by hand by skilled personnel, who perform a meticulous

quality check of the single parts and reject any with the slightest imperfection. The final and most

important phase is the testing, where we ensure that each helmet meets the safety parameters

set by national and international standards. The helmet is marked in specific points, placed on a

dummy head and dropped on an anvil from a height of 3 metres. The machinery that performs this

process is connected to a computer that analyses the data and highlights the Head Injury Criterion

(HIC), that is the probability of head injuries due to the impact.

Helmet MaterialsAiroh Helmet ® investe molto nella ricerca e selezione dei

migliori materiali per le componenti dei suoi caschi: nella

progettazione e negli studi ingegneristici vengono considerati

quelli che possono garantire il miglior bilanciamento tra capacità

di assorbimento degli urti e leggerezza per il comfort di guida.

Le linee Airoh Helmet ® sono perciò realizzate in tre differenti

materiali, scelte di volta in volta in base alle specificità del

singolo modello:

100% Carbon Kevlar Fiber: l’intreccio di fibra di carbonio e

di kevlar (lo stesso materiale dei giubbotti antiproiettile) con

la tecnologia Multiaxial permette di realizzare caschi tanto

resistenti quanto leggeri.

HPC (High Performance Composite):

la combinazione di tessuti compositi e vetro tramite tecnologia

pre-preg permette di raggiungere risultati altamente

performanti sia in termini di resistenza che di leggerezza.

HRT (High Resistant Thermoplastic): la resina termoplastica,

risultato della combinazione di polimeri di plastica, garantisce

alta resistenza ad un peso contenuto.

Airoh Helmet ® invests a great deal in researching and selecting

the best materials for the helmet components. In the design

and the engineering studies we assess the materials that can

guarantee the best balance between impact absorption and

lightness for riding comfort.

The Airoh Helmet ® lines are therefore constructed with three

different materials, selected for the specific requirements of

each single model:

100% Carbon Kevlar Fiber: weaving together carbon fibre and

Kevlar - the same material used for bullet-proof vests - with the

Multiaxial technology, allows us to create helmets that are as

resistant as they are light.

HPC (High Performance Composite):

the combination of composite materials and glass with the

pre-preg technology allows us to achieve high performance

products in terms of protection and lightness.

HRT (High Resistant Thermoplastic): the thermoplastic resin,

which is a combination of plastic polymers, guarantees high

impact resistance with a limited weight.

In our constant pursuit of perfection we have built an

in-house wind tunnel, to carry out in-depth research on

aerodynamics and ventilation.

This allows us to create slender designs that channel air,

reduce drag, increase the ventilation inside the helmet and

improve performance.

Quest’anno gli sforzi del reparto R&D si sono concretizzati nel

sistema Airoh Multiaction Safety System (AMS2), un nuovo modo

di pensare la calotta protettiva interna.

AMS2 è il nuovo brevetto Airoh Helmet ®,

che fa il suo debutto con il casco Aviator 2.3.

Questo sistema innovativo utilizza una doppia calotta interna in

polistirolo, composta da due calotte sovrapposte

e separate da un particolare sistema

ad inserti siliconici.

Questi elementi siliconici permettono alla calotta esterna un

movimento che consente, in caso di urto angolare, di assecondare

la direzione dell’impatto, smorzando la quantità di energia

trasmessa direttamente alla testa di chi indossa il casco.

AMS2 è frutto di accurati studi per determinare le dinamiche di

incidente più frequenti e, conseguentemente, le caratteristiche

degli urti che il casco deve andare ad assorbire, per trovare la

risposta più adatta per la sicurezza del rider.

This year our R&D efforts have resulted in the Airoh Multiaction

Safety System (AMS2), a new of designing the inner protective

shell.

AMS2 is the new Airoh Helmet ® patent, that makes its debut with

the Aviator 2.3.

This innovative system uses a double polystyrene inner shell,

consisting of two overlaid shells, separated by a unique system of

silicone inserts.

The silicone inserts allow the outer shell to move in case of

angular collisions, so that it can follow the direction of the

impact, reducing the amount of energy transmitted directly to

the head of the rider wearing

the helmet.

AMS2 is the result of in-depth studies to determine the

most frequent dynamics in accidents and, consequently, the

characteristics of the collisions that a helmet has to absorb, to

find the most suitable solution for a rider’s safety.

Il casco è un dispositivo di sicurezza e come tale bisogna essere informati sulle rigide norme omologative.Conoscere il proprio casco è importante: l’etichetta che trovate cucita su ogni cinturino può darci molte informazioni utili sulla fabbricazione del casco stesso e sulle sue caratteristiche ai fini di un utilizzo corretto.

L’etichetta è una vera e propria carta d’identità e vi consigliamo di non acquistare caschi privi di etichetta!L’omologazione di ogni casco viene concessa solo ai caschi che soddisfano la normativa ECE 22-05 e che quindi sono considerati sicuri e omologati per l’utilizzo in tutta la U.E. Knowing your helmet is important: the label, that you found sewn on each strap, can give us lots of useful information on the manufacture and features of the helmet for a proper use. The label is a real ID card and we recommend to not buy helmets unlabelled!

The Homologation of each helmet is granted only to helmets that respect the ECE 22-05 regulation and that they are considered safe and homologated for use in all U.E. The arrangement of the elements within the label can transform but it must definitely indicate a range of values. Here is a brief focus:

E: indicates the European homologation.You can use the helmet in the European countries.

3: indicates the country which realized the homologation.In this case Italy

05: indicates the homologation ECE version.It can be 03 – 04 – 05; The 05 indicates the version most recent
