IMPERFECT physical condition is not an obstacle for peoplewith disabilities to entertain and inspire the visitors of Bali ArtsFestival (BAF) 2011. By coalescing into the Rwa Bhineda art stu-dio, they presented Gita Shanti and Genjek arts at Angsoka Stageon Tuesday (Jun 28). Their performance aroused the sympathy andreceived great applause from the audience.

From the beginning, the people with disability, largely consist-ing of the blind, could draw the attention of spectators. Despitewith disability, they did not give up at all. Their spirit to preserveBalinese arts and culture should be appreciated. In their appear-ance at BAF, they presented the Gita Santhi psalmody and Genjekart. Through a solemn and melodious traditional psalmodic song, they invited visitors to make introspection to anticipate a fight dueto different opinion.

Their performance was resumed with Genjek. They chanted 10songs telling about their life as itinerant masseur whose incomewas insufficient to meet daily needs. Essentially, they would liketo deliver a message in order government could pay attention totheir destiny. Performance of the art studio mostly consisting ofpeople with disabilities, largely the blind, could touch the audi-ence and won a rousing applause from spectators thronging theAngsoka Stage.

Director of the art studio, I Made Gde Mandra, said the disabledhad a high enthusiasm in art creativity. They were willing to hire amotorcycle taxi and spend money to learn singing. “I am moved bytheir passion because they can show off superiority in terms ofspirit to preserve Balinese art and culture though they are not sup-ported by adequate physical condition. On that account, I am go-ing to continuously nurture and motivate them. Their art spiritshould be an inspiration for Balinese young people,” he said. (wid)

A legislator in Denpasar Housefrom the local hamlet, I Ketut Nuada,Wednesday (Jun 29) expected anyappropriate actions from relevantagencies to anticipate the threat offlooding in the future. At least, he said, the flooding should be resolved bymaking permanent storm drain thatcould stream the runoff at locationwhen it rained.

One of the solutions consideredvery appropriate to reduce the threatof flooding in the region was by mak-ing a storm drain to Ayung River. Thestorm drain could be made startingfrom the north of Warung Mina, southwards and then eastwards of SD2 Peguyangan primary school. “Bythe storm drain, stagnant water in thenorth of Warung Mina can be

SINCE the 33rd Bali Arts Festi-val (BAF) 2011 was held, Balinesedancers and gamelan players hadperformed a number of significantart compositions. When appreciatedcarefully, the dance, gamelan mu-sic and visual arts showed off actu-ally retained a lot of interpretablephilosophies. In other words, thespectacles presented containedmoral messages of life. On that ac-count, BAF as a medium to explore, develop and preserve Balinese cul-ture deserved a good appreciation.Through BAF, the arts that formerlyexisted in the midst of society couldbe reconstructed. Meanwhile, thearts that had been familiar amongolder generation could be passed onto young generations of Bali atpresent and in the future.

One of the arts compositionscontaining full of guidance wasPrembon Mask. In BAF 2011 thisyear, the art of masks also obtaineda pretty good portion through a pa-rade. On that account, each envoyof regency/city came to perform thearts of Prembon Mask. As last Fri-day (Jun 24), Gianyar Regency rep-resented by Taruna Mekar masktroupe from Kebon Hamlet,Singapadu, featured the perfor-

IT’S unnecessary to be a comedian to be able to make spectators laugh. This was proved by the appearance of elementary school children fromall regencies/city across Bali in the competition of macecimpedan (rid-dling) at Ayodya Stage, Bali Art Center, Tuesday (Jun 28). It was veryabsorbing and good to watch because it could enrich the perspective andmake visitors of Bali Arts Festival (BAF) 2011 laugh.

The competition was divided into three rounds, namely preliminary, semifinal and final round. Each team consisted of two participants. Theywere provided a minute to think about the answer to question given by theopponent. Interestingly, the time was not only taken advantage to think, but also to taunt each other, hit each other and have argument.

Ultimately, Bangli and Klungkung Regency could achieve finalround. The competition lasted attractively because both teams wereattacking each other and their riddles were very complicated until caus-ing viewers to frown. Klungkung was represented by two sisters com-prising Putu Sekar Yuningsih and Made Sari Yuningsih of SDN 2Semarapura Kangin primary school. Meanwhile, Bangli was repre-sented by Ni Made Ayu Citra Putri Sani and Ni Komang Hartanti ofSDN 3 Abuan.

Both teams were equally deft and nosy. They mutually taunted whileinterspersed with fresh humors. It thoroughly drew laughter of the audi-ences. Moreover, it was guided by a hilarious host. At the end, Banglimanaged to conquer its rival by a score of 8-2. “This accomplishment isinseparable from guidance and support extended by our coaches consist-ing of Nyoman Wanayasa and Nengah Sudiarna. Our headmaster, MadeSarjana, also continuously motivated us,” said Ayu and Hartanti.

Competition that was regularly organized in BAF was expected to pre-serve the Balinese language vocabulary. Besides, it could also sharpen theintellect of participants because riddles contained the elements of logic.Tough mental could also be formed in the presence of an argument overthe riddles submitted. Even, they suppressed each other to mentally bringdown the opponent.

In the meantime, the jury, Ketut Jirnaya, said there were several crite-ria in the riddle competition, such as they should not refer to modernthings, the question had to be expressed in Balinese language, and thequestion should not be ambiguous or in the sense that one question shouldhave only one answer. Overall, he said, the competition went onflourishingly as expected. “Through this contest, we expect the archaicvocabularies will not come to extinction,” he said. (wid)

TEHRAN, Iran — A senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard com-mander claimed on Tuesday that his country has the ability to producemissiles with an even greater range than those currently in its arsenal.

already boasts missiles with a rangeof about 1,250 miles (2,000 kilo-meters) that were specifically de-signed for Israel and U.S. targets. The two missiles in Iran’s posses-sion that have such a range are theShahab-3 and the Sajjil.

“There is no threat from anycountry to us other than the U.S.and the Zionist regime,” Hajizadehwas quoted as saying by the semi-official Fars news agency. “Therange of our missiles has been de-

signed on the basis of the distanceto the Zionist regime and the U.S.bases in the Persian Gulf region.”

Hajizadeh said Iran “possesses thetechnology” to manufacture missileswith a range greater than 1,250 miles, but said “we have no intention to pro-duce such missiles.” He did notelaborate. In Israel, Foreign Minis-try spokesman Yigal Palmor de-nounced Hajizadeh’s remarks.

“This new Iranian bragging dem-onstrates once again the aggressivepolicies of the ayatollahs’ regime,”Palmor said. “Not that we had anydoubts prior to this statement. Butthis renewed threat makes it obvi-ous why Iran is the No. 1 threat tothis whole region and beyond.”

Whennew moon is used then the celebration always happens onnew moon or full moon. Panicked guests were told tostay in their rooms as the attack-ers, thought to have suicide vests, machine guns and rocket-pro-pelled grenades, roamed throughthe building.

Major Tim James, a spokesmanfor NATO’s International SecurityAssistance Force, said ISAF de-ployed one helicopter at the re-quest of Afghan authorities.

“It flew over the hotel, circledit a few times. They were able toclearly identify a number of in-surgents who were armed andwearing suicide vests and thenthey engaged the individuals withsmall-arms fire,” James told AFP.

“We’ve had reports that therewere a number of explosionscaused either by the insurgentsdetonating themselves or the en-gagement by the helicopter caus-ing that (suicide vests) to ex-plode,” he said.

Witnesses identified the NATOaircraft as an Apache attack heli-copter.

A member of staff namedEzatullah said he hid in a roomon the fifth floor when the attackstarted.

Security at most high-end hotelsin Kabul was significantly steppedup after an attack on the citycentre’s Serena Hotel in 2008 leftseven people dead.

The Intercontinental is less de-luxe than the Serena, which is thefavoured choice of foreign officialsand business people visiting the Af-ghan capital.

The US State Department said:“The United States strongly con-demns the attack on the Interconti-nental Hotel in Kabul, which onceagain demonstrates the terrorists’complete disregard for human life.”

During the assault, AFP report-

ers saw 10-15 armoured vehiclescarrying Afghan commandos en-tering the hotel compound.

The reporters heard five sepa-rate explosions as the attack un-folded and said the hotel was indarkness after power in the areawas apparently cut. Ambulancesrushed to the site to ferry awaycasualties.

Taliban spokesman ZabihullahMujahid said the militant Islam-ist group was behind the attack, which comes weeks before for-eign forces are expected to startwithdrawals from Afghanistan.

Some 10,000 US troops aredue to leave the country this year, ahead of the planned end of for-eign combat operations at the endof 2014. Security in Kabul is al-ready under the control of Afghanforces.

Tabanan Regency stating to con-stantly raise the admission fee to twoleading tourist objects by 200 percentby considering that 200 percent in-crease was still considered reasonablewhen compared to the rates appliedtoday. Even, Tabanan Regency con-sidered the tariff to remain cheap ifcompared to other destinations out-side Bali.

“We continue to reject the planto increase the tariff whose plafondis very high. Tourist destinations inBali should not be compared tothose in Jakarta or elsewhere,” saidDeputy Chairman of ASITA Bali,Ketut Ardana, in Denpasar, Mon-day (Jun 27).

DENPASAR - Tabanan Regency insisting on raising the ad-mission fee to leading tourist attractions up to 200 percent byJanuary 1, 2012 reaped refusal from tourism perpetrators.Hundreds of travel agency entrepreneurs under the Associa-tion of Indonesian Tour and Travel Agencies (ASITA) of BaliChapter remained to refuse the amount of the tariff increase.

Ardana, did not only complicateASITA and the members when deal-ing with local government, but alsodiminished the competitiveness in theglobal marketplace. “For us, risingthe admission fee to tourist destina-tion does not matter, but its magni-tude must be reviewed, do notoverdo,” he said.

Such significant rate increase, rec-ognized Ardana, would greatly affectthe price of tour packages offered bytravel agencies to consumers becauseto sell a tourist destination, travelagency could not sell tourist destina-tion one by one. “We sell them inpackages, so any significant increasewould greatly affect the package weoffer. If we also increase the price, itwill definitely no longer competitiveagainst the others,” he complained.

According to him, if the policy

would be applied in January 2012,ASITA would threaten to no longerinclude Tanah Lot and Bedugul intheir tour packages as tourist desti-nation. He hoped Tabanan Regencyimmediately invite the tourism stake-holders before realizing the plan. “Weare ready to be invited for negotia-tion, but so far there has been no in-vitation from Tabanan,” he said.

In the meantime, Chairman of theIndonesia Tourism Industry Associa-tion (GIPI) of Bali Chapter, NgurahWijaya, previously stated the increase

of tariff should be accompanied withan increase in services and support-ing facilities.

“Price determines services andquality of a tourism product. If thereis an increase, it should be poisedby improvement of the two compo-nents. For example, tourists visitingTanah Lot Tour should be presentedwith a panoramic view of Tanah Lotas distinctive icon, not a row of artshops,” he said.

According to him, the existenceof tourism supporting facilities at

a number of tourist destinations inBali stayed far from adequate. Oneof the attractions for tourist com-ing to Bali still required a changein terms of infrastructure, support-ing facilities and professionalismof human resources managing thetourist destinations.

“I do hope that tourist destina-tions in Bali should be managed bypeople who have a clear vision andmission as well as good under-standing on tourism management,”he said. (par)

Change Smoking Habit by Law Enforcement“We ask smokers to smoke in des-

ignated places. This is all aimed forour common health,” Pastika said, adding that smoking habit without theconstraint has become an acceptedsocial norm for years.

He said that if there was any at-tempt to avoid the cigarette smoke ofothers, it was more generally becauseof impaired convenience rather thanthe awareness of threatening healthrisks.

The governor said permissive at-titude towards smoking in any placewithout any restricting rules has madethe smokers feel entitled to smokeanywhere without realizing that theyhave violated the rights of others.

“Most of the active smokers actu-ally do not care if their cigarettesmoke harms the non-smokers be-

cause for years they have been spoiledby the environment to smoke any-where and any place as they wish,”the governor said.

Therefore he asserted that the gov-ernment was obliged to establish aneffective regulation to protect thenon-smoking community.

He said the government’s serious-ness could be seen from the continu-ous campaigns in cooperation withthe managers of public places andworkplaces to step up the people’s un-derstanding of the dangers of smok-ing.

Mangku Pastika pointed out thatno-smoking areas covered healthcarefacilities, places of learning andteaching or schools, places of wor-ship, public transportation, workplaces, and bus stations.

Apparently the importance ofcoral reefs to the preservation ofmarine biota has been realized byfisherman groups in Buleleng Re-gency. When the coral reefs in thewaters of Tejakula Village,Tejakula Subdistrict, were dam-aged, a group of fishermen in thevillage set to take action by strictlyoverseeing the reef theft and moni-toring the behavior of fishermenwho used to catch fish by meansof potassium cyanide and fishbombs.

As coral reefs in the other wa-ter territory of Indonesia, the coralreefs in the coastal areas ofTejakula Village have long suf-fered from severe damage. It iscaused by the behavior of fisher-men catching fish by using chemi-cals such as potassium cyanide.More seriously, some others caughtfish by fish bombs and stole coralreefs for lime materials.

The damage occurred to the un-derwater environment in Tejakulareached its peak in 1999. But sincethen, people in the coastal areas, especially fishermen, began to re-alize. If the sea is not saved, theirlife will be threatened because sofar their life indeed relies on theprofession of catching consump-tion fish or ornamental fish. That’swhy they start doing preservation.

Secretary of Baruna BerathaFisherman Group, Tejakula Vil-lage, Nyoman Darmawan, said theimpact of damaged coral reefsmade the catching fish population

Fishermen of Tejakula Preserve Coral Reefsfall dramatically. Fish food (plank-ton) living in the coral reefs in-creasingly reduced, so that fishpopulation also reduced. Underthese conditions, it was difficult toincrease the catch of fishermenevery day. “Fish population willdiminish because small fishes liv-ing around the coral reefs no longersurvive,” he said.

According to Darmawan, sincethe fish famine condition localfishermen began to realize if thecoral reefs had been damaged.Since then, fishermen indepen-dently performed the maintenanceand preservation to the remainingcoral reefs that could be saved. Thegroup began to oversee the activi-ties of fishermen catching fish bychemicals. Even, they did not hesi-tate to arrest the residents whowere proved to catch fish bychemicals and apprehend thosewho attempted to steal the coralreefs.

With strict supervision, thedamage to coral reefs gradually re-duced. Nevertheless, the extent ofcoral reefs reaching approximately1.3 square kilometers was stilldamaged so far. By limited equip-ment, the fishermen found diffi-culty to carry out the replacementtechniques to the dead coral reefs.Later on, they asked a support tovillage apparatus in order the pres-ervation efforts could be facilitatedby government or donors. “Wehave been able to maintain thecoral reefs, but we cannot restore

the dead ones,” he said.Armed with persistence of the

village apparatus and local fisher-man group, they established theMarine Protection Areas (DPL) atTejakula Village. Management ofthe institution had been entrustedto the fisherman group. The grouphad the tasks to protect the fishingarea from the use of chemicals andprovide the techniques to restorethe damaged coral reefs. Localgovernment through the BulelengMarine Fisheries (Diskanla) alsoprovided assistance in the form ofseven Hexadom (artificial reefs).“We are given some artificial reefsand hopefully they could graduallyreplace the dead ones,” he ex-plained.

Persistence of fishermen to restorethe coral reefs increasingly drew moreattention from the circle of tourismbusinesspeople in Tejakula. They alsohad interest in the coast and then helpedthe fishermen restore the coral reefs.Even, one of the businessmen inTejakula provided with artificial reefs. The entrepreneur was in partnershipwith the Reef Check non-governmentorganization to help local fishermenrestore the coral reefs. “By stipulationas marine protection area and sup-ported by government, employers andNGOs, we have confidence if coralreefs here will recover by degrees. Sofar we have often escorted guests tosnorkel around the marine protectionarea while carrying out the mainte-nance of coral reefs,” explainedDarmika. (BTN/kmb)

CANBERRA — Australia’s best-known Outback cattle ranch hasbeen put on the market by an owner who on Wednesday blamed thecountry’s ban on livestock exports to Indonesia for destroying herlivelihood.

The decision to sell iconic Bullo River Station in the NorthernTerritory is the latest evidence of the economic hardship grippingtropical Australian cattle country since the government announcedon June 8 that livestock exports to Indonesia were banned for up tosix months because of animal cruelty concerns in Indonesian slaugh-terhouses.

The 40,000-acre (160,000-hectare) family owned property wasmade famous by matriarch Sara Henderson, who wrote about it in sixbooks including her best-selling autobiography “From Strength toStrength,” published in 1993.

It told of her family’s struggle to manage the remote and expan-sive ranch — known in Australia as a cattle station — after her Ameri-can-born husband Charlie Henderson died in 1985. Sara Hendersonretired from ranching before she died in 2005, aged 68.

Her daughter who now owns the ranch, Marlee Ranacher, saidWednesday that the ban was the last straw for her and other rancherslike her in northern Australia.

“If there were any way I could change this decision, I would,”Ranacher told Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio of her decision tosell.

“I wish for a miracle, but there aren’t many of those around at themoment, and this is definitely the last straw because the government,I believe, is legally and morally negligent to have done what theyhave done,” she added.

Australia is the world’s largest exporter of livestock. Many ranch-ers rely entirely on the 330 million Australian dollar ($350 million)per year live cattle trade with Indonesia because there are no large-scale slaughterhouses in northern Australia — and the southeast mar-ket where most Australians live is too distant.

Ranacher said her ranch had not sold any cattle since the region’smonsoon season set in October last year. Now in the current dry sea-son when the cattle trade resumes, she had nowhere to send her 8,000Brahman cattle specifically bred for the Indonesian market.

She said she could not afford the diesel fuel needed during the dryseason to pump underground water into troughs for the cattle to drink.

“I don’t know what else we can do but start shooting them. I can’tstand there and watch them die of thirst,” she said, adding that nonehad yet died.

Ranch salesman Andrew Gray said Bullo River Station was thefirst ranch in the Northern Territory to be put on the market since thetrade ban began and he did not expect other ranchers would sell.

“Station owners are really hoping trade recommences at some stagesoon, but it’s highly unlikely people would just throw their keys on thecounter and walk out,” Gray told The Australian newspaper. He did notimmediately return The Associated Press’s call on Wednesday.

The government announced on Monday an AU$3 million compen-sation package for meat industry workers such as cattle truck driverswho had lost income through the trade ban.

But Ranacher said no financial help had been offered to the ranchowners.

The government wants the cattle industry-owned marketing com-pany Meat and Livestock Australia to provide AU$5 million to feedand water thousands of cattle stranded by the ban.

The ban followed gruesome footage broadcast on Australian tele-vision that showed cattle in Indonesian slaughterhouses were beatenand took minutes to bleed to death as their throats were repeatedlyslashed.

The government said the trade would be halted while Australian andIndonesian authorities work to ensure that the exported animals aretreated according to World Organization for Animal Health guidelines.

Lagarde received support frommany major Asian economies eventhough she perpetuates a pattern theydespise of Europeans holding the topIMF job. No Asian candidate steppedforward to challenge Lagarde andMexico’s Agustin Carstens.

Review: ‘Transformers’ is another loud bruiserval footage involving the 1960smoon race, along with images thatmay disturb younger kids as a suc-cession of screaming, scramblinghumans are vaporized by the ‘botslike insects in a bug zapper.

In 3-D, too, so you get to wearthose clunky glasses for thefranchise’s longest movie yet. It re-ally felt like people didn’t matter in2009’s “Transformers: Revenge ofthe Fallen,” a mega-blockbuster de-spite being little more than a turgidassemblage of computer-generatedmachine parts thrashing about.

So Bay and his collaborators setout to show the flesh-and-blood con-sequences in the war between thebenevolent Autobots and their evil

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas was quick to dismisscomparisions with Jose Mourinho as he used his official intro-duction at Stamford Bridge to insist he is not the new ‘SpecialOne’. Villas-Boas worked for Mourinho as an opposition scoutduring his fellow Portuguese’s time in charge at Porto, Chelseaand Inter Milan and has spent much of his brief managerial ca-reer following in the footsteps of the controversial coach.

The 33-year-old managed Porto last season and has now takencharge of the Premier League club where Mourinho enjoyed threeyears of unprecedented success before an acrimonious exit in2007. Inevitably that has led Villas-Boas to be dubbed ‘the mini-Mourinho’, but his style is far more diplomatic than the brashMourinho and he refused to emulate his predecessor’s self-aggrandising arrival at Chelsea.

While Mourinho used his first press conference at Chelsea man-ager in 2004 to describe himself as “a special one”, Villas-Boasprefers to work as part of a collective and suggested that if he hadto have a label it should be “the group one”. “This is not a one-man show, it is a question of creating empathy and raising ambi-tions in the players and staff around me,” Villas-Boas said.

“I’m just one gear in this big club that wants to be successfulevery year. The challenge at Chelsea is to win as soon as possibleand build a solid platform for the future. “Maybe I should be thecalled ‘the group one’, I want to group people together to be suc-cessful. “My title, I will wait for you guys to give it to me when Iam successful. I hope to get a good title in the end.”

Despite spending several years working with Mourinho, thepair are no longer on speaking terms after Villas-Boas angeredhis former boss by quitting his backroom role at Inter to becomea boss in his own right at Portuguese minnows Academica deCoimbra in 2009.

Even so, Villas-Boas had no hesitation in describing Mourinho’stime at Chelsea as the standard he has to live up to. “It is normalthat he is mentioned as part of the history of this club, the tro-phies you see here have been won by him,” Villas-Boas said.

“It is almost as if he is part of this press conference sitting nextto me! “Of course you know we dont speak for a long time butthere are no hard feelings, just two busy people in football.”

DRESDEN, Germany — For 45 minutes, the Americans were sloppy and slow, looking verymuch like the inconsistent bunch whose road to Germany was marked by bumps and potholes.

was the fourth straight World Cup thatthe teams met in the group stage, andthe U.S. has won all but one of thegames. As the Americans celebratedon the field, delighting a crowd thatwas decidedly pro-American, theNorth Koreans stood just beyondmidfield, watching.

Afterward, North Korean coachKim Kwang Min blamed his team’sfailings in the second half on a June8 lightning strike during training inPyongyang that sent “more than five”players to the hospital. GoalkeeperHong Myong Hui, four defenders andsome of the midfielders were theplayers most affected, Kim said.

“The physicians actually said theplayers were not capable of playingin the tournament,” he said throughan interpreter. “They’re not physi-cally ready for this match, but theyhad a strong will.”

The North Koreans didn’t seemas if anything was amiss, nearlymatching the Americans in posses-sion (53 percent to 47 percent) andgetting seven shots on goal. And thelightning strike seemed to catch ev-

The Americans are the top-ranked team in the world, two-timedefending Olympic champions, andhave the best goalkeeper (HopeSolo) and one of the best strikers(Wambach) in the game. Yet for thelast few months, all they’ve heardabout are their shortcomings and in-consistency.

HAMBURG, Germany — Wladimir Klitschko believes he isthe man to deliver the therapeutic defeat he thinks David Hayeneeds to become a “better person” after their highly anticipatedheavyweight fight on Saturday. The fighters have been swappingthreats that perhaps go beyond the often outrageous buildups tofights — both have predicted sending the other to hospital afterthe bout in Hamburg’s soccer stadium.

Haye’s antics seem to have irritated Klitschko, who says Hayeneeds a reality check and therapy for his big mouth. “My name isDr. Klitschko. I am a therapist and on July 2 I am going to giveyou treatment. It is going to be reality rehab. I will knock you outinto reality, which will be good for your life.

“You will be a better person and have better manners,”Klitschko told Haye, who was sitting next to him at a news con-ference on Monday. The 35-year-old Klitschko, the IBF, WBOand IBO champion who has a 55-3 record with 49 KOs, has adoctorate degree in sports science.

Haye, the 30-year-old WBA champion, appeared unimpressed, neither by Klitschko’s academic nor the boxing record. “This isgoing to be the most brutal execution of a boxer that you’ve seenfor many, many years,” Haye predicted. “I’m going to go out thereand absolutely destroy him, really quickly.”

The fight has been in the making for more than two years andHaye has used the time to repeatedly mock Wladimir and his olderbrother Vitali, the WBC champion. Lewis Hamilton has insisted that he remains focused ondoing all he can to win the world championship this year, despite having admitted in Valencia on Sunday night that thetitle fight was all but over. Less than 24 hours after Hamiltonsuggested that runaway championship leader Sebastian Vettelhad ‘pretty much’ guaranteed the title already, the McLarendriver amazingly took a snipe at the media reports of what hehad said.

DANI Pedrosa has confirmed that hewill return to MotoGP for thisweekend’s Italian Grand Prix, six weeksafter breaking his collarbone at LeMans.

The Honda rider sustained the injuryin a collision with Marco Simoncelliduring the French round of the worldchampionship, and then required a sec-ond operation to fix a further fragmentof bone.

“For weeks I’ve been wanting to writethat I’m back to competition and I canfinally do it,” Pedrosa wrote in his blogfor sponsor Repsol.

“These weeks have been difficult, butI knew that I had to focus on recoveringto climb on the bike in the best possibleshape. As I said last week, Mugello wasthe goal and that’s the only thing I’m

thinking now.” “I’m going to Italy eagerto get on the bike, to see what my feel-ings are and to compete.

“Apart from getting on the bike, I alsowant to see the team again, work with themand try to do things right. At the end of theday we are like a family. You miss themwhen you don’t compete for so long.”

Pedrosa added that he was optimistiche was back to full fitness now, althoughhe would not be totally certain until hewas back on the bike.

“As for the recovery, the situation hasimproved a lot since I had my last sur-gery,” he said.

“It seems that we found the problemand the good feeling that I had two daysafter the operation have been confirmedduring the past week. Now I see to seehow I feel on the bike.”

Writing on his Twitter feed, Hamilton said: “To all our sup-porters, ignore what u read in the papers today. My team willnever give up & I WILL NEVER GIVE UP!!!!

“Bring on Silverstone, ur support will make a world of dif-ference to us. I’m going to the factory now to do all I can withour team. Lewis.” Hamilton’s annoyance with the media re-ports of what he said, on the back of a difficult weekend inValencia, provides further evidence of the frustrations he is feel-

ing at the moment at the dominanceof Red Bull Racing.

However, speaking to the PressAssociation, Hamilton said it wouldbe wrong of him to ask McLaren todo any more than it already is - be-cause everyone is pushing to themaximum.

“They are doing what they can, working as hard as they can,” saidHamilton. “Can we all do a better job?I can do a better job, they can do a bet-ter job, and we can always improve.“But you know, they are on the limit, being pushed as hard as they can. Theengineers and people designing thingsback home are flat out, and sometimesyou get it right, sometimes you don’t.I really don’t have any answers to it.

“I pushed as hard as I could in therace, but I just didn’t have the car be-neath me and I don’t expect to have itmassively beneath me in the next race.

“We hope it’s a bit cooler there, maybe that will play into our hands, but we don’t have the downforce theRed Bull has, and now the Ferrari.”
