1.1 Introduction
Thismanualcontainstheinformationyouneedtoinstall,operate,andmaintainyourMR050ASeriesDryLine®dehydrator.Pleasetakethetimetoreadthismanualbeforeattemptingtooperateorservicetheunit.
1.2 Description
MR050ASeriesdehydratorsprovidedryairforpressurizingsmall(upto280liters,or10cubicfeet,involume)antennaandtransmissionlinesystems.Thedehydratorsproduce-40ºC(-40ºF)dewpointdryairatanominalrateof1.4liters(0.05cubicfeet)perminuteuptoatotalof8495Iiters(300cubicfeet)onasingledesiccantcanister.
Eachdehydratorconsistsofanelectrically-drivenaircompressor,adesiccantcanister,anautomatictransmissionlinepressuresensingsystem,andalarmoutputshousedinarigidmetalchassis.Itisdesignedtomountdirectlytotherack,directlyonawall,orasafree-standingunit.Thefrontpanelfeaturesacontrolinterfacewithdisplayforalarmsandpressure.Foreasyserviceability,powerconnections,alarmoutputconnections,andthedesiccantcanisterareeasilyaccessiblefromthefrontoftheunit.
TheMR050Amaintainstransmissionlinepressuresbetween2.0and3.4kPa(0.3and0.5psig).Itisintendedforusewithhighperformancemicrowaveantennasandearthstationantennas.
1.3 Operation
MR050Aseriesdehydratorsincludeacompressor,colorindicatingdesiccant,highandlow-pressuresensors,andalow-pressurealarmsensor.
Whensystempressurefallstoapresetlowlimit,thelow-pressuresensoractivatesthecompressor.Airischanneledthroughadesiccantcanister,wheremoistureisadsorbed.Theairexitsthedryingcanisterat-40°C(-40°F)dewpoint.Itisthenchanneleddirectlytoaninternal4-portmanifold
. Whensystempressurereachesapresethigh
limit,thehigh-pressuresensorshutsoffthecompressor.Acheckvalvepreventssystemdryairfromretreatingbackthroughthecompressor.
Ifsystempressurefallssignificantlybelowthelow-pressuretriggerpoint,thelow-pressurealarmsensorwillactivateanalarmcontact.Thisalarmisanindicationofasignificantsystemleakoradehydratorfailure.
1.4 Alarms
TheMR050AoffersLowPressureandPowerFailalarmsasastandardfeature.Alarmconditionsareindicatedonthedisplay.Alarmsareoutputasacommonsummaryalarm,withaformCdrycontact.Thealarmissetforcontinuityonalarm.

1.4.1 Multiple Alarm Option
ThisoptionalassemblyisdesignedtoprovidetheadditionalHighHumidityalarmtoAndrewDehydrators.AllalarmsareFormCdrycontactsandarefactorysetforcontinuityatalarm(mainspowerfailalarmopensatalarm).
Thisoptionalassemblywillalsoindicatediscretealarmsonthedisplay,andprovideindividualcontactsandconnectionsfordiscretealarms.
Theexternalalarmmonitoringsystem(suppliedbyothers)isconnectedtotheterminalstriplocatedonthefrontofthecabinet.Asmallslottedscrewdriverisnecessarytomaketheconnections.
Alarm Definitions:
Power Fail: Activatesopenwhenpowerisremovedfromthedehydrator.Thisincludesturningthepoweroffattheswitch.
High Humidity: Activateswhensystemordehydratoroutputhumidityriseabove7.5%relativehumidity.Atinitialinstallation,thisalarmwillcontinuetoalarmuntilthesystemhasbeenproperlypurged.
Excess Run: Factorysetruntimeissetinaccordancewiththenormalruntimeforthedehydratorapplication.Selectabletimesare30minutes,withthe10minuteasdefaultontheMR050A.
Low Pressure: Ifsystempressurefallsbelowthelow-pressuretriggerpoint,thelow-pressurealarmsensorwillactivateanalarmcontact.Thisalarmisanindicationofasignificantsystemleakoradehydratorfailure.

Note:
If the transmission lines have not been purged, continue with section 2.7. Otherwise proceed to section 3.
2.7 Purging the Transmission Line
Airinthetransmissionlinesystemmustbereplacedwithdryairtoensuresatisfactoryoperationofthetransmittedsignal.
1. Determinethetotalsystemvolume.
2. Dividethesystemvolumebytheflowrateofthedehydrator(3.0SCFH)todeterminethenumberofhoursneededforthepurgecycle.
3. Openthefarendofthetransmissionline.
4. Operatethedehydratorforthreepurgecycles.
Ifitisnotpossibletoopenthefarendofthetransmissionline,followthesesteps:
1. Connectthedehydratortothetransmissionlineandpressurizethesystem.Thesystempressureshouldreach0.5PSIG.
2. Wait15minuteswhiletheairabsorbsmoistureinthesystem,thendisconnectthedehydratorfromthetransmissionlineandallowtheairtovent.
3. Repeatsteps1and2twelvetimestopurgethesystem.
Test the Dehydrator
TurnthedehydratorONandchecktheoutputportontherearoftheunittomakesureairisflowing.
2.5 Connecting the Alarm Outputs
Toconnectthealarms,locatethealarmoutputterminalblockonthefrontoftheunit.
Optionalalarms(ifpurchased)willalsobelocatedonthisterminal(seesection1.4forterminalnumbers).
2.6 Connecting Dehydrator to the Transmission Line
Insertoneendofthe3/8”polytubefeedlinetubingintothecompressionfittingononeofthedehydratoroutputports.Tightensecurelywitha9/16”wrench.Becarefulnottoovertighten.Connecttheotherendofthepolytubetothetransmissionline.

MaintenanceSection 3 3.0 Maintenance
TheMR050ADehydratorrequiresrelativelylittlemaintenancetoensuresatisfactoryoperationoverlongperiodsoftime.Thissectionoutlinestherecommendedannualpreventivemaintenancefortheunitandthesuggestedoverhaulforevery6000hoursofcompressoroperation.
3.1 Preventive Maintenance
TheannualmaintenanceofaMR050Aconsistsofapreventativemaintenanceinspectionofthedehydrator.
Thesetaskscaneasilybeperformedinthefieldwiththeunitconnectedtothetransmissionlinesystem.
Inadditiontotheannualinspection,acompleteoverhaulisrecommendedevery6000hoursorsooneriflocalconditionswarrant.
3.2 Desiccant Replacement
Asthedesiccantbecomessaturatedovertime,itwillchangefrombluetopink.Whenthedesiccantisexhausted,therewillbeadegradationofperformance.Inordertoreplacethedesiccant,simplyturntheunitoff,disconnectthedesiccantcanisterfromthepneumaticlines,andreplacetheentirecanister.
3.3 Annual Inspection
Inspectionincludescheckingforlooseordamagedhoses,fittings,andelectricalconnections.Removethedesiccantcanisterandverifythattherearenoleaksinthepneumaticlines.
Warning:
Electrical Hazard! Unplug power cord before servicing unit.
Check the electrical connections.
CheckthescrewatthepowerinputconnectortoensurethattheACpowercordissecurelyterminated.Checkthescrew-inalarmterminalstoensurethatallwireconnectionsaretight.
Alooseordamagedconnectionmayresultinerraticoperationandunnecessarydowntime.Refertothetroubleshootingsectionifanelectricalproblemisencountered.
Check the ground wire.
Checkthatanelectricalsafetygroundisinstalledonthestudontherearofthedehydrator.Thisconnectionpointisadjacenttothepowerinputconnector.(Itisintendedtobecustomerinstalledinthefield.)
Checkthehourmeteronthefrontpaneltodeterminethedutycycleofthedehydrator.
Ifthedehydratorhasbeenrunningformorethan10%ofitsinstalledtime,checkthesystemsforleaks.
3.4 Parts Replacement
WhentheMR050Adehydratorunitisinneedofservice,themaincomponentsaresimplyreplaced.Thecompressor,desiccantcanister,andcontrolmoduleareallmeanttobereplaceableparts.ThepartscanbepurchasedfromAndrewCorporationforfieldreplacement,ortheunitcanbesenttotherepaircenterforcomponentreplacement.

Unit Shutdown and Removal
InordertoperformanoverhaulontheMR050A,theunitmustbeturnedoffandremovedfromservice.Asthisisbeingdone,thelowpressurealarmmayactivatethroughareportingalarmsystem.Personnelmonitoringsuchanalarmshouldbenotifiedinadvancesothattheyareawareofthefactthatserviceisbeingperformed.Itisalsonecessarytodisconnectthedehydratordryairoutputfromthewaveguidesystemduringtheoverhaul.
Removethechassistopandfrontpanelsforoverhaul.
1. Unplugtheunitfromthepowersupply.
2 Followtheinstructionsincludedinthecompressorreplacementkit.Whenthereplacementiscomplete,reinstall.
3.5 Service Restoration
RECOMMENDATION:
Ifthedehydratoroverhaulprocesshastakenmorethanafewhours,itisrecommendedthattheunitberunforonehourintotheroom,topurgethemembranedryerandtankofanyacquiredmoisture,beforereconnectingtothetransmissionlinesystem.

TroubleshootingSection 4 Ifyouexperiencedifficultywithyourdehydrator,usethetroubleshootingproceduresdescribedbelow.
Caution: Electrical troubleshooting requires access to potentially dangerous voltages and should only be performed by a licensed electrician
Problem/Condition Solution
Dehydratordisplaydoesnotlight,unitdoesnotrun.
Low-pressurealarmactivated.
CompressordoesnotturnOFF.
Ifthedisplaylightfailstolight,makesuretheunitispluggedinandpoweroutletisoperating.
Ifyoustillhavenolight,unplugtheunit,removetheunitcoverandcheckforlooseconnections.Refertothewiringdiagramforproperconnections.
ChecktoassurethatthefuseisOK.ChecktoassurethatproperACvoltageisbeingsuppliedtotheinput.
Plugtheunitoutputwithfingerandobservepressuregauge.Thepressuregaugelineshouldreadapproximately0.5psiandthealarmshouldclear.Ifalarmdoesnotclear,removecoverandverifytubingandwiringconnectionsaresecure.
Ifthepressuredoesnotremainconstantafterpluggingtheoutput,applyleakdetectortoisolatetheleakinthedehydrator(exercisecarewhenapplyingsolutionnottowetwiringorelectronics).
Withdehydratorisolatedfromtransmissionline,observepressureintransmissionline.Ifpressuredrops,usealeakdetectorsolutiontolocateleaksinthetransmissionline.Repairleaksifpossible.
IftheproblempersistscontactAndrewCustomerService.Checkthedisplayonthecontroller.ToggletheON/OFFswitch(leftofthedisplay).Checkinputpowerpolarityandvoltageperwiringdiagram.

Andrewprovidesin-warrantyandout-of-warrantyrepairsaswellasdehydratorandcompressoroverhaulsfromseveralRepairCenters.CoordinationoftheseservicesisprovidedthroughthenearestSalesOfficeorCustomerServiceCenter.TheCenterisalsopreparedtohelpyouwiththefollowing:TechnicalAssistanceTroubleshootingRepairsLoanerUnitsSparePartsInstallationMaterialsSystemAccessories.
6.1 In Case of Trouble
Thefirststepyoushouldtakeiftroubledevelopsusingadehydratoristoreadtheoperatorsmanualandfollowthetroubleisolatingproceduresgiveninit.

6.2 Initial Steps by Andrew
Whenyourcallorfaxcommunicationisreceived,theAndrewstaffwillworkwithyoutopinpointthepossiblecauseoftrouble.Ifthepressurizationequipmentissuspect,theywill:
• askforyourunitModelNumberandSerialNumber
• checkthewarrantystatusoftheunit
• advisetheavailabilityofaloanerunitprovideofthecostforinspectionandrepairs,iftheunitisout-of-warranty
• faxaReturnGoodsAuthorizationSheettoyou.
6.3 Return Goods Instructions
AfteryouhavecontactedAndrewandreceivedaReturnGoodsAuthorizationNumber(RGN),youwillneedtotakethefollowingstepstosendthefaultyunittoaRepairCenter:
• makeacopyoftheReturnGoodsAuthorizationSheetthatwasfaxedtoyou
• writeabriefdescriptionofthetroubleyouareencounteringandattachthistothecopyofthesheet
• packtheunit(withatleast4-inchesofprotectivepackagingonallsides)
• enclosetheauthorizationsheetandtroubledescriptionwithinthebox
• encloseapurchaseorderorothermethodofpaymentfornonwarrantyrepairs.
• marktheoutsideoftheboxwiththeRGN
• returntheboxtotheRepairCenteraddresslistedontheauthorizationsheet. Ifyouhavesavedtheoriginalpackagingthatcamewiththeunit,useittoreturnthedehydratorforrepair.Ifaloanerunit(ofthesametype)wassuppliedbyAndrew,usetheloanerunitboxtoreturntheoriginaldehydrator.
6.4 Repair Center Process
TheAndrewDehydratorRepairCenterwillreceiveyourunitandinspectitforanytransportdamage.TheunitwillthenbeanalyzedfortroublesusingthedescriptionyouhavesuppliedandthespecializedexperiencetheRepairCenterstaffhavewithdehydrators.
Iftheunitisin-warranty,repairsaremadeatnochargeandtheunitwillbereturnedtoyoubythesamemodeoftransportasitwasreceived.
Iftheunitisin-warranty,butnoproblemsarefound,theunitwillbethoroughlytestedbeforebeingreturnedtoyou.Anominalinspectionfeewillbechargedforthisservice.
Ifyourunitisout-of-warranty,itwillbeinspectedandrepairedforthequotedfee.
6.5 Loaner Units
TheAndrewdehydratorRepairCentersstockalimitednumberof“loaner”dehydratorunitsofbothcurrentanddiscontinuedproducts.Theseunits,whilenotnew,arestillinexcellentworkingorder.
Loanersareavailableonafirst-comefirst-servedbasis.TheyareissuedinconjunctionwiththeoriginalRGNandareinvoicedatanominalprice.YouwillneedtorequestasecondRGNtoreturntheloanerunit.AcreditmemoisissuedbytheRepairCenterwhenaloanerisreturned

Small and Medium Capacity Dehydrator and Line Monitor System
Three Year Warranty Seller warrants that any Andrew MT050, MT/XT300, MT/XT500, MR050, PMT200 and ODPMT200 series number type DryLine® Dehydrator is transferred rightfully and with good title; that it is free from any lawful security interest or other lien or encumbrance unknown to Buyer; and that for a period of thirty-six (36) months from the date of shipment or 3000 hours of actual run time, whichever shall occur first, such equipment will be free from defects in material and workmanship which arise under proper and normal use and service. Buyer's exclusive remedy hereunder is limited to Seller's correction (either at its plant or at such other place as may be agreed upon between Seller and Buyer) of any such defects by repair or replacement (with either a new unit or a factory reconditioned unit) at no cost to Buyer; provided that the cost of any transportation in connection with the return of the equipment for the purpose of repair or replacement shall be borne by Buyer. The provisions of this warranty shall be applicable with respect to any equipment which Seller repairs or replaces pursuant to it. Expressly excluded from the terms of this warranty are defects caused by: (i) faulty installation, (ii) lack of proper inspection or maintenance, (iii) and usage not in accordance with published ratings, specifications, or instructions. The provisions of this warranty shall be applicable with respect to any equipment Seller repairs or replaces pursuant to it.
SELLER MAKES NO WARRANTY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, OTHER THAN AS SPECIFICALLY STATED ABOVE. EXPRESSLY EXCLUDED ARE ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR PURPOSE. THE FOREGOING SHALL CONSTITUTE ALL OF SELLER'S LIABILITY (EXCEPT AS TO PATENT INFRINGEMENT) WITH RESPECT TO THE EQUIPMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL SELLER BE LIABLE FOR SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, INSTALLATION COSTS, LOST REVENUE OR PROFITS, OR ANY OTHER COSTS OF ANY NATURE AS A RESULT OF THE USE OF THE EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURED BY SELLER, WHETHER USED IN ACCORDANCE WITH INSTRUCTIONS OR NOT. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHALL SELLER'S LIABILITY TO BUYER EXCEED THE ACTUAL SALES PRICE OF THE EQUIPMENT PROVIDED HEREUNDER. No representative is authorized to assume for Seller any other liability in connection with the equipment.
