Capacity Building and Establishment of a Community of Practice for Researchers and Policymakers for Evidence Use in Environmental Policymaking in Nigeria (alias EUEPiN) is part of larger project. The project is funded by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation under the aegis of the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) in collaboration with the African Academy of Sciences (The AAS) entitled 'The initiative for Expanding Evidence Leadership in Africa' (also known as Evidence Leaders in Africa).
The ELA project seeks to expand the leadership of the AAS scholars and scientists in the use of evidence in policy formulation and implementation by African governments. The project hopes to:
· Increase the number of academic leaders championing Evidence-Informed Decision Making (EIDM) in Africa
· Increase the number of government agencies in East and West Africa taking specific actions to institutionalise Evidence-Informed Decision Making (EIDM)
· Deepen evidence and expand space for Evidence-Informed Decision Making (EIDM) learning in Africa
The EUEPiN Project aims to establish a formal forum for the interaction of evidence producers (researchers) and evidence users (policymakers) in the environmental management space in Nigeria. This will provide a platform for capacity building and engagement for evidence-informed decision making (EIDM) and their implementation.
EUEPiN Achievements: Capacity Building Workshops Facilitation of Three (3) Secondments in 2020 Set Up of Three (3) Technical Working Groups Facilitation of Knowledge Translation Units at Three (3) government partner institutions Establishment of the Environmental Evidence Synthesis and Knowledge Translation (EESKT)
Research Group, TCEBCEM, University of Lagos
We welcome you to join us in this journey to promote the utilisation of scientific evidence in environmental decision/policymaking in Nigeria.
Evidence Use in Environmental Policymaking in Nigeria (EUEPiN) Project Brief
06
The EESKT-TCEBCEM aims to conduct studies, develop capacity, facilitate collaborations between evidence producers and users and institutionalize evidence-informed decision-making by policymakers and industries for environmental management and sustainability. The research group is building on the interest and uptake of the Evidence Use in Environmental policymaking in Nigeria (EUEPiN - http://euepin.unilag.edu.ng/) project which was seed-funded by the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) in collaboration with the African Academy of Sciences (The AAS) under the aegis of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.

ustainability challenges clearly call for a wider collaboration as the needed changes exceed
Sthe capacity and capability of individual actors. The discipline of Collaborative Networks has
certainly a key role to play, in the multi-stakeholder collaborative perspective in
Environmental Evidence Ecosystem.
Collaboration is all about working together to inform decisions and underpin evidence-based
policy and practice.
An ecosystem does not involve only collaboration but rather a complex interplay of collaboration
and competition, producers, consumers, regulators, and support entities.
For Strategic Collaborations and Networking in the Environmental Evidence Ecosystem, it is
said attitude, willingness to communicate and interact with other people, not only with your
immediate colleagues but with people who you have never met and increasingly, may never ever
meet physically due to “virtualisation” which has now become quite the norm, matter.
This course will thus focus on
• How can build a shared vision and mutually supportive roles that inform the success of
Environmental Evidence.
• Ideas that must be explored that will bring new insights on better governance principles and
thus reduce the percentage of failures and contribute to more sustainable business
ecosystems supported by Environmental Evidence.
Key Questions for the Course during the Workshop
1. Why do we need strategic Collaborations and Networking in the Environmental Evidence
Ecosystem?
2. Types of collaboration strategies in the Environmental Evidence Ecosystem?
3. Who are the stakeholders within the ecosystem?
4. To what extent have the stakeholders such as companies develop different and new strategies
for collaborating with research institutions within Environmental Evidence Ecosystem
innovation ecosystems?
5. How can companies operating innovation ecosystems address the challenge of collaboration
in dynamic innovation and evidence ecosystems?
6. What are the underlying Motivating factors/incentive structures for collaboration? /.
7. What Success factors and barriers to collaboration?
8. So how do we create a collaborative relationship and what model/framework do we work from
in developing strategic Collaborations and Networking in the Environmental Evidence
Ecosystem in Nigeria?
