Large prestigious university in Spain, UAB is recognised around the world for its quality and innovation in research and as a
coordinator of a potent scientific and technological
centre (Esfera UAB) and for its environmental sciences studies.
UAB has all the required techniques and methods for
material characterisation and methodologies development
related to wastewater treatment, and though its Research Group of
Separation Techniques in Chemistry, GTS - development of
new concepts in process separation and to problem-
solving applications within the water treatment sector.

The Federal University of Pará The Federal University of Pará (UFPA) is a Brazilian federal
institution of higher education. It is a multiple-campus university with operations in the state of Pará and its headquarters in the largest campus of Belem, capital of the state, located in the Amazon region of Brazil.
Nucleo de Meio Ambiente – NUMA Nucleo de Meio Ambiente – NUMA is devoted to environment
preservation and socio-economic sustainable development and
related environmental sciences with focus on the Amazon. Has
great experience on water management and supply and social
innovation.

Undergraduate Academic Institution, linked to the Amazonas State
Government, established in 2001.
The Centre for the Studies of the Centre for the Studies of the Humid Tropics (CESTU) Humid Tropics (CESTU) presents a multidisciplinary character,
implementing environmental programs in the fields of utilization of natural resources, conservation and/or preservation of regional ecosystems, life quality of
vulnerable populations, social and ecological issues of the Pan-
American Amazon.

Activities On-site training related to the rationale and
benefits of water treatment techniques and technologies combined with social innovation approaches
Support community-driven development techniques
and technologies for improving access to Water
Promoting social innovation for the most vulnerable populations, innovative education and training
Facilitate R&D activities that focus on the Amazonian Region, exploring a range of issues: environmental protection; socio-economic factors
and sustainable development, emphasis on water treatment and social innovations by local communities (especially vulnerable ones).
Social Innovation and Water Identify existing and potential water
treatment, reuse, recycling and sanitation technologies that are socially accepted technologies that are socially accepted and community owned.
Social Innovation approach should enable the linkage of scientific and traditional local linkage of scientific and traditional local knowledgknowledge, while simultaneously supporting a co-learning process towards sustainable sustainable developmentdevelopment
A joint-thread of research/training activities research/training activities will be set up for researchers from Brazil Brazil (States of Pará & AmazonasStates of Pará & Amazonas) participating to Training and Networking activities Training and Networking activities in EUEU and EU researchers seconded to Brazil Brazil within Case Case Study WorkshopsStudy Workshops
Scientific achievements are reached through inter-connected trainings and field workshops in interaction with social actors, for the acquisition of new approaches to water treatment combined with social technologies, in a multi-disciplinary approach.
Joint exchange programme
Training on socio-economical vulnerability and social innovation– UNIROMA3
Training covers multidisciplinary issues multidisciplinary issues related to vulnerability and linked to water related to vulnerability and linked to water treatment treatment related issues (socio-economic, human development and wellbeing, cultural, environmental factors, governance).
Social innovation addressed in terms of innovative methodologies interacting with environmental related issues, also based on participatory approaches, success initiatives in this domain, analysing re-applicable models.
Training on water treatment technologies for social inclusion- MET Current approaches and technologies to water technologies to water
monitoring, treatment, reuse and recycling and monitoring, treatment, reuse and recycling and sanitation technologiessanitation technologies, applicable for the target study regions and for the benefit of socially socially vulnerable communitievulnerable communities (urban and rural)
Identification and prioritization of key water treatment, reuse, recycling and sanitation services; Individuation of Innovative tools Innovative tools which foresee the active involvement of local communities with the scope of building technological ownership of the technological ownership of the target populationstarget populations
Low cost technologies Low cost technologies for water monitoring, treatment, reuse, recycling and sanitation
Capacity building on innovative technologies and methods to address critical issues faced by the water sector - UAB
Improving competencies and mutual learning on innovation and technology transfer for innovation and technology transfer for critical water issuescritical water issues
