A. \1. KRISHNA RAO

If Manish Motiani represented XL 's Own resident army, then General Krish was his right hand man. A seasoned vete'ran of many a battle, his only failure to date has been the 'Battle of the Bulge'. An astute thinker beneath his balding pate, he believed in playing the field, be it the battle field of the cricket field. One of the vital corners of the RAJ Decagon was his, yet he chose to diversity his interests and last reported, he had gone vARI FAr into the venture. Beneath the tough moon-faced exterior, this General had a heart of gold. His sensitivity was reflected by his gentle crooning of Hindi and Gult songs, with which he regaled the residents of the 4 th floor, everytime he walked out of his room. With huge transnational carmakers entering the country, Maruti needs the services of this · wizened general for the impending battle ahead.

AARTI GARDE

You got to be careful when you're writing about the editor,

Write about Jiji John and it just might upset her. She threatens to giggle and we quiver with fright,

We're even willing to believe that the boss is always right. We took time with these writeups - our fault we were late,

Pure sadistic pleasure, making her wait. Until she couldn't stand it and exploded with worry,

was certainly one of the characters of the batch. Enthusiastic and energetic, he lent a lot of mobility to our batch and guys would sware by his antique two wheeler for years to come. Fin was never his forte, but he \compensated for that with CP in the marketing classes. Though he was all PURVAsive on the baddy court, he was outsmarted by the MAN with a vast experience in a flanking attack in a battle which goes down in the annals of XL as "The Battle of Purushottam Express". We wish he gets over his blues and starts painting the town red very soon.

AMIT BANTHIYA

In the first year, this man did little, except crack business quizzes, sack and Bhassad. After a brief money-making stint from April to June, during the course of which he also completed a summer project, Tappu made up for the limelight of the previous year. An affair with A+s- a relationship marked with ~mutual respect - swung Tappu to the top end of the class putting even Buti to shame. He lent his golden voice to P. K.De rap, a hot number during wet nights. After cracking placements, Tappu decided to dedicate the last few overs of his batting career to the pitches of JLT, where he spent long nights with TA NU woman in his life.

II Yes, but this is what's right.... II were the fundaes that he gave, 'Day-one - he went to Proctor, Ga-ga over him - the girls were 'Dewanis ', They also called him 'Oil ka Doctor', G - Sec vibes he put in efficiently, Of GBMs he had had his share, Controlling, co-ordinating, planning .... II Look here, let us first be fair. II

Sweet, innocent, babyface Cute those eyes we saw, Master of management, and he's always correc,t, Perfection, guys, is never a flaw.

AMIT GARG

This guy with the Kota mentality practised his profession first on his old Glopal flame. The flame couldn't take all the attention and chose to stay as far away as the faculty quarters. In came Awasthi and the world has never been the same again. Fro seeing Garg and Awasthi go hammer and tongs after anybody and everybody was a treat to the senses. On the assets side this guy from the ravines and the deserts has (Garg, Chamba/ ka

August a heart of gold, a tab music (kinna sohna) collection, and is always at hand to help people with (a) emptying their brew- he was a dedicated Old Monk; (b) lending an ear- he has an infinite capacity to handle people's cribs (ask Gaur!); and (c) advice when not needed-ask Motiani .

. Eminently indispensable guy- yeah, that's our Garg.

You'll know he's strange when on a wet nite, Every one is dnacing and he's flying a kite, L~:::~::::'::::::::::::~·'l If you've checked the BM class you'll be sure to see, 60 guys crashing and Chaacha putting CP. When he's not wetting Chhachi 's dress, He's drawing up a strategy to ruin the XLmess. The Bank came and took four in all, But this one is enough to ensure its downfall.

AMITMITTAL

13

AMIT JOHARI

He was a philosopher with a harem of his own. In spite of a broken heart and frequent excursions into desiner reality, he managed to stay near the top of the class. XL 's own Ghalib, he never let go of any opportunity to treat unwary victims to a full battery of his poetry. Our man is all set to continue his search for the elusive "ek lamha aaska" at Uni/iver. We wish him the very best.

HLL

Everything about Mittal seems to give the impression of softness -his soft voice, soft expression and modest, unassuming nature. But don't mistake him for a shy introvert; just watch him put CP in Selection Class (wonder why?) and his animated discourses with Johari and Jaideep. Always enthu about filmi songs and cricket maches, Mittal's electrical skills were a boon during MAXI Fair -sincere to the core, he even started refabricating MAXI Fair props for a supposed inspection by M.L.A. (the Shell group 'shell' fondly remember). Mittal's love for Jampot inspired him to set his career rolling there itself - · we may miss him but Jampot shall not.

AMITSARDAR

This random variable of ours seems to hold an intelligent conversation only if it revolves in some way around QT or a certain dusky lady (equally crazy about numbers). One wonders, if they get together, would they make music or maths? Apart from suffering a mild identity crisis, thanks to· Dhillon in the SAPM class, the chief of JMAXI suffers little else; sailing through life (and in 20 minutes late)

ARUP

This rough and tough no - nonsense man from Tripura was really one big softie. Always ready to lend a hand (an extremely big and short one , he proved to be more than a handful when he almost single -handed/y tugged his team to victory during Hefter Ske/ter. Hugely talented and conversant in nine languages, this genuinely genial man surprised no one when he got placed on Day 1. Bacchus was his old friend and imbibed him with the right spirit. Under his influence, the softer hues of Arup - da 1

BASU Take some Bong dough, add some Bihari seasoning, roast it in the RIT fire, dress it up in bicycle shorts and keds and serve it in XL. Voila ! you have a pint - sized pack of energy called Bappaditya Basu. Bappa would have made an excellent spy. With his widely darting eyes, he, had a knack of being there without being incongruous. You may not have noticed, but he was consistently present for every XL occasion, dancing to his own tune at every wet nite. A busy look and a sense of purpose permanently imprinted on his face, Bappa seems to have some secret personal goal in life. We are sure his street-smart and enthu attitude shall take him there.

(Gujju) 17 June

One look at Binayak 1S beatific smile and

one tends to agree that the grass is really greener on the other side. Amidst the tradition-riddled XL -lifestyle, Binu created his own personal culture and style. Using his wardrobe as a mattress and his room as an ashtray, he lived and dressed as /naturally/ as possible. With term 1 surprising him with a string of A+, including the coveted Pray-putra A+, he spent the next five terms correcting the mistake. The only genuine economist and Dead - head around, Binu chose to keep his intellect in reserve but revealed his soft heart to many. Stop rolling, start truckin I Binu, and your high times shall get higher.

Time: 5:15p.m. "Hey guys, do you know there's an end-term at 6 o'clock? I thought that exams were starting tomorrow!" Binu often forgot that academics played a small, even if insignificant role in XL life. The only learning value that this dashing, dapper Mallu got was in the skills of batting, in which he progressed from novice to master blaster ineone term. Of course, with the kind of expertise in marketing that Binu brought with him, he did not need to "study", even after 2 years, the knowledge of the rest of the class did not come anywhere near his.

This was just the license that he needed, and, as part of the 2-member MAXI- secretary-team

(which ushered in a new era) proceeded to devote all his time to the Association (that is, when

he wasn't sleeping). Binu, wake up, the rest of the world is awaiting your attention.

CHALASANI SRINIVAS RAO

A true gentleman, seemingly shy, close to very few people in XL. He was always ready to help out, whether in study or in play, mostly, the residents of the L. H. To most of us, Chalasa was an enigma, crazy about this MAD Indian Beauty. Badminton was his second passion; one could be sure to see CSR making his way towards the 'COURT' early every morning. A guy with phenomenal stamina - only the VOLLEY CHAMP could match him in his loooong walks at strange hours after

_ sundown - step for step.

See that corner with lots of women ? There's one with a long nose, one with a green jacket, one with a halo, and one with. a scooter. See that cherub i n the centre lapping all the attention? That's De-b-o-o-o-o-o-o !! There's no getting around it -Debao loved all his women (pet-pet-pet). DEBJYOTI PAUL Pauli was a stickler at punctuality, whether it was projects,

or MAXI Fair, and even when it came to "Bed Time". And when his roommate moved to higher

levels in cricket, Pauli had to make do with "toppers". Even though he was introduced to the IR girls vety late, he

nevertheless made an everlasting

21

The best things about having DG as a part of your group were the readymade reports

that came as a part of the package, often even before the course outline

was handed out. In case he didn't, he was always considerate enough to let you do all the work, so that you did not lose out on any learning

opportunity. The beast half of "Buti & the beast", this rotund

MCA from /IT Delhi was a fine batsman. Unlike most Indian and XL

batsman, DG was uncomfortable on home pitches but cracked a century on debut at Ranchi.

KUMAR The only member of 30+ in our batch was also perhaps the youngest at heart. Everything that Deepak did at XL-from class presentations to grax to wet nite dances was done with infectious enthusiasm. Deepak was one of the few who could negociate the bouncers that Reshmi and Pradhan sent down frequently. The Ph.D. from Meerut was elder brother and counce/lor to several in the batch. He divided his time most efficiently between' academic, marital and paternal commitments.

FRANCIS

"Oh ! Almighty Lord! Forgive these sinners These editors - Thy children -for they know not what they write. " These words of fervent prayer originate from the depths of Brother Francis Xavier Reddy, the Archbishop of Xlpuri, even as this prose is being scripted. Francis Reddy or Freddie of the Ever REDdy T-shirt fame was here on a mission. He had undertaken to purge Xlers (especially

Junior women) of all their little sins.

(Freddy) 1 7 September

T awards this end, he always kept a bucket of holy water ready at his window sill. Though not an official

member of DAXI, this soft unassuming padre has cleansed more junior Xlers than anybody else. Not satisfied with his task

at XLR/, Brother Reddy even accompanied the Fathers of XLRI on a special mission, to absolve some poor souls at Ranchi. This "Man on a Mission" leads a very Spartan lifestyle and is a hard worker - surely a prize catch for Price Water House.

G. R. GOPAL

From way down south came this young lad - a fine bloke, innocent to the wiles of the world in general and XL in particular. Here, he came in contact with Faggus,

r;::;:~;;;;::::;:::~'::;;:::'!,J Bacchus and Pranabus and his life was never the same again. Engaged to one and infactuated with another, his feelings for women were never a great RAaz(J). A man with a much wider (read Global) perspective on most things, he propounded the now famous Sensex Theory. A man with a strong ethical leaning,

Price Waterhouse Associates

he has now set forth on his most challenging (Giopal) mission to date - to cleanse HCL Corp of its past 16 December sins and to herald a new ethical future in the infotech industry.

GA JAIN

Undoubtedly the coooo/est one in the senior batch, God is a/so one of the two strongest men in XL. This XL 1/MC first aid chief believes in spreading the message of fitness and health all over the hostel. Chyawanaprash

. and other prophylactics in his room (available 24 hrs.) are testimony. Being a God is no easy task. Two years is helluva Iotta time. Gaurav has done a great job ! Lets hope with his interest in forexes will capture the hearts of one of the opposite sex 1S.

HEMANT SOMANI

When this Batsman descended upon XLRI, he established himself as a player with great talent. Quickly off the mark, he proved himself as a STEADY and

t~::;: ::.;:;::~;:.;~::';;',.;;;;~Jreliable batsman, though he equally

bowled many a maiden over. For leisure he chose to go in for CREATIVE pursuits. He gave women enough opportunities to drool, when he sported his red SUPER SHORTS I Remarkable in his ability to cause alcohol to evaporate while smelling it, he spent the last days in XL seeking out innovative ways to protect his scalp for lack of natural fur.

IRA TUL/ " There was a girl, thin and tall and fair Her hair, her hair, Was the delicate colour of ginger" The lady in question had a fantastic time in XL. Ira wreaked havoc on nerves (hers and others !) in the first semester, having the dubious honour of throwing a wet blanket on DAXI. This Pseud Punja from LSR spent her time at XL. plagued by the HAMLET dilemma -To Be(nu) or Not To Be(nu). Second year turned out to be sheer magic(ob) for her. The first lady of MAXI and. Queen of rapid talk triumphed by landing her dream jo (co)b at S.K.B. -but that is nothing less than she deserves. the BEST friend anyone could have, as she begins to liveE new life, 'ere's to 'er!

IRINA GHOSE

Besides being a stickler for attendence and dedication,

(Ira) March 9

especially at wet nights, Irina had a steady doctrine for group work : " Keep away. so that the other group members can contribute more. "

(Frax, Harpicova) l!"::~;::;wl 29 June

Besides increasing the group's productivity by a large factor, this also gave her ample

time to follow her 'other interests'; even the 'other interests' were busy playing bridge. Her summer stint - a research on toilet cleaners - set off new trends in the study of this 'field'. Her interest in good music was amply displayed - one could hear her Powerhouse blasting all the time. Her rendition of

"Mera Kuch Samaan. .. " gave a totally new meaning to her new-found love religion -which was displayed in her roaming about XL asking "Aapne mere SWAMI ko dekha hai kya?"

JAGORAN MUKHERJEE

If there ever was a guy with the goft of the gab, f was our Jags. While profs squirmed in orgasmic pleasure with his 'Thank You' speeches, others shuddered under his subtle. below-the-belt

sarcastic wit. As the captain of the CR 'dream team (??)',he postponed more deadlines than hairs on his head. Jags held

the dual responsibility of the 'Florence Nightingale of the MH' and the personal confodante and

counce/lor for the LH. As the Jags Fan Club expanded, bridging male - female, senior- junior and student -

staff barrior, and his personal information network spread out further, our man shied away under his historical novels, A.C.K's (Amar Chitra Kathas, dumbo !) and his 'pyare chhotu '. But JFC lives on as strong as ever.

JAIDEEP IYENGAR This tall, lanky Hyderabadi surprised everyone by his ability to drink beer neat. Quick on the uptake, he never left an opportunity to show people who's the boss. He was rather popular with the junior girls, all floored by his boyish charm. But, being human, he also had his weaknesses, his passion for red, for example. His innocence, coupled with a very no-nonsense attitude make a deadly combination. This guy, who mastered Pray, is sure to prove an asset to God Soaps.

28

JERYN JACOB This man was like a bear in more than looks ... his big heart earned him the sobriquet of Teddy from more than one of the denizens of the L. H. There were SO MAny things that grabbed his attention but he restricted himself to showing his musical, theatrical and political skills to three batches of Xlers. We can expect him to continue being caught in a Whirlpool of turbulence but let's hope life's washing machine will not keep him wet behind the ears.

JOHN BAXLA

His roommate in Term 1 became nervous when John was missing for two days. Jahn had

informed that he was just going for a swim - little did anyone know that the

pool happened to be in Ranchi. A versatile sportsman,

he represented XL in hockey and basketball but remained his true modest self. John is a devout Christian who refuses to drink water during Lent, suplementing his fluid needs with other liquids. Johnny, be good and you shall get the best out of life.

A lanky dark guy jogging effortlessly from XL to the Dimna Lake and back was a familiar sight for the last two years. This guy amazed

everyone with his stamina - one wonders where he got all that energy from ! Of course, one knows that he caught up on his R & R in every class, dozing away like nobody's business. Guys who knew him never failed to be impressed by his vast reading material, which took up more space than all his other possessions put together. All the best, Lakra, We hope your feet run you to all destinations you wish to reach.

The II Sharafat ka Maha/ 11 of 95 went through a metamorphosis during his stay at XL. Though no one could accuse of becoming a PURVArt, occaSONALEE, he would chase Sum 'an with intentious only God knows. When his passionate renditions of 11Shaadi kara do meri 11

failed to expedite matters at the home front, he concentrated on a career with consultancies, but ended up somewhere else. Hope he can LEVERage his talents and make a mark there.

court with junior women (This failed - the girls now call him Sarthak - da ). No.2 strategy was playing Footer for XL-IlM (C) (However XL lost the match). Strategy

No.3 was to direct the play (he had to withdraw when none of the junior women made it to the cast). Strategy No.4 was publicly appealing to Raychauduris in XLRI (This was a desperate attempt - needless to say it fell through). However, the irrepressible bong with a never

Add one part Bengali mishti to one part Gujju dhokla, season it in Salem and Mumbai and place it in a Jampot. What you would end up cooking is very possibly Suji ka halwa ! Sujata had pots of talent and was very much Culturally inclined. Actress, Be-Bopper and (Bathroom) singer par excellence, she was sure to lighten spirits with her enthusiasm. In fact, Suzy's sunny smile and twinkling eyes are just what the Doctor recommends (for himself, that is !) She sure knew how to extract the most out of living, and we are sure that wherever she is, she is sure to paint the town Red ... or is it Green, your eXcel LeN Cy ?

Inmates of the L. H. beware, Sunil is on the prowl. This tall and handsome man was impressed by many a girl, but unfortunately, the feeling was not reciprocated. Though his singing talents made the Cultural Secretary quite popular, it was not enough. As a result he continued to be the President of Lonely Hearts for the second year in succession. His self-confidence received a boost when this man of steel sailed through to Smith Kline Beecham, where he can put to use his strong IR fundas. SURAJ RAMPRASAD Sunny days are here again. This not-so-little master displayed flawless technique in batting during his two years stay. Initially showing a tendency of being distracted by FANS, he settled to face a reliable attack. Nowadays he is never upset as long as there is a RAJ of light for him to see. Best known for his truly GLOBAL thought process, Suraj never failed to display his lateral thinking when it was least expected. From this hell hole with no taste at all in its food, Suraj goes to join an organisation which is guaranteed to offer him flavour after flavour.

T. R. KUMAR This man from Madras was always in great demand during plays, picnics, dinners, .... for his shutter wielding skills. Ashwin's brave attempts at Hindi were a constant source of entertainment. For him, an umbrella was a chaku, and he didn't know better than to ask a girl what a katcha was. His size 12 foot was constantly in his mouth, as when he asked a Jesuit priest how his son was, and in a presentation, insisted that he had only one father and one mother. His "monkey on a Pogo stick " performance for Jesu will be long remembered. Ash win carried the XL colours in basky and volleyball, and held the envied position of coach to the women's softball team. The lonesome cowpoke from Gu/tland really came into his own in the second year. He would terrorise Sanjay. with Edgar Allan Poe stories late at night, and then be off to MadSam 's for breakfast ! His eclectic taste in reading (from Louis L 'Amour to Sarte and Marx) set him apart from the batch. His left of centre leanings were clear, and many of his presentations were marked for the passion he put into them. Apart from reading, his major love is food. Subbu has also become the official consultant for XL 's latest craze - Civilization. Asian Paints will be happy with this colourful character.

This Kaizen coordinator from Eicher came to XL for value addition and ended up among a bunch of kids. He made a brave and subtle attempt to develop immature XL minds and on failing, sought to adopt SRiritual means. His perfectionism ranged from his T.P.s to his preference for the perfect feminine P. His resemblance to a round puppy adopted by Oadu 's was so remarkable, that the poor unsuspecting creature was promptly christened Tommy! Beneath all that flab, Tom my Stout had a very, very funny bone and no one appreciated his humour better than he did. Always aware that glasses did nothing to enhance his delicate bone structure, he'd make sure that no photograph would catch him unaware and bespectacled. The ample 1body 1 of Bajrangi 1the lady killer/ Bhatia alias Satrangi 1 the TA TA pillar/ Bhatia could be found at differentt corners of the campus at different times, though his soul remained at the TMDC building. Punjabi by birth but Bong at 1heart 1 this manls loyalty to the TAT As was DEEPly appreciated by significant oyhers. In the last term, he gave up his trademark black diary, and spent more time at the TMDC building than at the hostel. In the Battle of the Bulge, this man believed in status quo. : The metaphysical centre of every Xlers Xistence our very own version of Zen. An all pervading philosophy that can be filled in just like that to any context, any conversation,. any language, any time, anywhere. Immortalized in the name of Jampot's most popular watering hole and scandalized in that of its most unpopular flea-rag, JL T has had its highs and lows. But JL T remains JL T. and so does life, in XL.

: Unnatural corollary to the nature of all other activities here. Comprises a group of humans more human than the rest, dedicated to the cause of the flora and fauna. Often gets accused of partiality towards the flora, especially the more exotic varieties.

: The cynosure of all energy, effort and enthu of the two years, presided over by the most praised and the most abused committee of XLRI. The entire event is shorter than the average end-terms, but its expectancy longer than the course itself; there is more chaos than at XL-1/MC, and yet more seriousness than at the convocation; it is more tiring than the MAXI Me/a and yet more fun than a DAXI spree; you see more smiles than at a wet night, but also more tears than at farewell night. But above all, it is without doubt the most important event on this campus, such that even after those four days finally finish, the process never really ends.

-u-m"''"'' : The unofficial weathergods of XL who decide how much of precipitation falls on the hills, ravines, valleys and plains on campus, as well as the most helpful and selfless committee. It never seeks publicity for anything it does. Everyone is given regular baths, and their clothes are washed free of cost. On behalf of XLNC, it waters all the pavements, chasing away the 'dirt' that settles on them. It lends assistance to the Sports Comm. by improving the general athletic skills of all the students. In fact, mere word of its presence is enough to make everyone burst into sprints, leaps and general aerobics. Why, it even provides the 'cricketing pairs' of XL the ultimate romantic experience of them all : a joint shower.

One of the final rites of initiation performed on the new entrants into this (un)hdly (dis)order, performed with a lot of loving care and garnished with a brand of sadistic "artistry brewed especially for the occasion.

All in all, a very remarkable ceremony. The atmosphere was high on hush and hype. Candles and deeyas lit up the night, marigold flowers glowed like burnished gold, and music flowed like newly made honey. And when the welcoming rituals were enacted one by one, the young ones could only watch in breathless awe, venturing an occasional smile, and sitting back only to break out into regular and tumultuous applause. As the hours went by, the magic was drawn tighter and tighter. The climax came on the crest of a final act orchestrated within the portals of the ancient ritual hall. Even if the mood was frenzied and the act bloody, well, it was all subtle and gracious, and nobody would have complained even if they'd had to eat their own insides in the process! Anyway, this was one party where the guests didn't leave hungering for more, even as the hosts smacked their lips ...

74

With a choice of vodka, rum and CD From my slog, I get a respite.

Loud And clear /like to hear All my favourite numbers How does it matter, when once in a while Some people have to forgo their slumber ?

The wet nite brings loads of entertainment Watching pairs and group dynamics While some like Steven prefer the speakers Rahul and Gaur go on with their antics

Dancing with the guys and singing along I move my body and wriggle my belly But when it comes to asking a girl Without a swig, my legs turn to jelly

Oh! how the girls Jove to imitate Kohli Occasionally interrupting with a "Bus Stop" or train And when the dance floor seems to be empty MACARENA is never played in vain.

With loads of requests for all kinds of songs Nothing sells like this man's name Coolie No.1, Hero No. 1, to name a few If we're exhausted, only Govinda 's to blame.

HOTEL CALIFORNIA has had its share of popularity Especially from the Senior Bummers But AFREEN walks away with the prize As the hottest track after Summers.

Giri and Siva did a commendable job They even added a dash of spice With a microphone attached to the system Some enthusiasts could lend their own voice.

Soon it's dawn and the crowd is thin My feet are killing me; Oh Damn! But XL is about traditions, you know So the next stop is Mad Sam!!!

Ash, Badri and Sriram seem like demons Making the girls slog when the cosy bed beckons Footer, cricket, hockey, fris, at once on the ground With basky, baddy and volley too, there's tension all around

Of course, the frenzy takes its toll Hardly good for the body, forget the soul! Falls, sprained ankles, broken fingers, aching backs Once again, at volley, Yshe has to frax.

"It's Sporting Warfair, ", "Won't let Cal vin" Such festivities we display when THEY walk in Soon morning dawns, bright and clear No fear of rain, unlike last year.

The shouting is fun and the cheering is clean 'Coz if it weren't so, Pop-C would intervene Persis states, "Ladkiyan sab jeetenge" And Arifa begins by blazing the relay.

The ups and downs are there, as usual More ups than downs, it appears, for XL The opponents are definitely not without a fight SKD and Bhand show us Joka 's might.

Girls' volley and throw are a sight to see Yeah! We're proud of Suman and Madhavi Baddy too comes out a winner And Swami devours them all at lunch and dinner.

Finally history is made at basketball Where the scores this year are reverse-all And amidst cheers, when Suga takes the victor's place, There's a proud smile on every Xler's face!!!

78

B.B.C. :Basketball Court A nugget hidden away amongst the campus facilities, one that is handsome in looks and sentimental in appeal. So handsome that is has hosted numerous sports ranging from basketball to rink hockey to night cricket. So sentimental that it has hosted events- annually (or daily) - like bonfires from the Ram Lee/a kind to the ... well, cardiac kind.

The long and leafy, straight and silent path that divides work and play on campus. It is· on the cover of evety admissions brochure, in the path of evety sports-person, in the sight of every 'roving-eye', but most importantly and most frequently, in the sweetest memories of evety XL twosome.

To some, the most important detour on the Boulevard, but to others, it is the final destination itself. Steps leading to the door never used, welllit and well-maintained for no apparent reason, these four layers of concrete have seen the 'trailer' of every consummation ever to take place in XL and beyond.

! "/just can't stop loving you." On your green (and brown) stretch of grass, I celebrate the birthday of all my friends with enthu and egg, cake and cacophony; /laze post-lunch in the lukewarm winter sun; I hold the exhausted climax of evety Bhassad session; and, of course, I always start the first step of every courtship on your steps and under your blessings.

Tata Easily one of the classiest buildings in and around campus. The excellently designed interior has always been the first to view some of the biggest XI events ranging from the cultural night to the annual play. However, the fallible exterior has always been the last to know of, but again the first to witness some of the smaller and more intimate events staged by Xlers.

Mody Centre Excellence One of the most stunning complexes in the region. Besides the usual series of exhibitions and seminars, the raison d'etre of this mysterious plot of land is unknown probably to Russi Mody himself. Which is why, Xlers have taken the liberty to give it the honour of being the HQ of "spread love all around" campaign.

79

Class Participation : Great way to tremendously impress your prof (or really irritate him), to win the undiluted admiration of your classmates (or win their undiluted fury), to expand your thinking ability and knowledge (or thoroughly confuse what's left of it)' and get marks for all that.

-Jt:.~T..,,i"o Class :Applies to those overgrown boy-scouts and girl guides who are still faithfully practising 'be prepared' by buttonholing those hapless members of the teaching tribe with conversation of the churned-milk-product kind, well before the actual class can even start.

Desperate : An odd neuro-physiological disorder where the student thinks he has become invisible, so he frantically waves his hands, and utters repeated/obvious/mindless statements. Curiously, its symptoms are most visible at around 10:15 or 12:15, or 7:15, etc. Wonder why?

Global Class Participation : The most awesome of CPs; the moment is leaves the human mouth, it rises way above the human head, and spreads itself all over the class because of its uniquely chosen grandiloquent words and enlightening concepts. Of course, its real speciality is that it makes no sense whatsoever, and at times, doesn't even sound English.

Arbit Class Participation : A rapturous display of sheer spontaneity and off-the-cuff brilliance. These modem-day Archimedes' are known to have stunned even the most seasoned professors into silence by voicing one of their sudden surges of inspiration. Of course, it is another matter that this flash is never related at all to the subject at hand.

Changing Colours

For two whole years they lived and worked And loved and laughed the same way. Used the same words,. walked the same roads Wore the same feathers, wore the same colours ...

But then suddenly came a festival A festival, our very own, of colours Colours, not of flowers, not of rainbows But of those million million faces We had stashed away among our secrets For two long, long years.

Out came the pirate, out came the monster Cave men, smugglers, toughs, babes and half-done Yankees Popped out and spilled out of every nook and corner Pretty, eccentric damsels danced to the tune of jokers And with no end to variety There were tribal dancers and emancipated soldiers.

One minute it was Tarzan swinging Out of one tree, into another The next it was Madonna to the ancient tunes of Material Girl From the act of halwa-making to that of LH streaking
