VICE CHANCELLOR’S MESSAGE
We are still fighting an unprecedented crisis, Covid 19! It is one of the toughest times mankind has ever faced
in modern times! It’s the most challenging time that has already impacted our life and brought a different
discourse of education and career! However, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel! Covid is also
making us all stronger day by day! It has forced us to go online in almost spheres! But the fact of the matter
lies in our continuous journey to enable our students to face newer challenges! I am confident, they wouldn’t
disappoint you this time too! You will find our young energetic graduates who are sustainable enough to face
and handle every situation to add value to themselves and the organizations they would work for!
I am sure that it is not the first campus visit for many of you. Possibly, some of your recruiting officials
have also been our former students. I am thankful to you for appreciating the qualities of our graduates and
renewing the valued relationship we share with you. For those of you who are new to our campus, I intend
to say a few words introducing you to our philosophy and its execution.
The goal of our coveted master’s programmes is to create professionals for a sustainable future.
As you know, meeting the challenge of climate change while addressing poverty and deprivation in
various dimensions is the biggest and most complex challenge facing mankind. Creating a sizeable
workforce of professionals who can deal with such large and complex challenges that invite both scientific and
policy-based interventions requires specialized training that we aim to provide.
The first two semesters of core coursework provides the base of this training, followed by exposure
to a variety of optional courses across programmes in the third. The next semester is usually spent on
working on a major project with a corporate/government organization. Some of the students also work on
dissertations under close supervision by a faculty member. Thus the students are introduced to major theories
and applications in their chosen field of specialization, exposed to major intellectual challenges of our
times, and provide effective solutions to real-life situations. You will find more specific information about the
programme you are interested in this brochure.
Our award-winning curriculum development, a young and enthusiastic faculty comparable to that in some of
India’s top universities in terms of background, research and teaching, and our relentless engagement with the
external world makes our graduates very well sought in diverse fields. Our alumni hold coveted positions at
corporates, think tanks, government, research institutes, NGOs and international organizations. Many of our
graduates have gone for higher studies in top national and international universities, and several have
stayed with us for their Ph.Ds.

FIELD TRIPS
JaipurA 4 day trip to Jaipur, Rajasthan was executed for the maximum knowledge extraction from the city. The students observed practical process of waste treatment by visiting Sitapura waste treatment plant, Jaipur, along with a visit to Jaipur water supply pumping station. The safari at Sariska national park in Alwar, Rajasthan brought the students closer to the wildlife in the forest. Tiloniya, a small village in the city, had something else to tell the world. A unique college named Barefoot invited adults, especially women, to gain education in the most practical form. The students accessed and learned about various technologies by hand like sustainable sanitary napkin vending machines, use of cloth making tools and handicrafts items from scratch. Barefoot college was one place from where the students left with a gush of inspiration.
DehradunDehradun is the Capital city of the state Uttarakhand. It is situated near the Himalayan foothills. The students visited this city as a part of our mid semester trip. It was a great educational as well as fun experience. In the beginning of the trip, the students visited the Mindrolling Monastery, which is a Tibetan Buddhist centre. The students also visited educational institutions like Forest Research Institute (FRI) and the Wildlife Institute of India. The students interacted with the teachers there and learned many new things. The students also visited the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology and visited the museum there. The students also had an interactive session with the research students there.
OrchhaA visit to Orchha- a small town in Madhya Pradesh offered a lifetime of experience to the students. Visiting Taragram project site in Orchha and being a witness to the production of a range of innovative, affordable building products for house construction, using TARA eco-technologies, which utilise local crushed-stone waste was certainly an amazing learning experience for the students. TARA handmade paper recycling unit is an enterprise based on “waste to wealth” technology employing more than 40 women, including Sahraiya tribal women, who earlier had no source of income. TARA paper and products are marketed locally, nationally and globally. The visit to Barua Sagar lake, picturesquely located at a height, commands an excellent view of the lake and surrounding landscape. Interacting with the people of Rampura Solar village gave the students detailed knowledge about their solar power plant and how the village raised from having zero electricity earlier, to using renewable and clean energy for electricity generation making Rampura self-reliant in power supply now. It was followed by a visit to Jamunia Khas village giving employment to a lot of women of the village through their biogas treatment plant and lastly, attending the cultural programme organised by the Sainik Gaurav Seva School, interacting with the school children and watching them perform with so much zeal was truly mesmerizing.
AlwarThe Alwar trip consisted of visits to Sariska National Park, Tarun Bharat Sangh, Keoladeo National Park, and forts such as Lohagarh fort. The National Parks gave an adventurous trip into the wildlife of Western India, birds and animals of various species. A deeper knowledge was obtained about different bird identification techniques. Tarun Bharat Sangh, a very noble NGO, was very intriguing from the aspect of successful Water conservation and Adaptation strategy in today’s changing climate. The forts were a fun way to dive into the past of the City projecting light on the water channel systems of the historic times.

GoaThe students visited Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary and explored artificial mangrove habitat. On the same day the students visited Divar island nearby to observe fishing. The students conducted a questionnaire with the fishermen community to assess their vulnerability w.r.t. to climate change at the Divar island. The next day, a similar study was also conducted with the Coco beach vendors. The students then visited TERI Goa facility and knew more about educational and other activities including the study of aquaculture, hydroponics, and salt farming. The visit to the solid waste management plant in Saligao, depicting the centralized system handled by Goa Waste Management Corporation, and then the visit to various decentralized waste segregation plants/centers in Panji gave the students an insight into the process in the two systems. The interaction with Mr. Sanjit Rodrigues, Commissioner, CCP regarding sustainable waste management in Goa further enlightened students’ perspective.
MukteshwarA four day trip to Mukteshwar was an alluring experience, set in the foothills of the Himalayas, the students got to interact with local Kumaoni communities how they carry out their daily life at such high altitudes. A local resource person enlightened the students with his experience of living in that area for such a long period of time and spoke about the kind of change he has witnessed since he was a child. TERI research institution has set up water harvesting schemes to help these communities along with many other initiatives. A community radio is set up to help farmers address issues in high altitude farming. The students were educated about organic farming and the various plants grown there for medicinal and other purposes. The students also visited a local school to interact with young children and educate them a bit about the changing climate and adaptation strategies. Later the students moved to The Jim Corbett National Park and engaged in an informative session about the National Park. Overall, it was a very fascinating trip.
