secular, over 35,000 member clubs are affiliated with RI world over with

a membership of 1.2 million individuals, known as Rotarians. It’s considered as one of

the most valued and trusted organisation in the world.

The Rotarians aspire to create a world where people take action unitedly to create

lasting changes across the globe and within communities. Rotary Means Business

Fellowship wing of RI aims to contribute to the humanitarian undertakings by

conducting business amongst the Rotarians. The Rotarian businessmen are some of the

most respectable and eminent entrepreneurs on Earth.

This e-magazine showcases the achievements of some of the Rotarians in business

who have accomplished momentous and meaningful work in their respective business

spheres and have gained trust over the years with their dedicated efforts aimed at

betterment of the society and their customers.

Recognising the Rotarians in business this year is special because the nominations

have been across India. This is the third edition of the RMB Connect event and in this

post Covid time, it is being conducted virtually. However, there is a long way to go. The

Rotarians have contributed so much during this harsh time; I am confident that the

quantum they will be achieving in the coming years will be remarkable too.

The world’s first service club wasfounded on February 23, 1905 when amiddle aged lawyer in Chicago invited

three of his friends for a meeting toenhance their friendship and fellowship, aswell as grow their business interests. Soonthey started meeting weekly and namedthe club Rotary. Now after 115 years,Rotary has evolved into one of the largestservice organisations in the world with themotto ‘Service Above Self’.

RELENTLESS SERVICEThe core values of the organisation areleadership, integrity, fellowship, diversityand service, within chosen areas of focussuch as health care and disease preven-tion, literacy and education, water and san-itation, enhancing livelihoods, and the like.Spread over 200 countries and geographi-cal areas with 1.3 million members, Rotarybrings together a global network of volun-teer leaders who dedicate their time andtalent to tackle the world’s most pressinghumanitarian challenges.

Thanks to Rotarians’ passionate driveagainst polio, more than 5 million childrenhave been saved from getting crippled ordying. Spending billions of dollars and several-fold number volunteer hours,Rotarians have brought down polio casesto less than 150 this year, with polio havingits footprint left only in two countries —Pakistan and Afghanistan.

A CENTURY OF SUCCESSRotary in India has completed 100 yearsthis year with a membership of 1,60,000. Inmembership growth, donations and com-munity service projects, Rotary has alwaystaken pride in its core values, the central

one being integrity, which has become thecornerstone of business practices forRotarians when dealing with each otherand non-Rotarians. ‘Rotary meansBusiness’ is the concept where Rotariansare encouraged to support the success oftheir fellow Rotarians by doing businesswith them and by referring others to them.

CONTRIBUTING TO A CAUSERotarians run more than 100 schools andan equal number of hospitals and clinics.Tens of thousands of rural toilets havebeen built by Rotary, contributing toSwachh Bharat. Each year, Rotary clubsacross India do heart surgeries for thou-sands of little children. Their education program covers the length and breadth ofthe country.

Even during the corona pandemic,Rotary contributed ` 105 crore to the PMCARE FUND and did welfare projects worth over ` 90 crore, making it a total of ` 200 crore.

Even as Rotarians are business and pro-fessional leaders they are service-orientedpeople. They make the lame walk, the blindsee, and heal the sick. “Mankind is theirbusiness and their product is service”.

Is it the Truth? Is it Fair to all concerned? Will it build Goodwill and better

Friendship? Will it be Beneficial to all

concerned?

“Every Life Matters” – this has been thebasis of the foundation for the BusteeWelfare Centre (BWC). Late Smt Sheila

“BWC has since moved on and today wehave two schools operating at Lovelock Streetand Monohar Pukur, with 500 students studying from Nursery to Class VII. After class

VII the students take admission to higher secondary schools where all expenses likebooks, uniforms, and tuition fees are borne bythe organisation,” says Dr Joshita DavarKhemani, vice-president, BWC.

MR PRASHANTAJMERA, A PIONEER INGLOBALINVESTMENTADVISORY URGESINDIAN PARENTSTO PLAN EARLYFOR THEIR CHILDREN’S FOREIGN EDUCATION BYINVESTING GLOBALLY

MR PRASHANT AJMERAFOUNDER & LAWYERAJMERA LAW GROUP

Mr Prashant Ajmera, founder of Ajmera LawGroup, is an unconventional third generationlawyer who left a promising practice in theHigh Court of Gujarat to backpack acrossEurope and ended up receiving a doubledegree as a Company Secretary from the UK.Eventually, he settled in Canada and becamea Canadian citizen. During his stint as anAssociate Lawyer – Asia Pacific Region for ahighly reputed law firm in Montreal, MrPrashant had the opportunity to network andestablish alliances with some highly regardedprofessionals in the legal, real estate, financialand investment industry globally.

Twenty years later, destiny brought himback to India, where an entirely new world ofpossibilities awaited him. His out-of-the boxthinking and intense passion for his profes-sion propelled him towards establishing aglobal investment advisory practice in India.

FOREIGN INVESTMENT IS NECESSARYPutting his excellent research and analyticalskills to use, he discovered that Indian HNIswere remitting US$19 billion outside of India,of which US$ 10 billion was for their chil-dren’s foreign education and settlementabroad. However, these same individualswere investing a very small amount outsideof India. This figure further indicates that overthe years, the spending habits of Indians havechanged dramatically but their investinghabits continue to remain the same; i.e.spending outside of India but investing only in India.

Due to the currency fluctuations, this trendcan eventually result in financial distress forIndians and India as a country. Mr Prashantrealised that when Indians invest in India but

spend a substantial amount of their moneyabroad, they are not getting the full value fortheir domestic investment, eventuallydecreasing their net worth and spendingpower. He recognised the need to find bettersolutions for India’s HNIs. Taking a 360 degreeview, Mr Prashant now advises Indian HNIparents to invest in four different asset class-es - Global financial markets and products, international real estate, business start-upsand a second passport. He also believes thatthis all-encompassing advisory will certainlystrengthen the financial power of Indian HNIs,at the same time eliminating the currencyand political risk by diversifying the portfolio.

SHARING KNOWLEDGEMr Prashant believes in sharing his knowl-edge and experience and to this end he has published two books, which are available onamazon.in Millionaires On The Move How to plan for your child’s foreign education in 2020ne? Myth v/s Reality

DEDICATED & TRUE ROTARIANPrashant is a very active member of RotaryInternational. He was President of RCAhmedabad Metro in 2016-17 and has heldseveral positions in District 3054. He activelysupports various social causes within andoutside of Rotary. He is also the foundingchairman of Rotary Means Business (RMB)Ahmedabad chapter.

Currently, he is spear-heading the forma-tion of a global forum for Indian financial pro-fessionals and investors where they cancome together on one platform for network-ing and knowledge sharing.
