INAUGURAL PROGRAMME

Hosts – Ms. Janailin Warjri and Mr Mainul Haque

Ms Janailin introduced the programme by mentioning that the world has entered into an era of

globalization, whereby a huge competition has emerged with regard to implementing new and

effective ways of teaching and learning. Moreover, the present pandemic has compelled teachers and

educators to upgrade their teaching methods with the help of technology. Today, when it is not

possible to have teacher-student interaction in the physical classroom of institutions it has become

mandatory to make use of Online Classes and Google Classroom being one such medium to go

ahead with the process of education. With the ongoing demand and competition in the field of

education, it is important that educators too, upgrade their methods of teaching and make themselves

tech- savvy.

The welcome speech was given by Dr M.Y. Tham, Associate Professor, English Department, who is

the Co-Ordinator of IQAC, Lady Keane College and the Co-Ordinator of this two-day workshop.

TECHNICAL SESSION DAY 1

Sir Barad gave a brief explanation on each topic and demonstrated practical where ever

required.

Topicscovered

1. Flipped Learning-Flipped classroom is an instructional strategy and a type of

blended learning that reverses the traditional educational arrangement by delivering

instructional content, often online, outside of the classroom. It moves activities, including

those that may have traditionally been considered homework, into the classroom. Lessons

that are prepared by teachers are given beforehand; exercises are done during class hours for

effective learning.

2. Blended Learning- A style of education in which students learn via electronic and online

media as well as traditional face-to-face teaching.

3. ERT and Online Teaching-In contrast to experiences that are planned from the beginning

and designed to be online, emergency remote teaching (ERT) is a temporary shift of

instructional delivery to an alternate delivery mode due to crisis circumstances. ERT is being

used especially during this pandemic.

4. Glass board / Lightboard / Learning Glass- Educate, Connect, and Collaborate clearly

with Learning Glass, the original LED lightboard for teachers and presenters. Droid cameras

can be used as virtual camera.

5. Creating Google Group for Safe and Secure communication with students (better in

security than WhatsApp)- Google Groups is a service from Google that provides

discussion groups for people sharing common interests. These are communication channels

used for students.

6. How to add members to the Google Group (Gmail Email id is necessary)- Exercises were

given

7. Creating Google Classroom- Demonstration and exercises given.

VALECTORY SESSION

Speech - Madam Principal, Dr Mrs C. Massar

Madam Principal thanked the resource person for his diligent training of two days. She

mentioned that the workshop was the need of the hour to empower teachers with online

teaching. This workshop gave a foundation of understanding to what a Learning Management

System is. She thanked the Computer Science for taking the first step to train the teachers of

the college on Google Classroom.

Vote of thanks- Ms. Lizia Sahkhar, HOD, Department of Computer Science

At the offset, the two-day workshop had concluded on a positive message.

Google Classroom has a lot of tools with very good features that can be implemented in our

online classes. It has a systematic way of formulating our classes and materials for the

easement of our students. Google meet and google groups help us in communicating with our

students in a more methodical and secure manner. The greatest advantage is that we can use

all these tools on all kinds of devices. Access and storage of information is another advantage

that is storedon the cloud. Google gives all these features and services for free, which is of

the greatest benefit to students. This workshop has been very enlightening and has helped us

in preparing our upcoming classes. It is imperative for teachers to practice in order to retain

the knowledge acquired in the workshop. Keeping in mind that we have participants of

different calibre, we can have another phase of the workshop to enhance our knowledge. She

mentioned that we are on the process of acquiring the G-Suite package for a centralized

system. This workshop has equipped teachers with the basic knowledge and features of

Google Classroom to implement in a virtual classroom.

Madam Lizia thanked and appreciated the resource person on behalf of the College fraternity.

She also extended her gratitude to the Principal for her relentless support. She thanked the

participants for their active participation which contributed to the success of the workshop.

Lastly, she thanked the teachers of the Department for their hard work towards the workshop.
