HOLY CROSS COLLEGE MEDICAL CAMP
For the benefit of all students in the Holy Cross College, the college organized medical camp on
16.6.18. ENT Doctors , Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology and DMLT
collaboratively screened the college students for vision, hearing and speech -language disorders.
Counseling was given to all students regarding protecting vision, hearing and vocal
hygiene. Further detailed evaluation and recommendation were given to all students who are
concerned.
1500 students from various departments benefited from Medical camp.
HEARING SCREENING CAMP FOR TRIBALS
Holy Cross College, Trichy organized a Hearing screening camp for Tribals on 20.06.18 to
21.06.18 at Attapaadi, Kerala. On Behalf of Department of Audiology and Speech Language
Pathology, the staff E. Pushpa Sarona and 19 students screened tribal people for Hearing
Disorders.
Counseling was given to all regarding hearing care and need of routine audiological
evaluation. Further detailed evaluation and recommendation were given to patient who is
concerned.
140 tribal people from various villages benefited from the camp.
Rescapes Screening Camp
Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Trichy. Organized a free Audiological & Speech and
Language screening camp on 02.07.18 & 04.07.18 in Thirupanjeeli Govt. Hr. Sec. School at
Thirupanjeeli village near Trichy. On Behalf of Department of Audiology and Speech Language
Pathology, Clinical Supervisors E. Pushpa Sarona, C. Regina Mary & R. Sujitha and 35 students
were involved in the camp.
About 628 students from classes VI to XII Std were screened. Counseling was given to all
regarding hearing care and importance of speech & language therapy. Further detailed evaluation
and recommendation were given to students who are concerned.
Sharva Shiksha Abiyam Screening Camp
SSA organized massive Screening Camp in Rural areas of Tanjore districts in the name of
“Education for all” from 06.8.18 to 28.8.18. On behalf of Department of Audiology and Speech
Language Pathology, the Interns from the department were participated and the people were
screened for hearing disorders. The Screening camps were organized in the following places and
attended by following students.
Counselling was given to all regarding hearing care and need of routine Audiological
evaluation further detailed evaluation and Recommendation were given to patient who is
concerned.

HEARING SCREENING CAMP FOR OLDER ADULT
Holy Cross College, Trichy organized a Hearing screening camp for Older adult on 11.09.2018
at Annai old age home, Trichy. On Behalf of Department of Audiology and Speech Language
Pathology, staff C. Regina Mary 12 students screened older adults for Hearing Disorders.
Counseling was given to all regarding hearing care and need of routine audiological
evaluation. Further detailed evaluation and recommendation were given to patient who is
concerned.
21 older adults from Annai old age home benefited from the camp.
Seminar on Assessment & Management of dysphagia
Seminar on assessment and management of dysphagia was organized by the Department of
Audiology and Speech Language Pathology for two days from 10.09 2018 to 11.09.2018. The
guest speaker invited for the seminar was Ms.Arya M.Sc swallowing, Amritha Institute of
Medical Sciences, Kochi, Kerala. The seminar was initiated by a warm prayer by our department
students followed by the welcome address delivered by Mr. R. Sundaresan, HOD.
The guest speaker gave a detailed presentation on subjective, objective assessment of
dysphagia on day 1. On day 2 presentations covered the topics like management strategies for
dysphagia. The speaker demonstrated maneuvers to facilitate swallowing. At last the seminar
was concluded by vote of thanks proposed by Assistant Professor Ms.K.Bhuvaneswari.
Inauguration of Student Platform for Advancing Research and Career Association
The Students platform for Advancing Research and Career Association inauguration was held on
17st September, 2018 and it was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr.Ganathilakan Professor, Director
of Tilak Hospital.
Chief Guest gave an interesting and thought provoking speech on importance and role of
Audiologist and Speech Language Pathologist in the betterment of individuals with
communication disorders.
The office bearers for the academic year were honored by the slash, Secretary
Ms.Gayathri,BASLP III year, Joint Secretary Ms. Aarthi Devi, BASLP II year, Treasurer Ms.
Jumana BASLP III year. Mr. R. Sundaresan HOD spoke about the scope and ethics of
Audiologist & Speech-Language Pathologist
National Conference on Assessment and Management of voice Disorders: Clinical Theory
and Practice” (HCC FlaSH Series – 3)
Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology arranged a three days national
conference on “Assessment and Management of voice Disorders: Clinical Theory and Practice”
from 21th to 23th September 2018. The Chief Guest was Dr.Jesudoss, Dean, SRM Medical
College, Tiruchirappalli. On the first day of conference 21/09/2018 topics focused on an Active
retrieve on anatomy and physiology of laryngeal system and Subjective assessment was by Ms.
Jasmine Lydia, MERF Institute of Speech and Hearing. Instrumental analysis of voice was
discussed by Dr.Gopi Sankar, Mysore. Parallel scientific paper sessions were held. Students
presented oral presentations.
On the second day 22/09/2018 three eminent speakers, Dr. Radish Kumar.B HOD, KMC,
Mangalore enlighten on Symptomatic Voice therapy, Dr.Prakash Bomminathan discussed on
holistic voice therapy and Dr.Jayakumar Menon elaborated on manual therapy.
On the Third day 23/09/2018 distinguished guest speakers Dr.Rajasudhakar HOD, AIISH
Mysore and Ms.Malavika , Assistant Professor KMC, Chennai gave a detailed talk on ICF,
psychogenic voice therapy ,SOVTE and hands on session was held.
The conference came to an end with valedictory function. The Chief Guest was Dr.
Dr.Rajasudhakar HOD, AIISH Mysore (Totally 19 students from various colleges (MMC,
MERF AVMC, NISH, MV Shetty) and 30 professional delegates attended the conference.
Seminar on “Overview of vestibular system”
Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology arranged a one day Seminar on
“Overview of vestibular system” on 25th September 2018. Dr.Srinivasan was guest speaker. The
speaker gave an elaborate presentation on Introduction, structure and function, vestibule ocular
reflex, vestibule spinal reflex and signs and symptoms of vestibular disorders. This workshop
was organized by Mr.R.Sundaresan Head of the Department.
Workshop on “Recent trends in Hearing aid fitting and programming”
Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology arranged a one day Seminar on
“Recent trends in hearing aid fitting and programming” on 26th September 2018. Ms.Dhisha,
Regional Product Manager, Resound Limited Company was guest speaker. The speaker gave an
elaborate presentation on types of hearing aids, fitting and programming demonstration .This
workshop was organized by Mr.R.Sundaresan Head of the Department.
HEARING SCREENING CAMP AT VAKKAMPATTI
Holy Cross College, Trichy organized 3 days Hearing screening camp from 11.10.18 to 12.10.18
for Students and village people at Vakkampatti followed by 13.10.18 at Dingual. On Behalf of
Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, Staffs Ms.Anita and Ms.Sujitha and
15 students attended the camp.
A total of 636 population were screened. Counseling was given to all regarding hearing care
and need of routine audiological evaluation. Further detailed evaluation and recommendation
were given to patient who is concerned.
HEARING SCREENING CAMP FOR HANDICAPPED ADULT
Holy Cross College, Trichy organized a Hearing screening camp for Handicapped adult on
25.12.2018 at St. Anne’s Rehabilitation Society for the Handicapped, Irungalur, Trichy. On
Behalf of Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, the staff representation E.
Pushpa Sarona & C. Regina Mary and 17 students were screened handicapped adults for Hearing
Disorders.
Counseling was given to all regarding hearing care and need of routine audiological
evaluation. Further detailed evaluation and recommendation were given to patient who is
concerned.
44 handicapped adults from St. Anne’s Rehabilitation Society for the Handicapped benefited
from the camp.
HOLY CROSS COLLEGE VILLAGE SCREENING CAMP
Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Trichy Organized a free Audiological & screening camp on
02.12.2018 at Irungalur village near Trichy. On Behalf of Department of Audiology and Speech
Language Pathology, Clinical Supervisor C. Regina Mary and 18 students were involved in the
camp.
About 71 village peoples were screened. Counseling was given to all regarding hearing care
and importance. Further detailed evaluation and recommendation were given to people who are
concerned.
HOLY CROSS COLLEGE SCHOOL SCREENING CAMP
Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Trichy Organized a free Audiological & screening camp on
03.12.2018 in St Teresa’s primary, high school at veralimalai village near Trichy. On Behalf of
Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, Assistant professor and clinical
Incharge audiology Sajan Sam Varghese and 10 students were involved in the camp.
About 89 students from classes X to IX Std were screened. Counseling was given to all
regarding hearing care and importance. Further detailed evaluation and recommendation were
given to students who are concerned.

03.12.2018 in Government high school at Thalakudi village near Trichy. On Behalf of
Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, Clinical Supervisor Ms. E. Pushpa
Sarona and 10 students were involved in the camp.
About 149 from classes VI to X Std were screened. Counseling was given to all regarding
hearing care and importance. Further detailed evaluation and recommendation were given to
students who are concerned.
RESCAPES SCREENING CAMP
Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Trichy Organized a free Audiological & screening camp on
05.12.2018 at Holy cross high school, Ponmalai, Trichy. On Behalf of Department of Audiology
and Speech Language Pathology, Clinical Supervisor Ms.P.Anita Phoebe Ivvah and 15 students
were involved in the camp.
About 167 Students from classes VI to X Std were screened. Counseling was given to all
regarding hearing care and importance. Further detailed evaluation and recommendation were
given to students who are concerned.
SPEECH AND HEARING WEEK CAMP:
Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Trichy Organized a free Audiological & screening camp on
13th and 14th of December, in Holy cross college, Trichy as a part of speech and hearing week
celebration. On Behalf of Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology. About 146
students from the department of History, Holy Cross College were screened. Counseling was
given to all regarding hearing care and importance. Further detailed evaluation and
recommendation were given to students who are concerned.
SPARC BIENNALE 2K18 and Human Chain
In connection to the speech and hearing week celebration, the department of Audiology and
Speech Language Pathology of Holy Cross College(Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli, Tamilnadu
together with Indian Speech and Hearing Association Tamilnadu chapter (TANISHA) conducted
SPARC BIENNALE 2K18. The program was organized on 13th and 14th December 2018 with an
exhibition in the college campus and human chain formation from Holy Cross College campus to
Banana leaf restaurant for 1kilo meters. The main motto of the biennale was to make the public
aware about the existing speech and hearing problems and its management. The program
commenced with a meaningful prayer service by the students of the department following which
Mr. R. Sundaresan, HOD of Audiology & Speech Language Pathology welcomed the gathering.
The program was inaugurated by Mr. R. Ravichandran, District Differently Abled
Welfare Officer. The event was graced by the presence of Rev. Sr. Niranjana Antonisamy,
Secretary, Rev. Sr. Dr. Christina Bridget. A, Principal, and Rev. Sr. Dr. Lourdu Mary, Academic
Coordinator. The Chief Guest Mr. R. Ravichandran addressed the gathering. He shared his own
thoughts and experiences in rehabilitating differently abled individuals. He also stated the
importance of identifying the disability in the early stages and giving proper treatment. The
inauguration ended with vote of thanks proposed by Ms. K. Bhuvaneswari, Assistant Professor,
Department of Audiology. Students of the department enacted street play portraying the
importance of antenatal care, early identification and intervention of speech and language
disorders. Students and faculty of the department participated in the human chain programme
and conducted an awareness exhibition in the department in the campus. The department also
offers free speech and hearing camp from 3rd December 2018 till 31st January 2019 for the
public. Students from various schools, special schools and general public participated in the
exhibition and benefited from the free camp offered.
Seminar on recent advances in Cochlear Implant
Seminar on assessment and management of dysphagia was organized by the Department of
Audiology and Speech Language Pathology for one day
07. 01.2019. The guest speaker invited for the seminar was Mr. Muthu, Cochlear, India. The
seminar was initiated by a warm prayer by our department students followed by the welcome
address delivered by Mr. R. Sundaresan, HOD.
The guest speaker gave a detailed presentation on history of cochlear implant, candidacy,
team members involved, counseling, components, criteria and contraindications. The speaker
also focused on post operatives measures. At last the seminar was concluded by vote of thanks
proposed by Assistant Professor Mr. Sajan Sam Varghese.
Indian Oil Corporation Limited & Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India
(ALIMCO) hearing aid dispensing camp
Indian Oil Corporation Limited & Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India
(ALIMCO) conducted hearing aid dispensing mega camp with Holy Cross College
(Autonomous), Trichy on 10.01.2019 Thursday at kalaiarangam Mahal, Trichy. On Behalf of
Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, Clinical Incharge Mr. Sajan Sam
Varghese and 10 students were involved in the camp.
About 55 persons with hearing loss (Beneficiaries) were screened and fitted with the
hearing aid (ALIMCO BTE semi digital). Counseling was given to all regarding hearing device
care and maintenance. Further detailed evaluation and recommendation were given to who are
concerned.
HOLY CROSS SCHOOL CAMP
Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Trichy Organized a free Audiological & screening camp on
04.02.2019 at Holy Cross High School, Teppakulam, Trichy. On Behalf of Department of
Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, Clinical Supervisor Ms. S. Jothi and 9 students
were involved in the camp.
About 199 Students from classes VI Std were screened. Counseling was given to all
regarding hearing care and importance. Further detailed evaluation and recommendation were
given to students who are concerned.
RC PRIMARY SCHOOL CAMP
Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Trichy Organized a free Audiological & screening camp on
11.02.2019 at RC Primary School, Valavanur, Trichy. On Behalf of Department of Audiology
and Speech Language Pathology, Clinical Supervisor Ms. C. Regina Mary and 7 students were
involved in the camp.
About 23 Students from classes I – V Std were screened. Counseling was given to all
regarding hearing care and importance. Further detailed evaluation and recommendation were
given to students who are concerned.
National Conference on Vestibular Assessment and Management: “Learn to Balance the
Unbalanced”(HCC FlaSH Series – 4)
Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology arranged a three days national
conference on Vestibular Assessment and Management: “Learn to Balance the Unbalanced”
from 28th Feb to 2nd March 2019. The Chief Guest was Prof. Dr. Gnanathilakan, Director and
Senior ENT Surgeon, Tilak Hospital, Tiruchirappalli. On the first day of conference 28/02/2019
topics focused on an Active retrieve on Vestibular anatomy was by Mr Sajan Sam
Varghese,Assistant Professor Holy cross college, trichy and physiology of Vestibular system was
by Mr Ramiz Malik, Assistant Professor, Marthoma College of Speech and Hearing, Kasargod.
Develeopment of Normal balance Function, overview of vestibular disorders and ENT
perspective was discussed by Dr.Srinivas Dorsala, Founder Cyclops med tech Banglore. Role of
Case History in diagnosis by Mr R Sundaresan, Assosiate Professor and HOD,Holycross
College, Trichy.
On the second day 01/03/2019 three eminent speakers, Dr. Sujeeth Kumar Sinha HOD, AIISH,
Mysore enlighten on Behavioural assessment Procedures and Instrumentation recording
parameters of ENG and VNG, Dr.Kaushalendra Kumar, KMC,Manglore discussed on
Instrumentation & Recording Parameters of C vemp and Dr.Niraj Kumar elaborated on
Instrumentation & Recording Parameters of O vemp. Parallel scientific paper sessions were held.
Students presented oral presentations and poster presentations. Along with that hands on session
done for all the delegates with more than eight imported branded instruments with the help of
facilitators. Cultural Fest also conducted for all the delegates in college ground on the same day
post sessions.
On the Third day 02/03/2019 distinguished guest speakers Dr.Sujeeth Kumar sinha HOD, AIISH
Mysore and Dr Niraj Kumar Singh , Reader in Audiology AIISH, Mysore gave a detailed talk on
Instrumentation and recording parameters of VHIT, and hands on session was held. Mr SN
Badarinath, Vestibular Audiologist UK, gave insight about Vestibular rehabilitation therapy and
Posturography following with Panel discussion
The conference came to an end with valedictory function. The Chief Guest was Dr.Sujeeth
Kumar Sinha, Dr Niraj Kunmar Singh, AIISH Mysore and Dr Kaushalendra Kumar(Totally 103
students from various colleges (MMC, MERF AVMC, NISH, SRM,SRMC, Amritha Institute)
and 37 professional delegates attended the conference.
Seminar on Assessment and Management of Dysphagia
Seminar on assessment and management of dysphagia was organized by the Department of
Audiology and Speech Language Pathology for three days from 11.03. 2019 to 13.03.2019. The
guest speaker invited for the seminar was Ms.Arya Deglutologist, Amritha Institute of Medical
Sciences, Kochi, Kerala.
The guest speaker gave a detailed presentation on anatomy, physiology and
embryology of swallowing on day 1 and subjective, objective assessment of dysphagia on day 2.
On day 3 presentations covered the topics like management strategies for dysphagia. The speaker
demonstrated maneuvers to facilitate swallowing. Second year and first year B.ASLP students
attended the seminar.
Workshop on Neurological Evaluation
One day workshop on neurological evaluation was organized by department f Audiology &
Speech Language Pathology in ABC Hospital Tiruchirappalli on 21.03.2019. The resource
person was Dr. Tirupathi, Consultant Neurologist. An overview on higher function evaluation
and cranial nerve evaluation was given during workshop. Workshop also focused on case
discussion and neurological investigation procedures like CT and MRI. Third year BASLP
students along with Ms. Amritha M.L., Assistant Professor attended and got benefited from the
workshop.
A New Voice to Voiceless: AAC - Exhibition
The department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology of Holy Cross College
(Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli, Tamilnadu conducted an Exhibition along with seminar on AAC
in the college campus. The program was organized on 19th March 2019. The program was
inaugurated by Ms. Shella Christopher, Dean of Research, Holy Cross College, Trichy. The main
