MAY 23, 2021 • PENTECOST SUNDAY

COME, HOLY SPIRIT!Today we celebrate the Church Birthday, Pentecost. This great solemnity is a reminder that Church is enlivened by God Himself through the bestowal of the Holy Spirit. From the gifts of the Holy Spirit does the Church continue

to experience growth and further sanctification. On this day, we begin the Year of the Holy Spirit. Celebrating this year has been on my heart since the early days of my pastorate at Holy Angels. Thus, it is with great joy that we begin this year dedicated to the Advocate that the Lord promised would guide us into all joy and truth!

As we begin the Year of the Holy Spirit, there is a lot going on. First, we found out that Fr. Aaron Hess will be the new vicar for Holy Angels and new chaplain at Lehman High School. Fr. Aaron is a Coldwater/Philothea native so we will have two priests from the same parish come July. I am excited to see the good work the Lord will do through Fr. Aaron. He would prefer to be called Fr. Aaron over Fr. Hess so although he is our third Fr. Hess, try to train yourself over the next month and a half to form a new habit. It is not a big deal if you call him Fr. Hess, but I am letting you know his preference early so we can all learn. I will certainly miss Fr. Andrew Hess’ presence and good work at Holy Angels. He will do great things in St. Henry, I have no doubt!

We also have three seminarians staying with us throughout the summer. Joseph Allaire who stayed with us over Christmas break, his classmate at Bishop Brute College Seminary Tony Brandt, and Adam Boehnlein who is from Minster along with being a cousin of Fr. Peter Langenkamp. Welcome them and get to know these fine young men. It is always a joy to have them around Holy Angels campus.

Also, remember that next week we begin the new Mass schedule at Holy Angels. Saturday Vigil Mass will be at 4:30 p.m. (confessions from 3:00-4:00); Sunday Mass times will be 7:30 a.m., 9:15 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. We have kept emphasizing that this new Mass schedule will give us more time for community and friendship here at Holy Angels. With that, we will have coffee and donuts after all the Sunday Masses and cookies and punch after the 4:30 [.m. vigil. So please, come out and enjoy some community and get yourself some-sugar loaded snacks! See you there!

Thank you to Missy Bennet, Grace Armstrong, and my friend Grace Weatherhead for their help with the Year of the Holy Spirit poster that you will see throughout the coming year. I appreciate all their help and the help all my staff and friends give me in making this Year of the Holy Spirit. Come, Holy Spirit!

Peace in Christ, Fr. Jarred Kohn

THE PILGRIMAGERADIATE CHRIST THROUGH MARYJoin us for a Marian Pilgrimage across our diocese covering 33 parishes, over 33 days, over 300 miles!

The pilgrimage began Sunday, May 16, 2021, with a Mass at the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in Russells Point. From there, a small group of pilgrims began this historic pilgrimage with a special statue of Our Lady of Fatima, blessed by Archbishop Schnurr for this occasion. The pilgrimage will last for 33 days, making stops at parishes in every deanery of the Archdiocese. The pilgrimage will end at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter in Chains on the day of the bicentennial, Saturday, June 19, 2021. On that day, the Archbishop will re-consecrate the Archdiocese to Jesus through Mary during a special Mass commemorating the bicentennial. Go to https://200.catholicaoc.org/marian-pilgrimage to learn more about this beautiful and historic event.

This weekend, May 23, Holy Angels will be one of the stops for the Marian Pilgrimage. A holy hour will take place at 7:00 p.m. Join us for an evening of prayer, The Holy Rosary, and Meditation! Refreshments will be served afterwards!

HEAVEN’S SPLENDOR: AND THE RICHES THAT AWAIT YOU THERE

PART II: CLOSENESS WITH JESUS IN THE EUCHARIST

St. Thomas Aquinas loved the Lord’s beautiful words at the Last Supper, at which He instituted the sacrament of the Eucharist: “I do not call you servants any longer…but I have called you friends.” (John 15:15)In a special way, we treasure deeply the presence and final words of a beloved friend. Having become man for our sake, the Lord has given us the exquisite gift of His physical presence in the Eucharist as a source of strength and comfort now, until we can enjoy His physical presence in an unhindered way in heaven. He imparts to us this sacred gift here on earth, uniting us to Himself most intimately in the Eucharist: “Those who eat my flesh, and drink my blood, abide in me, and I in them.” (John 6:56)This most wondrous of all the sacraments gives us the intimate and “familiar” physical presence of the Lord, as the sign of the Lord’s supreme charity for us. The Lord surrenders Himself to us in this precious Sacrament of the Eucharist ultimately so that, through it, He may bring us to heaven. - This article is an excerpt from Sr. Mary Ann Fatula’s book, Heaven’s Splendor: And the Riches That Await You There
