PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE “Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.” In its early stages, human mind is a coarse grain of sand, recurring a nurturing shell of broad spectrum of earning opportunities and experiences. It eventually gets nourished into nature’s most gifted ominous pearl of creative ideas, knowledge and critical thinking that ever revolutionized the world. I am extremely sanguine that KRM since its genesis has offered itself as a shell for sheltering & fostering human minds in their raw state to be matured into empowered innovators and discoverers. The school in all these years has unlocked the store house of taken & creative genius and set buoyant human spirit ever eroding in co-curricular activities. The wheel of excellence and continual progress has been steered with values & conventions as its fulcrum, quality education, constant improvement in infrastructure, educational technology, teaching and learning processes as its spokes to fortify innumerable efforts to set the wheel on its track. The need of the hour is to root students firmly in an enabling & constructive work for their meaningful blossoming. Meeting this need, KRM set up three more edifices of learning equipped with latest educational technology down the hemline. The four edifices of learning act as a spring board for honing shills & harnessing unbound talents of young learners with unique needs. The school administration has been able to create a levitate balance between quality and quantity as may be the popular belief. It is believed that a thin line demarcates a good school from a truly great one. I am deeply gratified to claim years of our enriching odyssey, we are already half way to becoming a truly great school. The school will continue undeterred in its journey for excellence. EDITORIAL From the Editor’s Desk Learn from yesterday, hope for tomorrow and live for today!!! Education isn’t about how much you’ve committed to memory, or how much you know. It’s about being able to differentiate between what you know and what you don’t. K.R. Mangalam World School initiates this notion and helps the learners to imbibe the positive thoughts. CLASS: PRE- SCHOOL ACTIVITY: FITNESS FIRST DAY & DATE: MONDAY, 14 OCTOBER 2019 The Nursery students participated wholeheartedly in the ‘Fitness First’ activity during the physical education period where they moved rhythmically to the beats of the drum. Children took part with commendable vigour and enthusiasm. They had lots of fun running, jumping and laughing together.

ACTIVITY: DUSSEHRA DAY & DATE: FRIDAY, 4 OCTOBER 2019 The victory of Good over Evil To celebrate the festival of Dussehra, a story narration with puppets was presented by the Nursery teachers. It was followed by a questionnaire round in which the students participated enthusiastically. They also enjoyed making Ravana mask using glitter sheets, bindis, stickers, etc. The young minds of K.R. Mangalam World School, GK II had a rich learning experience combined with the festival pomp and spirit.

ACTIVITY: VISIT TO THE RAIL MUSUEM DAY & DATE: WEDNESDAY, 15 OCTOBER 2019 K.R. Mangalam World School, GK II organized an excursion to the NATIONAL RAILWAY MUSEUM located at Chanakyapuri on Tuesday, 15 October 2019 for the students of Nursery. It was a pleasant Tuesday morning and children were filled with anticipation. The students were attentive, excited and asked many questions during the visit. They explored different types of trains there and learnt about many new facts. The little tiny tots were enthralled to view fast and slow moving miniatures trains. It was a rich learning experience for them.

ACTIVITY: ANIMAL TOY TALK DAY & DATE: 10 OCTOBER 2019

‘The greatness of nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated’. The students of Nursery were introduced to the topic ‘Animals’ by performing an animal talk activity. The children brought their favourite animal soft toy from home and spoke a few lines about it. This activity enhanced learning along with their communication skills and boosted their morale with a lot of fun quotient.

ACTIVITY: FOLK DANCE COMPETITION DAY & DATE: THURSDAY, 17 OCTOBER 2019 “Dance is the hidden language of the soul”

K.R. Mangalam World School, GK II organized a Folk-Dance Competition for Nursery children on October 17, 2019 in which they participated with great enthusiasm. Folk dancing is a beautiful way to introduce our little children to the India’s rich cultural diversity. The stage came alive with the students’ spectacular performances. The attractive costumes looked very bright and vibrant. The happiness and joy of dancing was clearly reflected on faces of our little ones.

NAVRATRI CELEBRATION- GARBA DANCE DAY AND DATE: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2019 K.R Mangalam World School, G. K-2 believes in acquainting its students with culture and tradition of our country. Keeping this in mind, the Tiny Tots of kindergarten came dressed up in traditional, colourful and beautiful Garba attire and performed the popular dance ‘Garba’ to celebrate the auspicious festival ‘Navratri’. It was a fun filled experience for them. It is also based on Project Based Learning as it encourages students to learn and apply knowledge and skills through an engaging experience.

ROLE PLAY- OUR HELPERS Day and Date: Wednesday, October16, 2019

K. R Mangalam World School, G. K-2 believes in the overall development of their students which includes role play, vocabulary development, building up confidence and imagination. Keeping this in mind an activity of community helpers was held on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 wherein the students came dressed as ‘Community Helpers’ and spoke a few lines on them. It was a fun filled learning experience for them.

VISIT- RAILWAY MUSEUM Day and Date: Thursday, October24, 2019 K. R Mangalam World School, G. k-2 believes in learning through active exploration and real life experiences. The students of kindergarten enjoyed their visit to the Rail Museum. They learnt that trains need energy like electricity and diesel to run. They enjoyed the joy ride in the train and they were thrilled to see different types of trains. The Tiny Tots had a fun filled day.

ACTIVITY: SAFETY AND FIRST AID CLASS I OCTOBER 16, 2019

At K.R. Mangalam, we have always taken a practical approach to learning. Keeping this in view, students of Class 1 actively participated in portraying the importance of ‘SAFETY AND FIRST AID’ through a show and tell activity. They were asked to speak a few lines on the items kept in the first aid box, including band aid, dettol, thermometer, bandage, cotton etc. Children had lots of fun enacting small happenings of day to day life where due to carelessness people tend to meet with accidents.

Through this activity children were made aware about the safety rules that they need to follow at various places like roads, swimming pool, home, public places to name a few. More over children also understood the importance of providing first aid at the time of emergencies.

This activity helped children learn some of the safety habits and first aid to help them and also provided a practical aspect to the learning, to provide depth and extension.

ACTIVITY: BACKWARD COUNTING THROUGH HOPSCOTCH CLASS I OCTOBER, 2019 At K.R. Mangalam, we provide a practical aspect to the learning in order to offer depth and extension. Keeping the above in view, students of class 1 actively participated in the game of Number Hopscotch. This activity combines a child’s favorite game with learning. In a fun-filled learning method, children develop fundamental skills such as recognizing numbers.

Sidewalk chalk was used to create a hopscotch game to make them learn backward counting and students jumped on the number line.

It was a great learning exercise for the students as they were able to work on recognizing numbers from 100 to 0.

CLASS II DAY & DATE: WEDNESDAY, 30 OCTOBER 2019 ACTIVITY: MAKING AN ECO FRIENDLY GIFT WRAPPING SHEET In continuation to Class II PBL topic- Plants, the students participated in an innovative activity of making an ‘Eco friendly gift wrapping sheet’. The objective of the activity was to encourage our young ones to be able to identify different types of leaves by observing their shape, size etc., use the leaves fallen on the ground creatively and learn to reduce plastic usage (found in shiny wrapping sheets).The Eco friendly wrapping sheets were made using old newspapers, paints and leaves of different sizes. The students participated with a lot of enthusiasm and zeal. They thoroughly enjoyed making beautiful and colourful wrapping sheets!

The activity also helped to create awareness about taking care of the environment by recycling paper.

ASSEMBLY REPORT CLASS - III A AND III B THEME: DIWALI Diwali, the festival of lights that enlightens the hearts and brings joy to every heart was celebrated at K.R.Mangalam World School, G.K-II on 25th October 2019 in the amphitheatre. Decorated in vibrant hues, the school had an ambience of joy and happiness. The programme began with a meaningful prayer followed by Ganesh Vandana, invoking God’s blessings. The students updated the audience with the news headlines which was followed by the thought of the day. Students made children aware that Diwali is one of India’s biggest festival. It marks the return of Lord Rama from fourteen years of exile and his victory over the demon Ravana. They also spoke about how people decorate their homes with Diyas, rangoli, flowers and exchange gifts and sweets with their family and friends on this auspicious day.

Melodious ‘choupai’ was sung on the occasion of Diwali by the students of Class III A. Students enacted a wonderful skit with a beautiful message. They encouraged their fellow friends to say ‘No to Crackers’ because besides encouraging child labour, crackers emit a lot of smoke which cause air pollution. The rising air pollution is not conducive for our health and our natural environment. Also, pet animals get very scared because of noise pollution caused by bursting of crackers. A scintillating dance performance by the students of Class III B added much exuberance and joy to the assembly. The assembly concluded with Principal ma’am giving away the message of a clean, peaceful and a bright Diwali.

CLASS- VII-C &VII-D

POLLUTION FREE DIWALI

“May the Divine Light of Diwali spread into your life Peace, Prosperity, Happiness, and Good Health.”

Keeping up with the spirit, the students of classes VII-C& VII- D conducted their assembly on 25 October 2019.The topic for the assembly was ‘Pollution Free Diwali’.The assembly commenced with the chanting of the Saraswati Vandana.The students updated the audience with the news headlines which was followed by the thought of the day.

The dream of living in a pollution free environment is possible by everyone pitching in a little effort. This message was very well conveyed by an article. Students also encouraged their fellow friends to say ‘No to Crackers’.

The students presented a short skit highlighting the importance of five days of Diwali. It is celebrated on the night of Kartik Amasvasya. It marks the return of Lord Rama from fourteen years of exile and his victory over the demon Ravana. They also shared the fact that people worship Goddess Lakshmi on this day. Through their performance, the students emphasized on celebrating ‘Green Diwali’.

A scintillating dance performance by the students added much exuberance and joy to the assembly. The Students took the pledge to celebrate Diwali pollution free. The assembly was addressed by Principal ma’am. She shared her thoughts and motivated the students to celebrate ‘Green Diwali’. The assembly culminated with the rendition of the National Anthem. Class- VII- A and VII- B The class assembly of VII A and VII B was on the topic ‘Peer Influence’ and the students of both sections put together a thought provoking presentation. The presenters of the assembly were Akshita (VII B) and Ranveer (VII A). The response of the students and teachers was very encouraging.

The assembly started with the prayer followed by the news, weather report, thought of the day followed by word of the day in Hindi and English. Then a “Nukkad Natak’ on peer influence was

presented by the students. The students of VII B presented ‘The Fight Song’ led by Kaira Kilam. After that, in a ‘Talk Show’ format the students of VII A explained the effect of peer group on students in both a positive and negative way. The next performance was a beautiful fusion of Indian classical and western dance forms presented by students of VII A. This was followed by a talk on ‘Yamuna – A lifeline of Our City’ by Surya Bhatia of VII B which raised the issue of increasing pollution of the river Yamuna and the urgent need to prevent the river from dying.

Then, Principal ma’am addressed the assembly and praised the efforts of the students, especially the talk given on the river Yamuna by Surya Bhatia. The assembly ended with rendition the national anthem.

INTER HOUSE FOOTBALL MATCH COMPETITION (JUNIORS)

Sports is an integral part of the holistic development which directs one to be competitive while keeping the spirit of honesty and camaraderie alive. Keeping up with the same, an ‘Inter-House Football Match’ was held for classes IV and V on 19 October 2019, in the school field. When students participate in such matches, it provides a sense of belonging, and being part of a group, enabling to work in a team environment. Besides, it helps the students to interact with peers in a social and friendly manner. It also helps them to learn to consider the interests of teammates and to practice mutual respect and gain their cooperation. The willing participation of the students was visible during the match where each kick and each goal mattered to them. The electrifying performance of the students was truly exhibited sportsman spirit throughout the match. All the four teams tried to outshine each other on the field to show their mettle. The winning teams could be seen jubilantly celebrating their victory after the match.

INTER- HOUSE COMPETITIONS The World of imagination is boundless.

Inter- House Competitions paves the way for our students to rejuvenate their spirits, remain rooted to the moral values and unleash their vitality. On 19 October 2019, various Inter- House Competitions were held within the school premises. The well planned competitions were conducted, focusing on brushing up students' talents. Each child was given the opportunity and the platform to display his/her talent and present themselves as individuals.

E-CARD MAKING COMPETITION An Inter-House Card Making Competition was organized for classes VI-XI in the Computer Lab. The topic for the same was ‘Diwali’. The students participated keenly and made beautiful card by the dint of their creativity. This activity aimed at exploring and encouraging creativity in children and giving them a platform to showcase their skill. It was wonderful to watch the zealous students giving expression to their thoughts. Each of the cards made by the children was a treat to the eyes. This made the selection process extremely difficult for the Judges.

In the Junior School, Ruby house bagged the first position followed by Emerald grabbing the second position whereas in the Senior School, Topaz House won the first position followed by Sapphire House bagging the second position. All the students were seen much enthusiastic. The event was a grand success.

ENGLISH DECLAMATION COMPETITION

An Inter-House English Declamation Competition was organized for classes IX-XI in the school premises. The topic for the same was ‘Single Use Plastic’. The students participated keenly and expressed their concern emphatically, stressing on the dire need to ban plastic in order to save the earth from choking to death. The activity aimed at exploring and encouraging public speaking in children and giving them a platform to showcase their skill. It was wonderful to watch the enthusiastic students ardently expressing their thoughts. The first position was bagged by Srishti Singh of XI-E of Emerald House. The second position was secured by Jovita Kaur of XI-C Ruby House and the third position was again grabbed by Khushi Bhasin of XI-E of Emerald House.

INTER- HOUSE FOOTBALL, THROWBALL AND BADMINTON MATCH

The importance of sports encompasses more than just the benefit of physical activity. Participation in sports helps inculcate admirable discipline and a sense of obedience. A student develops a sense of unity and competition. One becomes able to learn that success is possible through cooperative efforts of all the team members. At K.R. Mangalam World School, G.K-II, we provide opportunities to sow the seed of interest and career building in games.

Inter- House Football, Throwball and Badminton matches were organized on October 12, 2019. The matches were played between the four Houses- Sapphire, Ruby, Topaz and Emerald. The atmosphere was charged up with the cheers of the students and the enthusiasm of the participants. Each house put in their best foot forward. The matches were played with immense zeal and fervor by the young and dynamic players. The results of the matches are as follows:

SLOGAN WRITING AND POSTER MAKING COMPETITION

Guided by their mentors, the competitions included ‘Slogan Writing’ in which Sapphire House bagged the first position. Another competition titled ‘Poster Making’ in which first position was won by Topaz House and ‘Essay Writing’ in which Sapphire House won the first position. These competitions developed a feeling of affiliation and unity among students.

ADVERTISEMENT WRITING & ADVERTISEMENT ENACTMENT

The importance of advertisements in the present times is immense. It is a method that is used to attract people's attention. It is an important and simple procedure for companies to make themselves known amongst the public. We come across advertisements through certain mediums like newspapers, magazines, billboard, buses, internet, and on the radio, flyers, newsletters or posters.

Students of the four houses were engaged in advertisement making activity. They had a first-hand experience in advertisement not just in making the advertisement but also enacting the same in order to appeal the public.

CLAY MODELLING COMPETITION

An Inter House ‘Clay Modelling’ competition was held on 19 October 2019 in the school premises.

The students were divided into two categories - Senior and Junior. Total twelve students participated from different houses. The topic for the same was ‘Diya Making’. Students enthusiastically took part in the competition and made many wonderful and creative divas. Ms. Lubna and Ms. Gurpreet Kaur were the esteemed judges for the competition and the judgement was given on the basis of creativity, decoration and finishing.

In the senior category, Raveesha Kothari, of class XI-F, bagged the first position and Ria, of class IX-B, bagged the second position. In the Junior category, Trishna Pillai of class VIII-A got the first prize, Jia Gandhi of class VIII-E got the second prize and Bineet Singh of class VI-E got the third prize.

REPORT OF WORKSHOP ON ‘SAY NO TO DRUGS’

A healthy mind is the greatest treasure to find.

Mental health refers to our cognitive, behavioural, and emotional wellbeing - it is all about how we think, feel, and behave. Our mental health comes to stake when it is taken for granted and when a habit inculcated becomes an addiction. One such addiction that has seeped into the youngsters of today is taking drugs.

Keeping up with the same a workshop was organised by K.R. Mangalam World School, G.K-II for the students of class VIII, IX and XI, on October 9, 2019. The topic of the workshop was ‘Say no to Drugs’. The workshop was conducted by Dr Sameer Malhotra, Director of Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences, Max Group of Hospitals, Max Healthcare. The workshop primarily focussed on the harmful effects that drugs can result in, when consumed. The resource person shared information about drugs that it produces a sense of euphoria but it is very dangerous because the users gradually get addicted and are always at risk of a variety of life-threatening diseases. He also discussed how drugs can lead one to a lot of depression and loneliness.

The major factors leading to drug addiction are lack of parental cure and supervision, lack of moral and religious education, media and pop culture, hatred for any authority, broken homes etc. The 40 minutes session was quite informative and interactive. Dr.Sameer emphasized that drugs destroy memory, self-respect and everything that goes along with a person’s self-esteem. The informative session created a lot of awareness in the students, on the sensitive issue.

REPORT OF WORKSHOP ON MENSTRUAL HYGIENE

Let’s talk about it

K.R. Mangalam World School, G.K-II organised a workshop for the students (girls) of classes V-IX & XI on October, 2019. The topic of the workshop was ‘Menstrual Hygiene’ and it was conducted by the Ms.Mehak Kaushik,Uni Charm India, Global hunt Foundation. The workshop primarily focussed on the creating awareness and building knowledge of the girls on the subject of menstruation. The session entailed a comprehensive understanding on the what, why and how of menstruation. In the 40 minutes session the resource person explained the meaning of menstruation and helped to develop a biological understanding about the same in the students. She also made the students aware on the related social taboos and made them aware on the hygiene practices that is to be maintained during menstruation. It was quite an interactive and learning session and students were encouraged to share their thoughts and ask queries about menstrual hygiene.

REPORT OF SELF DEFENCE WORKSHOP

Feeling confident in your ability to protect yourself empowers you to life with less fear and more freedom.

Self-defenceis of utmost importance in the kind of the world we live today. In a country like India where the cases of gender violence are on rise, out of which many go unreported, self-defence for girls has become a necessity more than ever. Keeping up with the same a workshop was organized by K.R. Mangalam World School, G.K II on 11October 2019, for the girls of classes VI to XI. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Deepak Verma,International Ultimate Krav Maga Federation (IUKMF). The workshop covered the self-defence techniques used under day to day threat, attack and bullying scenarios. He gave the students an insight on the importance of self-defence and how physical activities can help them to lead a fit lifestyle. The resource person taught techniques that could help in improving the confidence level of the students reduce their stress levels and prepare them to use their presence of mind to react under a threat situation and get to safety. The students showed keen interest in the workshop and even voluntarily demonstrated the techniques taught by the resource person. It was indeed an enriching experience for the students.

REPORT OF CAREER COUNSELLING WORKSHOP

Opportunities don’t happen, you create them.

Career counselling helps students to choose a field that is in tune with their skills and their job expectations and perform their level best, which ultimately helps them succeed. Keeping up with the same a workshop on cracking SAT and TOE FL exams was organised on October 15, 2019 by K.R. Mangalam World School, G.K-II for the students of Classes X and XI. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Arun, City Business and Operations Head, Jamboree, New Delhi. He emphasized on the fact that one must make the right choice in order to pursue his or her dream and achieve success.

The workshop aimed at informing various facts of cracking SAT and TOE FL exams and secures a seat in the top Universities of the world. The resource person urged the students to believe in their strengths and follow their passion. Further, information about various courses taught in the top universities were also shared with the students. The workshop ended with students asking queries related to the various courses and career options. It was an informative session.
